Tutorial needed: Nivo Slider powered by Photo Gallery XML feed
I'm in need of some help. I've setup my Photo Gallery, generated the xml feed. I went to the Nivo slider site, but don't see instructions of how to make it read the xml file.
So this is the information that I'm using which leads me to believe I can use the xml feed to populate the slider.
http://forums.adobe.com/docs/DOC-1780
. You can now style this using your own CSS or use one of the many free, jQuery-based Gallery/Slideshow plugins available on the web, such as Galleria, the jQuery Cycle plugin, or InnerFade.
When using a seperate jQuery plugin on top of this set up, make sure you place and execute the plugin script after the code we just inserted, so that our LI items are generated before it attempts to process and manipulate them.
Am I right and it just takes the proper coding?

How to add a slider to a photo gallery?
I have dozens of photos in a gallery. Scrolling lets you move along the line of photos but you cannot now use scrolling to independently move around the page. Can I add a slider to the gallery thumbnails to move through them quickly while retaining the scrolling feature for use on the entire page. As it stands now a person viewing my page on a laptop cannot see all of the info and cannot move around the page. Help!
To be specific about what I am trying to do is as follows:
I have a Muse slideshow (photo gallery( with the large picture window
and a LONG row of thumbnails that will go off the page (either
vertically or horizontally).
Right now I have the large picture window (and text around it)
locked/pinned in position while a long vertical column of thumbnails
scroll so you can select what picture you want to click to see in the
large window.
For someone viewing on a laptop, for instance, part of the large window
and locked text around are off screen and as the large screen and
related text are locked the person viewing cannot scroll around to bring
them into view.
I think what I need is to unlock the large screen (and related text) but
have some separate way to move the long row/column of thumbnails so
folks can click/select the picture they want to view on the large screen

Need help with preloader for photo gallery
Hello!
I know I might be the 99999999991 to say that but I will say
it...I'm a begginer with flash and I have a problem...:-)
I'm building a photo gallery which loads jpg photos inside a
loader component by using MovieClipLoader.
Everything works just great but my only problem is that I
can't scale the content (the jpg's) to the size of the loader
component.
I tryed everything but the photos are loading bigger then the
loader, and I wnat to have the photos bigger then the loader so
that I could have good quality on any resolution. Here's the
actionscript I used, if it's necessary:
//------------------MovieClip Loader---------\\
var mcLoader:MovieClipLoader = new MovieClipLoader ();
var myListener:Object = new Object ();
mcLoader.addListener(myListener)
myListener.onLoadProgress = function
(target_mc,bytesLoaded,bytesTotal) {
extLoader_mc._visible = true;
var pctLoaded = Math.round(bytesLoaded/bytesTotal*100);
extLoader_mc.extLoaderBar_mc._xscale = pctLoaded;
extLoader_mc.extLoadinBarLines_mc._xscale = pctLoaded-1;
extLoader_mc.pct_txt.text = pctLoaded;
if (bytesLoaded >= bytesTotal) {
extLoader_mc._visible = false;
mcLoader.loadClip("pics/zernike1.jpg",picViewer_mc.picLoader);
T
Text
Textfirst of all, you can't directly resize the bitmaps, you have to resize the movieclip above it. so if needed, create an empty movieclip inside another wrapper movie clip and resize the wrapper.
then i noticed you don't have onLoadInit in your listener
this method:
myLIstener.onLoadInit=function(mc:MovieClip){
will execute commands after the content is loaded. so you will have to resize your content after it's been loaded. you can't just resize something that you loaded above in your code, you have to wait until it's fully loaded
anyways since you siad you are beginner i will list some useful tip for this job (i don't know if you already know them):
this -refers to current movie clip
this._parent -refers to parent movie cilp
width and height of movie clips are controlled by _width and _height properties, not width height -
Need help to create a photo gallery/slideshow
I want to create photo gallery similar to the url below. Is
this an off the shelf or built into flash.
If there's any tutorials that exist please inform. ThanksWhenever I need a gallery like this i usually just buy one
from:
http://www.flashcomponents.net/component/
they are usually like $8-10 and have saved me quite a bit of
time... there are plenty of tutorials out there for custom ones,
but for $8 its hard to pass up a pre-built... i know this doesnt
answer your question exactly but i figured i would give my 2 cents,
hope this helps :) -
Need help in adding Cooliris photo gallery to premade web template.
Hi,
I purchased a flash template that has nice effects. I would like to add Cooliris or a nice photo gallery page to the site. I contacted their help forum from where I bought the template and they say the effects are an embedded video that has to be custom editied, which I don't know how to do.
What do I need to do? Can I upload the template in this forum to show exactly what I mean? or, I can show you the sample template at:

Be aware that my suggestion here is NOT valid XHTML, but since you are not a web developer, and the 'invalid' markup that I have suggested will not affect the rendering or operation of the page, I decided to keep it simple for you. In my suggestion, "yourlink.html" refers to the page to which you want this button to link, and "yourbutton.png" refers to the filename of the button image (obviously you'd want to change this to correspond to the filename and extension of the image you have created). -
Need to incorporate a PHP Photo Gallery into site
Hi,
I do not have a lot of experience with PHP, but I purchased a
simple PHP Photo gallery and had it installed on my website. Now I
want to have that gallery appear in within a photo page (html) on
my website. I have banner ads on the right and left sides of the
page and place content in the center. I was hoping that I could
insert an iFrame into that center area and link to the index.php
file in my photo gallery folder to incorporate it within that area.
But I can't get that to work (I insert an IFrame and link to the
index.php file). So am I doing something wrong, or is there a
better approach to make this happen?
My website and photo gallery URLs are below.
PLEASE HELP!!!
Website

Gallery URLI did not look all that much on your source but I'm pretty
sure this
"<MMString:LoadString id="insertbar/linebreak" />"
should *not* be
inside your title tags!

Generate Photo Gallery XML for Spry with Adobe Bridge
Wanted to post a note to what I've discovered/worked out -- a
way to
generate a very useful photos.xml from Adobe Bridge. If you
use Bridge,
it's very easy to add titles, keywords, ratings -- all kinds
of metadata
that one might use in a photo gallery. Here it is in case
anyone wants
to use.
The script is based on one I found at the Adobe User to User
Bridge
Scripting Forum for exporting a CSV file.
Note 1: this particular script doesn't take into account
CDATA that
might exist in your metadata, like ampersands in your title.
I've just
avoided using those, but you could also have the script write
out a
CDATA node for that info instead.
Note 2: this script does not write out a thumbpath,
thumbwidth or
thumbheight attribute. But usually the thumbpath is the exact
same as
the regular "path" attribute, and the thumbwidth and
thumbheight are
just a ratio of the regular "width" and "height" attributes.
I added a
bit of JS to the gallery.js file to calculate those before
growing the
thumbnail on rollover.
Personally I'm using keywords as categories and titles as
captions and
sorting by rating (stars in Bridge), so here's the .jsx file
I created.
The script should be saved to the folder "StartupScripts" in
Program
Files/Common Files/Adobe.
Hope this is useful for others too!

// open filestream and write first line
f.open("w");
f.writeln("\<photos\>\r\r");

= varKeywords
+ Keywords + ","; }
return varKeywords;I updated the script so it exports an XML file from Bridge
with full
compatibility with the Spry Demo Photo Gallery, to use as
photos.xml.
It's at the same address:
http://www.imagicdigital.com/spry/bridge_export_xml.zip
To Use:
The script goes in the folder "StartupScripts" in Program
Files/Common
Files/Adobe.
Launch Bridge and browse to a folder that contains the files
you want in
your gallery -- the "source" folder, as it were.
Choose the menu command "Tools > Export XML for Spry
Gallery".
Type a name for your XML file in the Save dialog box, choose
a location,
and hit "Save".
In the dialog box that pops up, enter a max length/width for
your
thumbnails, in pixels. Some common sizes are "75" , "100" or
"125".
Hit "OK". You should see an alert pop up telling you "XML
file
successfully created!" -
Flash photo gallery .xml question (Firefox)
I made a photo gallery using SimpleViewer (
http://www.airtightinteractive.com/simpleviewer/)
The gallery worked perfectly in both IE and Firefox, but I
made some changes and added some new photos to the gallery more
than 24 hours ago. The changes showed up right away in IE, but in
Firefox, it still shows my 'old' gallery. I can still see the
gallery fine. The file is .xml and I was wondering if there was a
code or something I could use (maybe in the html file) so that
Firefox would be more compatible and make the changes
quicker.I had to go into firefox and clear the cookies and that
worked. But, there has to be an easier way to do this. I don't want
to tell people on my site that every time the photo gallery is
updated, they have to clear the cookies in the foxfire browser to
see them.

Help: Need to finding Best way of Processing XML feeds into MySQL
Hi,
I wrote a bit of java code a couple of years ago to take an xml feed and load into MySQL.
It's ok for small files but memory intensive as the file gets larger.
1) Loads the XML into memory
2) Process nodes sequentially usiung via Cached XML Parser (xalan) ... memory
3) Writes each record ... slow
It needs updating and the xml files are bigger.
Any clues on how to do this efficiently?
Cheers,
Markmarkied wrote:
Load into in MySQL could take two steps:
1) bulk load into flat/generic xml structure in MySQL, if poss?
2) cache reading from flat/generic xml structure from MySQL and rewriting to new schema.I don't understand what either of those things mean so it's pretty hard to suggest alternatives to them.
If you're running out of memory then I assume you must be using DOM. I would have thought that sequential parsers like SAX and StAX would work for loading an XML document into an SQL database, no matter what database structures were involved. -

hi guys,
I need to create a flash photo gallery that loads the photos
and photo title with xml but can't seems to b able to find a
suitable one.
this is what i need to do
http://www.afterlights.com/phuket/photo_gallery.html
basically the photos, thumbnails and photo description will
be all controlled by xml
i've created the flash with everything loaded in flash by
hard code now, can anyone share any similar tutorial that can do
something like this?
million thanks in advance!So this is the information that I'm using which leads me to believe I can use the xml feed to populate the slider.

Need Expertise on Custom Photo Gallery Template
Hello there - this question isn't really just Mac specific, but I don't see a forum that will post to ALL Photoshop users.
I'm in need of some help customizing a Photo Web Gallery in Photoshop. I've done one entirely without tables, using my own CSS to style it. My thumbnail page would be similar to the coding for the index page of the Lightbox styled gallery in this tutorial: www.photoshoplab.com/lightbox-web-photo-gallery.html
However, my problem is that even though my design doesn't use tables, when I'm in the automation dialogue in Photoshop, it still shows the table row and column parameters - greyed out - from the last time a table-based gallery template was used. And Photoshop is using this info to decide how many thumbnails to put on the gallery index page. It simply multiplies the row * column to limit the number of thumbnails on that first page. Very odd and not very nice looking, as it won't finish a row this way.
I notice the Lightbox styled gallery template does away with the table for the thumbnails as well. How, then can I gain control over showing "X" number of images per thumbnail page? Say I have a gallery of 40 images - how can I show 20, max, per page? Or 10? Or whatever needs to be specified to suit the number of images in that gallery?
Also, at runtime, Photoshop is stripping some small but important bits of code out of my customized templates. I've tried to put some HTML elements in to force the "previous next" text below the thumbnails, but it gets stripped out during the generation of the gallery.
The results can be seen here:
www.springfieldmo.gov/cityconnect/images/galleries/dating/index.html
Notice that the first thumbnails page shows 21 images. That's because the greyed out row, column info in the automate dialogue was 3 rows of 7 columns.
Is there any way to get to the actual code that Photoshop runs to generate the galleries? Seems like that's where it would be looking for the table info.
Any thoughts? I'd sure appreciate any info you can give or point me to someone who has done a pure CSS automated Photoshop gallery.
Sincerely,
Christopher Akins

City of Springfield, MOThanks Curt, In fact I think I have found the files under
user\Application Data\Adobe\Bridge CS5\Adobe Output Module\MediaGallery\
I got there as a result of your suggestion and although I didn't find /roaming/ I did find the following directories
/document1/
/preview/
/previewinbrowser1/
So I am guessing these contain the files I need to work with. Some of the files are json files which is a bit new to me but I think there is a fair bit of resource around about it.

Photoshop Elements 8 - Web Photo Gallery?
I have Photoshop Elements 8 trial edition and Photoshop Elements 2.0. I would like to create a Web Photo Gallery with Photoshop Elements 8 trial edition just like I have been doing with Photoshop Elements 2.0. I cannot find how to create a Web Photo Gallery in Photoshop Elements 8. Has Adobe removed the Web Photo Gallery function from Photoshop Elements 8?
I want to create a photo gallery to share photos on my own website and allow viewers to download the pictures. The new online sharing function in Photoshop Elements 8 only creates a slide show without downloading capability.Bob,
Thanks for answering. I need to create a Web Photo Gallery so I can upload thumbnails and full-size pictures to my website and have viewers be able to download the full-sized pictures. The Flash version does not permit downloading and requires that you use one of the provided templates. It appears that Photoshop Elements 8 is a downgrade from Photoshop Elements 2.0 in this respect. Is there any way to accomplish what I want to do with Photoshop Elements 8.0?
By the way, I really like your video tutorial on the Adobe website.

I need to create a scrolling photo gallery on my web page, which programme would be best to use and instructions would be great. THanks
I would use a "jquery slider" or "jquery slideshow". You can do a search in Google for those phrases and come up with hundreds of free scripts to choose from, most with a "how to" to get them into your site.
If you want to use something integrated into DW's Design View interface, Project VII has a paid extension to allow you to do it.
