Tutorial Showing How to Use SQLite with Classes

Question

I am writing a mobile app with Flex 4.5.1 and I will need to write and read to a SQLite database.  The previous times I have done this in previous versions of Flex, I just put all of my database code on the same main page which wasn't the most efficient way to do it, but it worked.
I've been looking all over to find a tutorial that shows how to set the database up so that it is "called" when needed and I'm assuming it would be put in a Class for this to happen.  Can anyone direct me to some examples showing how to do this?

If I type it as you showed in the example, I get a "1170: Function does not return a value." error when I try to save the AS document.  Here's what my code looks like:
public function getThings():ArrayCollection
            stmt = new SQLStatement();
            stmt.sqlConnection = sqlConnection;
            stmt.text = "SELECT * FROM contract";
            stmt.execute();
