Tweak photo optimization settings?

I'm trying to put an NYC subway map on the phone (don't tell the MTA!), but when zoomed even a little, it looks awful and is illegible. Obviously there's some serious image compression going on in iTunes.
The original map was 963x1248 @ 160dpi. I tried resizing it to 1445x1872 with a bit of sharpening in Photoshop. Both look great on my monitor but terrible on the iPhone zoomed. Unzoomed, they're just too small to read.
Any ideas?
thx,
rkny

bump, because i have the same basic question.
if i look in the "package contents" of the iphoto library it contains a ton of freshly generated images in the "iPod Photo Cache". this "iPod Photo Cache" takes up 8GB!!!! that is double the size of my folder of ORIGINALS?!?!?!? how can i change that? i only have an 80GB HD and i dont need 10% of that devoted to ipod duplicates?!?!?

  • ITunes looses photo sync settings for Apple TV (1st gen.)

Since the update to the new Photo app on my Mac, iTunes forgets the photo sync settings for my Apple TV (1st. generation, 160 GB HDD).
Every time I open the photo section of the Apple TV sync settings, all the options are turned off. Then I mark a couple of albums and sync the Apple TV >> all album appear on the Apple TV.
But after closing and re-opening iTunes in the photo settings everything is unmarked again. So on every following sync the photos on the Apple TV are easily erased :-( Resync them to the Apple TV takes hours (>30'000 photos!).
All the other sync settings in iTunes remain intact.
    Environment:
    - MacBook Pro Retina 15" with the latest SW (Mac OS, iTunes, Photo App, etc.)
    - Apple TV 1st gen 160 GB HDD

Restarting iTunes resolves the issue in the majority of cases, if it doesn't my second guess would be your security software.
What really seems strange here is that there have been no updates since well before Xmas, so after initially setting it up, the first update would have brought you right up to the most recent (and indeed the very last) .
Agh, how silly of me, I see it's iTunes you have updated.
If that's about all you've changed, you might want to try reinstalling iTunes and bonjour.

  • What are the best optimization settings for Logic 9....

    Hey guys,
I am running Logic 9 on a Macbook Pro 2.53GHz, Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB RAM, OSX 10.6.4, with a AK1 soundcard. And I was wondering what the best optimization settings for this setup are?
I have been having a few issues with drop outs in sound during playback, which is also carried over when i bounce the audio. I did some research and found my latency settings needed to be higher, so I set the I/O buffer size to 512. I am also running all samples from the local hdd, I was thinking maybe put the samples on an external drive. I also changed Logic 9 to 64bit mode.
Does anyone know if this is right and anything else I need to do with Logic and/or the AK1??

First, return to 32-bit mode. 64 bit still has some ß-issues and some features that are not working/disabled, and the only perk of 64-bit is that Logic can adress more than 4 GB RAM, which you don't have anyway.
Samples on the startup drive is not a problem, unless you start using really big third party sample libraries, or zillions of EXS instruments. Some of the Logic content insists on residing on the startup disk anyway, better leave that where it is.
If you have an external, use that to store your Logic projects, or, in other words, make it your recording disk (as recordings are stored in the project folder). You do record audio too, I assume? Anyway, if you get an external, make it a FireWire one, not USB. FireWire is much easier on the CPU, and +for audio (and sample-) streaming+ more reliable and faster than USB.
If dropouts you hear during playback also show up in the (offline?) bounce, it is probably not a buffer issue, as the buffer is irrelevant for bouncing offline.
So how many tracks and what kind of tracks in this project? Which plugins and how many instances of them?

  • [OT] Need Help Tweaking Photos in Photoshop

Although I know Photoshop fairly well, I am a novice in this general area of tweaking photos ... and could use some help.
I have some inferior photos that I would like to do my best to fix up in Photoshop CS2. Many of them somehow turned out quite faded ... I am not sure why.
I have posted one of these photos as an example on the Web. I would be interested in finding out the best quick way to tweak these pictures and make them more presentable. Feel free to just take a look or, if you would like, download the photo into Photoshop and let me know the best way to proceed.
    Location:
    http://www.brainbeast.com/pic/
    - I have fooled with :
Image - adjustments - levels ... and moved the left and right arrows to the edge of the data areas and that seems to help ... however I'm not sure what to do with the Middle arrow - etc...
    - Also - I fooled around with the exposure adjustment and also the shadow/highlight adjustment ... however from my limited knowledge - they all sort of seem to do the same thing - and I'm not sure which method or combination of techniques is best.
Q: Can someone help give me some suggestions as to how to proceed?
Any help would be greatly appreciated - RevDave

I find that using the Levels control (Command-L) is a little more intuitive than the Curves. I would seem to have problems with dragging the right direction but that's my issue. The Levels has an auto button that will get you very close to what mebs produced. You can then move the sliders to fine tune it.
Both ways will clean up the photo. It's just which way you're more comfortable with. Good luck.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.

  • Photo gallery settings

    Hi All,
I have a couple of quick questions about photo gallery settings: google and forum searches haven't shown up anything useful!
    - The photo gallery seems to be optimized for "square" photo's, whereas my DSLR produces more "rectangular" images. So, I'm left with large areas of blank space between rows of photos. Does anyone know of a way to adjust the vertical spacing without changing the horizontal spacing?
    - Ideally, I'd like the user to be able to click on a photo, and directly show the hi-res image. Does anyone know if it's possible to set this up? I.e. clicking on an image would give the same results as the "download" button.
    Thanks,

The photo page and album page galleries will take any size ratio image you give it. Where are you seeing the square issue?
If you want to manually put a thumbnail image on a page and link it to a full sized image to be opened in a new, separate window see this demo page: Opening Item in a New, Precisely Sized Window. It can be done with and without a button.

  • Share saved optimize settings?

Optimization settings include options unavailable in distiller settings ("Discard external cross references" is of special interest). The "PDF Optimizer" screen in  Acrobat Pro X includes an option for saving optimizer settings. (To reach the screen, select File > Save As > Optimized PDF.)  Is there a way to then share those settings with others? I have a team of 15 people who create their own PDFs, and I'd like them to all use the same optimization settings. Obviously I don't want to have to set up each user's settings individually.

Whether I save the custom settings to the "Users/[username]/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Adobe PDF/Settings" from the PDF preferences or use Distiller to modify the settings and try to save (running distiller as administrator), I am unable to load a joboptions file.
    (Win7pro, Acrobat X)

  • Where are Optimizer settings stored?

I need to deploy PDF Optimizer settings throughout my organization, like I did with joboptions.
So far I have been unsuccessful in searching for a file with the name into which I saved my optimizer settings.
Where are the optimizer settings stored?  I would hate to have to set these all manually for everyone.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Hi All,
Thanks for the info.  I think this is what I need, but I opened the Javascript console and pasted in the code and nothing happened.
(Programming, javascript, etc are not my area of expertise. My core competency is writing/editing.)
What else do I need to do to make the Console recognize and respond that line of code?

  • Where are Photo Screensaver settings saved?

    Hi,
I need to programatically change settings for the Photo Screensaver. The registry keys used in Windows Vista no longer apply in Windows 7. I tried using a folder with an uncommon folder name to point the Photo Screensaver to so that it would be easier to find in the registry. When I do a registry search, the folder name cannot be found. Maybe this is kept in a settings file somewhere instead of the registry?
We use a custom photo deck for our screensaver and it hasn't worked well to put it in the Pictures folder. You'll end up displaying personal photos along with the custom photos. I have been making a folder in Program Files and pointing the screensaver there.
The settings I would like to be able to change are:
Use pictures from: (you browse to the folder that contains your photos)
Slide show speed: (change the transition speed of the photos)
Shuffle pictures: (I would like to be able to check this box so the photos display randomly)
If anyone knows where to find these settings, it would be greatly appreciated if you could share the location of these settings.
    Thanks,
    Rob

  • How can i keep the optimize settings in Muse

    Hello
    I just uploaded a web site www.coopdebici.com
I was very carefully optimizing the images in adobe photoshop, and make them always at 100%.
When the web site was oline i takes a lot to charge some images and i just realized that Muse increase a lot the file size of most of them!
So, how can i keep the original optimize settings?
I don't want to replace the images manually using ftp
    Help me please
    Sebastián

    I just realized what happens.
I see that some images keep the original names an its compression and size, but other images doesn't.
The "problem" is with the round corners that i used, the original images are in jpg, but in order to make the round corner the Muse convert them in to png and it increases a lot the file size.
This can be helpful for you

They are stored in the Acrobat User Preferences Area.  The same location is used for Pro, Standard, and Reader.  But the exact location is OS dependant.

  • Disabling Photo Optimization on iPhone

    Hi!
I'd like to put high resolution pictures on my iPhone to take advantage of the zoom function. Everytime I sync my pictures, it automatically reformats the pictures, and it turns blurry (as I zoom in) on my iPhone. Is there anyway I can disable the photo optimization when my photos syncs to the iPhone? Or can you suggest any alternative solution?
    Thanks!!

My thoughts exactly! It seems like this would be much more of a iTunes feature (adding an option to "optimize" i.e. shitify the images or not) than an iPhone feature. It doesn't seem that all of a useful feature seeing as even most hi-res photos are 1/10th the size of a single song and you will usually have far fewer images than songs. It also make me wonder about how pictures taken with the phone are compressed and about their resolution

  • Can You Control Photos' Optimization?

Maybe I am misunderstanding this, but my impression is that Photos’ "optimization" option will NOT just store thumbnails on my Macbook Pro and the full-res version on iCloud (which I would love), but according to the preferences, "Originals will also be stored on this Mac if you have enough storage space." I started the process, and had to stop it after it took up 3GB on my MBP after getting just a fraction of my photo library. There seems to be NO option to store all the data in iCloud and just thumbs on the Macbook, and NO option to set how much disk space to keep free.
In other words, Apple decides how much free disk space you're going to get?
It's bad enough that Apple overcharges for both SSD capacity and for cloud storage. But to fill up both without giving you an option to set how much space you get to use??
It should be obvious that some people buy iCloud space for the express reason that they don't have to fill up their very limited internal drive space. That's one of the major reasons for getting cloud storage, especially if you have very limited mobile storage. I don't want to keep every d@&#ed photo on my drive! Give me the option at the very least!
I am a huge Apple fan in general, but Apple has always screwed its customers this way, creating gigantic libraries (iPhoto, iTunes, Garageband, Mail, etc.) with few or no options to control it—if you want to use Apple's apps and services, they fill up the disk and you have to suffer with it. Apple chintzes on SSD capacity, demands you leave 10 GB open for memory captures, and then proceeds to cram every last bit with data you have paid to keep elsewhere. I have already been forced to buy a 128 GB SSD add-on (the Transcend works great), but now Apple is stealing away what I gained!!
Someone please tell me I am wrong here, and that I can get the Photos app to store NONE of the full-sized photos on the Mac; I will be very happy to wait for the download from iCloud, and even happier if my whole rant here is mistaken. Otherwise, Photos is nothing but an asinine headache for me, and I am wasting my money on iCloud. I will just go back to saving my photos in folders I create on backed up external storage, and Apple and their stupid new toys can go to ****.

Thanks, and sorry for the rant. It's just not the first time I have had this problem. The thing is, I bought iCloud storage explicitly for this purpose—and every time I have tried to use it, Apple has crammed every last photo onto my hard drive, and left me in the dark about how to control it. I own Photoshop, so I don't need the app so much. I primarily want to be able to keep all of my photos, the originals, online, and access them as I desire, without using massive parts of my limited drive space.
I suppose I will just cancel my iCloud and use Flickr or something like it. I would love for Photos and iCloud to work the way they obviously should—but I also know that once Apple chooses a way of doing things, you can suggest changes to Apple till you're blue in the face—they rarely turn around on stuff like this, and never in a timely fashion.

  • Sync problem; itune stop working during photo optimization

    Hi,
Whenever I try to sync my iPad2, photo optimization window came up, and then, iTune stopped working.
Any idea why this thing is happening? Need somebody's help desperately!
    Thank you in advance.
    Warren

Try deleting the iTunes photo cache on your computer and then re-try (the location of it and how to delete it is described on this page http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1314 )
It might also be worth rebooting your computer and resetting the iPad before re-trying : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot

  • Energy Saver optimization settings missing in 10.5.8

I seem to have lost my optimization settings in the Energy Saver preference pane. I'm using a unibody MBP 13" running on 10.5.8, with Energy Saver version 4.4.3.. Does anybody else have this problem, and/or has anybody found a solution? Appreciate any help.

I'm my case there are NO options whatsoever for either battery or power adapter.
I have gone through the other posts and it seems to have been a problem in 10.5.6 that was resolved in 10.5.7, the difference being that the options were not available ONLY in the pull down menu at the menu bar but available in the System Preferences pane. What version of Energy Saver are you running? Mine is 4.4.3 as per the System Profiler. Is there any way to update this, if mine is not the latest version?

Our report fetches data using lot of attributes. When we don't use MDX setting, it fetches very fast, but the alias doesn't come.
