Tweaking regexp

Greetings all...
After carefully searching the forums back and forth, I have been able to eliminate many of my problems - So thank you all
There is one issue I have not been able to resolve, however... It is regarding a regular expression top validate an E-mail address - The user can enter numbers in the field and nothing else - not even the '@' or a separating '.' and it is validated as a correct entry
The validation script is placed on a checkbox which the user must check in order to confirm the E-mail address.
This is the regular expression I am using:
/^[a-zA-Z][\w\.-]*[a-zA-Z0-9]@[a-zA-Z0-9][\w\.-]*[a-zA-Z0-9]\.[a-zA-Z][a-zA-Z\. ]*[a-zA-Z]$/´

I am terribly sorry, but that character is a typing error on my part - It is not included in the original script
