Twist wakes up and kills battery

I just received my Twist back from service and I have a new problem.  I close the lid and it goes to sleep, and all is well.  Then at some point it "sort of" wakes up and the fan starts running.  It will do this, throwing out heat until the battery goes dead.
If I happen to open it before the battery goes dead, the red light will be pulsing like it is in sleep mode.  But it won't come out; not even after pressing the power button.  The only option is to hold power down till it shuts off, then back on.
Here's the interesting part; there is nothing in the Event Log about this.  I've had similar problems before where a device was errantly waking the computer and you could see the history of it in the Log.  For this problem, there's nothing in there.  It isn't windows that's doing this.  Could it be a bug in the new (Nov) BIOS?  This is obviously a big problem.

Hi,
Here's my guess:  it's waking up based on a timer and then hanging when trying to hibernate or enter 30-day standby.,  Could be  a problem with the cache SSD or how it's configured.  Or something else...
You can try disabling hibernation in advanced power options and/or disabling 30-day standby in Lenovo Settings.  Not a fix, but it might help diagnose the problem.

  • LG Cosmos Touch VN270 turns on all the time and kills battery life - how to stop this??

I lock the phone using the lock button on the side but then I'll notice that the display will come on spontaneously (an hour later or ten minutes later...it varies). I notice there is some symbol flashing (arrows and tiny cell phone icon at top of display)  and when I unlock it I will see a screen for browsing and downloading. This is super annoying because I have to keep recharging the phone even though I barely use it. And I can't find a setting to shut whatever it is off that keeps making it do that.
It's true that the display dims a minute later but if this is happening all day then it wastes the battery. I can tell because I'm recharging the thing every other day, which I'd really rather not have to do.
    Solutions??

Just to add another voice ... I've had the same issue.
Due to my terms of employment I keep the phone on overnight. Between midnight and 6:00am the backlight comes on and stays on, even though the timer is set to 30 seconds. Once, and only once, I left the volume turned up, instead of vibrate-only, and received detailed instructions on how to set up the email feature. That was not a friendly way to wake up. If I see the back light on, or the Download screen, I can shut it off with the screen lock button. Sometimes it comes back on later. This definitely kills the battery by morning.
I have worked with various Customer Support people who knew nothing about this issue. They have walked me through the remove battery, reset and reactivate phone, etc. to no success. VZW was kind enough to replace the phone with the same model. The second phone has the same issue.
The local Verizon store would only tell me to please contact the Customer Service number. The corporate account rep at work has been a black hole, so far.

  • Stratosphere keeps checking email and killing battery!!

Hello, I am getting VERY frustrated with my Stratosphere.  I recently had it replaced by Verizon because a fully charged battery was lasting 4-6 hours and it was responding very slowly to commands..and I have lots of things already turned off.  I set up my main email account and re-added my 2 additional yahoo mail accounts.  I was able to set it so my main email only checks when I ask, but the Yahoo one will not stop giving me updates !! I keep going in andf turning off notifications in the email setup but it isn't working.  It keeps vibrating and chiming as soon as I uncheck notifications and changes sound to "none".  How do I shut it up and make my battery last?

        Hello Tapsmom,
Thanks for reaching out to us. We certainly don't want you to have to worry about your battery legnth. When you are entering the settings for the yahoo mail, are you going through the general settings on the phone or going into the app and going into its settings. You should be able to access the app and press the menu button to get settings for those specific email accounts. Then you should be able to change the settings to turn off "notifications" as well as sync. Turning syncing off will allow you to get a manual push once you want to go check the mail. Also, since you have multiple yahoo accounts, are you using the stock Yahoo app or a 3rd party app to check those emails? 3rd party apps may have different push settings that will need to be changed. Please let us know if you need anymore help.

  • HT201263 When my Ipod touch is in autolock I can only restart the device holding the sleep/wake button and home button at the same time for 10 seconds.  While in auto-lock it is using battery power and will do so until the battery is drained.  Whats wrong

When my Ipod touch is in autolock I can only restart the device holding the sleep/wake button and home button at the same time for 10 seconds.  While in auto-lock it is using battery power and will do so until the battery is drained.  Whats wrong?

    - Try a reset. Nothing is lost:
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
    - Connect the iPod to your computer and try to restore via iTunes. Try placing in Recovery mode if necessary to restore.
    - If you can't turn the iPod completely off, let the batter fully drain. After charging for at lerast anhour try again
    - If still not successful time for an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

The mdnsresponder will not quit.  Consumes above 100% CPU and kills my battery.  Also causes my fan to run constantly and my computer to get extremely hot.  Force quitting doesn't work.  It just comes back.   I posted about this earlier and never got an answer.  Somebody, please help.
    Thanks.

mDNSResponder is a background process that runs all the time. If you kill it, it's relaunched automatically.
Please launch the Console application and select "system.log" from the file list. Enter "mDNSResponder" (without the quotes) in the search field. Post a sample of the log messages in the Console window -- only one example of each repeated message, please.

Try to position your iphone that the screen is facing away from your skin.
Make sure that the back part of your phone will be the one that will contact your skin inside your pocket
    Thats what i do:)

  • OS upgrade kills Exchange email sync and flattens battery

I did the upgrade to 10.0.10.90 on Saturday. Since then my Exchange email account stopped working, the device often feels warm, and the battery goes flat in a few hours (even without use).
I saw another problem KB33828 wonder if this is related. Vodafone can't/won't help.
Everything else still working, including 2 other non-Exchange email accounts.

    Hey peter_r_miles,
Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
    Thanks for the question.
That KB article would be related if your email account gets re-added every few minutes.  Since this is a new issue we will need to gather logs to find the root cause.  Please contact your network service provider and ask to be transferred to BlackBerry.
    Thank you.

  • Ubd activity - what is it, and why is it using 87% of my processors, and killing my battery?

I have only seen two threads that have the term ubd and battery.  I've shut off my bluetooth, my wifi, and all of my apps, and ubd still fluctuates between 7% and 87% with no explanation.  I have a new MPB (non-retina), and my battery lasts perhaps 1 hour doing emails and internet.  I can't go unplugged at all and expect to do photoshop or any other processor-intensive app.  I'm on 10.8.3, and I've got 16GB of RAM, and a 1TB 7200RPM internal hard drive.  My wife's 13" mbp is 3 years old, and she is on 10.7, and she gets 4 hours of usage in lightroom and photoshop, so what the heck is going on?
Also, I don't use antivirus or other firewall apps, in case you're wondering.  I like to keep background stuff to a minimum.
It would be great if the mac support folks could chime in, and thanks in advance for anyone who might be able to help.
    Thanks!

  • I got my iphone 5 3 weeks ago and the battery life is very short. It drains out very fast. Does anyone know if it's a problem with the iOS or with my phone? Because I'm a bit concerned

I recieved my iPhone 5 3 weeks ago and the battery life completely *****! After doing a few things and maybe using it for about 30 minutes the phone start overheating like crazy then the battery starts dropping very fast. Does anyone know if it's a problem with the iOS or with my phone? And is anyone else expierenceing these problems?

It sounds like you have an app that is incorrectly continuously using data and power... from normal use the phone should NOT be getting that warm... only constant video playing via data like Netflix for example would result in that...
I'd say that you should remove all apps in the recent app tray... tunr phone off... then once you power back on...
Hold BOTH home and sleep wake buttons together until you see a white apple symbol... then release both buttons...
This will ensure you have no apps running...
I've experienced a hang up with mail while out and about that has resulted in this on my iPhone as well... Once I performed these steps it was fixed... it seemed like it got stuck and that's what caused the warm phone and battery drain...
I notived that when it gets stuck (mail app that is) I will see the text connecting at the bottom and it never changes to "updated" like it should... this is my trigger that it's gotten stuck.
Have not really figured out what causes mail app to get stuck yet...

  • Question: I cannot start my iPhone 4. It just "died". I connected it ti my Mac, but tha Mac doesn´t recognise it. Any ideas how to wake the phone. The battery is fine, I just cannot get it working!

    See Here for
    Frozen or unresponsive iPhone
Try this first... You will not lose any Data...
Press and Hold the Sleep/Wake Button and the Home Button at the Same Time...
Wait for the Apple logo to Appear...
Usually takes about 15 - 20 Seconds... ( But can take Longer...)
    Release the Buttons...

If that does not work... try letting the battery fully drain.
Then Charge for an Hour and try the suggestions again.

  • Hello I just wake up and I found my iphone 5 is off

Hello I just wake up and I found my phone is off and it was full charge last night but I don't know what's going on

    Hey there Rema1989,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!
It sounds like the phone tured off over night and will not turn back on.
I would recommend these troubleshooting steps from the article named:
    iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2802
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIsand corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.
    Regards,
    Sterling

  • HT1296 Since I downloaded iOS 7, my iPhone is constantly turning itself off and the battery useage is twice what it used to be.  I want iOS 6 back!  How do I uninstall iOS 7?

I downloaded iOS 7.0.2, and now my iPhone 5 keeps turning itself off and the battery useage is twice what it was.  I want iOS 6 back!  How do I uninstall iOS 7?>

So, after it charged and was still plugged in, I deleted the Exchange account and then reset it holding down the sleep wake buttons until the apple logo appeared. I also changed the limit on my emails to 3 days instead of 1 week.  It turned on, so I turned it off and let it charge overnight.  This morning, it stayed on for 3 whole hours and then shut itself off again.  I had to try 5 times to get it to come back on.  Now, a message appeared that Exchange cannot verify a server, I can't see the full name of the server anymore, but it is *.hotmail.com GlobalSign Root CA from Microsoft. So I'm selecting Accept to see what happens.  I'm very discouraged, I need my phone to be reliable for my work.  It was reliable for 11 months without one problem, and now since I downloaded iOS 7, it hasn't been on for one full day since.

  • Hot iPhone 4 And Draining Battery

I had to wait until this January to finally get my iPhone 4.  A couple of months ago I had to get it replaced by Apple because the ear piece on the phone stopped working. Great customer service by the way. I received the replcement very quickly. Two or three weeks ago I went to get my phone and it was very hot. I hadn't been using it and the battery had drained quite a bit. I checked to be sure and I had zero apps running. But after a shut down and restart it was fine.
But it seems to be doing this a couple of times a week now. I don't want to panic but would like to know what this could be. I just don't want to get stuck with a dead phone either. My year warranty is up at the end of this coming January. But I also don't want to make a claim if I don't have to, I really don't want Apple to think I'm trying to just get a new one.
Has anyone else experienced this and in your opinion should I contact Apple for a replacement?
    Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!

I reckon you should take it to Apple and tell them your issue. They are most likely to replace the iPhone, even though they might not be able to see the issue at the store. I recently got my iphone 4 replaced with a new one because of a defective home button. The home button issue did not show up at the Apple store, but he said this can happen where issues occur at home and not at the store so he replaced it with a brand new one.  you should be fine, as long as your iPhone is still in warranty.

  • Why does my iPad Mini Retina Display battery drain so quickly? I will be playing some 3d games and it says the battery is 90% but I'll turn off and turn  in back on it about 30 minutes and the battery is only 70%. Why is the reading so inaccurate?

I will be playing some 3d games and it says the battery is 90% but I'll turn off and turn  in back on it about 30 minutes and the battery is only 70%. Why is the reading so inaccurate? I understand that 3d games on high brightness will drain my battery quickly, but why doesn't it tell be how low it is to begin with? The other night it said it was around 35% and I turned it on in the morning and it was only 3%?

Sorry there are some typos above, but you should be able to figure out what I'm asking. Let me know if you have tha same problem, know how to fix it, or know if apple is aware of the problem and is adressing it in a future update.
