Okay, programmers, here're the ideas:
1) Some application that will access an iPhoto album and change the desktop wallpaper randomly (at intervals the user chooses).
2) It amazes me that Apple organizes your ringtones in iTunes and yet there is no Ringtone pane in the iPhone's iPod program. I mean, I have (and made) a ton of ringtones and if I wanna play them for someone, I have to go into contacts, choose a person and change their ringtones to play them. C'mon! There should be a Ringtone Manager app!! Duh!

Hey MovieKid, Great idea, I've also got a few app ideas that I would be willing to pay for. Hopefully we can get a good list going that may attact the attention of Apple / a few developers :
1) To do / Task syncing with Outlook
2) GPS waypoint exporting for use with GIS systems (proper GPS functionality)
3) Auto profiles such as available for Windows Mobile 05/06 so that the iPhone turns to silent automatically if a meeting is in your calendar...no need to remember to silence your phone in meetings or appointments.
4) Backgammon
Anyone got any more?...please post

Hot and slow while only running two apps

Ive got a 3.0gGHz dual, 4GB, with 354GB of space left on the HDD. Most of what im doing on the computer is playing World of Warcraft, windowed, with safari open (a very popular thing for those unaware). These are the only two apps ill have open, and not only will the computer become incredibly hot, upwards of 95C, but when clicking between the two and attempting to load pages, it beachballs until clicking back into the game, when the page strangely and quickly loads. I have to have the fans blowing as a gusty 6200rpm with a 2000rpm cooling fan pad underneath just to get it down to 80C, but it still fluctuates. I took it into the genius bar in Atlanta while on vacation, and while they didnt have time to do an OS test (i had to get back on the road), they did a hardware test and found no problems. The genius wasn't much help and had no idea about it being slow or anything, just kind of addressed the heat issue, which what i thought might have been the root cause. After having a desktop computer with only a 2.8 single core and 4GB (windows) with no problems in terms of speed, im feeling that theres got to be something wonky going on. Ive repaired permissions but not done a disk repair. I dont want to reload the OS...because well i feel after switching from PC to Mac its a bit of a copout. Any suggestions? Possibly just some better cooling pads and cooling solutions?

And Safari is good to have open so you can look up various things while youre playing.

Not unless there's Flash or other streaming video content on the page being displayed, no. If there is any, it might very well beachball. Flash is a gigantic processor hog.

Help with accessing same keychain data from two apps with bundled appid

I have two ios apps that I'd like to share the same keychain data.
According to the apple docs, this should be possible as long as I've set up the appid with a wild card, which I did from the provisioning portal:
appid:   bundleID.*
Then, in the AIR for IOS settings of the flash ide, in the App ID field, I made the two apps be members fo the this appid: bundleID.app1 and bundleID.app2
But when I use the EncriptedLocalStore class to access the data from one of the apps that the other app stored, it isn't available.
But each app, independently, is successfully writing to/reading data from the keychain.
From what I've read, I'm doing everything right. But clearly I'm not because it isn't working.

To all iPhone developers: Two apps I would buy-
1. An app that could view and edit Microsoft Office files (Word, Powerpoint, Excel) is vital.
2. An app that could stream live TV and even record it (with the ability do delete it afterwards of cource)
So if a developer is thinking about making one of these apps post a reply to this post.
Also, if anyone else has an idea of a app that the iPhone should have reply too.

The developer for this would likely be Microsoft - developing an office version that is iPhone compatible.
So if a developer is thinking about making one of these apps post a reply to this post.
I don't believe a developer can do so per Apple's NDA - non-disclosure agreement for developers that have been approved and accepted into the program.

Lirc: Looking for a way to map the same button to two apps

I have two apps on my PC that I would like to control: One is Mplayer, and one is Amarok. Now, I'd like a way to use (for example) the same buttons for volume, play/pause and skip/rew in both apps, but I have no idea how to do this, short of writing two lirc.confs, writing a script to swap them out and launching the script via irexec.
Can anyone think of a simpler way to do this or do I need to do it the hard way?
Ideally, I'd like it to be hierarchical: if mplayer is running, it gets the command. Otherwise, Amarok gets it (since it's always running anyways).

I have two apps on my Mac App Store that won't update no matter what I do.
One of them is not even mine. It shows a weird russian email address that does not belong to me.
The other one says "updated" but won't go away from the updates list no matter what I do (Reboots, etc).
How can I erase them? I need niether apps.

Hey!
There are two things here. The first one is that the apps aren't of course hacked/pirated. The mac is of a friend of mine. She's 65 or something and has no idea on how to hack apps, plus, afaik, nobody else has access to her computer.
Secondly, the thing is that niether app shows at the app list, and we even made a find from a terminal window, and got no results of the apps.
It is a very strange behavoir and if somebody has a solution I'll be glad to hear it.
BTW, She just upgraded her machine to OS X 10.8.1, I'll check if the upgrad fixed the bug.

Is this a new Apple iD? If it is, and you have already set it up, then you have two options:
1. Temporarily put a Credit Card or Gift Card on the account to download the free app. If you put a credit card, then once you have downloaded the app, you should be able to go into your Account preferences and change the payment option to = None.
2. You can download the fee App, and then set up a new Apple ID.

Two new IDE-Controllers after BIOS update, but not installable

Hi there,
i recently updated my bios to the latest version and now the following strange thing happens:
when i boot my machine (875P NEO, P4 2.8 GHz, 1 GB RAM, 2 Otical drives at IDE0, 2 S-ATA drives at the S-ATA-controller, WIN XP SP), there are two new IDE (primary and secondary) Chanels to be found by the system.
Windows seems to act normal as it states them "new device found" (all that in german as i live here and tries to install the proper drivers, i think.
but then the new-devices-assistant pops up and tells me, that they cannot be installed because there are no drivers for my system.
i even used the actual inf-drivers from the msi-site.
that will happen at every start. in the hardware-manager there are both ide-devices marked as non-functional with a yellow sign in front of them with a exclamation mark in it.
oh, and my office installation wants the same .cab-file from the installation-cd everytime i boot the system.
the bios was the only thing changed.
does anyone have an idea whatr to do?

yeah, seems like the same symptoms.
my version was 3.6 from october 2004. Version 3.5 from september works fine except for the cpu temperature beeing displayed too high in bios...
rollback to 2.5 did not work, still the same though i did not do the thing with the cmos-reset via jumper. will try this today...

Two app questions

Ok all, I have two app questions.
1. Ever since the IOS 5.1 update, some streams on Tune In Radio Pro do not play in stereo and I can't find a way to fix it! I've tried turning mono audio on and off, turning AAC streams on and off, and still nothing. Could it be that my phone is complaining that it doesn't have a sim card? That's my only theory at this point. I thought it had something to do with the stream bitrate and I have been working with the TuneIn support to try and get to the bottom of this, but nothing has worked. I thought it was just the 32 kbps and 48 kbps aac streams affected, but it seems to be all on some streaming providers. Here's some of the stations I've logged mono audio on, in Spokane, KZZU and KZBD, in Saint Lewis, WARH, in DC WRQX, in New York WPLJ, in Portland Maine WHOM, in Philidelphia WBEN, and in Yakima KFFM. These are all 32 or 48 kbps streams. I can't get stereo on KQMV or KLCK in Seattle, haven't tried KLCK actually as I listen to that enough over the air, I am just basing that one on how TuneIn is acting. I can also get KFFM in stereo via Radio Pup, so in that instance, it seems to be just a TuneIn issue. WBEN is also on IHeart Radio and does not come in in stereo on either app. I didn't mention KFAT in Ankorage, AK because they are with one of the providers that doesn't seem to have a stereo aac stream on TuneIn at all. Other stations in this category dealing with two providers here, WCLI in Dayton, OH, WJDQ Meridian MS, KMGL Oklahoma City, KLMY in Long Beach WA, not listed in a market on TuneIn, KRXY in Shelton also not listed under a city, and I feel like I am forgetting a few but that's most of them. If I didn't mention it before, KQMV and KLCK have 64 kbps aac streams as well as 32 kbps aac streams, problem only occurs on 32 kbps streams there. Any solution?
2. Now this next question will go really fast. TuneIn must use some kind of audio capturing software to record, but you can only do that with TuneIn stations. Is there a way to do this with other apps, such as the hd radio that works with the Ibiquity app in the app store?

Well, here's the skinny then. If it's an isolated issue and you cannot provide a way of replicating the problem, the Apple does not consider it an OS X problem. Rather it's a problem with the third-party software. Given what you have reported I'd tend to agree with that viewpoint.
There are some third-party utilities that enable audio capture from applications that don't support it themselves. The best of them is Audio Hijack Pro 2.10.3. I highly recommend it.
If you are interested in Internet radio then you should check out Radium 2.8.3 and/or World Radio 2.0 and/or Radioshift 1.6.7. The last one will record its audio.

OIA jobs.xml constrain execute of file import on only one of two app server

I am trying to get the jobs.xml and scheduling-context.xml files to fire an import job on one of the two app servers. There are two application servers utilizing the same shared database. Files to import into OIA reside on one of the two application servers file systems only and we want to use the jobs.xml and scheduling-context.xml files on one of the app servers to setup the imports.
I have these two beans enabled

Is the IAMServerName value suppose to have the literal hostname of the application server (ex. "oia.bluebird.com") configured in place of the default "FILE_SERVER" text?

Hi Meg,
I have to say that I've only seen the jobs.xml be defined for data feeds only. It does not make calls out to app/DB servers OOTB.
The alternative solution are the following:
1. Use your IDM provisioning connector to the application then pull the data from the IDM product into OIA
2. Extract the data from the app server using the ETL functionality/engine within the OIA product to extract the data into a data feed (then OIA will pick that up)
3. Construct some extracting functionality (like a java class) instead of ETL

One WebCam, Send to Two Apps?

My friend is using an external Logitech webcam with WebEx. WebEx records, but the native format isn't great, and she wants to be able to record via the Logitech software. My question, I've read about Mac apps that will let one web camera be used for two apps at the same time, effectively sending the feed to the WebEx meeting, and the other to the Logitech recorder.
Has anyone tried this?
I have a second camera just in case, so I'll use one for WebEx and one to record locally, but if I can use one cam for both, that would be great.

I probably messed up following the instructions. Since I had already used the base stations I went to the second option (Using AirPort Admin Utility) and started setting one of them up. I got to the area where it wanted me to add it to a network and I typed in a network name (of course, I had not created a network before so I just guessed that I could do it now--wrong!). Nothing happened and that base station has disappeared. I ready your instructions more carefully and managed to set up the second base station AFTER creating a network (Using AirPort Setup Assistant).
But now I cannot get the first base station to show up. I have tried the hard reset (holding in the reset while plugging in the base station) and I have reinstalled the airport software.
Is there anything I can do to get access to this base station?

Two Apps Suddenly Are Unable to Load Data

Hello,
This problem may or may not be from LightSwitch. I have two apps on Azure websites, with Azure DBs. One has been working great since deployment, about 10 months ago. The other has been working well since Nov. As of today, both
are unable to run their queries or load data.
Nothing has changed on our end and I am getting so many different error codes, but the gist is that they are unable to connect.
I've checked both databases and they are working.
I've noticed one error message that says the URI http://site.azurewebsites.net//ApplicationData.svc/etc is not valid because it is not based on http://site.azurewebsites.net/ApplicationData.svc/
Does anyone else have a production app this has happened to? Or know how to get those URIs matching again? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Chris
You'll notice below that David Ebbo has assisted in trying to get my site up and applied a work-around but it hasn't fixed my issue.
He's had to leave the office so I'm trying everything I can think of to get my site back up.

I'm just stabbing in the dark but my HTML client gives this error "Request failed with status code '400' and status text 'Bad Request'" and in the forum I find that someone also experienced the issue at this topic:

Woo Hoo. I went to Cloud Cellar and recovered files only from my backup and now my HTML client works :-)
My SL client gets all the way past loading nearly all the initial screen data then comes up with this error:
"The metadata URI 'http://login.skemaz.net/ApplicationData.svc/$metadata#Chains' references the entity type with name 'LightSwitchApplication.Chain'; however, the name of the expected entity type is 'LightSwitchApplication.ChainsTemp' which is not compatible
with the entity type with name 'LightSwitchApplication.Chain'."

Select the purchased link from under the Quick Links section on the right.
Navigate to what you purchased under music. Then you can redownload by clicking the cloud icon next to any item

Need Help Finding Two Apps

There are two apps that I'm desperate to find.
One is an app where you hold up your iPhone to a stereo or something when you want to know what song is playing, and it tells you what song it is.
The other is an app where you speak into the phone and it converts it into a text message and sends it out to whoever you want. Not iJott.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Shazam and midomi are the song recognition apps.
The second one you're thinking of is called Jott most likely. I'm not sure about the sending feature you mention, but it does convert voice to text, although takes some time to do so.

Web browser apps display the same warning - and as Rkedge pointed out - any app that accesses web content may show that warning.
Atomic, Mercury, Google Chrome, iCab Mobile ... All web browsers and I think that they all display that same warning.
