Two FK's referencing one dimension

Hello, I'd like to have two columns in a fact which are connected to the same dimension. Is this possible in OWB and how ?

Yes this is possible, simply go into the cube wizard and add the same dimension twice in the FK screen.

We have numeric codes at each level above item which I represents the sort order (the number in parentheses at each level), and the items themselves should be sorted according to item number. I have implemented this (level code/item number) as an attribute in AWM making this the default sort order. However, as item is the lowest level in each hierarchy, I have only been able to list the items under the correct level in one hierarchy. As soon as I drill using the other hierarchy, the levels above item are sorted correctly, but the items appear at very odd places...
The AWM documentation states that if default order is not selected on any attribute, hierarchies are sorted in the order they are created. Is there a way to control this order?

thank you for your answer. Yes, now I also find the class CL_SALV_WD_MULTI_CELL_EDITOR which could be used to set different UIE in one cell. But it is quite limited, just the following UIE could be used

Referencing two fact keys from one dimension using Dim.Key = Fact.Key1 OR Fact.Key2 possible ?

In my cube i want the user to select the Accountmonth from one time dimension, but i want some logic to also apply for the ActivityMonth. For one measure if I for example select 201307 i'll get this amount

This is easy - Accountmonth dimension is related to AccountMonth column in the fact table. Now i also need another measure, where the month selected needs to be meet for both accounting and activity month. This is also easy, as i can just reference both
columns in the fact table. Result in this case is then only one row:

I know how to solve it either by having two time dimensions or using MDX, but user should only have to select from one time dimension. So far, solving it using Non-empty/existing in MDX is not performing fast enough. Feedback will be appreaciated if you
have an idea of how to solve this.

One dimension and two fact report in OBIEE

Dear All,
I have one dimension "region" and two facts (Sales value & Gross margin%). Gross margin% is logical column which has been derived from two other facts column and it's value is in range from Zero to 100.
Now, I want to generate below report. For each gross margin% range of 5%, I want to sum the sales value for each region. Please assist (Just a small snapshot of report)

Create Bins for Gross% fact column and go to pivot view place Gross% fact column into rows area,region column into columns section and sales value into measures section

Unable to join two fact tables via one common dimension in RPD(Repository)

I have created two fact tables F1 & F2 and one dimension D.
F1 is joined to D and F2 is also joined to D in Physical layer as well as in BMM layer.
I created one report in OBI Answers using these three tables.It Showed me the following error.

How to cope up with the issue or can anyone tell me the alternate workaround for this?

That is what i have tried.
I have made a logical table TEST and dragged two fact tables f1 & f2 in source.
Now when i drag different columns from different fact tables(that are in TEST logical table) in report, it gives an error and not making any joins that you are mentioning.
ERROR MESSAGE:--

The columns mentioned in the error message are all from test logical table..some are from F1 & some from F2.

Joining Two facts with one dimension

Hello Experts,I am reporting out of 2 fact groups.
Mailing History and Booking.
The only common dimension between the 2 is the Person Dimension. I have created the hierarchies and defined the aggregation content in the LTS.This helps me in reporting using any column from the Facts or any one dimension from either of the fact groups. But if i select 2 or more dimensions , one or more from each fact group , then the report gives and error. A general error has occurred. [nQSError: 14026] Unable to navigate requested expression: MailingHistory Campaign.Campaign Name. Please fix the metadata consistency warnings. (HY000)
For Example : BookingDim--BookingFact-MailingHistoryFact (ok) MailingSourceDim--BookingFact-MailingHistoryFact works (ok) but BookingDim--BookingFact-MailingHistoryFact - MailingsourceDim (Fails ).
When i am applying the filter from the fact 1 . i am getting this error.(which is the column in the second fact table 2).I checked all the joins in the BMM layer.
Please help me!!!

Surya did you set the levels properly for two fact tables and also for metrics.
When ever you are using two fact groups with non confirmed dimensions you have to make sure all the content levels set for the fact tables and as well as for metrics.
in your fact tables/ metrics - For related dimensions set the level to Detail. and for the non related dimension set the level to Total. This way obiee server will understand what is related dimension and whats not related..

Show name field for two columns Fact Table joing by one Dimension

My question is about physical joins in Oracle BI EE.
Task is:
In a relational fact table "star" there is two columns Entity 1, Entity 2 and a table dimension Entity witch have two filds: ID and NAME. By loadind data fact table is filled with id for Entity 1 and Entity 2.
In a report made in Answers i need to show ID_Entity_1 NAME_Entity_1 ID_Entity_2 NAME_Entity_2
Question is: how to do physical join between two columns fact table and one dimension table entity so, that i can show name field in a report for both columns Entity 1, Entity 2.

You must Create an alias in the physical layer of your table dimEnsion and use it as a second dimension table.

Selecting one dimension of a two dimension array?

hi, i want to select only one dimension of an array and put it into an arraylist (or casting the array verbatim into the arraylist)
for example, here is an two dimension array:

First, the strings that are printed out are the value of the hashcode for the specific object. That is the default value that is printed out for any object reference in a class that inherits the toString() method from the Object class. This is true for arrays. Your ArrayList contains array references in it..
So, you are printing the object hashcodes for the arrays in your ArrayList, instead of the contents of those arrays. It would be better if you created ArrayLists, or even designed an object that stores your data, and stored those inside your ArrayList. ArrayList has an overwritten toString() method that will print the contents instead of the object hashcode, so an ArrayList containing ArrayLists would print your data the way you want. If you define your own class, you will need to provide a toString() method that prints the contents the way you want.
PS, look at http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/api/java/util/AbstractCollection.html#toString() for more information on the toString() method used by ArrayList.

I had two dimension: Index and Company, Now ,I think to unite one dimension Index_Company.
I use bw query.

For the time being there no support for string concatenation directly at MDX level. I would suggest to try this in the WebI report itself.

What are impact of Braking one dimension into two

Hi Champs,
I have one Dimension say Product that has two child AC and AP. and these two children has two childs each.
and further these devided into many levels.
this is like
Product
-AC
-CC_A
-CC_B
-AP
-CP_A
-CP_B
A,B are showing some member, but both are repeting AC and AP.
Now I need to create a seperate dimension for A and B and remove from Product.
How this will be done and on what objects of Essbase will be affected. How to do.

Breaking a dimension into multiple dimensions has a number of implications. You have to modify dimension build and load rules, caclulation scripts, report scripts and front end tools/templates and source files to use the new structure. IT can be a lot of work.
I could not tell by your example, when you split the dimension in two, will you be able to get the data as an intersection of the two dimensions? If not, it would be hard to split. Can you explain further why the dimension needs to be split into to and perhaps I can make a more informed recomendation.
The paractical answer of exporting the data from Will is correct. You will need to export the existing data (or get it from source again) in a column format and create load rules to be able to reload it. Depending on how the intersections work, it might be an easy or extremely hard task

Two fact and one dimension table

i am new to this field ( 3 months ), my TL has given me one task i have to finish it up today itself, Can anyone one give me some idea how to implement
req. The req is
1. there are 2 fact and one dimension table is there, i have to create reports on Quaterly and monthly basis by using one dimension table.
Can any one tell me what all are the steps in need to follow
2.What is standalone and integrated systems?

If u r having mapping keys for quarter level n monthly level then create a Alias for the dimension table.Use the original dim table for quarter level mapping and the alias dim for monthly level.

Use one dimension to feed 2 other dimensions

Is there a way to use one dimension to push data into two other dimensions using push logic? The client has one dimension in App1 that is a combination of 2 dimensions in App2 ie the Costcenter dimension in App1 is a combination of Plant and Account in App2.
Now they want to push data from App1 into App2 using the Costcenter dimension to populate the Plant and Account.
I have Plant and Acct properties in the Costcenter dimension for mapping.
I tried to use *Rename_dim CC= CC.Plant and *Rename_dim CC=CC.Acct but would get errors when validating the logic script.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

One dimension used twice in a cube

I have one dimension, but it has two meanings. How can i use the same dimension twice in the same cube as it was two separate dimension?
Example:
There is dimension "Region". The fact table has two keys. First key means - "region of birth", and second "region of living". So one dimension has two meanings.
I tried put the same dimension twice with two different aliases in one cube. OEM shows such cube as valid, but querrying it through OLAP API, or building analytic workspace based on this cube is impossible (error ORA-1007).
The only workaround i see is to build two separate but identical dimensions.The bad side of this is that i have to create two separate but identical tables of data for those dimensions (i can't create two levels from the same column).

i work with Oracle9iR2

i did the same on Oracle9iR2 with OEM 9.2.0.1.0.
Creating the cube with two aliases for one dimension was ok.
But creating MOLAP cube from that source cube using AWM was impossible .
Also querrying that cube (the one created in OEM) for example through Discoverer or Excel is imposible.
I searched forums on that question, and some people had the same problem, but no answer.

Multiple 'logical joins' between a fact table and one dimension table

It appears that one cannot create multiple ‘logical joins’ between a fact table and one dimension table in OBIEE using the Oracle BI Administration Tool. For example, considering a Business Model with a dimension table TIMES and a fact table FACT containing START_TIME and END_TIME, we would like to create separate logical joins from FACT to TIMES for the START_TIMEs and END_TIMEs? Obviously, the underlying foreign keys can be created, but as far as I can tell the Oracle BI Administration Tool doesn’t support this. The workaround would be to replicate the TIMES table, but that’s ugly.
I seek an alternative approach.

Try this. Create an two aliases for the TIMES dimension (Start & End) in the Physical Layer and then remove foreign key to the "Parent" Times dimension. Create the Foreign Key in the Physical Layer to the new aliases and then create the complex joins in the BMM Layer to the new aliases as well. This will allow you to present both dates within the same table in the Presentation Layer. Not the most elegant solution but it works.
