Two variants of installing printers. What to choose?

Hello!
I have a print server based on Widows 2008 R2 OS and more than 50 clients based on Windows 7 SP1 and later OS.
I know two ways of installing printers via GPO by selecting different options.
1) User configuration - Windows settings - Deployed printers - Add
I can achieve the same result through a print server by selecting a printer and selecting the "Deploy with Group Policy..." option.
2) User configuration - Preferences - Control Panel Settings - Printers
What way should I use if I have only Windows 7 clients and users are not administrators on their PCs?
I understand that the second variant has more options (Create, Update, Delete and so on) but I don't plan to use it.
And the second question: How to prevent appearing "Update driver" screen (after updating drivers on a print server) if users as I said do not have administrative privileges?

PS. As for second question, changing 'User Configuration - Policies - Administrative templates - Control Panel - Printers - Point and Print Restriction" option to Disable does not help me.

1) So if I apply Preference settings for deploying printers users will be able simply to delete for example installed printers and so on. Right? And therefor I should apply the first resolution.
2) On the page you have refered to I found the following "The Point and Print Restrictions setting can also be found under
User Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\Control Panel\Printers. This policy is ignored by Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2...". So as I understand
the Windows 7 clients simply ignore those settings. Am I right?

What does choosing interface as public or private during rac install mean? You see the option on the OUI screen in the step after adding nodes on which you need the install.

Public: Is the interfacce where the connection to the db is done (user, application server etc).
Private: Used for communication between the nodes in the cluster and is done by the instances. No one should be able to connect via this interface.

Two Quicktime 7 installing b4 iLife questions

After scouring the various Apple discussion groups I decided to post this.
I've been using FCPro HD 4.5 for a couple of years now in 10.3.9 and QT 6.5.2 with great stability on the described system profile below.
I have hesitated upgrading to Tiger or QT 7 fearing a wrench will be thrown into the works. But due to iDVD5's finicky recognition of my Sony 820DL-ULT external FW burner(which shows vendor support on System profile).
I bought iLife06 for iDVD's specific ext. drive feature only to find one of the system requirements was QT 7.0.4 or later. Ugh!
QT 7.0.4 is on the disc. After reading the results of this version I don't know what to do.
I have two separate external bootable clones of my system.
I restarted from one of these and tried to update to 7.0.4 on one of those systems for a test drive, knowing I can easily copy it back.
But when QT 7 Install window shows to choose which disk to upgrade, it won't allow me to upgrade to this booted drive saying, it will only do the disc running the OSX system. I don't understand why. If I changed startup disc and restarted, repaired permissions why does it not think it is running OSX?
I have these questions:
Is there a point in the QT updates where the instability begins for 10.3.9?
Which version of QT is most stable in this environment?
I am running iTunes 6.0.5 as I am uninterested in iTunes video and although I've got only 18gb iTunes file, I've never purchased from iTunes store.
Anything I am missing here?

The installshield engine is only reqiuired for uninstalling older (QuickTime 7.1.0 or earlier) versions of QuickTime. It's not required for the install of the new version. So if we can get the existing QyuickTime uninstalled by other means than the Add/Remove Programs control panel, the install of the new version should go through okay.
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from Microsoft:

Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any QuickTime entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another QuickTime install. Does it go through properly this time?

Installing Printers from Windows 2008 R2 printer server using the Cname

Am having issues installing printers on workstations from the windows 2008 R2 print server using the DNS names. the servername and Full qualified Name works fine.
l have tweaked the Registry and Disabled the StrictNameChecking but still getting an error. this is the message am getting...

You do not have enough privilege to complete the printer installation on the local machine.

I think I solved this yesterday. We got 1 printserver, with an alias, which we had this problem to connect to. I noticed that there is a difference between x86 and 64bits system entries in the registry...
When you are having a 64bit system, you must use REG_QWORD instead of REG_DWORD, REG_DWORD is only to be used in x86 system! See below.

Acrobat ver 9.4.2 does not see my installed printers

after the latest update Adobe Acrobat does not see my installed printers - Adobe Reader sees them fine - this is creating a major problem for me as I now had to go in and mark reader as the default program - every time I try to print from acrobat it tells me I have to install a printer first - I have more than 2 printer installed ( local and network printers) what is going on and how can I fix this - have tried doing a repair with no luck

As suggested in a previous post I looked up the Support posting in the Forums about this issue, looking for the same solution from the issue we are experiencing since that last update. I used the first solution which seems to have worked.

My only issue with this was clicking on manifest file, windows saved it as a .xml file not .manifest file extension. Windows does see .manifest as a .xml file but does not have a viewer to open it. I changed the saved .xml file to .manifest and then followed the instructions of copying the file into the Acrobat folder, rebooted the computer. Now the original default printer works with Acrobat 9 Pro.
Another strange thing about this problem is that if you change your default printer to another printer in printer/faxes it will see those but not the original default printer. But the above solution did work for me.

you are using Two parameters for 2 variants. why?
are you showing two Grids.if so you can use..But not able to understand what you are doing..

I'm trying to create an applescript to install printers - cant seem to get it to work

So I'm running 10.7and I'm trying to create an applescript to install printers. I'm able to run the first command without issues but the other two keeps giving me error messages in applescript.
I assume its because the other two commands have spaces?
These are the commands I run when in Terminal:
/usr/sbin/lpadmin -p CX560 -E -v lpd://CX560/print -P /Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources/en.lproj/US-Letter/CX560_V1.PPD -D FireStationCX560

First things, when you post about a script and/or any errors you are getting it is a good idea to include the scrtpt and the exact error message you are getting. Just makes it easier to try and help.
You're right about the spaces being the problem. You need to double escape them. That is
/usr/sbin/lpadmin -p CX560-WORD -E -v lpd://CX560/print -P /Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources/en.lproj/Xerox\\ Color\ EX\\ 550-560 -D FireStationCX560-WORD
that should do it. If you;re still getting errors post bask with the error message.

I`m printing some docs using the Printable and Pageable interfaces, but i need to be able to list all the system`s installed printers and then allow the user to choose one of them to send my jobs to print...
how could I do that?!

Installing printers after reinstall of OS

Second problem after reinstall of OS X on a misbehaving drive (drive was wiped clean, then a clean install done).
We can't install printers.
We know where the printer drivers are located that we want to use. However, we don't know where OS X wants these drivers to be to find them using Printer Setup Utility. Do we have to start from scratch and use the Epson or Xerox driver installers? If we search for a printer that Setup Utility DOES find, our finder does not see them in ANY folder on our system. They are SOMEWHERE...are they HIDDEN? AAAAGGGGGHHHHH. We don't really have time for this. We so seldom delve into the guts of the OS that it's not second nature, like OS 9 was for us.
On another G4, they are located in Home>users>"username">Library>Printers.
On yet another, they are in
Home>users>"username">Library>Printers>PPDs>Contents>Resources>en.lproj

It sounds like you have a shop with more than one mac.
The first thing that I would do is get Printer Setup Repair from Fixamac. It has saved my bacon more than one time. It also has the ability to properly install ppd's. Just use PSR to find the ppd and press the install button. PSR can be downloaded here and is shareware. You can use it without paying for it but the longer you have it the longer it takes before you get to use it. I bought my copy after it fixed printer services a couple of times when nothing else would.

Want to learn more??, If you installed the Developer Package, then you have the best resource for ppd's on X. Just search for ppd on your boot volume.
In the event that none of your macs have the Developer Tools installed here is a quote from the files (there is also a ton of other great info in these files)
How Mac OS X Searches for and Chooses PPD Files
Mac OS X searches for a PostScript printer's PPD file when a user creates a print queue. Mac OS X automatically searches for PPD files in the appropriate localized folder. First, it looks in the en.lproj folder in following locations, in this order:
• /Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources/
• /System/Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources/
If it finds a PPD file for the printer in the en.lproj folder, it then looks for the localized PPD file in the language folder for the currently active language. See "Installing PPD Files" for information on localized folders.
Note: The active language is the preferred language of the user who created the print queue. If the preferred language is changed, the language of the print queue does not change unless the queue is deleted and then created again.
If Mac OS X doesn't find a PPD file for a PostScript printer in either location, it looks in the Classic System Folder, provided the Classic environment has been run once or the Classic System Folder has been selected at least once in the Startup Disk pane of System Preferences. In other words, Mac OS X must know of the existence of the Classic System Folder.

Can I have two mozilla´s installed on my computer??

I share the computer with a cousin, and, I would like to know if it is possible to have two mozilla firefox installed on my computer and with two languages different, portuguese and english ?? Is that possible?? If yes, HOW??

To install the second language version, download the installer from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
To install it you need to use the [[custom installation of Firefox on Windows]], and choose a different destination folder.
You should also create different user profiles for the two versions (profiles store user data and settings). To do that see the following http://kb.mozillazine.org/Creating_a_new_Firefox_profile_on_Windows
You also need to create shortcuts for each version that load the correct profile, for details see http://kb.mozillazine.org/Shortcut_to_a_specific_profile
If you want the Brazilian Portuguese version there is another way to do this. There are language packs that can be added to Firefox, but for Portuguese only the Brazilian Portuguese language pack available.
You can install the Brazilian Portuguese language pack onto the English version of Firefox, it is available from https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/language-tools/
Now install the [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1333/ Quick Locale Switcher] add-on to enable you to switch between the two language versions.
