Type 4 jdbc drivers

hi
I want to know that weblogic 7 support type 4 jdbc drivers for oracle
kindly reply me

This isn't a JDBC question. It's a weblogic question.
I'm sure Bea has some documentation on that on their website

  • Help: Connecting Tomcat to CA-IDMS Using JDBC Type 4 Drivers (JNDI)

    Hi there,
I have a rather interesting / complex problem......creating a connection to CA-IDMS from Tomcat using JDBC type 4 drivers (CA provide the type 4 driver).
We have a zSeries 9 IBM mainframe running CA-IDMS r16.1, and I need to connect to the IDMS from Tomcat (running on Linux) using the JDBC Type 4 drivers provided by CA.
At this stage I am struggling with the actual setup and configuration of Tomcat’s server.xml and web.xml files. These are the files where the JDBC configuration is set (I think). I have to setup the CA-IDMS part of the configuration, but that is a different problem. Basically there is a TCP/IP listener on the IDMS, waiting for incoming connections from the JDBC type 4 driver.
I set up a Tomcat to MySQL connection using MySQL Connector / J, which is a similar kind of process to what I am trying to achieve with IDMS. MySQL connector / J came with a jar file which is placed in Tomcat’s lib folder, and then the JDBC setup for the web application is created in Tomcat's server.xml and web.xml files. You can then connect to the MySQL database using JSP and the configured JDBC driver / connection. The CA-IDMS Server comes with an idmsjdbc.jar file, which I think is the JDBC typr 4 driver. I think it needs to be placed in the Tomcat /lib folder, but I don’t know how to set up the configuration.
There is a JDBC DriverManager which allows JDBC drivers to connect to CA-IDMS. The DriverManager recognises the following syntax:
    jdbc:idms://hostname:port/database
This allows the JDBC driver running within Tomcat to connect to the IDMS which is running on the IDM mainframe. CA IDMS r16 supports direct connections from the Type 4 JDBC driver to the Central Version on IDMS. "hostname" is the DNS name or IP address of the machine where the CV is running, and "port" is the IP port that was specified for the listener PTERM (setup on the IDMS side).
There is a caidms.properties file for the JDBC driver, which is used to specify user ID, password, and optional accounting information. It can also be used to specify physical connection information, allowing an application to connect to a CA-IDMS database without requiring the definition of an ODBC style data source. However, I don’t know where to place this file within the Tomcat setup.
There is also an IdmsDataSource class. I don’t know where to configure this or how to set it up; the CA-IDMS Server manual states the following:
This class implements the JDBC DataSource interface. It is used with an application server (Tomcat) providing Java Naming and Directory Interface (JNDI) naming service to establish a connection to a CA IDMS database. IdmsDataSource properties conform to the Java Beans naming conventions and are implicitly defined by public “setter” and “getter” methods. For example, the “description” property, which is required for all DataSource implementations, is set using the setDescription(String) method. The application server may use the java.lang.reflection methods to discover DataSource properties and provide an interface to set them, or may simply require that they are defined in some configuration file. IdmsDataSource properties are used to specify the connection parameters. These properties are the equivalent of the DriverPropertyInfo attributes described in the previous section and can be used to completely define the parameters needed to connect to a database. Like a URL, an IdmsDataSource object can also reference an “ODBC” style data source name, where the connection parameters are defined in the configuration file on Linux.
Is there anyone that can try to point me in the right direction to setting up the JDBC connection? I am totally new to Java and so the instructions are not making much sense at the moment. Any help, hints, tips…..anything will be greatly appreciated as I have just hit a brick wall here. I can't find much to do with setting up the CA-IDMS Server JDBC type 4 driver online either....if anyone can point me to some resources that would also be extremely useful.
    Kind regards
    Jp

You say you've managed to get the JDBC driver working
in an application but not in a JSP. You also say that
    the error you get is
    "com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver".
I'd be willing to bet that the exception that you have
got is a ClassNotFoundException. I.E. your application
server hasn't found the JDBC driver classes. The
application server probably doesn't use your current
CLASSPATH to look for classes. It will be setup within
the application server in some way and you'll need to
check your app server documentation to see how it is
    done.
    Try replacing
    e.printStackTrace();with
e.printStackTrace(out);to get a full stack trace of your error.
ColTried it. Got this error when I tried to run the JSP.
Incompatible type for method. Can't convert javax.servlet.jsp.JspWriter to java.io.PrintWriter.
              e.printStackTrace(out);
I'm currently using Apache Tomcat 4.0.3 as my JSP/Servlet Container.
I'm also using Type 4 MS SQL Server 2000 JDBC driver version 2.0 on my NT4.0 Server.
Do I need to set my JDBC driver in my container? if so, how do I do that?

  • SQL Server 2000 SP3 and jdbc type 4 drivers

    hi all,
Has anybody had any problems using the type 4 jdbc drivers for SQL Server2000 after you upgraded the SQL Server 2000 with the latest Service Pack SP3 ??
    Please reply..
    cheers,
    -Jer

    hi shilohcity,
i did have some problem when i updated my sql server to sp3. The driver i was using.., Atinav's aveConnect3, didn't connect and was throwing exceptions. But after contacting their tech support, they provided me with an updated version, which they had released recently, and that solved the problem. I now believe that with that support, what i paid for that driver was worth it.'cos I would've been kept waiting for the updates if i was using some free driver with poor tech support.
    see these links..
    http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jsp?forum=48&thread=351239
    and another one

I do think this is some problem that could be solved by the driver vendors. the M$ 's TDS version is still a mystery as far as i know. and the driver should communicate with sql server using this TDS protocol. I dont know, may be SP3 would've introduced updates in the TDS protocol.. and the drivers should be able to support it, or new updated versions released.
It can happen in future too... M$ may change their stance anytime.. better be wise in choosing your DB Server and even be more careful while chosing JDBC drivers.

  • DB2 v7.1 JDBC type 4 drivers?

    Hello,
Does any one have a link to IBM DB2 JDBC type 4 drivers? I can't find anything
from IBM site. IBM sites are very confusing to navigate and it is impossible to
    find any using information.
    Thanks,
    Minh Huynh

If you need JDBC2.0 feature, use the one under
    sqllib\java2\db2java.zip
you have to run usejdbc2.bat before you use that driver.
And IBM ships Type2 and Type3 driver(the net driver), Merant ships
Type 4 DB2 driver for IBM. IBM type3 driver doesn't perform good as
    the type2 driver.

COM.ibm.db2.jdbc.net.DB2Driver implements the type 4 driver.

are there any (totally)free jdbc drivers(type 3 or 4) for MsAccess out there?

    are there any (totally)free jdbc drivers(type 3 or 4)
for MsAccess out there? There can't be any type 4. MS Access doesn't work like that.
Basically any proxy driver would seem to be a type 3 - so RmiJdbc is one....

    hi Geoff ,
I would recommend you the aveconnect driver from Atinav. It is a type 3 driver, and is a reliable and nice implementation. We have been using it for quite some time now and our developers here have seen it to be quite efficient and good.
    this url may help you..

  • Oracle.sql.* with JDBC drivers 8.0.5

the oracle.sql package is not included in my JDBC driver file classes111.zip given for oracle data server version 8.0.5.
I would like to use the oracle STRUCT and ARRAY type for calling PL/SQL stored procedures taking STRUCT objects in arguments.
Are the JDBC drivers 8.1.* compatible with the oracle data server 8.0.5 (if I only use the STRUCT or ARRAY types)? Is it a way for passing ARRAY of VARCHAR2 values to PL/SQL stored procedure with the oracle 8.0.5 JDBC driver?
    thanks

Unfortunately, these classes (oracle.sql.STRUCT and oracle.sql.ARRAY) are not compatible to 8.0 database. There is server format changes between 8.1 and 8.0, and JDBC driver only supports the 8.1 format.
Please upgrade your database to 8i.

  • Oracle JDBC Drivers

We are extracting blobs from an 8.05 database. The following statement works only with an older driver for a version I'm not sure whar it is(size is 1419KB, date is 11/3/00 at 9:25AM).
Nothing special in the sql just extracting the column.
    pBlob = (oracle.sql.BLOB)rset.getObject(1);
This works fine with the above mentioned driver. All other drivers I have tested 8.15 for 8i, 8.05, 7.34, 8.04, etc. all give the network datatype unsupported error at this statement. I tried the various examples but they were for the oci8 drivers and did not work with thin.
We use the thin(type 4) driver.
Do the new drivers not support the BLOB type for thin?
Does anyone know which driver version and database that the one I described is from?
    Thanks.

    user452131,
Yes, there are differences between the Oracle 8i JDBC drivers and the Oracle 9i JDBC drivers.
If you haven't already done so, I suggest perusing the following Web page:

  • JDBC Drivers compatability between Oracle and IBM WSAD 5.1.1

I am using a DataAccessObject pattern. I discovered you can speed up your procesing with SELECT statments us using an OraclePreparedStatment and setting defineColumnType; thereby reducing the number of trips the SQL is sent to the database.
    Here is the code:
    ((OraclePreparedStatement)ps).defineColumnType(1, Types.BIGINT);'ps' is a PreparedStatement.
However, at runtime, I am getting a class cast exception for the below reason. I am using WASD version 5.1.1. I was not aware IBM was using any specific classes in the JDBC drivers.
    [2005-05-23 15:36:59,855][Servlet.Engine.Transports : 2][ERROR][{TDAO}{getTWebInfos}{APP0000}{Unknown Contained Application Exception}{External Message:com/ibm/ws/rsadapter/jdbc/WSJdbcPreparedStatement incompatible with oracle/jdbc/OraclePreparedStatement}]

at java.lang.Throwable.(Throwable.java)Could someone please explain this to me? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not an WSAD expert to be honest, but it's quite possible they are using their own wrappers. Check out what calls you can make on their ps wrapper or more likely conn wrapper - they may have some type of getWrappedConnection functionality as other vendor(s) do in which case you can, eg, cast the connection to OracleConnection and go from there.

  • Appropriate JDBC drivers for 7.0 version and SP16

    Hi all
we are using XI 7.0 SP 16.
what type/verion of JDBC drivers should be used for database connectivity?
while i was going through "How to install external JDBC Drivers" it was suggesting to use
    Oracle 9i and Oracle 10g:
    ojdbc14.jar
    u2022 Microsoft SQL Server:
    msbase.jar, mssqlserver.jar, msutil.jar
(in screen shots  as well it was showing he was using msbase.jar, mssqlserver.jar, msutil.jar and ojdbc14.jar)
should we use both ojdbc14.jar and msbase.jar, mssqlserver.jar, msutil.jar or else one of them would be sufficient?
Is OJDBC a type 4 and type 2 driver?
    Full Points are guaranteed
    Regards
    Bhasker

    Hi,
You have to use ojdbc14.jar or classes12.zip/.jar for Oracle and msbase.jar, mssqlserver.jar, msutil.jar for Microsoft SQL Server. Thus both are required to be deployed on J2EE server.
And Oracle JDBC is a type 4 driver.

I did it but here i am wondering becoz my RFC connection SAPSLDAPI works fine
But at transaction SLDCHECK..it throws an error like
    Calling function LCR_LIST_BUSINESS_SYSTEMS
Retrieving data from the SLD server...
Function call returned exception code     4
=> Check whether the SLD is running!
Summary: Connection to SLD does not work
=> Check SLD function and configurations
But the SLD URL pops up and opens wih put any error.in a same fashion,it happens in SXMB_ADM--> integration engine config.it says connections to SLD doesnot work

  • How can I install JDBC drivers for Oracle?!?....

i have a program that has this line:
    import oracle.jdbc.pool.OracleDataSource;
that gives this error when I compile it:
    package oracle.jdbc.pool does not exist
So I think I need to install JDBC drivers for Oracle. (?)
    I went here: [http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/tech/java/sqlj_jdbc/htdocs/jdbc_111060.html]
and downloaded the files for JDBC Thin.
    Then I followed this: [http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/tech/java/sqlj_jdbc/htdocs/111070_readme.html]
by entering these commands (I'm using Ubuntu):
    export CLASSPATH=$CLASSPATH:/path/to/files/ojdbc6.jar
    export CLASSPATH=$CLASSPATH:/path/to/files/orai18n.jar
    export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:/path/to/files
When I type echo $CLASSPATH I can see that those commands worked, but it hasn't made any difference when I try to compile.
I still get the same error. Is it because I didn't do anything about the .so files? The readme page didn't mention them in the installation section.
Please help! I am so stuck...

I don't think you need the shared libraries (.so files) and given what I saw when I glanced at those pages, I don't think they'd even work for you, although maybe I just didn't read enough of it.
    What happens when you type
    javap oracle.jdbc.pool.OracleDataSourceon the command line?
How are you invoking javac? Are you perhaps passing a classpath argument?
Are you sure that the path to the jar files is correct? Are the paths relative?
