U10 hangs at S8 Upgrade

My problem is that I want to upgrade Solaris 7 Desktop to Solaris 8 Server. All runs fine, till it testing the
install profile. This test going to 100% and then nothing happens. I wait 1 hour but nothing change.
I minimize, maximize and move the window, that show me that the webstart is Ok. I don't get a error message or something. It only hangs.
What's the problem?

Solaris 8 has quite a different FileSystem Directory structure from Solaris 7.
So is with Solaris 9 has quite a different Filesystem Directory from Solaris 6.
As far as I could remember, I usually set partition for the root (/) slice just about
500 mb for Solaris 6 and Solaris 7. This is the common practice at that time
where a 5 GB harddisk was considered large. When Solaris 8 and 9 came out,
larger disk became common like the 9/18/36 GB. Also both of these OS needs
more than 1 or 1.5 GB space to be successfully installed. I am pretty sure that your
old OS does not have this much of a space on their root filesystem.
if I were you, it is really better to install anew the latest OS. Also upgrading means
alll thoses patches you had installed in the old OS are all inapplicable to the new OS
so you have another round of a problem. Then your applications...are they compatible to the new OS
if not, your production is down.
Hope this helps.

  • Iphone 5s Hangs randomly after upgrading to IOS 8

I am bit worried about IOS upgrade. I am using Iphone 5s since March 2014. Till date it was working fine. But when I upgraded my Iphone from IOS 7.1.2 to IOS 8 problem starts arriving.
Symptoms :      1. The phone hangs randomly after upgrade.
                            2. After selecting any application , it disappear suddenly. I have to start the application again. This mostly happen when I select Setting icon
This is very much embarrassing that I am using one of the best phone in the world and it hangs automatically when I need it most.
The only resolution for hang phone is to reboot.
I upgraded to latest IOS 8.0.2 but still no improvement. I am expecting Apple team to look into this issue and resolve it. Waiting for your response.

I have 5 Iphone 5's and Ipad Air. All upgraded to ios8. Everyone locks! it is so locked you have to hold home button and power button serial times. It reboots and just shows apple. When you use Safari, or type a text message, they just get behind then lock up with half a screen or half the icons.
All my kids hate their devices now. I know Apple will fix. It is scary as i have never seen iPhones actually lock up and un-usable. this should have been caught in Beta. Perhaps Apple should get some "Real" outside normal users to beta. The ones they are using are not catching this stuff. Code is complicated, Apple has the best minds, Just keep holding the Home button and power button. Eventually it will reboot. Then close all the open apps. and don't tilt the phone sideways.
Also close all un-used webpages left open in safari. this seems to fix.
As for the Bug about lagging while texting and half screen lock ups. that needs to be fixed ASAP.
I know from building things, there is always a few hiccups. Yelling won't do anything, give Apple a chance to fix it. I love Apple, and will continue to purchase the items. The world economy is changing, suppliers are going green, thus you get cheap bendable parts too. Apple will find the middle ground and work the problem. Please all post they read these blogs.
If Apple deletes your posts and denies these problems then email Tim Cook. He does listen. Give it a week then it will all be sorted out. If apple sold iPhone 6 pluses that bend, then i am sure they will offer a replacement. Apple does care, May seem arrogant but they always come through at the end.
Hang in there, i always rush and put the update on the minute it comes out, over and over, then complain about the bugs. Better to wait a month. i am addicted to new and better and just click upgrade. My fault too. I know better after 37 years with apple.
    Kind Regards,
    B

  • Ipad hangs frequently after upgrade to os 4

ipad hangs frequently after upgrade to os 4. any ideas?

For Safari try clearing its cache : Settings > Safari > Clear Cache (and Clear History)
For Safari and other apps try closing all 'open'/recently used apps completely and then see if they work ok after you re-open them : from the home screen (i.e. not with any app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of each app to close them, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
A third option is a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • Windows hangs boot after upgrading any software

    Hi,
My Windows 8 Pro x64 Dell XPS8500 machine developed a really weird problem.  (The problem actually began a while back - first noticed maybe 4-6 month ago - but only now trying to fix it.)  It re/boots fine so long as I don't try to install anything.
However, installing any software upgrades causes Windows to hang on boot.  The software upgrades that I tried are Evernote, iTunes, Java VM, and all of them are triggering the same behavior.  All this aforementioned software seeming doesn't have
anything in common.  The only known upgrades that do not appear to trigger the issue are Firefox and Chrome (where upgrades happen more or less in passive fashion)  There is no clear event that I can recall in the past that I can attribute this happening
to (i.e. I can't pin point to something like installing a driving and it failing immediately afterwards) - just one day a message popped up to upgrade iTunes, which I did, and then rebooted to experience the issue.
Here are the steps to describe what happens with a bit more detail and troubleshooting steps tried:
Manually launch upgrade of an existing software. (Tried Evernote, iTunes, Java VM)
Successfully go through the install/upgrade.  Seems irrelevant if software asks for reboot or not.  Machine works fine until rebooted.
Reboot the machine.  Machine shuts down without any issues.
BIOS POST is successful, and Dell logo with jumping/circulating dots comes up.
There is a normal flurry of hard-disk activity for a few seconds, which after a few seconds reduces to none or sometimes/occasionally to very brief flashing a few seconds apart.  This is where the problem is noticed.  It can stay like that for
hours if not days (normal boot takes about 20-30 seconds).
Typically, if there is no hard-disk activity at all, pressing the power button causes one brief flash, followed by one more about 1-3 seconds later, and no change.
The only recourse is to force turn off by holding power button for few seconds.
Letting it try to boot again leads to the same behavior.
Repeating attempts to boot 3-4 times causes Automatic Recovery to kick in.
The only way to get the machine to boot again is to use Recovery to restore to a previous state.  This sometimes requires to be done more than once and doesn't fix on the first try.
(Also, I enabled Win boot menu, and couple of times instead of waiting for Automatic Recovery to kick in, tried to use recovery through the menu - in that case it's more likely to require the procedure to be done more than once).
I tried to do a logged boot to capture log file in one of the cases where it boots - it appears to never produce \Windows\ntbtlog.txt file (possible I didn't do something right for this one, though I thought that file is never deleted and only grows)
Additional Info:  SysRestore currently displays only two available points:
    6/13/14 - Installed Evernote v. 5.4 - Type Install
6/9/14 - Automatic Restore Point - Type System
All other previous restore points (from having installed a few more updates and software in the 1.5 years I had the machine) are gone somewhere.
Choosing to revert to the second restore point (when selecting restore point from boot menu) as opposed to the first one and later booting successfully, for some reason the same restore points are listed again (so it doesn't seem to be truly reverting)
Nothing fruitful appears in the EventLog.  The only critical messages that i see there are both from SCM and one reads "The Dell Digital Delivery Service service terminated unexpectedly.  It has done this 1 time(s)." and the other "The
system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly." (which is expected).  And there is a warn level entry about some Bluetooth device not being
able to enter power save mode.  That's it for system event logs.
At this point I'm totally stuck trying to figure this one out, or even trying to figure out how to obtain information on where it gets stuck.  This is worse than having a BSOD as with BSOD at least there is some info on what's happening.  Here
I don't even see where it gets stuck or what's preventing from booting successfully.
    Please help!!!

Here is the link to the SrtTrail.txt file:
    http://1drv.ms/1sh7rCy
Again, let me clarify the situation as well as provide some additional information that I discovered since original post.  Per original post - I can boot into the system up and  until installer gets activated either by trying to uninstall or upgrade
existing software or install new one.  At the time, the only way I could get the system to boot again was to let it fail boot twice and on the third attempt let it perform system restore from a restore point, and then it would boot again (with all the
    installed/updated/uninstall changes wiped out)
Since then I discovered the following additional behavior points:
I managed to get it to accept couple of software upgrades by using roughly the following steps: let it fail boot twice.  On the third attempt instead of choosing system restore I instead cancel or choose advanced options (depending on what it offers).
Typically it goes either through some system analysis or disk check for errors - wait and it doesn't find anything.  When presented with a menu of other recovery options (like changing UEFI, command prompt, etc), I simply choose to exit and continue loading
windows.  At this point it sometimes (I'd say 1 out of 3 times) manages to boot successfully, retaining all the changes (i.e. retaining software updates and the like).  If it doesn't succeed booting, repeat until it does.  Using these steps
I managed to update most of software so far, including windows update.  But each time it's a struggle to get it to boot again.
Simply rebooting the system without any changes succeeds most of the time.  However, today I noticed that a plain reboot (without any installer/uninstaller/update or any other system/soft/config changes) doesn't always succeed, requiring the same process
as in previous bullet point to get it to boot again.
I also noticed an additional behavior - my keyboard an mouse have some buttons that are illuminated (on dell keyboard those are media buttons, and on the dell mouse it is mouse sensitivity indicator). I noticed that when windows boot up, the keyboard and
mouse lights go out simultaneously.  If they come back about a second or two later (with one flicker in between), then system boots up fine (the moment they come back, the system displays the logon screen with the seatle space needle).  However,
if they don't come back, then the boot will hang there for ever.  Is it possible that some driver sometimes succeeds to be loaded correctly, and sometimes fails to load causing Windows to perpetually wait for that driver to finish loading (which it never
does)?  If that sounds like a possibility, how can I find out what is it that windows is doing when it starts to perpetually wait for whatever it is waiting for?  Tell me what logs would help to understand that and how to capture those!
Also note that I run Avira Antivir antivirus (ever since I got this PC), and it doesn't flag anything suspicious on the system.  I also ran MalwareBytes scan which found no suspects, as well as GMER rootkit scanner (which as far as i can tell, also
    did not find anything suspicious).
There is another oddity that is going on with the system - may or may not be related, so mentioning just in case it is - which is that I'm using Dropbox, and it keeps creating "My Videos" folder on the Desktop, even though it is way outside of my dropbox
root.  Deleting the folder doesn't help as the moment I right-click on the Desktop, it re-appears.  It, oddly enough, also appears in C:\Users\{profile} folder right along side real "My Videos" folder.  Looking properties of both in explore
shows in the property pages that one is located in C:\Users\{profile} and another in C:\Users\{profile}\Desktop (and again, yet both of those explore shows in C:\Users\{profile}).  Like I said, not sure if these are related (I suspect not, but who knows),
    so mentioning just in case.
Note that I'm trying to fix it without going through refresh or reset since the first one would cause the pain to reinstall of all the software on the system (without any indication that this would solve the issue), and the later option would just completely
wipe out everything off of the system, which is even more painful, and again would not guarantee solution (e.g. if it is a bad driver that would get reinstalled anyway after wipe. Yes, I technically do have backups, but those are more for drastic case if my
harddrive crashes, and wouldn't want to rely on those to voluntarily wipe the system due to odd behaviors - too painful and time-consuming.  I'm looking for a solution to problem rather than just-start-from-the-beginning-because-it-is-easier approach.
Thanks, let me know how to get the troubleshooting info to get to root cause.

  • My imac hangs up after upgrading to new os

After upgrading to new OS my imac hangs up where it never has done this before. My apple care has long sinse expired and I am really bummed. It was clearly related to the new OS. Any suggestions for relief?

  • Hang on mavericks upgrade

tried to upgrade to mavericks last night.  I had a 70-80 minute hang on the 'time remaining= less than a minute' screen.  when I shut it down and rebooted, it started with the new install screen, I'd get to the screen where it clearly wasn't recognising me (wanted me to replace or change my name) and would recycle back to the nations screen again.  before I got to the screen hang, it had not accepted my admin password> I had proceeded with a blank password field.
I recovered the Mac successfully from the time machine backup I ran the night before, but I'm wondering if I missed something?  another possible variable is that I do have Parallels 9 on the Mac with Windows 7 installed (need Windows for school last year).
    Has anyone had this issue?
    Jim

As mentioned by others, sometimes while sharing my screen on my MBP running Mavericks, I'm suddenly logged out -- not logged out of Skype, logged out of OSX entirely. In other words, when I log back in, the only applications running are those set to "Open at Login"... so it's a true logout, you know, like a full reboot without the wait.
But (again, as others are experiencing) sometimes instead of just logging me out, it locks up the whole screen except for the mouse... and audio, oddly enough -- I can still talk to the other call participant(s) until they hang up -- but I can't do anything else until I hold the power button for 5 seconds to completely kill OSX.
For what it's worth, the latter behavior also occasionally occurs in GoToMeeting, which makes me wonder whether some portion of the OSX API you're both using suddenly became disastrously buggy in Mavericks; I know you guys don't like talking to Apple any more than you absolutely have to, but in this one instance it might be more efficient to just ask them, since you know what your code is really doing, whereas we just know how your code is inconveniencing us. Just a thought...

  • Fast User Switching Hangs Computer Following Upgrade from Panther to Tiger

Upgraded my computer (G3 B&W) to Tiger from Panther, and now Fast User Switching doesn't work. Have a family of 5 that shares this computer. Each new user can log in, but when you try to switch back to an open account, the computer hangs. It worked fine in Panther. May be just due to the fact that this is an older Mac - if so, my second question is whether there's a good way to get back to Panther? It worked great on this Mac, and Tiger is noticeably slower. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated - Thanks!

    Thanks for the link, baltwo!
This got me some good info on how mail messages are stored in Tiger, but unfortunately, I still can't find the missing messages, which were in the inbox in 10.3, but didn't show up following the 10,4 upgrade. I found the inbox folder, and it only seems to have the current files, can't track down any evidence of the missing files.
Thanks again for the reply - very much appreciated.

  • IPhoto migration hangs, can't upgrade Library

I saw a couple similar posts on this, but the solutions given aren't working. We have copied over the Library contents intact from old iMac to new one (via Firewire). Launching iPhoto gives message about "must upgrade, may take a few minutes..." That process starts, cooks fine for 4-5 minutes, status bar progressing OK, then hangs with 10 or 11 minutes remaining. No change for hours, must force quit to get out. I've tried this with Activity monitor running and the CPU drops to nothing at the stuck point. brain-dead.
Tried option-launch to specify library location, no help. Tried copying iPhoto Library to desktop, then specifying library location, no help. I'm not seeing all the steps that TD suggested for another user with same problem, (the move to desktop solution), so can't replicate further. Please help! Thanks!

Given that the upgrade stops at the same point it suggests there’s something in the Library that is causing the problem.
Try Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    Regards
    TD

  • Why does my iPhone 4 keep hanging after the upgrade to iOS 6?

My phone will hang when i launch the twitter app sometimes. After approx of 3-5 minutes of freeze screen, the apple logo appears. After about 1 minute of apple logo on the screen, the phone resumes its normal function.

Sounds like something got corrupted during your upgrade.
I would restore from a last known good backup if I were you.
If that doesn't work I would set the phone up as new and re-install all of your apps and re-sync your music again.

  • Imac hanging during Lion upgrade

I have a 2010 27" imac.  As of last night, it had Snow Leopard on it (as it was shipped with).
I tried upgrading last night with the Lion purchased from the App store.
The system now appears hanging with "approximately 21 minutes left" on the screen.  The mouse works.  The screen dims after X minutes, and will wake up with mouse movement.  No keyboard inputs seem to work.
It has now been 12 hours stuck at the same point.
What's next?  Power cycle?  Hope for the best?  I have plenty of backups, but I'm surprised that a newer system is having this problem but I can't seem to find others who also had it.

I did do the above as I read that may work too, I also made it so the HD never sleeps.  Did not help for me, computer still freezes when switching accounts, not all the time, on average every other day I need to do a hard restart.

  • Finder Functions Hanging After Mavericks Upgrade

iMac has been hanging when executing finder functions. E.G. saving from web, saving to different location other than application/system default, printing/saving as pdf, or attaching files to webmail/mail/outlook/webpages. Performance was great, pretty much flawless and started after Mavericks upgrade. Have done everything suggested from Apple support or 3rd party forums. Repaired permissions, cleared cache, cleared pram, turned off log-in items not needed, restored OS, etc., nothing has worked. I am ready to reformat and start from scratch. Anyone have the same experience and found a solution?

Might be corrupted Finder preferences ...
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist
Click Go then move the com.apple.finder.plist file to the Trash.
    Restart your Mac.
If that didn't help, check the startup disk for errors.
Launch Disk Utility located in HD > Applications > Utilities
Select the startup disk on the left then select the First Aid tab.
Click:  Verify Disk  (not Verify Disk Permissions)
If DU reports errors, restart your Mac while holding down the Command + R keys. From there you can access the built-in utilities to repair the disk using OS X Recovery

  • Mail hangs after Mavericks upgrade

After upgrading from OS 10.7 to 10.9, when I start Mail it hangs with the beachball and the message "Upgrading your Mail database. This may take a few minutes."
So far, it's taking infinite minutes.

Contacted Apple support. The tech had me go into my Applications folder, select Mail, and Open. It worked! Only difference was I had been trying to open the program by clicking its Dock icon.
Why should this make a difference? Beats me.
He also suggested booting in Safe Mode (hold Shift while restarting), which he claimed "fixes bugs". I will do that but it seems the problem of being unable to get past the "Upgrading Mail database" phase is solved.
