UCS "Protect configuration" feature

I have created a Service Profile with the Local Disk Configuration Policy set to the default value. All went ok until I wanted to associate a different profile, now with RAID1 as the policy for the local disks. Here I got a misconfiguration error. Apparently, the default disk policy has the Protect Configuration activated by default and only Any Configuration mode is now accepted.
On the Cisco documentation it says the following about the Protect Configuration setting:
If
checked, the server retains the configuration in the local disk
configuration policy even if the server is disassociated from the
service profile. This property is checked by default. When
a service profile is disassociated from a server and a new service
profile associated, the setting for the Protect Configuration property
in the new service profile takes precedence and overwrites the setting
in the previous service profile.
Note
If
you disassociate the server from a service profile with this option
enabled and then associate it with a new service profile that includes
a local disk configuration policy with different properties, the server
returns a configuration mismatch error and the association fails.
So, from what I understand just create a new service profile with a Local Disk Policy that has the same Mode (Any Configuration in this case) but with the Protect Configuration not activated, and on associating it the new setting for Protect Configuration will be overwritten.
I've tried this, but it doesn't work. The new profile gets associated with the new created LocalDisk Configuration Policy but the setting for Protect Configuration does not get overwritten.
Do you have any suggestions?
P.S. The firmware version is 1.3(1n)

What were the steps you did?
Here is what I tried:
- Reassigned to the blade a service profile with the default Local Disk Configuration Policy and with the Protected Configuration activated (as was on the first profile assigned to the blade)
- After assignment I've modified the default Local Disk Configuration Policy by deactivating the Protected Configuration setting.
- Dissociated the service profile
- Associated a new service profile that had a new Local Disk Configuration Policy with Protected Configuration not activated and the Mode the same as the default policy.
Although in the service profile it shows the Protected Configuration as not activated, in the blade inventory I still see it activated.
Did you do it in a different way?
Or do you have any other suggestions?

  • After "Configure Feature", "Changed By" field shows my name for most of work items

I recently upgraded TFS from 2010 to 2012. And I am running "Configure Feature" for every project. The configuration ran successfully. However, when I run a query, the "Changed By" field shows my name for most of work items. I thought
configuration should never touch the data. More interesting, I go to history of work items, there is no change by me at all. Now why did history and query show totally different data?
    Thanks.

    Hi Jason,
You can create a new work item to have a check if the same issue occurrs. To configure features, you can refer to the links below to see if you configured correctly:
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff432837(v=vs.110).aspx
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/visualstudioalm/archive/2012/05/09/how-to-configure-features-for-dozens-of-team-projects.aspx
Please elaborate more details about the configuration feature steps if the issue persists. You can also run TFS best practice analyzer to see if there configuration issues.

  • RAID 1 is not showing in UCS Server configuration utility

    Hi,
I have a UCS Server C200 M2 Rack Mount and planning to install Windows 2008 R2 server in it. To make it High Available, i m configuring RAID 1 in it.
I can easily configure RAID from BIOS setup and after rebooting it shows me that the RAID 1 is found and Online in status.
Once I insert the Cisco UCS Server Configuration Utility 2.0 CD and try to check the RAID Configuration, it show me error message "SCU is unable to detect a RAID controller in the server"
If I move further to install OS then during installation setup gets hang and system reboots.
I attached the screen shot for review and help.
    Kindly advise!
    Thanks,
    Aman

    Hi Aman,
Can you download the Driver package from
    http://www.cisco.com/cisco/software/release.html?mdfid=283860950&flowid=25801&softwareid=283291009&os=Windows%202008%20R2%20(x64)&release=1.3(1.1)&relind=AVAILABLE&rellifecycle=&reltype=latest
And extract w2k8r2_intich10r_13.21.0614.2010.zip for the Intel ICH10R integrated RAID controller.
Try Browsing to this Driver either from the SCU or during the direct OS reinstall and make sure
"Hide drivers that are not compatible with hardware on this computer" is unchecked to be able to point to the Driver
I assume you are seeing the problem as described in the RAID configuration issues in
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/unified_computing/ucs/c/ts/guide/TS_2Server.html
Installing   Windows 2008 64-bit and RAID controller had issues.
LSI   drivers are not bundled in Windows 2008 64-bit. These must be installed   during the installation process. During the install process, if the hard   drives fail to be detected, use the load driver option to point the drives to   the correct drivers for the LSI controller in the system. The drivers can be   loaded using a USB drive. When loaded, the hard drives are displayed and the   hard drive for the OS can be selected.
Please let me know how the installation goes.

  • Can't Password Protect Configuration Menu

    hi
i recently reset my base station and reconfigured everything
i can access the net fine and have no problems
i created a hidden network and now want to password protect my base station settings in the admin utility since i live in an apartment complex and i can see my neighbors base stations in my menu - i've opened the configure file and changed the password numerous times, yet every time i go to check the configure file, it never asks me for a password - it used to prompt me for a password before i reset it and i am not sure why it won't take a password now
    any ideas?
    thanks

iBook G4 15"   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   no problem accessing net
iBook G4 15"   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   no trouble otheer than this

Probably because you checked the box to enable the Mac to remember the password.
Applications > Utilities > Keychain Access
Delete the relevant entry for the Admin Utility and the next time you try and configure the base station you will be asked for a password.
Also be aware a hidden network with no wireless network password (not the same as the base station configuration password) should not be considered a secure network and I would recommend that you use WPA.

  • UCS Server Configuration Utility stuck Initializing Kernel

    Hello,
After upgrading to the 2.1(1a) firmware, I noticed that two of my 8 blades want to boot into this new Configuration Utility after the service profile has been applied. The software just sits at Initializing Kernel forever.
Does anyone know what causes this? Or why it is only happening on 2 of the 8 blades (which all have the same service profile)?
I have attached a screen shot.
    Thanks in advance,
         -Steve

    Steve,
If you not mapping an ISO and you are still seeing the Server Configuration Utility, would you do me a favor?
    1) In KVM, reboot and select F2 and screen capture the Boot Order. I'm curious if SD or USB is in the boot order
    2) Remove the blade from the chassis and look for SD-flash cards inserted into the side of the blade. There are two SD slots towards the front of the blade in the side.
    3) Open the blade and look for a USB stick inserted between the HDD's
With release code, the SD flash is disabled and should not be visible as a boot device. The SD cards provided for the rack C-series do have bootable images (Server Configuration Utility) is one of the bootable images.
If you have a USB stick inserted, the blade may default boot off of it. If SCU is on the UCS stick, that may be why you are seeing it.
If you find both SD and USB, would you mind removing them one at a time and let them boot up and report the results? (i.e. SD card only one test amd USB stick only one test)
Please let me know the results of your investigation.
    Thanks,
    Dave

  • UCS RAID Configuration on UCS C240 M3 TRC2 for UC Applications

    Hi
This UCS server has Twelve 300 GB hard disk. The RAID configuration recommended in Cisco Documentation is to have 2 RAID 5  Volumes 1.36 TB each.
I don't understand this configuration for the following reasons :
I prefer to dedicate a RAID Volume to ESXi and the second RAID Volume for UC Application.
For  UCS C240 M3 TRC3 the First RAID volume should be  a small size (for Example 300 GB with RAID1 ) and the second one about 2 TB with RAID 5
    Why ?
Because in case of problem with ESXi, I can reinstall ESXi, and to recover all My UC applications after ESXi reinstallation.
This kind of configuration was the one use by old C210 M2 (Small RAID 1 volume for ESXi and Larger RAID 5 Volume for UC Applications)
The problem is that with two 1.36 TB Volume , I can install ESXi on the first RAID Volume and UC on second RAID volume. But there is a big waste of Disk Space (about 1 TB )!!!
The problem of changing this RAID recommended Configuration is that TAC consider that we are no longer running on TRC design, so the support is able to be rejected.
Is anybody from Cisco able to explain me the reasons for such RAID Design for UCS C240 M3 TRC2 for UC Applications
    Thanks

You need to go thru your AM, or ask in a partner forum this question, this cannot be addressed at CSC.
And we didn't tell you support would be rejected, we told you that support would fall from a guaranteed performance UC on UCS TRC, to that of a UC on UCS spec based, as changing the RAID would be guidance-only.

  • UCS FC switch features

I would like to know, if UCS is in FC switch mode, connecting E-port to a upstream MDS switch; does the UCS FC switch support
    - all zoning and zoneset activation has to be done on the MDS, and is pushed down to UCS ? correct ?
    - enhanced zoning (per VSAN) supported
    - device alias supported (per fabric)
    - fc alias (per VSAN) supported ?

Sorry, but here is the answer to my own questions, verified in the lab, and crosschecked with Cisco Engineering.
    1) YES, UCS supports FC switch mode
    2) NO, UCS only supports basic zoning (see attachment); and there is no roadmap to change this. Therefore if your MDS fabric has configured enhanced zoning, the trunk between UCS and MDS will not come up.
    3) Static domain id's cannot be configured on the UCS FC switch
    4) device-alias db propagation from MDS to UCS works ok

  • Does ucs 6296 have autosensing feature for FC ports?

    Hi, everyone
I was wondering, does UCS 6200 series fabric interconnect have autosensing /auto negotiation feature for Fiber Channel ports? I have ucs 6296 with 8Gb FC sfp ports and storage that has 4Gb FC ports. I'am consering that my storage won't connect to fabric interconnect.

Yes, 8G SFP should work with 4G peer.
If you want directly connect your storage to UCS 6200, you have to configure FC switch mode on the fabric interconnect (default is FC end host mode = NPV)
Cisco UCS Manager-based Fibre Channel zoning—This configuration combines direct attach storage with local zoning. Fibre Channel or FCoE storage is directly connected to the fabric interconnects and zoning is performed in Cisco UCS Manager, using Cisco UCS local zoning. Any existing Fibre Channel or FCoE uplink connections need to be disabled. Cisco UCS does not currently support active Fibre Channel or FCoE uplink connections coexisting with the utilization of the UCS Local Zoning feature.

  • How to make 32-bit-only add-ons work with Windows 7, Internet Explorer 11 and Enhanced Protected Mode enabled?

    Hi everybody,
in IE10 I had the chance to use 32-bit-tabs even with EPM. In IE11 my 32-bit add-ons are all marked as "incompatible".
    Do you have any suggestions?
    Regards, Don

    Hi Don,
The ”Enhanced Protected Mode ” feature of  Internet Explorer 11 in Windows 7 has been simplified and it doesn`t provide the “Enable 64-bit processes for Enhanced Protected Mode” feature. The Enhanced Protected  Mode is based on the 64 bit process.
So that may be the reason.
Here is a link for reference of Enhanced Protected Mode :

  • Failback after "Protected Network" failover in Hyper-V

    Hi everyone
I have a two node hyper-v cluster on Windows Server 2012 R2. I use "Protected Network" feature combined with LACP teaming at the Hyper-V level. Protected Network works fine, it meens when network connection of
a particular VM is broken, the Live Migration begins and VM starts working on a second node.
The problem is with a failback action. In the VM properties I have set the preferred owner and I allowed failback immediately. After loosing a network connection Protected Network feature migrates the VM to a second node (not preferred).
But after the connection is reliable again on the first node, the failback does not happen. When I for example restart a Cluster Service on the first node, then all VMs are migrated to a preferred nodes. Failback also works fine after restarting
one of the nodes. It does not work only after Protected Network failover.
Do you think failback is possible with Protected Network feature?

    Hi Konrad,
First , my apology for the delay .
I built the cluster for this test and I configured a HA VM to allow failback immediately and preferred owner but it only applied to node failover .
(I unplugged the cable to trigger failover for that VM but it didn't failback after I plugged the cable back )
    Best Regards

  • Possible to setup something likes "protected port" on WLC 5508

    Hello,
    Let's say I have 3 APs, all connected to a WLC 5508
Each AP has a computer that is connected to it, Computer A, B and C, all on the same Vlan with same SSID
Is it possible to configure so
A and B can not talk to each other but both can talk to C  ?
Something like "protected port" feature in the switch world.
    Thanks

Im looking for a solution for a WiFi network for our guests, where they dont need to talk to each other, and all need to talk to a wire internet gateway/router only.
If you want to block guest SSID users from talking to each other then it's possible.  As Scott has pointed out, it's called "P2P Blocking Action".
I do NOT recommend having guest and corporate share the same SSID.  I don't think it's best practice.

  • UCS Central - Cluster Setup Bug

    Hi,
just tried to setup a ha cluster on esx 5.x and datacore fc storage. The setup wizard doesn't parse correctly the vendor and/or product string on the rdm!
Therefore no shared disk will be found and the ha setup doesn't work.
Vendor string contains eight character "datacore" and product named "virtual disk". Seems legit.
If i change the vdisk inquiry string to somethings else like vendor "foo" and product "bar" the ha setup wizard finds the shared volume.
This workaround isn't acceptable because the inquiry strings are configured on the psp and nmp rules.
Please fix this tremedously failure on the setup wizard.

I think it has to do with the fact, that local pools in UCS manager can be configured to use sequential allocation.  For global pools in UCS Central, this feature is not (yet) available; therefore the allocation looks random.
UCS Central 1.2 (coming out next week !) will only allow sequential ID allocation
