UI Browser and column width

I am trying to get UI Browser help me set the width of a column, normally done by double clicking at the bottom of the scroll bar where the 2 hash marks are.
Here is what I have tried so far but to no avail. Even Bill Cheeseman wrote me back and couldnt get it to work. I though maybe you have to enable either the scroll area first , or the grow area, any ideas how to script the width of a column of a Finder window.
activate application "Finder"
tell application "System Events"
tell process "Finder"
select scroll area 1 of scroll area 1 of browser 1 of splitter group 1 of window "Documents"
set enabled of scroll area 1 of scroll area 1 of browser 1 of splitter group 1 of window "Documents" to true
tell grow area 1 of scroll area 1 of scroll area 1 of browser 1 of splitter group 1 of window 1
click
delay 0.01
click
end tell
end tell
end tell

I think the problem may be related to the double-click speed when using System Events, so you might try another way to click at the screen location. Cliclick is a handy little utility that can double-click at an arbitrary screen location - it seems to work OK with the following script (you will need to change the (POSIX) path to wherever you put the shell script):
<pre style="
font-family: Monaco, 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;
font-size: 10px;
margin: 0px;
padding: 5px;
border: 1px solid #000000;
width: 720px;
color: #000000;
background-color: #FFEE80;
overflow: auto;"
title="this text can be pasted into the Script Editor">
tell application "Finder"
try
if current view of window 1 is not column view then error
on error
return
end try
activate
tell application "System Events" to tell application process "Finder"
try -- get the last column resizer
get position of grow area 1 of last scroll area of scroll area 1 of browser 1 of splitter group 1 of window 1
on error -- oops, only one column
get position of grow area 1 of scroll area 1 of scroll area 1 of browser 1 of splitter group 1 of window 1
end try
tell the result to set {X, Y} to {(item 1) + 7, (item 2) + 7} -- center in the grow area
do shell script "/the/path/to/cliclick d" & X & space & Y
end tell
end tell
</pre>

  • Question about the Cluster and Column width in Graphs in Illustrator CS2

    How do they relate to each other? How do the Percentages work together? Is there any information about how you can mathematically figure how much area each Cluster width takes. If you make a graph and make both the cluster and column widths 100%, the entire area is filled. If you make the Column width 50% the bar will sit exactly in the center of the Cluster width, but if you make the cluster width 75%, the bars move closer together.

    Gregg,
    The set of bars that represent each row of data in the graph spreadsheet is called a "cluster".
    Let's let
       W = the width of the whole area inside the graph axes
       R = the number of rows of data
       C = the number of columns of data
    Then the maximum potential space to use for each row of data is W/R. The cluster width controls how much of this potential space is assigned to each row. This cluster space is then divided by C, giving the maximum potential width of each bar. The maximum potential width for each bar is then multiplied by the column width percentage to get the actual width of each bar.
    So the actual width of each bar is ((W/R)*Cluster width)/C)*Column width
    The graphs illustrated below have three rows of data, with two columns each. The solid colored areas in the background have the same cluster width as the main graph, but they all have a column width of 100%. This lets you see more easily how the gradient bars that have a column width of 80% are using up 80% of their potential width.
    Notice that as the Cluster percentage gets lower, the group of bars that represent a row of data get farther apart, so that you can more easily see the "clumping" of rows. When the Cluster percentage is 100%, the columns within each row are no closer to each other than they are to the columns in other rows.
    As the Column percentage gets lower, the bars for each data value occupy less of the space within their row's cluster, so that spaces appear between every bar, even in the same row.

  • Report Row Height and Column Width

    Hi,
    I have a cell in a report (a description column) that causes the row height to become very large (when there is a lot of text in the description). I can make the column wider on the report attributes page, but there doesn't seem to be any place to influence the maximum height of a row on a report, short of modifying the template.
    Adding style attributes (e.g. max-height:30px) to an element only affects the <span> that the element resides in, not the table cell or row.
    Displaying the column as a text area is a useful workaround. The downside is the border and scroll bars do waste a lot of screen real estate. Does there exist some other way of setting a limit on the height and/or width of a report, report column or report row?
    Oh, and another question- how do make line breaks in this forum? There's no support for <BR> or [br].

    Please reply to this thread, my customer is facing the same issue. He does not have issue with the excel and the pdf output but in the rtf output the table heght increases to accomadate the data.He want it to bevave in the same way as the pdf do.

  • Hide Query filter values and column width default

    Hello Everyone,
    In our query definition we have default filter(restriction) values.  When query is output it shows these filtered(restricted) values.
    Is there anyway to hide these?  We dont' want users seeing this.
    Also, the column width defaults to the largest output in the column (Excel standard).  Is there anyway to override this?  I tried in a workbook to set the column width to a certain width, but the query did not read this?
    Thanks so much,
    Colleen

    Hi Colleen,
    To set column widths, use the BW Properties dialog.  In Excel, select any cell that is part of query definition, right-click ... you should now see a context-specific dialog.  The last option in the dialog is always Properties.  Go to the Column width tab and pick from there.
    For the filter values ... you should be able to delete these cells and they should not re-appear (unless someone goes to the BW toolbar and selects Layout >> Display text elements).
    Hope this helps.

    Hi Experts
    We're facing some strange behavior: The width of each column in our List GUIBB is always full browser width. From our point of view the corresponding feeder class works fine, the GET_DEFINITION method provides a field catalog and corresponding field descriptions.

  • Column Widths of existing Report

    Hi, I'm wondering how you can modify the width of a particular column in a report. One of the columns has a lot of information, and I want this column to take up about half the page. I look in the Application Builder to see the properties of that column, but don't see anywhere to set the width.
    Also is there a way to get a record to display over 2 rows, so that it doesn't scroll off the screen?
    Thanks in advance, Sarah

    as i explained briefly in How to change column width and other attributes , report templates are the best way to control the look/feel of our outputted result sets. more specifically, that's probably the best place to specify attributes such as wrapping and column widths. when doing this type of html formatting, though, you also need to be aware of the rest of the html that's on your page. so if a column in your report is set to be 500px wide but the region template for your report region stores its content in a table with a fixed width of 200px, i'm pretty sure the second setting overrides the first. i'd approach it this way: set up your report template to do what you want (wrap some rows and maybe fix some column widths). then see if your page renders correctly. if it doesn't do what you want, check the region template to see if that's interfering. if that's not it, then check the page template. there's a pretty good chance that just changing your report template will do the trick, but it helps to be aware of the html around it.
    hope this helps,
    raj

  • I want to adjust the column width of "From", "Subject" and "Date". in the AT&T email within Firefox browser

    My computer runs under Windows Vista Home Premium, and Firefox browser 3.6.13. Within the Firefox browser, it shows an AT&T email window (www.sbc.yahoo.com). There are several columns such as subject, date, etc. I was able to adjust such column width before. Now I cannot do it. (Also I can adjust column width if I run in the Internet Explorer. I have another computer running Window 7 professional, same set up with Fire Fox and AT&T email, I am able to adjust the column width so I can show the full subject line.

    Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    See:

    You can also try to set the pref layout.frames.force_resizability to true on the about:config page.

  • Prob with fixed column widths and word wrapping in viewer

    i have a report where each record has a very long paragraph of text in it.
    In desktop and plus, the text column is at a fixed width and the text just wraps nicely according to the column width.
    But in Viewer, the column widths do not stay fixed, the text does not wrap, and the long text is displayed in a single line that completely stretches the column width off the page and requires a horizontal scroll bar.
    is there anyway to fix the column width in viewer, have the text naturally wrap, and prevent the column stretching. All word wrapping settings are on, but seem to have no effect. I can't seem to find any solution to this.
    Thanks...

    Hi Pritam,
    Per my understanding that you can't see the vertical scrollbar of the ReportViewer controls 2012 to scroll for the grid rows, but can see the vertical scrollbar of the web application, you also can't fix the headers while scrolling, right?
    I have tested on my local environment and can't reproduce your issue, but you have an alternative way to add some css  to the web form's source code to display the vertical scrollbar.
    Details information below for your reference:
    Please check below properties setting of the reportviewer which control the visibility of the scrollbar:
    AsyncRendering="true"
    SizeToReportContent="false"
    Please check if this problem also occur on other version of IE and other type of browser.
    Please check if you have done correct setting of the Fix data to freeze the table header as the step of below:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb934257(v=sql.100).aspx
    If step1 doesn't work, please click the source of webform.aspx and add below CSS to add the vertical scrollbar manually:
    #ReportViewer1 {
              overflow-y: scroll;
    Run the application you will see it display as below:

  • A Fluid Gallery from MySQL using PHP and various column widths

    I have decided to try the new Fluid Layout option in Dreamweaver. I pull information from a database (MySQL) and use php to present it.
    To show a gallery, I would pull the info and use the repeater code, and something like Tom Muck's horizontal repeater script to create a gallery. The images need to be shown with other text-based information (not just a caption). However, the HR script is a set amount of columns - and I want the number of columns to change depending on the width of the browser.
    So it's more than just a gallery - pulling images from a database with Title = "x" these would be a repeated stylised DIV with multiple texts fields and styles within.
    Let's take the example of a car dealership website it must show the car image, year, prices, description etc all in different style fonts so it can just be a caption to the image.
    So the options are:
    A fixed number of columns for each width: Monitor 5, Tablet 3, Mobile 1. Can this be achieved by having a "IF" statement in the actual code, if width = x use this version of the Horizontal Repeater?
    A fluid version that has 6 columns and as you slide the browser's width you can see the gallery's width has less columns until it reaches 1 for mobile.
    The fluid version would be better.
    Any links to a tutorial or example would be most appreciated.
    Many thanks
    HVR

    The only issue with using <divs> instead of a table to create your grid columns is that you will have to set a minimum height on the <divs> to keep them all at the same depth,much like a table cell construction looks and behaves. If you don't set a minimum height the grid will look all ragged PLUS the very big drawback is the <divs> won't clear if another <div> has more content in it which is going to happen if you include a 'description' of the car as this will never be the same length unless you are prepeared to edit the text.
    See fluid sample below: You can just populate the <divs> from your database and loop through them
    <!DOCTYPE HTML>

  • Is it possible to have a fixed column width and a URL link?

    I am trying to achieve having a popup link on a column within a SQL report but also have the report column a certain width. I can have either or however not at the same time.
    What I did was created a SQL report, edited a column and gave it a URL redirect (page in application) as normal.
    For the fixed column width, I used:
    <div style="width:250px; height:54px; overflow:hidden" title="#Comments#">#Comments#</div>On Column Formatting / HTML Expression
    And for the popup URL, I used:
    onclick="window.open(this.href,'_blank','resizable=0,scrollbars=0,width=650,height=300,menubar=0,location=0');return false;" title="Comments"On the Column Link / Link Attributes

    Andy thank you for your reply, however I either am not completly understanding or there is a problem elsewhere.
    I have changed to the code to fit the needs of the application as so:

  • FDM column width in Import and Validate Screens data table

    Hi all,
    is it somehow possible to influence the width of the columns in the Import and Validate/Export Screen in any way?
    I have the problem, that the column width is always a little bit to wide and so I have to scroll to the amount column everytime.
    Thanks for your help in advance

    You would need to modify several XMLs. We strongly recommend against this as it voids the application being available for support from Oracle.

    The finder window for an external USB hard disk suddenly started separating files by time (today, yesterday, etc.) and stopped allowing me to change column width, order, etc. Also the header bar shifted to flat white from gray.
    All was normal until the icon for the disk stopped showing up on the desktop when I would plug it in. I rebooted the computer, and the disk icon now shows up but this new look to the finder window started as a result. The hard disk does not have this problem when I use it on another Mac running Snow leopard. Also, two other external hard disks that I use on this computer running lion 7.4 still have the normal header bars with columns that can be reordered, etc.
    I have tried looking in preferences and other places but have not seen this discussed.

    Well duh - I finally figured out that somehow in the View options for the hard drive, the "arrange by" option had been changed to "by date" from "none". Not sure how that happened, I had never used the "view options" menu tem before. Changing "arrange by" back to "none" gets the gray column headers and the collapsible folder icons back.

  • How to set and fix column widths in Mavericks?

    Until recently I was using a Mid 2011 MBA with OS X 10.8.X.
    I don't know what I did but the column widths in the Finder started to self-adjust to the longest filename.
    Now I have migrated my user account from this MBA to a new MBP running OS X 10.9.1.
    But the Finder in this account still has the same affliction, I can adjust column widths to where I want them but as soon as I click on a file or folder, the column widths readjust to the length of the longest file/folder name.
    How can I stop the Finder from doing that automatically?
    Thanks for your help and Happy Holidays!

    Dear William Lloyd:
    I actually learnt how to do this from another post in this community just a few hours ago.
    You adjust column wisth in Finder by placing your curser at the column edge and while holding Option key down, move column edge to the width you desire.
    This will make a "sticky" change i.e., column widths will stay where you set until you chanage them.
    I would like to to attribute this to the poster I learnt from but I am not able to find that post again.
    Cheers.
