UIX - JSF example?

One thing that would really help at my company to sell the idea of building UIX pages now and migrating them to JSF when the standard finalizes would be an example of what this transformation might look like. Is there any chance of a small example of a UIX page with a few interesting features and the JSF that would result from a translation?
Thanks!

Here is a reply from management and PMs:
The natural extension of what we have today is that a .uix file (XML) would be making calls to JSF components instead of UIX components. This would be very much in line with your XUL example, and it means that a .uix file would be yet another way to access JSF, like JSP or XUL.
However, we are very aware of the advantage of developer familiarity with JSP that you mentioned. It is a very important goal of ours to continue to bring UIX technology closer in line with JSP, and the most recent evidence of that was the UIX support for JSP 2.0 EL we added in JDeveloper 10g. There will be more movement in that direction once JSF is finalized and fully supported in JDeveloper, but additional details are still in the works. :)
There will be some obvious differences between UIX and JSF. For example, JSF provides standard mechanisms for automatic event and state handling for components, and this will mean that some UIX code will no longer be needed in a JSF application. We expect to provide upgrade utilities for pages that use the UIX XML syntax, because that is one of the benefits of using XML.
However, JSF itself is still months away from completion. Providing support for JSF in JDeveloper is tied to that, as we cannot ship support for JSF in a production release until JSF itself is production. That doesn't match well with the JDeveloper 10g schedule, but the rough schedule diagram at:
http://radio.weblogs.com/0118231/2003/09/18.html#a155
might give you a better idea of which release would be in line with the current JSF schedule -- JDeveloper 10g 10.0.3.
I hope this helps. Let us know if you have more questions.

  • ADF UIX table example: oracle.cabo.doc.* missing

    Hi,
    I'm working through the Oracle ADF UIX Developer's Guide and want to try the ADF UIX Table Example. Unfortunately I don't seem to have the classes which are referred to in that example (located in oracle.cabo.doc.demo.table..), which makes it difficult for me to follow and understand the example.
    I've found a reply to a post to this forum of 26-nov-2002 where it is stated that these files were at that moment not yet available.
    My question is: have these files become available in the meantime. If so, wher can I find them?
    Regards,
    Anton

    Clicking on a sortable header generates a sort event. You need to specify a handler for this event. The error you see is a result of the application not knowing how to handle the sort event. On your page you should include something like the following to handle the sort event:
    <handlers>
    <event name="sort">
    <method class="myPackage.myClass" method="doMySort"/>
    </event>
    </handlers>
    For more details, see the "Sortable Column Headers" section in this chapter of the ADF UIX Dev Guide: http://helponline.oracle.com/jdeveloper/help/state/content/navSetId.jdeveloper/navId.4/vtAnchor.Sort/vtTopicFile.jdeveloper%7Cuixhelp%7Cuixdevguide%7Ctables%7Ehtml/

    Hi, Any help would be deeply appreciated. I am trying to run code I've written to test jsf on WSAD and am getting the following runtime error when I deploy to the test environment. • UIX - JSF converter

    Hi,
    Did anyone succeded in converting BC4J+UIX project into BC4J+JSF? Available converter fails to convert even small project with one page with one table on UIX page...
    Any success stories?
    Leszek

    Hi,
    When I try to run generated jspx page through struts, I get following error in browser:
    500 Internal Server Error
    java.lang.IncompatibleClassChangeError
    at oracle.cabo.share.xml.ParseErrorUtils.getErrorMessage(Unknown Source)
    at oracle.cabo.share.xml.ParseErrorUtils.log(Unknown Source)
    at oracle.cabo.ui.xml.parse.UINodeParser._parseBinding(Unknown Source)
    etc.
    I run it through struts because converter puts on struts my simple page. It doesn't put it on faces-config. However even when I try to run it through faces (I change url in browser by adding 'faces/' and changing extension from '.do' to '.jspx' I still get an error:
    500 Internal Server Error
    javax.faces.el.EvaluationException: com.sun.faces.el.impl.ElException: No function is mapped to the name "ctrl:createSortableHeaderModel"
         at com.sun.faces.el.ValueBindingImpl.getValue(ValueBindingImpl.java:188)

         at oracle.adf.view.faces.bean.FacesBeanImpl.getProperty(FacesBeanImpl.java:55)
    I think that converted page shouldn't contain el expressions that are used to create sortable table headers.
    Anyway, converter is unable to convert so simple project into working JSF project... so it's not helping us in our work.
    Leszek
    P.S. I've sent simple UIX testcase to you. It's ounconverted so you may do it by yourself to be sure that the problem so not related to wrong conversion method...

  • UIX LOV example has a problem

    I am a UIX newbie and I tried the EBO article found on http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/obe_as_1012/j2ee/develop/client/uix_lov_obe/uix_lov_obe.htm
    It is an excellent tutorial. However, when I get to run the data page to select a new department ID, the pop-up page does not disappear when I use Safari. The application seems to more or less work in Safari.
    In firefox, the popup window does disappear, but the parten window does not adopt the value selected in the popup window properly.
    What can I do to fox these problems?

  • Has anyone run JSF examples which bundled w/ Sun Web Services pack

    I'm having problem deploying the cardemo.war and need
    some help.Both versions 1.2 and 1.3 of the Java Web Services Developer Pack have the earlier EA4 version of JavaServer Faces embedded within them. If you are trying to deploy a copy of Cardemo (or any other example webapp) from the beta release of JavaServer Faces, you MUST first replace the EA4 binaries, as outlined in the installation instructions:

  • Example Wanted:  JSP UIX data binding

    Hullo! I'm trying to display an active tree using 9.0.3 JSP UIX. I was successful in straight UIX (thanks to the examples), but can't figure out how do get the databinding correct in JSP/UIX. Does anyone have an example using <uix:tree>, or failing that how about anything substantial in JSP/UIX?
    The uiXML/UIX download examples are great, and the online documentation is extensive though I find it hard to follow... but for the JSP side there just aren't any working examples!
    Thanks so much.

  • Creating a JSF Web application from scratch.

    hi,
    i have created a JSF web application, but not from scratch i had to use a jsf example included in the final specification of the JSF download, as a template to create my own application, by deleting and editing the example files with my own.
    i tried to do it from scratch including all the settings, parameters and files that should be in place, but i sill get an error when starting the app in tomcat.
    Unfortunately i dont have the error listing anymore since i have got around the problem through alternate path. however i do remember that it came with cannot find FacesServlet, or something to do with the FacesServlet.
    if anyone could shed some light on this it would be really great because it so frustrating.
    many thanks.
    dharam

    cannot find FacesServlet, or something to do with the FacesServlet.It might appear not because you have a wrong project structure, but because you point to the entry jsp file directly without using the servlet mapping in your URL. Check this first.

  • How to create a Watch List using JSF

    I'd like to build a HTML UI which includes the toggling of items from a watch list. For example, stocks or system alerts which are important to the user. First of all are there any JSF example which demonstrate this type of application? What is the best approach for building such an interface so that individual lines can be added and removed from the watch list and the view mode can be toggled from watch list only items to all items?
    I've looked at the data repeater component example and tried to make that work for this purpose but I'm struggling with some of the details and wondering if the approach taken is good or if there is a better approach. Basically what I have is a List of line items held in a managed bean class. This List is associated to my repeater's value tag. The managed bean also has a UIData element and a UISelectBoolean with the former associated to the repeater's binding and the latter associated to a invisible selectboolean_checkbox (rendered="false").
    As the user presses an "Add" watchlist button with an action of toggleWatch the UISelectedBoolean.setSelected (onWatchList) is toggled between true and false for the current UIData.getRowIndex(). However, in tracing the code with a debugger, I see as the component tree is rendered that suddenly all UIData rows appear to have their onWatchList.isSelected() toggled to the new value.
    Additionally, when I toggle between the view modes of show watchlist and show all my method to determine what gets rendered doesn't appear to have any effect. This is, when pressing the Show Watch button, the viewType is set to "watch" and then a setRendered method is called to setRendered() for each UIData row as follows. Again, this appears to have no effect.
    public void setRendered()
    for (int i=0; i< myList.size(); i++)
    data.setRowIndex(i);
    if ( viewType.equals("watch") && !onWatchList.isSelected() ) <-UISelectBoolean type
    data.setRendered(false);
    else if ( viewType.equals("raised") && !raised.isSelected() )
    data.setRendered(false);
    else
    data.setRendered(true);
    Am I making this too hard or am I just missing something minor???

    Upon further debugging it looks like the current issues may be caused by only one onWatchList (UISelectBoolean) existing instead of one for each row in the UIData group. So, what builds the association here? In the RepeaterBean example class the checked UISelectBoolean is simply declared as a instance variable but is never associated to the UIData. How are these glued together?
    Of course, I'm still wondering if the is a much better / easier way to get the same results...

  • Building the site structure for a dynamic website with JSF

    Hi,
    I am still a JSF-beginner.
    I try to build a fully-functional base-demo-application with a fix and a dynamic part.
    Fix part for menu, dynamic part for site-content.
    At the moment, the JSF-hyperlinks of the main menu work, but any JSF-parts in the included documents of the dynamic part are not shown. I guess, this is dued to inclusion of subviews, but I cannot find any similar examples in the web to come one step further.
    Here my complete demo:

    Who can name me that code positions responsible for that the JSF link in the dynamic part is not shown?
    It is not that it does not work it is not shown. The JSF tree seems to be cut because of wrong use of view and subview etc.
    (To put view tags in site1.jsp and site2.jsp does not help.)
    (Once having afforded an example it should go... (*Then* with JSTL, external CSS, etc. ;) )
    Dynamical site structure with include files is the big problem at the moment.)
    bye, Maik

    I found your following suggestions for such cases (seems you are the only profound JSF freak in the world...? :-) )
    Switch between subviews in one main page
    http://balusc.blogspot.com/2007/01/dynamic-jsf-subviews.html
    But the main problem for me is that I never find complete examples, but always fragments and it would be important for a beginner to have at least once a complete JSF example over a few subviews, especially here where it is very easy to corrupt the internal tree.
    (Some examples use the subview tags in the calling JSP, some in the called e.g.... Does not matter where to put it? Some use verbatim tags for HTML code outside JSF, some don't... and so on)
    Can anyone give me an URL for a complete example of a JSF site (with all files as possible, I am not very patient, too, but in this case it makes sense to have it entire ;-) ) with dynamic switches of subviews as preferentially used for bigger portal sites?

    I think my WAS 6.1 running environment doesn’t admit Tag Handler classes in JSF 1.2 style (you know: Extending UIComponentELTag, with all attributes in the tag class of type valueExpression along with setter methods...).
    In case this suspect is true, is there any tricky way to run this JSF 1.2 components in a JSF 1.1 environment?
    Do you have any ideas to solve this problem without downgrading my JSF tag handler classes from 1.2 to 1.1?
    Thanks a lot!

    Hi BalusC,
    This is the full history:
    I started coding the tag handler classes of my JSF components in the JSF 1.2 way.
    But know, I’am being forced to run the web app that uses those JSF 1.2 components in a WAS 6.1 (servlet 2.4 & jsp 2.0, I suppose).
    Not very elegant solution, I put a ‘servlet2.5-jsp2.1-api.jar’ file in my ‘WebContent\WEB-INF\lib’ directory, and configured a ‘PARENT-LAST’ class loader policy in the server configuration.
    This is my web.xml:
    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <web-app xmlns="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee"
         xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
         xsi:schemaLocation="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee
            http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee/web-app_2_5.xsd"
         version="2.5">
       <servlet>
          <servlet-name>Faces Servlet</servlet-name>
          <servlet-class>javax.faces.webapp.FacesServlet</servlet-class>
          <load-on-startup>1</load-on-startup>
       </servlet>
       <servlet-mapping>
          <servlet-name>Faces Servlet</servlet-name>
          <url-pattern>*.faces</url-pattern>
       </servlet-mapping>
         <welcome-file-list>
              <welcome-file>index.html</welcome-file>
              <welcome-file>index.htm</welcome-file>
              <welcome-file>index.jsp</welcome-file>
              <welcome-file>default.html</welcome-file>
              <welcome-file>default.htm</welcome-file>
              <welcome-file>default.jsp</welcome-file>
         </welcome-file-list>
    </web-app>When I launch the JSF example page, I get no logs, no messages, ONLY a blank page (¿?)
    Thank you very much for your skilled help!

  • Anyone deploy ADF(UIX,Struts,BC4J) to 9iAS 9.02?

    Has anyone been successful in deploying a ADF 10g app using UIX/Struts/BC4J to Oracle 9iAS 9.02?

    Deploying a UIX application directly from JDeveloper 10g to iAS 9.0.2 isn't supported out of the box. You can deploy directly to iAS 10g (9.0.4), standalone OC4J 10g (9.0.4) instances (one is included with JDeveloper 10g), iAS 9.0.3 Java edition, standalone OC4J 9.0.3, and selected third party servlet engines.
    There are two issues that you would need to workaround to deploy a 10g ADF application to iAS 9.0.2. One issue is that 9.0.2 versions of some of the ADF libraries (BC4J and UIX for example) are on the global application.xml classpath of the iAS 9.0.2 customer home OC4J instance. You would need to manually upgrade your 9.0.2 instance to have all of the ADF 10g libraries. The second issue is that some of the ADF 10g libraries (like BC4J) require JDK 1.4, and iAS 9.0.2 shipped with an earlier version of the JDK. I personally don't know if using iAS 9.0.2 with JDK 1.4 is a supported combination, but I will try to find out for you.
    By the way, you might wonder why we don't have these same problems with with iAS 9.0.3 and 9.0.4 since the ADF 10g libraries are more recent than what shipped with those releases. In OC4J 9.0.3 and 9.0.4 there is a "search-local-classes-first" option in orion-web.xml that allows classes provided as part of a web application to be loaded in preference to what is on the global application.xml classpath. We use this feature to deploy ADF 10g applications (and include the JARs for some of the ADF libraries in the WEB-INF/lib of the application). In addition, there is a tool called the ADF Installer that is part of JDeveloper that will upgrade versions of some of the backward compatible ADF libraries (like BC4J) in the global application.xml.

    Hi MatLee,
    I follow the guide on chapter Configuration for ADF UIX to redefine paths for uit files and uix files but it doesn't work. I created a new uix page and it keep saving the page in the default root directory (public_html) instead of the path that I specified.
    Could you please show me very detail <uix-path> example and uit path example that redefine the default paths for those two type of files. I need a working code examples, not a generic or shortcut ones. I need to store those files in their respective directories and relative to the root directory because the application is big and have many modules; each module's uix pages should be saved in their own directories and also separate from the template files directory.
    Also, can I specify more than one paths in the <uix-path> tag? and is this tag used for redefining the path for uit templates file location as well or there is other tag for it?
    Thanks
    Tom

    "Cannot find FacesContext" error typically occurs when you don't call FacesServlet.
    Check your web.xml.
    If you specify as <url-pattern>/faces/*</url-pattern>
    you should browse "http://localhost:8080/xxxx/faces/page.jsp",
    not "http://localhost:8080/xxxx/page.jsp".
