Umlaute & graphics in mail

hi.
I have the following problem :
if I send a mail with german umlaute (üöäß) and/or a graphic inside the mail, the recipient receives a fragmented email with strange symbols.
sometimes the pictureattachment is not displayed as attachment. the recipient receives only strange letters.
It seems that the problem mainly appears if the recipient uses outlook express. but not only.
I tried to change the attachment type to "windows compertible" and changing the email format to utf-8.
but without any effect.
any ideas someone ? I am quite desperate, because I can't tell every recipient to change to a mac

See this note for info on the character problem and possible fixes:

  • Need help deleting graphic junk mail

    I need help. I cannot delete graphic junk mail into trash. When I try it says unable to move messages. Messages could not be moved to mailbox trash. And the dial keeps spinning. I'm not getting mail cuz this junk is bogging down my iPad & iPhone.
    Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I tried going on my MAC and deleting but they dont show up there?!? I tried rebooting, hard reset, nothin.
    Please anyone out there ? I'd be eternally grateful.

    If you cannot delete them on the Mac, it will probably be problematic trying to delete them on the iPad as well.
    You said you couldn't delete them on the Mac either. If you mean in the Mac mail app, don't delete them there. Delete them on the server in your web browser. Launch Safari - or whatever browser you use on the Mac and then go to your web mail and delete the email there.

  • Umlauts break e-mail functionality

    Dear all,
    I had continous issues with my mail functionality whereas some day it would work nicely and pull my mails as they were received but on other days, I would not get anything. New mails are stuck on the IMAP server and I'm not even informed (inbox gives this little yellow warning sign). After some back and forth on settings, I realized it must have something to do with the actual mails and was able to trace it down to a mail that had an attachment with an umlaut character in the filename (e.g. "Abschätzung.doc"). Once removed, my mail works ok again. Every time I send myself an attachment with umlauts, I get the same error (this mail is not pulled and neither any other; no notification, just the warning sign).
    Strangely this behaviour is not consisten across all my IMAP providers. GMX fails miserably, Googlemail seems to be able to handle this nicely.
    Still, it seems to be a case of missing international support in the client.
    Can anyone advise if this is a known defect? Are you able to reproduce this?
    Another, maybe related issue is with Umlauts in default mail folders ("Gelöscht" for Trash). These still won't work in WebOS' email client. For this however, there is a workaround. For the mails with umlaut attachment there is not
    Thanks,
    Emheo

    Hello emheo and welcome to the forums....
    Interesting issue you have here.  If the attachment is being received from one email provider but not the other one, It appears the issue lies with the email provider.  Not with the device.
    If both accounts are IMAPs as indicated, the device would either accept or not accept any attachment with the umlaut characters in it.  Have you checked with GMX regarding this issue?

  • Dynamic graphic in Mail forms

    Hi All,
    I have a mail form which has been created in transaction CRMD_EMAIL. I have been asked to enhance it with a dynamic graphic image.
    There will be uploaded 1 image pr customer in transaction SE78.
    And for each document I must find the corresponding image.
    In normal smartform I can choose between 'Fixed value' and 'Dynamic field value' for graphichs name. And I can see that it works when I create a global variabel eg. 'TESTNAME' and assign it the value '123456'. if I then enter &TESTNAME& as dynamic graphic name, and test print it works fine and prints graphical image 123456.
    But in with the mail forms in CRMD_EMAIL, this is not available. If I enter a variable the field disaperes and in test mode i get the error 'Graphic cannot be displayed' - This is identical to the error I get in smartforms if I enter a name that does not exist.
    Does anybody knows if this is possible to do in mail forms. Or if I can use the smartforms instead of the Mail forms when working with campaigns.
    Best regards
    Dennis Lybecker

    Hi Gregor,
    Thanks for your quick response.
    The document was ment to include a technical drawing regarding the specific installation for the customer/prospect.
    It looks like we are going to include this drawing in a different document, which should be created in smartform.
    If anybody come up with a way to do this - please let us all know.
    Best regards
    Dennis

  • Odd graphic in mail

    Oddly, I noticed that every email I forward from work ends up with an image of a kiss in the upper right hand corner...directly across from the FROM, TO, SUBJECT section.
    Anyone else have this or some other graphic only on email from a specific address? Am I missing something?

    Does this appear when viewing messages sent by the account in the account's Sent mailbox at work?
    If so, you add a user picture (or available icon) via System Preferences/Users under the Picture tab for your login account and this can also be done with your contact information in the Address Book.
    Adding a user picture (or available icon) via System Preferences/Users is an easy process but removing it from there isn't as easy.
    To remove the existing, go to your contact information in the Address Book. Select Edit to edit your contact information. Select the "Me" picture area to highlight it and then the Delete key.
    The user picture or icon selected is not sent with your messages. In order to do so requires storing the picture or icon on the .Mac server (if you have a .Mac account) and even then, it would only appear if the recipient is a Mail.app user.

  • Umlauts in e-mail-templates

    Hi everybody,
    my sun idm 8.0-setup usually has no issues with german umlauts like äöüß, it should be clean UTF-8.
    However, I face problems using such characters in my email-templates, they are always broken and messages like "welcome Mr. M?ller" just won't work...
    Any ideas anybody? Is there a way to specify an encoding?
    CU,
    Patrick.

    Well, I consider myself to be quite experienced regarding email and encoding-issues, so I know the theory and could easily send messages in a couple of languages.
    However: HOW do I do that with sun idm?
    I try to use an EmailTemplate like this:
    <EmailTemplate id='' name='' displayName='' smtpHost='$(smtpHost)' fromAddress='%%DEFAULT_FROM_ADDRESS%%' toAddress='$(toAddress)' cc='$(ccAddress)' authEnabled='$(authEnabled)' userId='$(userId)' password='$(password)' ssl='$(ssl)' port='$(port)' ignoreCert='$(ignoreCert)'>
    <Variable name='user' external='true'/>
    <subject>German Umlauts</subject>
    <body>This mail contains umlauts: äöüß</body>
    <MemberObjectGroups>
    <ObjectRef type='ObjectGroup' id='#ID#All' name='All'/>
    </MemberObjectGroups>
    </EmailTemplate>
    But it won't work, because the encoding is broken.
    What do I have to change in order "to be using the MIME encoded form"?
    Of course I could develop my own email-sending-class and invoke my class in the workflow instead of using an EmailTemplate. But that's not my preferred solution.
    CU,
    Patrick.

  • Smartforms Graphics in mail  viewing outside the network

    Hi Gurus
    We need to insert the company logo below the signature.
    I have uploaded the image to MIME repository and it works fie withint the network
    But when then mail is sent to outside the network, the image appears as red X mark because the image link is pointing towards SAP Server.
    I need to embed the picture rather than attaching it through the link .. Have seen few codes but its not applicable here..
    Please suggest
    Thanks
    Rakesh

    Many thanks for your reply Sandra
    I did uplaod the picture in SE78 and attached the graphic to smartforms. However I am not using PDF hence it does not get enbedded in the mail and instead sends a link to the SAP MIME repository URL.
    Anyways I was able to embed the picture in the emails using the blog

  • Graphics Issue (Mail)

         I upgraded to Mountain Lion yesterday and I've noticed that sometimes when I go into Mail, there seems to be a graphics glitch and then goes away.  Today, I went to Apple and they told me its most likely a bug they'll have to patch since it's the first version of ML.  I have a picture to show you (you can see where it's distorted/glitchy).  It's mostly when I open mail with a message from something that has links.  They sent it to the engineers to see what's wrong.  My hardware diagnostic came back fine too.  Should I be worried? It definitely seems like a software issue with ML.  Hopefully Apple fixes this and I'm not the only one.  Thanks for any feedback.

    You're certainly not the only person experiencing this. I see it too on my MacBookAir4,2 and have seen a number of other forum posts describing the same thing.
    I have only seen it in Mail. It appears over numbers and hyperlinks in messages. It moves with the window when the window is dragged around. It stays in the same place when scrolling the message initially, but after a second the view seems to redraw and the graphics glitches jump to a new position, enmass but maintain their position relative to each other.
    It's not your hardware and it's not 'just your luck'; bugs are very common in new software. I get the impression this one is fairly common so I'm sure it will be resolved soon enough.

  • Allowing graphics in Mail

    Is there a setting I can use in Mail to allow me to accept graphics? In adverts from places such as www.deepdiscountdvd.com the pictures don't display leaving a ? mark in their place. This has not happened before and I wonder if some setting has gotten changed?

    17" Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    Go to Mail > Preferences > Viewing.
    For security purposes, you should deselect "Display remote images in HTML messages".
    When doing so, if a valid (non-spam) message received includes embedded images or objects that must be rendered from a remote server to be viewed, there will be a Load Images button at the upper right of the message window just above the message header.
    Many spammers format their bulk spam mailings with HTML and include embedded images and/or objects that must be rendered from a remote server to be viewed. If so and such a spam message is opened and any embedded images or objects are rendered, this can reveal to the spammer that your email address is valid or "known good" causing even more spam to be received.
    If you are automatically rendering all HTML received or not and using the Load Images button for a valid message received that includes images/objects that must be rendered from a remote server to be viewed and some are not rendered properly, this can be a problem with the remote server where these images or objects must be rendered from.
    Do you have access to another email client such as the Mail.app on your Mac you can check the same messages with?

  • Odd graphic in mail headers

    My sister is seeing an odd image when examining the headers of a received email. When her mouse rolls over an area (I guess where address book info links are) then this huge circle appears. Its a powder blue circle with a small, white, downward pointed triangle at the 3 o'clock position. Also the different header fields become widely spaces vertically...
    Any ideas?

    I don't fully understand what are you talking about, but I have the feeling that your sister has been playing too much with fonts lately:

  • Howto create recipient with umlaut?

    Hi there,
    when I try to send an eMail to a recipient containing an umlaut, the umlaut ends up as Question Mark.
    Umlauts in Subject and Body work just fine. I am using jdk 1.6.0.18/linux i386 and javamail 1.4.3:
    MimeMessage m = new MimeMessage(s);
    m.setFrom( new InternetAddress( "me@localhost" ) );
    m.setRecipients( Message.RecipientType.TO, new InternetAddress[] {
         new InternetAddress( "\"Schöne Umlaute\" <[email protected]>" ) // mail delivers but name is garbled
    Multipart body = new MimeMultipart();
    m.setSubject("Etwas schönes"); // works
    MimeBodyPart part = new MimeBodyPart();
    part.setText( "Ein schöner Inhalt." ); // works
    body.addBodyPart(part);
    m.setContent( body );Turning session debugging on reveals that the recipient name is being sent verbatim, whereas the subject is being encoded,
    so suspect the problem inside JavaMail. I tried both de_DE and de_DE.UTF-8 as LC_CTYPE.
    What am I doing wrong?

  • Inserting picture in e-mail form

    Hi Gurus.
    I have a problem with insterting graphics in mail form. I'm creating email (text type HTML). Then accordingly to SAP help: [Inserting Graphics in the HTML Editor|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_crm50/helpdata/en/43/18fbcc5a2704bae10000000a11466f/frameset.htm] try to insert graphic. But I can't see it in HTML editor (only red cross) and when I choose channel test there is no graphic on the preview screen also (only red cross). When I try to use this form in IC WebClient in preview tere is also only red cross.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Will the email be send correctly with jpg? (I can't check sending for the moment).
    I know that I can add jpg files as a URL, but that is not my point.
    Regards
    Piotr

    Hi,
    U can send .jpg images with u r mail forms, instead of creating node or url for u r desired image u need to simply place the cursor on u r text and click insert picure icon it'll upload the image on u r mail form.
    U Channel test(F8) and make sure u r image preview opens, u can see the source of u r image in HTML source view.

  • Windows 7 has no notification of RAID failure?

    This is a repost of this thread: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itprogeneral/thread/a77c6445-e504-4394-a945-7a6c096e0871
    Per Technet, being a subscriber guarantees me a response from a Microsoft Engineer within two business days, but the previous thread was not answered satisfactorily, and now Microsoft seems to be ignoring it.  Since my previous thread went unresolved
    and this is of critical importance, I chose to repost this and get a real answer from Microsoft.
    Having Software RAID as a built-in option seems like a great idea. Hard disks are notoriously unreliable, and they carry the most important part of our technological world: our data. Being able to easily build a software RAID from two cheap 1TB drives gives
    me so much piece of mind ... or does it?
    I've noticed my software RAID seems to be periodically losing sync.* This is worrisome (maybe a drive is failing?) but not nearly as worrisome as HOW I noticed it. For some reason, after cruising along smoothly for several months with my RAID 1, I decided
    to check on its status in Computer Management -> Disk Management. And, oh nos! there was my software RAID with a Failed Redundancy Error. I had to "Reactivate Disk" and it started resynching. I decided to check again every so often and everything was fine
    again for a while until I lost synch again.
    Again, my losing synch is not the point of this post. My point is why was there NO NOTIFICATION of my synchronization loss? I have NO IDEA how long my drives had lost synchronization before I stumbled upon that fact the first time. What is the point of software
    RAID if Windows does not inform you that it has failed? I could lose one drive, go cruising along for months thinking I'm fine, then lose the other drive and POW! I'm left with nothing due to a false sense of security (please no lectures on RAID being for
    reducing downtime and not for use as a backup solution - I KNOW).
    I just had another loss of synchronization, and I checked around to see if I had been notified anywhere else (the Action Center seems like it could be a good candidate for this). Finding nothing, I've come here to post my concerns.
    But in order to maintain my required level of uptime, I need to KNOW when a drive has failed redundancy so I can correct the situation (by replacing the drive or other). Where is the notification that I am running on only one drive?
    Update: In the previous thread, it was suggested I use the Windows Task Scheduler to make my own custom notification based on RAID failure events in the Event Viewer.  After investigating this unnecessarily obtuse (but usable) solution, it was found
    that Windows 7 does not generate any events for RAID synchronization failures.  This is astounding.  What I really want is graphical, e-mail, and event notification of a drive failure.  I will take just an event.  I find it amazing that
    the new "Action Center" thinks it is important enough to tell me that my Flash player has a problem, but can't let me know that a drive is failing.  This seems like the perfect job for an OS notification system: to warn you when the feces is about to
    impact the ventilator.
    *Update: the disk in question ended up dying completely and was replaced under warranty with no problems and the machine is now happily cruising along with 2 working and synchronized hard drives once again.  I would have never noticed I had a failed
    hard drive if I didn't check on my own.

    This is another Kludge that works on Windows 7
    Microsoft Sysinternals has the BGInfo tool, which you can add vbscripts to generate additional data that gets included in the display.
    For example:
    Fields
    - Custom - New - 'MyRAID'
    * VB Script file
    Path: C:\raidchk.vbs
    The contents of raidchk.vbs are below and belong to three websites, put together.
    Site A. provided the idea for a vbscript to parse the diskpart.exe info
    Site B. provided a better script that produced wscript messages
    Site C. explained the wscript object was not available in VB script and to use Createobject instead
    Once the script is generating output, adding it to the BGInfo configuration display is as easy as adding the line:
    MyRAID:   <MyRAID>
    The output of the script gets substituted into the display field.
    An improvement would be to WinTask schedule it to periodically update it. The length of the message output will dynamically "shift" the display front an center when a major event happens. The Vbscript could also include a. email, b. eventlogger,
    c. whistles and bells audio.. ect..
    The reason the information is so hard to get at appears to be because VDS is a COM object based service, which brokers a user tool connection to vendor raid COM interface. There is no native wmi provider that will subscribe to the Microsoft RAID notifications
    and provide status information, let alone bind to a notification service like email or eventx. diskpart or dmadmin are the limits provided.
    But it almost looks like something Powershell could handle.
    VDS Under PowerShell - a hint that it could be done
    Some references that the information is readily available:
    Volume Object- Mirror is a type of volume to VDS
    VDS_VOLUME_PROP structure - a VDS volume has a status structure
    status - A
    VDS_VOLUME_STATUS enumeration value that specifies the status of the volume.
    health - A
    VDS_HEALTH enumeration value that specifies the health state of the volume.
    TransitionState - A
    VDS_TRANSITION_STATE enumeration value that specifies the transition state of the volume.
    VDS_VOLUME_NOTIFICATION structure - a VDS volume
    An application can receive volume events by implementing the
    IVdsAdviseSink interface and passing the interface pointer as an argument to the
    IVdsService::Advise method.
    To get the volume object, use the
    IVdsService::GetObject method. You can then use the
    IVdsVolume::GetProperties method or the
    IVdsVolume2::GetProperties2 method to get the volume properties.
    VDS Notifications
    I say that without looking around very much. The recommended language for implementing a provider are C/C++ ect.. although I've never heard of a VB script wmi provider.. I think there would be data type language problems. Thus we are left with polling
    as with most scripting, or some sort of event trigger like a eventx alert that will run a script as needed. The Advanced XMLconfig for Windows Task Scheduler in Win 7/2008 is quite advanced and has a fine degree of control for matching events if there are
    events being logged by the VDS service with actual source data.
    VDS is on the way out, the COM interface is deprecated and will not support storage spaces, likewise the API and tools for Storage Spaces will not support VDS. This is a "take a leap of faith" moment.
    I tend to prefer to wait a year or two before trusting my data to the effort.
    As for Software vs Intel ICH vs dedicated HBA ?
    I'm interested at a low level for personal use, something easy and reliable beyond Tape backup or any system that requires me to perform an action, or allocate huge amounts of reduced performance time to feed the Tapes, feed the Backup service.. ect.
    I have tried every variation possible and come to the conclusion that at one time Hardware raid made sense on an enterprise level. But never the consumer. The RAID built into the motherboard tends to stay with the motherboard if that dies. Ditto with the
    HBA and its impossible trying to source a compatible HBA a season or two after the latest greatest hardware release. A long term available HBA is going to cost lots of money, because they have no other way to make back the money they could have made by releasing
    more new product, or to pay for the space to store the inventory. Ebay is not a great hardware vendor HBA sourcing plan. Tape backup and any major network backup system are too slow.
    At the same time, BIOS/UEFI being what it is, trusting a bootable volume to RAID between versions from the same manufacturer or differerent manufacturers is fool hardy. There is no incentive for cross vendor bootable RAID support. So plan to burn the bootable
    operating system drive, its expendable. Deliberately move the profile and data regions to either junction points or off to the mirror array. When a drive dies, replace it, when a motherboard dies replace it and reinstall the operating system. When all else
    fails, import the foreign "soft" raid mirror into another operating system.. and with 2003/XP being over 13 years old and still kicking.. that trumps any hardware vendor for longevity. If W7 lasts that long.. or longer.. it will be a good run. W8/2012
    are in their infancy and have a lot of testing to go through in the real world.
    And for offsite replication, static archiving. There is always eSATA and an external drive that could be added to the mirror and subsequently broken. Being natively driven by the operating system I would suspect it would be reliable.. but testing is always
    the best way to shore up belief.
