  • E4200 v1- problem creating a shared folder for the FTP server.

    Hi,
I'm trying to share an external USB harddrive (4TB- HFS+) that is attached to my e4200 router.  I'm trying to set up the FTP server, but when I try to create a shared folder, I get kicked out of the browser based interface for the router just as I'm trying to save the new shared drive.  I have tried many different things to get it to work: different computers (PC and Mac) different browsers, reflashing the firmware (which is version 1.0.06, build 3), I tried all of this with an NTFS formatted drive as well-  everytime I try to set up the shared folder- right as I hit the save button it kicks me out saying: Session Failure.
I can see my drive on the local network, and I know the FTP server is working, because I can log into it from the outside- but I don't see anything shared, when I do.
I have successfully gotten the media server to work using the same drive- but I can't create shared folder there either...  It seems to have shared the entire disk automatically when I first connected the drive to the router.
Anybody have anything else for me to try?
    Help!

Same problem. Has anyone found a solution? I contacted tech support and got nonsense responses. I was of course asked to Factory Reset even though I told them I had done it before I called - classic brush off. Basicly here is the problem.
    1. I cannot create a share on a USB connected HDD - this worked on the older Firmware. Now every time I try to set up the shared folder- right as I hit the save button it kicks me out saying: Session Failure. I am not the only person with the problem. Crazy thing is I had a share created and it worked after the upgrade. I wanted to add an additional share and now it wont share anything. HDD plugged into my PC works great. I was asked to try a different PC - even though I told them I tried from IE, Chrome, Firefox on a Windows 7, Vista, windows XP, IPad, Kindle and Samsung phone.
    2. While troubleshooting with the agent I discovered that although I have remote access disabled in the Administration>Management page but I can still access the router remotely. This is a huge security issue.
    3. Linksys is no longer a Cisco Company - if the code is this bad Belkin should take the Cisco logo out of the GUI. Don’t blame Cisco for your poor SW.
I am ready to buy a new router and avoid Linksys and Belkin all together in light of these issues.
Additionally, I would simply downgrade but the older Firmware is not available. When I asked for it I was told I could not get it.

  • Stop network home from being created and shared on login

I have successfully set up a OD server bound to Active Directory. I have the shares set up exactly how I want them - except - I don't want network users to have their home folder automatically created. I am only using AD for authentication and not network home folders. Is there a way for when a user logs in to not have the home folder created on the server and thus preventing it from being shared. I only want the shares that I have specified in the Share Point window to show up.

    Hi there,
    I bring good tidings .
After some tweeking I've gotten this to work.
Replace [YOURDOMAIN] with the first part of the FQDN, e.g. my.domain.net will make MY.plist
    Step 1:
copy /Library/Preferences/OpenDirectory/Configurations/Active Directory/[YOUDORMAIN].plist to your Desktop
Change the permissions so you can edit the plist file (I use Plist Editor pro to edit.)
    Step 2:
    Find the key:
    MCXDockSpecialFolders-Raw
    Step 3:
    Delete the string under it:
    0          AddDockMCXOriginalNetworkHomeFolder
    Step 4:
    sudo cp [YOURDOMAIN].plist /Library/Preferences/OpenDirectory/Configurations/Active Directory/[YOURDOMAIN].plist
Reboot and watch the magic happen!!
I have been fiddling about with some other settings in this plist, it seems to be very powerfull.
I don't know why apple doesn't make options in the AD Plugin to manage these settings, but then again power = the power to break things.
I still mount the network home drive, but I do it with a login hook so that I have the power.
Hope to have made some people happy, but I bet I have.
It's a pity I don't get points for resolving issues myself, this one would be word many points.

  • Auto Save folder not being created with new project

Just recently I've noticed that when I start a new project there is no auto save folder being created.  I have all preferences the same (auto save every 10 min with a max of 50 and save next to project files).  I have no idea why this started or what I can do to fix it.

So it seems to be working now.  I went back through other projects that have been open for some time and the most recent auto save file I could find for any of them was from Oct. 8th.  So auto save hasn't been working at all.  What I did was go into preferences and change the interval a little and the frequency from where I had had it since intial set up.  That seemed to have told it to turn it back on for some reason.  It's really weird.  I guess I'll just keep an eye on it, but people may want to check there folders just in case the same issue is happening.  I didn't realize it until today and it's been happening for a couple of weeks apparently.

  • How do i create a shared folder?

I need to transfer some files from my Windows XP PC to my Ibook G4 and I don't know how to make a shared folder cause I'm pretty bad with network related stuff.

The shared folder is built in to your user account. To access it via XP you need to activate Windows File Sharing under Preference/Sharing and make sure your account is enabled.
From there you should be able to see it from XP.
I'm not 100% sure about what you have access from there, but I think you'll figure it out.

  • Group Folder not being created

Within workgroup manager for particular groups I have selected an auto mount folder as a group folder. I have also specified diradmin as the owner. Now I assume once doing that Workgroup Manager should automatically create a folder for that group... however it isn't doing that? Can anybody help me as to why it is not working correctly?

    Hi
In the past (10.4) it could take anything up to 3 days for the Group folder to be created - yes it's true. Issuing this command:
    sudo /usr/bin/creategroupfolder
Got it done quickly. Now days I prefer to create my own and make a created group the owner. Less time and fuss.

  • Why is itunes only importing a few songs out of many in itunes music folder and then creating a new folder named "music" contianing those few songs?

This problem has come up after installing a new hard disk to replace a failed one.  I restored the music just fine but iTunes only recognizes a few of the song tracks and then creates a new folder within iTunes called "music"  that contains those few songs.  Tried deleting the .itl and .xml files and reimporting via "Add Library Folder" option with similar results.

  • When creating new group, no group folder is being created!

    Hi,
I passed from standard server to advanced one. I have 2 shared points called "group" and "user" configured on a separate hard drive. When I create a user (create home folder), the home folder is created. When I create a group, no folder is created. So when a user login, his group folder appears with a question mark.
Afp works fine so since the share point "user" works fine.
    Any ideas?

Group folder creation is not automatic. You have to open a terminal session on the server, and run the command:
    sudo CreateGroupFolder
If that doesn't create the folder, check to make sure it's properly set in Workgroup Manager (including having an owner defined), fix any problems, and try it again.

  • How to stop music folder from being created when changing media folder

When I try to change the media folder location, a new "music" folder is created - how do I stop this from happening (I already have a music folder that I want it to default to, but when I try to select it, it creates another music sub folder)
This is a new issue - I have been using itunes for years without ever having this problem...

That's how itunes 9 works, now. The top-level folder is considered the "Media" folder and there are music, podcast, movie, audiobook, etc subfolders.
Which is better in a way, since before itunes 9, everything was dumped in a music folder, even audiobooks that weren't music.

  • How Can I Stop My Music Folder From Being Created...

I have installed and successfully migrated my iTunes to a NAS...the problem is that everytime I start iTunes it recreates the My Music folder on my local hard drive...as (a) I no longer need or want this folder and (b) I find it both annoying and potentially confusing that ut appears, is there any way to stop it from being recreated time after time...
    Thanks so much...

Must be missing something in description. My Music folder is from Windows not iTunes. iTunes places its content in iTunes folder inside My Music folder. As for not using the folder I don't think you can. The iTunes library file(itl, xml) are put into iTunes folder inside My Music folder.

  • "Impulse Responses" Folder keeps being created on Desktop.

I have recently purchased a Mac and Logic Pro X. Over the passed week I have been writing various bits of music using different samples (Built-In Logic onesm and Garritan Personal Orchestra 4). This problem has only started occuring a few minutes ago, but when I open when of my compositions, an Impulse Response Folder is create on my desktop, but it is completely empty. This doesnt happen with any of my logic projects, which are all stored in the same place. The one that creates this folder only uses a saxophone and piano, with one of Logics reverb plugins, so there is nothing different about this one to the others. Anyways any help would be appreciated, as I'm trying to keep my Mac as clean as possible, file wise, so having this empty folder appearing on my desktop is quite frustrating..
    Many thanks in advanced!
    - Jake Few

I have fixed this problem by simply copying the tracks, with the automation data, into another logic project and saving over the old one.. don't know why that didn't occur to me before!
If anyone knows why it was doing this in the first place I would still appreciate an answer, so I know if there is a way to prevent this happening in the future!
    Again, many thanks

  • Create Database on NAS Shared Folder

I installed Oracle 10g Server on Windows 2000 Advanced Server. I use a Fastora NAS-208 NAS system and create a shared folder on it and I want to create an oracle databas on this shared folder but I can't because of Oracle Server wants to change ACL (Access Control List) of database location and add Administrator & SYSTEM users to ACL after clear ACL. It could clear ACL of shared folder but couldn't add SYSTEM and Administrator users to ACL thus ACL of container folder of database will be empty and Oracle Server colud not create database files (data files,...) on it.
Please guide me to solve this problem.

    thx for the reply.
1.) no only one vm would access the datafiles.
The methodology helps where I can deploy the version of oracle that runs the database is deployed as a vm.
The version of the database doesn't change often for the product. The database can change, often.
To level set a host of machines where developers are working, unit test are running and so on. I can push
a set of files that make up the database off to a bunch of different physical machines.
Or people can simply grab the set of files and copy them.
This allows an easy way to only push/pull the data files, without vm's even started. And to only to have to transmit
that what has changed, the data files.
2.) the uid/gid of the oracle user in the guest, and the user that owns the directory on the host are the same and are what I'm using in the mount command.
I do not believe this is a rights issue. The oracle user can create/delete/edit/touch files in the shared folder in question.
It's simply that oracle seems to think it's a nfs mount, which it is not.
So just wondering if anyone else has solved this. thx...

  • How to create shared folder by default

    Hi
I have a problem of course. I want to create new folder in my shared folders with the same permissions as the "root" folder. It doesn't work! Why?
Everytime I create a new folder it gets limited permissions for Groups and Others.
    Please ...

As you have discovered, any new file created on OS X is read-only to all but the creator.
Fortunately, OS X 10.4 has a feature called Access Control Lists that will allow you to create a shared folder in which all files will automatically be read+write for all the users you specify.
Log in as an administrator and create a new folder in /Users/Shared called "sharefolder" or something similar. Then, from Terminal, enter the following to enable ACLs on your boot drive:
    sudo fsaclctl -p / -e
Then enter this, replacing USERNAME with the short user name of the user to be given access (you can paste the whole thing at once) :
sudo chmod +a "USERNAME allow delete,chown,list,search,add_file,\
    addsubdirectory,delete_child,file_inherit,directoryinherit" \
    /Users/Shared/sharefolder
Repeat that last step, replacing USERNAME with the short user name of another user to be given access.
When you are done, all users who you specified will have full read/write access to everything that is placed inside sharefolder in the future. ACLs are one of Tiger's most underrated features, IMO.
Warning: Files have to either be CREATED in the folder, or COPIED there. MOVING files from elsewhere on the same volume to the sharefolder won't cause the new permissions settings to stick.

  • Can't Create Shared Folder

I can not seem to create a shared folder.  What am I doing wrong?
I select the "Sharing" tab and program displays "Connecting to Library" (retrieving latest shared activity) for several minutes and then displays a button "Start Sharing".  Depressing the button brings up a window to enter a "Shared Album Name". To (list of who to share it with), and an optional comment box,
If a provide a name (Photos), and provide a "To", then when I press "Create" the screen just goes back to "Start Sharing"
    Help, please

I figured it out. It's odd though. It was allowing me to see and operate the folders on the MBP using an older username from one of my prior OSs. My new Mavericks username is different than whet the permissions on the MBP were set to. Once I set up permissions on the MBP using the username that appears on my iMac Mavericks' in the User folder, it allowed me to create the folder. Strange though that it would let me connect and share without the new username.
NOT SOLVED. . It still doesnt work. I mistakenly created the folder in my own User Music folder on the iMac by mistake
