Unable to allow traffic from remote office - Cisco RV220W

Hi there,
I have just bought the RV220W Cisco router firewall because my DLINK-1600 got broken and now I am unable to allow access to the machines located behind this router from the machines located at a remote office. Any help would be much appreciated!!
This is the situation:
1. Two remote offices A and B connected by a VPN tunnel (this connection is managed by an external provider and it is properly functioning)
2. IP range A office: 192.168.236.0/24
3. IP range B office: 192.168.237.0/24
4. Office A: CISCO RV220W router/firewall (the one that I´ve just bought as the old dlink has broken). This RV220W is connected to a cisco router (managed by provider) that is the one with the VPN tunnel to the other office. The CISCO router does not do NAT. On the other end (Office B) there is another CISCO router managed by the provider.
5. Everything was working smoothly until our old router/firewall got broken and that is when I bought the rv220w. I have set up the CISCO RV220W at office A and the machines can ping the machines located at office B and can browse the internet, i.e., the traffic going out is OK and in that sense everything works smoothly.
6. The problem is that the machines located at office B cannot access the machines located behind the CISCO RV220W and I know it is a problem of the firewall as if I capture traffic coming from office B, I can see that it is dropped by the CISCO RV220W.
7. I have tried to enable an access rule in the firewall to allow traffic from office B (see picture below) but it does not seem to work. In the field, Send to Local Server (DNAT IP) I have entered the WAN IP of my router (you cannot leave it blank) … this rule does not work at all. I think that is not properly configured but I don´t know how to do it.
8. As you see, the problem is that I don´t know how to set up a rule to allow specific traffic coming from the WAN (traffic from remote office – 192.168.237.0/24) to the LAN at office A - 192.168.236.0/24.
In the old router/firewall I just had to create a rule specifying the source interface (WAN) and network (Office B) and the destination interdace (LANOfficeA) and network (Office A). It does not seem that here I can do the same. i mean, you always have to point to a server ip inside the LAN??
I know it has to be a very easy thing to do but at this moment I am completely stuck. If anyone can give me some advice would be great.
Thanks a lot for your help in advanced!
Eva

Hi Eva, the default inbound policy cannot be changed. It will block all inbound traffic. To my knowledge there is not a way around this. Access rules are the only way to 'poke' a hole through the firewall but as you note, it is for a specific host. Values such as .0 and .255 do not work.

  • Allowing traffic from inside to outside ASA5505 7.2(3)

    Hello,
    Let me start by saying that I'm just starting to study for CCNA, so the ASA seems to be a bit above me yet.  The ASA's we are using is for VPN to our corporate office and only allowing access to our Citrix environment, so no direct internet allowed.  We have a person who works in the remote office who has need for a caption telephone that requires direct access to the internet.  The phone only supports DHCP, and getting the ASA to do an ARP reservations is proving difficult.  For now I wrote an access list to allow it's DHCP address out but it still isn't working.  The access list I wrote is:
    access-list 101 extended permit ip host xxx.xxx.xxx.124 any log
    access-list 101 extended permit ip any any
    access-group 101 out interface outside
    When I do a show access-list I'm seeing that traffic is hitting the access list as the hit counter has increased.  When I do a show conn I'm seeing one of the IP's that the phone should have access to, however the flags are: saA, so I'm assuming they are not getting a response.  According to the manufacturer, only outbound connections are needed, no incoming ports required.  All traffic is TCP.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    Hi Kevin,
    I can ping the outside world from the ASA itself.  Unfortunately, I cannot assign DNS manually, it only accepts DHCP.  I have set up a PC there with the same access list for testing purposes.  I assigned public DNS to the test PC and that is unable to get out.  When i do a show conn, this is what i get:
    UDP out 8.8.8.8:53 in x.x.x.113:64918 idle 0:00:14 flags -
    UDP out 8.8.4.4:53 in x.x.x.113:64458 idle 0:00:29 flags -

  • Best scenario sending/receiving data to/from remote office

    We must implement some interfaces, sending and receiving from/to a great number of local office (more than two hundred) located arround our country.
    Moreover this local office may be off-line all night long and also at times, so we must control it sending them information.
    So... what's the best scenario in the case of SAP --> local office?
    and what's the best scenario in the case local office --> SAP?
    It's very important to guarantee control of exception and avoid lost of information.
    Thanks, in advance.

    hi
    if you want to transfer data from local offices to SAP and vice versa u need to use SAp XI in between and schedule the interfaces.
    if u tell me you requirement in deatil i can help you out

  • Unable to delete rows from remote db table

    Hi
    I am relatively new to SQL Server and this issue is strange to me.
    In my vb.net code I am opening a connection to local MS Access DB using oledb provider and then am executing below query to remote SQL Server via DBCommand.ExecuteNonQuery();
    DELETE tblStaff.* FROM Staff INNER JOIN [ODBC;Driver=SQL Server;SERVER=<remote ip>;DATABASE=dddddddd;UID=uuuuuuuu;PWD=ppppppppp].tblStaff ON Staff.[Staff ID] = tblStaff.[StaffID] WHERE Staff.[Contact Status] <> "Current"
    This however created below error in the code;
    System.AccessViolationException was unhandled
    Message=Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt.
    Source=System.Data
    StackTrace:

    at System.Data.OleDb.OleDbCommand.ExecuteReaderInternal(CommandBehavior behavior, String method)
    at System.Data.OleDb.OleDbCommand.ExecuteNonQuery()
    During testing I noticed that if I create the relevant table tblStaff in another database on the same remote SQL Server then it works fine, so it appeared to me there is some issue with the original backend db or the table.
    The relevant table tblStaff is related to several tables in the database. I assumed that relations may be an issue so I set the relations to cascade delete even though none of the tables contains any data at this point. This did not work. I then went into
    database diagram, added all the tables and then deleted all relations of the tblStaff table. This did not work either. I then used 'Script Table as..->CREATE to' to script the tblStaff in Management Studio, deleted original tblStaff and ran the create script
    above to recreate the tblStaff table. This worked.
    What is the problem here and why doesn't the table accept delete query in its original form? I appreciate it’s the .net code that creates the error but as the error seems to be related to the backend SQL Server db therefore I have posted it here in case
    someone can help with this.
    Thanks
    Regards

    Sorry I still do not get it. when you say "Its a legacy app", are you talking about the VB.NET app ?
    If so then I repeat my self :-) Why not to connecting to the SQL server directly?
    * even if you need information from several databases (for example ACCESS + SQL Server), in most cases, it is much better to connect directly and get each information to the app. Then in your app you can combine the information and analyse it

  • HT4623 unable to access itunes from ipad

    I am unable to access itunes from remote devices which include my ipad and iphone. When I try to purchase apps etc, I am advised "Cannot connect to itunes Store"

    Hello marie-louise,
    I recommend taking a look at this section of the article Can't connect to the iTunes Store found here http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1368.
    Troubleshooting on an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
    If you haven't been able to connect to the iTunes Store:
    Make sure that your iOS software is up to date by connecting your iOS device to iTunes and clicking on Check for Update in your device's Summary page in iTunes.
    Check and verify that you are in range of a Wi-Fi router or base station. If you are on a 3G capable device, make sure that cellular data is turned on from Settings > General > Cellular.
    Note: If connected to 3G, larger items may not download. You may need to connect to Wi-Fi to download apps, videos, and podcasts.
    Check to make sure you have an active internet connection. You can check the User Guide for your device for help with connecting to the internet.
    Check to make sure other devices (portable computers, for example) are able to connect to the Wi-Fi network and access the internet.
    Try resetting (turning off and then on again) your Wi-Fi router
    If the issue persists, see troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections.
    Note: All iPhone, and iPod touch models support 802.11b/g Wi-Fi networks. In addition, iPhone 4, and iPod touch (4th generation) support 802.11n Wi-Fi networks (2.4 GHz only).
    And if that does not resolve the issue take a look at this article:
    iTunes: Advanced iTunes Store troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3297
    All the very best,
    Sterling

  • SQL firewall rule to restrict traffic from only one Azure PaaS website (cross-post from websites)

    (This has also been posted on the websites forum)
    Hi,
    I have been asked to configure the firewall on the SQL PaaS instance to only allow traffic from a specified PaaS website that is within the same subscription. I can't see any way to set a static internal IP for the website, is there a way to identify it
    for the purpose of the SQL Database firewall rule?
    Thanks,
    Karina

    You're right, KG! Sorry.
    This article mentions a reserved-IP:
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/azure/dn690120.aspx
    It specifically mentions your scenario:
    You want to ensure that outbound traffic from Azure uses a predictable IP address. You may have your firewall configured to allow only traffic from specific IP addresses. By reserving a VIP, you will know the source IP address and won’t
    have to update your firewall rules due to a VIP change. This is especially helpful if you want to configure your firewall before you create your cloud service.
    The only thing I'm not confident on would be if it works with Azure Websites - it does mention cloud services, though. If you have further questions, I can give a shot myself and see if I can get a working example.

    Hi Karina,
    If you used Azure Vm, you could set ta static internal IP for your VM. And you can host your website on VM.https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/azure/dn630228.aspx
    But for Azure Website service, I think you may not set the internal IP. But I think you can try to add the website server into your allow rule list if you used the basic or standard mode website.
    BTW, I suggest you can post this issue on SQL Azure forum for more helps:

  • TcpListener not working on Azure: Unable to read data from the transport connection: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host

    Hi Everybody,
    i'm playing a little bit with Windows Azure and I'm blocked with a really simple issue (or maybe not).
    I've created a Cloud Service containing one simple Worker Role. I've configured an EndPoint in the WorkerRole configuration, which allows Input connections via tcp on port 10100.
    Here the ServiceDefinition.csdef file content:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <ServiceDefinition name="EmacCloudService" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/ServiceHosting/2008/10/ServiceDefinition" schemaVersion="2014-01.2.3">
    <WorkerRole name="TcpListenerWorkerRole" vmsize="Small">
    <Imports>
    <Import moduleName="Diagnostics" />
    <Import moduleName="RemoteAccess" />
    <Import moduleName="RemoteForwarder" />
    </Imports>
    <Endpoints>
    <InputEndpoint name="Endpoint1" protocol="tcp" port="10100" />
    </Endpoints>
    </WorkerRole>
    </ServiceDefinition>
    This WorkerRole is just creating a TcpListener object listening to the configured port (using the RoleEnvironment instance) and waits for an incoming connection. It receives a message and returns a hardcoded message (see code snippet below).
    namespace TcpListenerWorkerRole
    using System;
    using System.Net;
    using Microsoft.WindowsAzure.ServiceRuntime;
    using System.Net.Sockets;
    using System.Text;
    using Roche.Emac.Infrastructure;
    using System.IO;
    using System.Threading.Tasks;
    using Microsoft.WindowsAzure.Diagnostics;
    using System.Linq;
    public class WorkerRole : RoleEntryPoint
    public override void Run()
    // This is a sample worker implementation. Replace with your logic.
    LoggingProvider.Logger.Info("TcpListenerWorkerRole entry point called");
    TcpListener listener = null;
    try
    listener = new TcpListener(RoleEnvironment.CurrentRoleInstance.InstanceEndpoints["Endpoint1"].IPEndpoint);
    listener.ExclusiveAddressUse = false;
    listener.Start();
    LoggingProvider.Logger.Info(string.Format("TcpListener started at '{0}:{1}'", RoleEnvironment.CurrentRoleInstance.InstanceEndpoints["Endpoint1"].IPEndpoint.Address, RoleEnvironment.CurrentRoleInstance.InstanceEndpoints["Endpoint1"].IPEndpoint.Port));
    catch (SocketException ex)
    LoggingProvider.Logger.Exception("Unexpected exception while creating the TcpListener", ex);
    return;
    while (true)
    Task.Run(async () =>
    TcpClient client = await listener.AcceptTcpClientAsync();
    LoggingProvider.Logger.Info(string.Format("Client connected. Address='{0}'", client.Client.RemoteEndPoint.ToString()));
    NetworkStream networkStream = client.GetStream();
    StreamReader reader = new StreamReader(networkStream);
    StreamWriter writer = new StreamWriter(networkStream);
    writer.AutoFlush = true;
    string input = string.Empty;
    while (true)
    try
    char[] receivedChars = new char[client.ReceiveBufferSize];
    LoggingProvider.Logger.Info("Buffer size: " + client.ReceiveBufferSize);
    int readedChars = reader.Read(receivedChars, 0, client.ReceiveBufferSize);
    char[] validChars = new char[readedChars];
    Array.ConstrainedCopy(receivedChars, 0, validChars, 0, readedChars);
    input = new string(validChars);
    LoggingProvider.Logger.Info("This is what the host sent to you: " + input+". Readed chars=" + readedChars);
    try
    string orderResultFormat = Encoding.ASCII.GetString(Encoding.ASCII.GetBytes("\xB")) + @"MSH|^~\&|Instrument|Laboratory|LIS|LIS Facility|20120427123212+0100||ORL^O34^ORL_O34| 11|P|2.5.1||||||UNICODE UTF-8|||LAB-28^IHE" + Environment.NewLine + "MSA|AA|10" + Environment.NewLine + @"PID|||patientId||""""||19700101|M" + Environment.NewLine + "SPM|1|sampleId&ROCHE||ORH^^HL70487|||||||P^^HL70369" + Environment.NewLine + "SAC|||sampleId" + Environment.NewLine + "ORC|OK|orderId|||SC||||20120427123212" + Encoding.ASCII.GetString(Encoding.ASCII.GetBytes("\x1c\x0d"));
    writer.Write(orderResultFormat);
    catch (Exception e)
    LoggingProvider.Logger.Exception("Unexpected exception while writting the response", e);
    client.Close();
    break;
    catch (Exception ex)
    LoggingProvider.Logger.Exception("Unexpected exception while Reading the request", ex);
    client.Close();
    break;
    }).Wait();
    public override bool OnStart()
    // Set the maximum number of concurrent connections
    ServicePointManager.DefaultConnectionLimit = 12;
    DiagnosticMonitor.Start("Microsoft.WindowsAzure.Plugins.Diagnostics.ConnectionString");
    RoleEnvironment.Changing += RoleEnvironment_Changing;
    return base.OnStart();
    private void RoleEnvironment_Changing(object sender, RoleEnvironmentChangingEventArgs e)
    // If a configuration setting is changing
    LoggingProvider.Logger.Info("RoleEnvironment is changing....");
    if (e.Changes.Any(change => change is RoleEnvironmentConfigurationSettingChange))
    // Set e.Cancel to true to restart this role instance
    e.Cancel = true;
    As you can see, nothing special is being done. I've used the RoleEnvironment.CurrentRoleInstance.InstanceEndpoints to retrieve the current IPEndpoint.
    Running the Cloud Service in the Windows Azure Compute Emulator everything works fine, but when I deploy it in Azure, then I receive the following Exception:

    As you can see, the client can connect to the service (the log shows the message: Client connected with the address) but when it tries to read the bytes from the stream, it throws the exception.
    For me it seems like Azure is preventing the retrieval of the message. I've tried to disable the Firewall in the VM in Azure and the same continues happening.
    I'm using Windows Azure SDK 2.3
    Any help will be very very welcome!
    Thanks in advance!

    hi Javier,
    I changed your code like this:
    private AutoResetEvent connectionWaitHandle = new AutoResetEvent(false);
    public override void Run()
    TcpListener listener = null;
    try
    listener = new TcpListener(
    RoleEnvironment.CurrentRoleInstance.InstanceEndpoints["Endpoint"].IPEndpoint);
    listener.ExclusiveAddressUse = false;
    listener.Start();
    catch (SocketException se)
    return;
    while (true)
    IAsyncResult result = listener.BeginAcceptTcpClient(HandleAsyncConnection, listener);
    connectionWaitHandle.WaitOne();
    The HandleAsync method is your "While (true)" code:
    private void HandleAsyncConnection(IAsyncResult result)
    TcpListener listener = (TcpListener)result.AsyncState;
    TcpClient client = listener.EndAcceptTcpClient(result);
    connectionWaitHandle.Set();
    NetworkStream netStream = client.GetStream();
    StreamReader reader = new StreamReader(netStream);
    StreamWriter writer = new StreamWriter(netStream);
    writer.AutoFlush = true;
    string input = string.Empty;
    try
    char[] receivedChars = new char[client.ReceiveBufferSize];
    // LoggingProvider.Logger.Info("Buffer size: " + client.ReceiveBufferSize);
    int readedChars = reader.Read(receivedChars, 0, client.ReceiveBufferSize);
    char[] validChars = new char[readedChars];
    Array.ConstrainedCopy(receivedChars, 0, validChars, 0, readedChars);
    input = new string(validChars);
    // LoggingProvider.Logger.Info("This is what the host sent to you: " + input + ". Readed chars=" + readedChars);
    try
    string orderResultFormat = Encoding.ASCII.GetString(Encoding.ASCII.GetBytes("\xB")) + @"MSH|^~\&|Instrument|Laboratory|LIS|LIS Facility|20120427123212+0100||ORL^O34^ORL_O34| 11|P|2.5.1||||||UNICODE UTF-8|||LAB-28^IHE" + Environment.NewLine + "MSA|AA|10" + Environment.NewLine + @"PID|||patientId||""""||19700101|M" + Environment.NewLine + "SPM|1|sampleId&ROCHE||ORH^^HL70487|||||||P^^HL70369" + Environment.NewLine + "SAC|||sampleId" + Environment.NewLine + "ORC|OK|orderId|||SC||||20120427123212" + Encoding.ASCII.GetString(Encoding.ASCII.GetBytes("\x1c\x0d"));
    writer.Write(orderResultFormat);
    catch (Exception e)
    // LoggingProvider.Logger.Exception("Unexpected exception while writting the response", e);
    client.Close();
    catch (Exception ex)
    //LoggingProvider.Logger.Exception("Unexpected exception while Reading the request", ex);
    client.Close();
    Please try it. For this error message, I suggest you could refer to this thread (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/6173763/using-windows-azure-to-use-as-a-tcp-server

  • Possible to allow any traffic from a certain IP?

    Basic question:
    I'm using Snow Leopard and want to be able to allow any incoming traffic from a certain IP. I'm not concerned about what ports because it's a local device (PS3) behind the router. Is there a way to accomplish this without resorting to ipfw?
    Additional info:
    I have tried to add the PS3 Media Server program to the firewall list but even though it's set to allow, the firewall blocks incoming connections for it. I confirmed this through the console logs. I think it's something to do with being a Java based program.
    Console:
    8/29/09 3:37:59 PM 0x0-0x85085.PS3 Media Server1106 main TRACE 15:37:59.547 Created socket: /10.0.1.2:5001
    8/29/09 3:37:59 PM Firewall1028 JavaApplicationS is listening from 10.0.1.2:5001 proto=6
    8/29/09 3:38:04 PM Firewall1028 Deny JavaApplicationS connecting from 10.0.1.3:50680 to port 5001 proto=6

    Don't know anything about the topic, but this might help.

  • How do I access my iMac remotely when working away from the office?

    I work away from the office for much of the time.  How can I access my iMac remotely?

    Unless this is critcal for some reason I would not do this.  Unless you understand all the techinolticcal pit falls you can leave your computer dangerusly exposed doing this.  If you are not technical your best bet is going to be to get a wireless router with built in VPN support ($200 - $500) to give you a secure connection home.  And then you will need the Apple Remote Desktop app ($90 I think) and even then it will only work if your work compute is also a Mac.  There are probably other comerial apps that will let you remote into your Mac desktop on windows but will probably be in the $200 price range.

  • Cisco video camera monitoring software from remote location

    Hello
    What is the best way to use the  Cisco video camera monitoring software from remote location.
    I am talking about the AVMS / SWVMS software.
    I am thinking of either a vpn tunnel or Remote Desktop (Terminal Services).
    I would like to use the vpn tunnel, but am afraid that the encryption/decryption of all data will drastically slow down the data throughput.
    THanks,
    Cliff

    Hi Clifford,
    Thank you for posting. I use the AVMS software remotely and it works good. At first I changed the http ports of each camera and forwarded those ports in the router. I set up the cameras in the remote AVMS software with the WAN IP address and port number. That worked quite well. I then decided to try to reach the cameras through a VPN tunnel. I found that it worked perfectly and I was able to view up to 6 cameras. Your results will vary depending on how much bandwidth you have at each end. The important thing is the upload speed at the camera end of the tunnel. I have anywhere from 3-4 Mbps at any given time for the upload speed at the camera side and 30-40 Mbps download speed at the AVMS server side. I have also used UltraVNC to view the AVMS server through the tunnel and that worked well. Note that if you view the AVMS software using RDP you will see a black screen where the video should be. This is a limitation of RDP, not the software.
    Please reply if you have any questions.
