Unable to connect to the 10g Express edition database in oracle forms

hi,
i have installed Oracle Database 10g Express Edition and oracle 10g developer suite. i need to work on oracle forms by connecting to the database of the 10g express edition but unable to do so as i am not aware of the database name or SID.
can any one tell me how to connect to the above database in oracle forms by specifying username, password and database name ?
Thanks,
Viddu

specifying username, passwordSet up your database user, easy way is to grant them the resource role (*strongly* suggest not using sys nor system for user data) here's one command line sqlplus method:
$ sqlplus /nolog
SQL> connect system -- or connect /as sysdba; if system credential is lost/forgotten
SQL> create user username identified by userpasswd default tablespace <tablespace> temporary tablespace <temp tablespace>;
SQL> grant connect, resource to username;
SQL> exit;
> the database name or SID
Its XE "out of the box", with a servicename is XE as well, using the default port 1521 on the host. The install should also set up a tns alias named, oddly enough, XE, with those connection details from the install. It comes with a USERS data tablespace, and TEMP temporary tablespace.
So after the user is created, i.e. with sqlplus:
SQL> connect username/passwd
or if your session is not on the host where the database is running, with a tns alias pointing to the XE install host in place:
SQL> connect username/passwd@xe
From a different client machine you will need a tnsnames.ora entry defining an alias, it could be any name you would prefer to use as long as the entry points the the database host and port with the correct ORACLE_SID or the database service name.
And don't forget to glance over the documentation, it is thorough and helpful as well http://www.oracle.com/pls/xe102/homepage

  • Using Oracle Developer Suite 10g with the 10g Express Edition Database

    I'm new to Oracle and I'm taking an SQL college level course using a text book entitled "Guide to Oracle 10g". Our text book came with Oracle Developer Suite 10g (9.0.4.0.1) but no database. We adopted the 10g Express Edition (XE) as the database. I have both the database and the Developer Suite loaded on Windows XP Pro. I've been using the database for months now and it runs fine and the Developer Suite installed OK.
    However, I would like to use some of the Developer Suite apps (for learning purposes) with the database but I can't seem to log on to the database through the Developer apps when I open them and use my 10g XE database user-name and password. For starters, I would like to see if I could use the edition of SQLPlus (release 9.0.1.4.0) that comes with the Developer Suite because it has configuration options that are not available in the SQLPlus command line version that 10g XE contains (which otherwise works fine).
    When I open SQLPlus (Developer Suite Version) and try to log on with my database user name and password (and no host string), I get the error:
    ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error
    I did search the discussion forum first and also reviewed some Oracle pdf's including the concepts pdf but came up empty. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions on how to succeed or a determination of the compatibility of 10g XE with the Developer Suite. Thanks kindly.

    I think your last idea might be helpful at this point and in case it matters, they are both installed on a sinlge machine (laptop). Thanks in advance:

  • Oracle 10g express Edition Database

    We are using oracle 10g express edition with a temporary storage space for a class using SQL. When creating and using the database, the data is being deleted after 1 or 2 days and students are having to start over, creating tables and inserting data. Any suggestions?

    suggestions?Backups?
    Or, as long as the DDLs and DMLs don't take long, rerunning table create and insert SQLs would probably be much faster than setting up the database(s) in archivelog mode and copying datafile/archivelog files or rman backup files someplace that won't get reimaged every other day.

    I have installed enterprise manager 10g and also express edition 10g .But after installing the enterprise manager 10g and trying to access the url http://127.0.0.1:8080/apex .The xdb username and password is prompted.I deleted the entry in init.ora for the xdb parameter to avoid the userid prompt but still the xdb login credentials are prompted.How can I avoid this message in order to access the 10g express edition home page.

    It appears you've got two things listening on port 8080, or more accurately two things that want to listen on port 8080. The winner is probably the Enterprise Manager. The easiest way to check this would be to connect as SYSDBA and run the following to reset the 10gXE XDB listener port:
    EXEC dbms_xdb.sethttpport(8181);
    Then, attempt to reconnect to the 10gXE on the new port. I suspect a new attempt to connect at the old port 8080 will return the same message. If it doesn't fix it, you should probably inspect the configuration file for XDB. You can do that by running the following:
    SET LONG 10000
    SET PAGESIZE 9999
    SELECT dbms_xdb.cfg_get() FROM dual;
    You'll find the template for configuration in the $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/xml directory. Hope this helps.

  • Java Connection Pooling issue with Oracle 10g Express Edition

    Hello
    I have a Java based web application that uses the Oracle 10g Express Edition database. I am using a connection pool to get connections to the database.
    I use the NetBeans IDE and run my web application on the bundled Tomcat server(5.5.7) that comes with the IDE. Though when I initially run the application from the IDE, the connection pool is set up fine, when I recompile my java code and try to run the application again, I get the following error each time:
    Listener refused the connection with the following error:
    ORA-12516, TNS:listener could not find available handler with the
    matching protocol stack.
    The logs before the error shows up, indicate that the connection pool object is fine and gives me the number of available connections and the number of active connections and so on, which I have printed from the constructor of the Connection Pool class:
    For e.g.:
    Cache size = 17
    Available Connections = 17
    Cache Limit = 1000
    Active size = 0
    However, if I kill my Tomcat server process and run the application again, it works fine with no error.
    I looked around for possible causes and solutions and all I could find
    was increasing the processes parameter value in the init.ora file. I have increased the parameter value to from 100 to 20000 now, in increments of 500/1000 each time but it hasnt worked so far.
    Someone else suggested that I increase the size of my connection pool; I initially had it set to a minimum limit of 5, an initial limit of 10 and a maximum limit of 1000. However if I set the Initial Limit to anything above 17 connections, I see the following log on the Bundled Tomcat log and my application doesn't run at all:
    Log: Loading JDBC Driver : class=oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver ...
    Log: Loaded JDBC Driver
    Log: Connection with URL=jdbc:oracle:thin:@localhost:1521:xe as username/password
    Error code not handled : 0
    Exception Message :java.sql.SQLException: Listener refused the connection with the following error:
    ORA-12519, TNS: no appropriate service handler found
    The Connection descriptor used by the client was:
    localhost:1521:xe
    // End of log
    And the Bundled Tomcat server automatically shuts down.
    Again the System.out statements from the Connection Pool class constructor show that the cache has been initialized and that currently there are free connections available in the pool.
    E.g.
    Cache size = 18
    Available Connections = 18
    Cache Limit = 1000
    Active size = 0
    Has anyone faced anything similar? Could someone please suggest what I'm doing wrong here and what I should do to set right this problem?
    Swetha

    hello, please pardon me, my english is basic. i do of my best. i had the same problem until reading the pdf documentation 2 days for java devvelloper.it is simple, follow this way.
    try {OracleDataSource ds;
         Connection conn;
      ds = new OracleDataSource();
      ds.setURL("jdbc:oracle:thin:@localhost");
      conn = ds.getConnection("userid","password");
    Statement stmt = conn.createStatement(ResultSet.TYPE_SCROLL_SENSITIVE, ResultSet.CONCUR_UPDATABLE);
    don't forget to Dowload the user client of oracle Express Edition. do the rest of your program and it will work. take a look to the documentation pdf for java develloper. all it is explained.  good look

It throws error ORA-12154 : TNS could not resolve service name.( same error displayed while trying to connect from SQL Plus).But from toad i am able to access the database. May be because here I am able to select the proper home.

    (SERVICE_NAME = XE)
    can any one suggest what the actual problem is?
    Thanks ..........

    Hello,
    Oracle 10g XE is rather specific and, I'm not sure that you can upgrade it to 10.2.0.4 .
    However, Oracle published an Upgrade Guide for Oracle Express Edition but, it's limited to *10.2.0.3*:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B25329_01/doc/server.102/b32391/toc.htm
    But be careful:
    Once you have upgraded to Oracle Database 10g, you cannot downgrade back to Oracle Database Express Edition.Hope this help.

  • 10g Express Edition on Windows 2008 Enterprise R2 x64 with Active Directory

    I have successfully installed the 10g Express Edition on Windows 2008 Ent. r2 x64 with Microsoft Active Directory Domain Controller but i could not be able to run http://127.0.0.1:8080/apex
    Although i have run the http://127.0.0.1:8080/apex on my another Windows 2008 R2 x64 ant WITHOUT Active Directory Domain Controller Role.
    i think its related with AD Domain server role of my server, because i run that on same config and operation without Active Directory Domain Controller role.
    Can anyone help about this issue?
    thanks in advance

    I have experienced the same problem - running 10g Express on a Win 2008 (32-bit). When not being a Domain controller, the install was fine. When installing after the server had been given the Domain Controller role (+the required DNS), it failed. NO FIREWALLS are involved on the server. Seems like Oracle Express has problems being installed in this kind of environment - independent of x32 or x64 bit OS.

  • Pro*Cobol for Oracle 10g Express Edition is available?

    Hi to all, this is my first post here.
    I evaluating Cobol to Oracle products and I have find one it´s more
    We installed Oracle 10g Express Edition (Server and Client), to test compatibility of a Cobol product.
    This product requires the "rtsora" component, from Pro*Cobol, but we didn´t find it in any place in the instalation packages.
    The documentation show the precompilers to be at $ORACLE_HOME/precomp but there is only two folders (admin and lib) with "ottcfg" files. Nothing more
    Searching this and anothers foruns, I became to think if the precompilers facilities, like Pro*Cobol, may be available to the 10g Express Edition for Linux, OR, if this is a feature available only to the Standart Editions (or Windows)?
    The instalation and users manuals appears to don´t distinguish the 10g standart from the Express Edition. Also, the Express Edition doesn´t ask for any kind of "customization oprtions" as I read about in another topics.
    Edited:
    1 - We are using this on Linux Ubuntu.
    2 - The Windows 10g Express Edition appears to be more complete, but I need to run this on Express Edition.
    Thanks in advance!
