Unable to delete column created under document library.

I've created custom column in SharePoint online (2013). I want to delete one column from my document library. In library settings all columns are showing but its not clickable to select and delete the particular column.
Please advice.

Hi,
Thanks for posting your issue, you won't be able to delete the required column like Tittle, Name from the Document library. you can hide this column.
f the column is on a content type in the library, then first remove it from the content type and then from the library.
Kindly find the below URL to know about hiding and deletion of columns in Document library

  • How to create a document library in Sharepoint Online using Powerpoint?

    I've been trying to create a document library in Sharepoint Online via pwoershell and I've been trying to see if anyone else has the code but the only scripts i could find are for Sharepoint 2010 on-premise and it's not compatible with Sharepoint 2013.

  • Powershell Script to create "custom" Document Library

    I have a powershell script which creates a Document Library for every user in AD.
    This works, but rather than using the default Document Library I want it use a custom Document Library.  However this isnt working.
    My script to create the default Document Library is this...
    [System.Reflection.Assembly]::Load("Microsoft.SharePoint, Version=12.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c")
    $site = new-object Microsoft.SharePoint.SPSite("http://servername/sitename");
    $siteweb = $site.OpenWeb();
    $webs = $siteweb.Webs;
    $strFilter = "(&(objectCategory=User)(name=accountname))"
    $objDomain = New-Object System.DirectoryServices.DirectoryEntry
    $objSearcher = New-Object System.DirectoryServices.DirectorySearcher
    $objSearcher.SearchRoot = $objDomain
    $objSearcher.PageSize = 1000
    $objSearcher.Filter = $strFilter
    $objSearcher.SearchScope = "Subtree"
    $colProplist = "samaccountname"
    foreach ($i in $colPropList){$objSearcher.PropertiesToLoad.Add($i)}
    $colResults = $objSearcher.FindAll()
    foreach ($objResult in $colResults)
    $objItem = $objResult.Properties; $objItem.samaccountname
    $listTemplate = [Microsoft.SharePoint.SPListTemplateType]::DocumentLibrary
    $listId = $siteweb.Lists.Add($objItem.samaccountname, "", $listtemplate);
    $list = $siteweb.Lists.GetList($listId, $true);
    $roleDef = $siteweb.RoleDefinitions.GetByType("Contributor");
    $user = "domain\" + $objItem.samaccountname;
    $rolAssign = new-object Microsoft.SharePoint.SPRoleAssignment($user, "email", "name", "notes");
    $rolAssign.RoleDefinitionBindings.Add($roleDef);
    if(!$list.HasUniqueRoleAssignments)
    {$list.BreakRoleInheritance($true);}
    for ($i = $list.roleAssignments.Count - 1; $i -gt -1; $i--)
    { $list.RoleAssignments.Remove($i) }
    $list.RoleAssignments.Add($rolAssign);
    $list.Update();
    Now I have a custom Document Library named "TESTLIB" so if I substitute the line:
    $listTemplate = [Microsoft.SharePoint.SPListTemplateType]::DocumentLibrary
    with
    $listTemplate = [Microsoft.SharePoint.SPListTemplateType]::TESTLIB
    Then it errors with this...

  • Corrupt document gets created in document library with document template using createlistitem workflowaction in visual studio workflow for office 365 solution

    Hi,
    My requirement is to create a document library associated to a custom content type with a document template associated. Also I need to create a document based on the template in this document library when a new item is created in another list by taking the
    reference ID of that new Item , I need to create the document with the name appended by ID. I need to do all this deployment using WSP.
    I have created document library with document template associated to content type by following instructions in below stated blog :http://blogs.msdn.com/b/chaks/archive/2011/05/19/deploying-a-document-template-file-in-content-type-in-a-office365-sandboxed-solution.aspx
    This works perfect for me.
    However, there are few observations, when going to Document Library > Library Settings > Advanced Settings > Document Template section - doesnt shows the Edit template link. When tried to look at the value for the document template using view source
    , it is giving me /Lists/MyDocsListInstance/Forms/template.dotx instead of the actual template file uploaded.
    Ignoring the above observation, when I am trying to create a sandbox based workflow in visual studio to create document in document library when new item is created in another list, I provide the ContentTypeID as the ID associated with the document library
    with template.
    It creates the corrupt document at end of workflow.
    I have tried using .docx instead of .dotx files for workflow as per solution provided in some of the post but it isnt resolving my issue.
    Any help is much appreciated.
    Regards,
    Krutika

    OK, I am going to throw out a lot of ideas here so hopefully they get you closer to a diagnosis. Hang on :)
    Does it happen to work for some users but not others? If so, try logging in on the "good" computer with the "bad" username. This will tell you if the problem is related to the end-user's system. Also, once the user downloads a document
    successfully can they open and work on it in Word? Also, does the document library have any custom content types associated with it or does it just use 'Document'?
    I notice that there are other folks on the web that have run into this same problem and the similarity seems to be that they are either on SharePoint 2007 or have upgraded from 2007. Did this doc library start out as a 2007 library?
    What you might want to do is this: Make a site collection from scratch in 2013 (or find one that you know was created in 2013). Choose team site (or whatever you want) for the root web and set up the security the same way you have it on the malfunctioning
    library. Now, use windows explorer to copy and paste some of the documents to the new location. Be sure you recreate any needed content types. Now test it from the troubled user's computer.
    I'm thinking there may be something that is different about the library since it was migrated through various versions and updates since 2007. I've sometimes found that there can be problems (especially with user profiles but that's a different story) with
    things that go through this evolution.

  • Create Dynamic Document Library Templates

    I have the following scenario within our IT Org
    1. PMO office maintains a "Standards" library, to which they publish all standard templates that need to be used for Project Management.
    2. Each Project Manager would like to create a document library within their "project site" based on all the documents within "Standards" library.
    My question is, would it be possible to create a document library template whose contents are dynamically pulled from another library?
    Thanks.

    Hi ,
    Based on your description, my understanding is that each Project Manager
    creates document library with the same template, but what they need is that their document libraries have different content type with others.
    There isn’t an out of the box method to create document library templates dynamically.
    For your issue, I suggest each Project Manager create one document content type with the document template which they need, and add the content type into their document libraries.
    Here is a similar case, you can use as a reference:

    I need to create interactive document library in sharepoint 2013. When user uploads document, he should be able to write comment below that document and other users should be able to reply or post other document as well.
    Is it possible to achieve this kind of feature in sharepoint?

    Have you Configure social computing features in SharePoint Server 2013.
    Enable the "SharePoint Server Standard Site Collection features"

  • MMS Hidden columns appearing in Document Library Settings / Column list

    Hello all,
    Before you read this please be aware that I have found a resolution (that might be helpful to others) but I am wondering if anyone else has experienced the same thing and the cause.
    Our scenario is as follows:
    We use a Content Type hub
    Most Content Types include one or more Managed metadata columns
    The MMS Notes (hidden) columns (e.g. mms_column_name_0) have appeared on the 'Document Library Settings page under 'Columns' for 2 document libraries only. They appear under the actual name of the column (e.g. mms_column_name).
    They are NOT visible to the user however (i.e. they are not selectable to be used in a view)
    Looking at SharePoint Manager the mms Notes column's are marked as being Hidden = false. Altering this to true has the desired effect.
    But has anyone else experienced the same issue as I'm inquisitive as to the cause.
    The only thing I can think of that caused this to happen was us using 'Metadata navigation settings' (which allows you to configure navigation hierarchies) for the first time on one of the 2 Doc Libs effected . However, on testing it on other document
    libraries the unhiding of columns has not occurred.
    Can anyone shed any why this may have occurred?
    Jason

    Hi jasonl27,
    this behaviour:
    This is by design. Two separate lists do not have any type of relationship established to distinguish that the
    columns are the same. For example, take an arbitrary column called "Position" being created on two different custom lists. Because the column Position is a custom column created
    in the list, it has no mapping to other lists. The "Position"
    in one list could refer to a title of a person
    in one list, or a physical location on a different list. SharePoint cannot tell if these two items are the same or completely different. As a result, a new column name is added when we move the item.
    perhaps you may try to do these steps:
    $site = Get-SPSite -Identity "http://......../"
    $web = $site.RootWeb
    $field=$web.Fields["column name"]
    $field.Update($true)
    $field.Hidden= "True"
    $web.Dispose()
    $site.Dispose()

  • Copy document step doesn't copy a column of a document library

    I have created a site workflow to run when a document is uploaded to a specific document library(A).
    In the workflow it copies the document which is uploaded to another document library. Destination document library is decided by a column in the "A" document library named as 'Category'.
    Depending on the category the document is copied to one of the other document libraries.There are 8 other document libraries.
    "A" document library has 7 columns created by me. Other document libraries have the exact set of columns(In  there exact same names) and one more extra column.
    Workflow works perfectly fine and it copies the document. But only one column doesn't get copied to the destination libraries.
    This particular column is a "multiple line" type and the number of lines are 4.
    These settings including the column name,type,number of lines all are similar to the source document library.
    Now the strangest thing is this only happens for 6 out of those 8 destination doc libraries. For two of the document libraries all the columns gets copied.(Those two are highlighted in the image)
    I cross referenced almost all the document library settings with the working and not working destination document libraries and couldn't find any difference.
    What could have gone wrong?
    How does the SharePoint match the columns between document libraries when copying a document ? Is it only the column name or is there any other id its using?
    Is there any other way to do debug kind of a thing in a workflow to find out the problem?

    Hi Diren,
    I tested the issue in my environment with SharePoint workflow 2013. I created two libraries, then created a multi-line text column with the same name for both of them respectively. The simple workflow is designed as below:
    And it worked for multi-line text column. It turns out the multi-line text column during the copying to another library. All we have to ensure is the column name is the same. However, when creating column, I didn’t change the default settings unless the
    Number of lines for editing was set to 4 for your situation.
    As the issue occurs to part of libraries, I’d suggest re-adding an multi-line column with same name in the source library and other 7 libraries, and leave them with default settings. Then test the issue again, this helps us to eliminate the possible cause
    with different settings.

  • Algning new folder with other data columns in a document library

    Hi All,
    I have created an InfoPath form that used to create a new form & a new document library and the description to that folder.
    Now my InfoPath form has some text boxes to store data. Also there is an attachment control to upload documents. These documents should be uploaded to the newly created folder.
    The new folder should display at the document library as in the same row with other data columns that were inserted to the data library. I have the problem with the new folder aligning in the same row with other data.
    So if someone can know how to solve this matter please enlighten me.
    Thank You,
    Chiranthaka.

    Can you provide more detail on what exactly you need to achieve and how your system is functioning at the moment? It sounds like you have an Infopath form that can have documents attached to it, you then store these documents into a new folder and wish to
    have the folder represented in the list view for the form in the form library you are using?

  • Unable to add aspx file to document library using REST and JSOM in SharePoint Hosted App

    Hi,
    I am unable to add an aspx file to document library.  I was actually trying to create a WIKI page and upload to Pages library but that wasn't working so I tried simple document library.  It keeps failing with Access Denied error.  I have checked
    the blocked types and aspx is not included.  I can upload it directly from the browser so that shouldn't be the case.  I have read that it can be achieved with CSOM but I need this to work with a SharePoint Hosted App.  Here is my JSOM:
    factory = new SP.ProxyWebRequestExecutorFactory(appweburl);
        context.set_webRequestExecutorFactory(factory);
        appContextSite = new SP.AppContextSite(context, hostweburl);
        oWeb = appContextSite.get_web();
        oList = oWeb.get_lists().getByTitle('Documents');
        fileCreateInfo = new SP.FileCreationInformation();
        fileCreateInfo.set_url("mywiki.aspx");
        fileCreateInfo.set_content(new SP.Base64EncodedByteArray());
        fileContent = "<%@ Page Inherits=\"Microsoft.SharePoint.Publishing.TemplateRedirectionPage,Microsoft.SharePoint.Publishing,Version=15.0.0.0,Culture=neutral,PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c\" %> <%@ Reference VirtualPath=\"~TemplatePageUrl\"
    %> <%@ Reference VirtualPath=\"~masterurl/custom.master\" %>";
        for (var i = 0; i < fileContent.length; i++) {
            fileCreateInfo.get_content().append(fileContent.charCodeAt(i));
        newFile = oList.get_rootFolder().get_files().add(fileCreateInfo);
        context.load(newFile);
        context.executeQueryAsync(function () {
            alert('yo');
        }, function (sender, args) {
            alert(args.get_message() + '\n' + args.get_stackTrace());
    If I change the file extension to "txt", it works.  Same with REST implementation, it works with "txt" but fails with "aspx".  Maybe what I am trying to do will not work using JSOM or REST.  Any suggestions?  Your
    help is always appreciated.
    Regards,
    kashif

    Your code works fine in both my on-premises and SharePoint Online. I have given the app full control, so I suspect this is a permissions issue. I would check your permissions on your appmanifest. Must be something to do with publishing permissions. Try
    giving full control and work the permissions down.

  • Duplicate columns created in Document Libraries

    Hi,
    We are having issues with duplicate columns being created in document libraries after copying/moving documents between libraries (SharePoint 2013):
    Unable to find any users with similar issues on forum
    Thanks in advance
    K

    Duplication has been sort of a thing for us as well. On our SP public site images will start duplicating themselves. I am not sure if it's because of different libraries running in the background, but it is very annoying.
    I'm not sure if these two cases are connected, but I thought I'd post so you knew you weren't alone in this strange behavior.

  • Get/retreive managed metadata column value from Document Library using SharePoint 2013 JSOM

    Hi,
    I am trying to retrieve managed metadata column (NewsCategory) value in SharePoint 2013 Document library using JSOM.
    I get "Object Object" rather than actual value.
    I tried:-
    var newsCat = item.get_item('NewsCategory');
    alert(newsCat) //Displays [Object Object]
    var newsCatLabel = newsCat.get_label();
    var newsCatId = newsCat.get_termGuid();
    But, I get the error "Object doesn't support property or method get_label()"
    I also tried :-
    var newsTags = item.get_item(' NewsCategory ');
    for (var i = 0; i < newsTags.get_count() ; i++) {
    var newsTag = newsTags.getItemAtIndex(i);
    var newsTagLabel = newsTag.get_label();
    var newsTagId = newsTag.get_termGuid();
    Even now I get the error "Object doesn't support property or method get_count()"
    I have included " NewsCategory " in the load request:- context.load(items, 'Include(File, NewsCategory)');
    Any idea what the issue is? Do I have to add any *.js file using $.getScript?
    I added following .js files
    var scriptbase = _spPageContextInfo.webServerRelativeUrl + "/_layouts/15/";
    $.getScript(scriptbase + "SP.Runtime.js", function () {

    Issue resolved replace "oListItem.get_item('NewsCategory');" with oListItem.get_item('NewsCategory').get_label();"
