Unable to disable autoroute in Data Modeler

Hi all,
I just downloaded the new latest version of SQLDeveloper for the MAC and can't seem to disable auto route so that I can adjust relationship lines.
I created a new Data Model and imported some tables, but can't adjust any of the FK relationship lines. When I right click on the diagram, the only options I have are a greyed out "Go to Diagram", and Model Properties. I tried going to Tools->Data Modeler->General Options, but couldn't find Auto Route there either.
Anyone have any suggestions? This is version 2.1.1.64 build MAIN-64.39, Data Modeler 2.0.0 build 584.

Hi Jeffi,
this is Data Modeler Viewer bundled in SQL Developer - it's restricted in its functionality. Here is full functional version http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/datamodeler/index.html
It's cost option.

  • Unable to see columns of Data Model in Template Builder for Word.

    Experts,
My customer has defined Data Model,
and when Ct is trying to insert fields into their documents,
the columns in the Data Model can't been seen in Template Builder for Word.
(in tool bar; Oracle BI Publisher > Insert > Field)
    The details is as follow;
    (Data Model)
    Name : TEST
    Type : SQL Query
    SQL Query : select case_id,case_name from TEST where case_id = :p_case_id and serious_flag = 'Y';
    'p_case_id' is taken from LOV.
    (sample data in TEST table)
    CASE_ID CASE_NAME SERIOUS_FLAG
    1 case1
    2 case2 N
    3 case3 Y
In this case, CASE_ID and CASE_NAME can't be seen in Template Builder.
    But we can see the columns when the sample data is as follow;
    CASE_ID CASE_NAME SERIOUS_FLAG
    1 case1 Y <-(*)
    2 case2 N
    3 case3 Y
I mean, the data of the first row (in this case, case_id=1) is hit by the SQL query,
we can see the columns in Template Builder.
I'd like to know whether it is an intended behavior.
    Regards.

    Hi,
I reformed the sample data in TEST table.
In this case, the columns in the Data Model can't been seen in Template Builder for Word.
    CASE_ID CASE_NAME SERIOUS_FLAG
    1 case1
    2 case2 N
    3 case3 Y
    But we can see the columns when the sample data is as follow;
    CASE_ID CASE_NAME SERIOUS_FLAG
    1 case1 Y &lt;=(*)
    2 case2 N
    3 case3 Y
In fact, when the data of the first row (in this case, case_id=1) is hit by the SQL query,
we can see the columns in Template Builder.
    Any information would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Excel 2013 PowerPivot Error - "PowerPivot is unable to load the Data Model"

I'm attempting to use the PowerPivot add-on in Excel.  When clicking 'Manage Data Model' or attempting to 'Load to data model,' I receive the error 'We couldn't load the Data Model.  This may be because the Data Model in this workbook is damaged.',
followed by 'PowerPivot is unable to load the Data Model.'  This happens irrespective of data source type.  I have Excel 2013 32-bit, PowerPivot 32-bit, running on Windows 7 OS 64-bit.  I am not running an SSAS instance on my machine.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi
Have you ever tried to repair your office?
Also we may refer to the following blog :

This issue seems to be caused by the October 2013 update (KB 2825655) for Excel 2013. Try to remove it or restore the system to an earlier point and check the result.

  • Unable to edit any old entity in Data Modeler

    Hi,
I have a strange problem with Data Modeler 2.0.0.584 on Win XP. If you came across similar issue, please let me know how you solved it.
I have a logical model created several weeks ago. I can open the model without any errors, but I am unable to edit any object - when I double click on entity or relationship, the text in the property window is grayed out and I cannot change anything. I cannot change entity properties, nor add/change attributes.
The strange thing is that I can create a new entity or relationship, but once the object is created I cannot edit it.
I have checked that all files in the model folder are set as read/write but it did not solve the problem. At this moment I have no idea what else to check.
Thanks for any suggestion or help.
    Regards,
    Jakub

    Thanks, that works!
    - save as into another directory
    - close Data Modeler
    - start Data Modeler
    - open the model from the new location
    - and voila! I can edit all the entities!

  • Unable to Create New Data Model

    Hello all,
I have been using BI publisher 11g for sometime but at best can be treated as a newbie. I was able to create New data models, reports, layouts etc till sometime ago.
Now when I try to create a New Data Model I get an error message saying
    Unable to load ~weblogic/usr/temp/xxxxxxxx.xdm
I click on Ok and create my data set using the SQL query.
Now when I try to generate a sample xml I get the following error message:
org.xml.sax.SAXParseException: : XML-20108: (Fatal Error) Start of root element expected.
I understand something has changed in the server but I cannot pin point what and where.
Any help will be highly appreciated.....
    Thanks,
    Geetesh

The JDK/Java that ODI using should be 64bit if ODI 11.1.1.6 is 64 bit.   (I think JDK 1.6 is recommended for this ODI version)
Also, for which technology you are creating a data server ? and what error message you are getting while creating it ?
    Thanks,

  • Data Modeler - how can I define a foreign key but disabled

I am using SQL Developer Data Modeler Version 2.0.0 Build 570 on Mac OS X (Snow Leopard).
When defining a foreign key constraint, is there a way to define it as disabled?
When the DDL script is generated, the constraint is defined but it is always enabled, I want it to be disabled.
This is possible in the Jdeveloper data modeler, but I am missing the method to do this in SQL Developer Data Modeler.
    Any help appreciated.

Disabling podcast cellular data from Podcasts settings does not work.

    1. I do not know if this will help you or not. In researching this issue with my wife's iPhone 5c 8GB, the most common answer you will get is to adjust this or that setting, and disable this or that App. These at best are only a band-aide solution at all. The best reply I got was from a Verizon Rep that stated "By design, iPhones do turn off WiFi when they go dormant. So if a download is in progress, or information is being back-up wirelessly and the phone goes dormant, it will switch to use cellular data if it is left on". Afterwards, I discovered the exact same information here on the Apple Support Forum to support this statement.
    2. Later onward, I read that if you keep your iPhone connected to a power source, it will prevent it from going dormant. In which case, this will prevent the iPhone from turning off the WiFi, and keep it connected to the WiFi. So far, this has help the most in controlling the amount of data usage being used, by my wife's iPhone.
    3. Now about looking at the detailed usage summary online, you can not go by it to see the exalt date/time stamp of the data usage. Because, by design the cell towers will collect and store certain data usage for up to a six-hours period. After the six-hour period, then the cell towers will release the stored data usage to the company's servers. And at that time, the collected data usage will be recorded on your detailed usage summary online. For a long time, I brainwork that I had caught Verizon with their hand in the cookie jar for say. Because I knew that we were not using data usage at these odd-ball hours of the night or day. Yet, now I have learn that this is just not the case.

  • Unable to create a connection in data modeler with oracle 9i

While creating a connection to my 9i db I am getting the following error
    Status : Failure -Test failed: oracle.i18n.text.converter.CharacterConverterOGS.getInstance(I)Loracle/i18n/text/converter/CharacterConverter;

    Hi,
This problem when importing from Data Dictionary can occur intermittently if you have the Oracle 9i or 10g database software installed on your computer.
Ivan provided a workaround in a previous message in this forum Re: Error when testing database connection :
Try to create a batch file (datamodeler.bat) under Data Modeler installation folder and put the following two lines in it:
    set ORACLE_HOME=%CD%
    start datamodeler.exe
Then double click on this file to start Data Modeler.

  • SQL Developer Data Modeler: Logical model, unable to create arc

I have a logical model in SQL Developer Data Modeler. Entity A has two 'incoming' foreign key relations to entities B and C. Both releations have the same optionality and cardinality. I want to place both relations in an arc. I see the buttons in my toolbar menu, but they are not enabled. Even when I select both relations it is not.
Bringing the logical model to the relational model creates foreign keys. These foreign keys can be selected and when I do that the 'Create new arc' button in the relational model toolbar is enabled.
What am I missing in the logical model ...? The documentation doesn't give a clue.
    Erik

Thanks Sue, that worked. It is different from the way the ERD in Designer worked. Is there any reasoning behind it. As far as I know you should only put into an arc two or more relationships pointing to the same entity with the same optionality and the same cardinality. Selecting the entity with the relationships can only help in identifying at which relationship end the arc should be created but that is obvious.
And asking the question is answering it: it will help in adding an arc to two or more entities originating and ending at the same entity (and same cardinality and optionality).
Is that the reasoning behind it?
    Regards
    Erik

  • Data Modeler unable to connect to DB

I am using OS/X 10.8.5.  I have SQL Developer and Instant Client 11.2 installed and working fine.
I have recently installed Oracle Data Modeler 3.3.0.747 and am trying to synchronize my model with the DB.
When I try and add a connection if I set the connection type to TNS (which works just fine in SQL Developer), it doesn't show any of my tnsnames.ora entries in the 'Network Alias' drop down.
So I instead tried creating a connection of type 'Basic'.  That _seemed_ to work OK - in that when I clicked 'Test' on the connection it returned success.  However when I tried to use that connection it returned immediately with the error 'Closed Connection'.
Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

Maybe you need to install Oracle instant client . I had something similar to what you describe - can't rememeber if it was exactly the same , but I (think) I fixed it that way

  • Data Refresh Error: We cannot locate a server to load the workbook Data Model.

    Hello,
Recently I have developed a PowerBI Report using Excel Workbook with external data source. It refreshes successfully for some days and then starts throwing error on every scheduled refresh as "We cannot locate a server to load the workbook Data

  • Problem connecting PowerPivot's (Office 2013) Data Model deployed on SharePoint 2013 to data source.

    Hello:
    Our configurations is as follow :  SharePoint 2013 is on Server A;  SQL Server Analysis server (SQL 2014) is on DB Server B;
SharePoint databases (sp_ ...) and our Data Mart (SQL 2014) are on server B. All servers runs Windows 2012 OS.
On my desktop I built a simple Excel 2013 workbook with PowerPivot Data Model that imported several tables from our Data Mart (server B above). Then created a Power View report. Locally everything works fine.
But when I uploaded this workbook to our SharePoint PowerPivot gallery and was trying to refresh data, I got the connection error: It’s very long but the ErrorCode is “rsCannotRetriveModel”. The end of the error message is:
    'TemporaryDataSource'.</Message><MoreInformation><Source>Microsoft.AnalysisServices.SPClient</Source>

Our Excel Services on the SharePoint work fine and refresh data on different excel workbooks (with no Data Model) just fine.  We are using an unattended account for Excel Services to connect from SharePoint server to our databases. Found a few references
on the topic, tried them but with no luck.
    Please advise!

    Hi Jeff,
Firstly, I need to confirm whether you are refreshing Data connection in browser, since Data Refresh is not supported in Office Web Apps. Please refer more information in this article:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/excel_services__powerpivot_for_sharepoint_support_blog/archive/2013/01/31/powerpivot-for-sharepoint-browser-refresh-fails-data-refresh-not-supported-in-office-web-apps.aspx
From the error "Call to Excel Services returned an error", please verify the location of the
data source, for example an Excel workbook, is registered as a trusted location with Excel Services:
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj219699(v=office.15).aspx
Since you are using unattended account for Excel Services to connect from SP to databases, I wonder if the issue occurs to unattended referesh, if so, please refer to:

  • Powerpivot 2013 doesn't work on Excel 2013 / Office 365: data model issue

    Hi guys
I recently upgraded my Office 2010 to Office 365, with Excel 2013. Before installing Office 365 I uninstalled Office 2010. I'm running Windows 8 64 bits.
I have the Powerpivot 2013 add-in, I can activate it without any issue. However when I click on "manage" on any spreadsheet (including new empty ones) I have an error "We
couldn't load the Data Model.  This may be because the Data Model in this workbook is damaged.", followed by "PowerPivot is unable to load the Data Model".
I tried to repair the installation to no avail. I tried to launch excel in admin mode, nothing better.
This issue seems to be shared by some other people on this forum but
with no satisfactory answer so far.
I had a SQL server 2012 plugin installed previously which I uninstalled as well, but no change.
Would you think of something else?

  • External Data Refresh Failed. We cannot locate a server to load the workbook Data Model. ThisWorkBookDataModel

    Hi All,
I have been trying to fix this for days now. I have tried solutions in many articles but to no avail. So while the error message is something you may have seen may times, I just can't find a solution in my case.
    This is the error:
And in text just in case the image isn't viewable:
"External Data Refresh Failed. We cannot locate a server to load the workbook Data Model. We were unable to refresh one or more data connections in this workbook. The following connections failed to refresh: ThisWorkBookDataModel."
What is worse is I have checked the ULS (SharePoint Trace Logs), the Event Viewer Logs and the OWA Logs and I cannot find a specific error that would help pin point the problem.
    Excel Workbook
So what am I doing? I have an Excel 2013 workbook and I create an "SQL Server" connection to the AdventureWorksDW database, add a pivot table and a pivot chart, test in in Excel and all works fine.
I save the Excel workbook to SharePoint 2013 and then select "Data" then "Refresh All Connections" and then I get the error in the picture above.
Even more puzzling is I have another Excel workbook that also has pivot tables and pivot charts in the AdventureWorksDW2012Multidimensional cube database in "SQL Analysis Services" and this works fine. Hmmm.
    My Environment
My environment is Windows 2008 R2 Server, SharePoint 2013 with the April Service Pack1 and a separate server with OWA2013 SP1. It has an SQL Server 2008 R2 database which has been upgraded to SQL Server 2012.
    Data Model Settings
In Excel Services this is set to my server name which is "server-name". As I do not have instances all I can enter is the server name. As this works everywhere else including the workbook outside of SharePoint I do not think this is the problem.
    But I could be wrong.
    Unattended Account
I have set this up for the PowerPivot Services App and Excel Services App.
    ODC Connections in Excel
I have tried all 3 authentication modes, Windows, Secure Store ID and "None" which is the unattended account. I have not tried the other connection types, should I?
    Not in WOPI
I am not in WOPI mode.
    AD Accounts
I have added permissions in the SharePoint Services and SQL Server, and as they work in Excel outside of SharePoint, I do not think it is a permissions issue. I could be wrong of course, but the problem is in one of SharePoint, OWA, AD,
SQL Server, Excel, and Windows Server.
    Isolate the Error
Below is a list of errors I think are relevant but they do not tell me much. The SharePoint logs are not really giving me an error that tells me what to do and where to do it, or even why it cannot refresh, (perhaps not noticeable by the untrained eye).
Problem with SQL Server Not Analysis Services
So my cube database in analysis services works fine in SharePoint/OWA but not the databases in sql server. This is my best clue but I have no idea what it means. Why would it work with an Analysis Services connection but not an "SQL Server" connection?
    It Works Outside of SharePoint
If I run the excel worksheet outside of SharePoint all works fine. When inside OWA this is where the refresh error occurs.
Errors from Event Viewer on SharePoint Server using ULS Viewer
"Failed to create an external connection or execute a query. Provider message: There are no servers available or actively being initialized., ConnectionName: , Workbook:"
"Refresh failed for 'ThisWorkbookDataModel' in the workbook 'http://server...'. [Session: 1.V22.26itT0lx8piNFeqtuGVhN214.5.en-US5.en-US36.98c0e158-9113-46e9-850e-edda81d9ed1c1.A1.N User: 0#.w|ad\testuser1]"
And an error in the ULS under the "Data Model" category:
"--> Check Deployment Mode (server-name): Fail (Expected: SharePoint, Actual: Multidimensional)."
This last error, as it turned out, defined the problem concisely, although I was yet to work out what it meant in some detail.

I finally solved this myself (or should I say with the help of several key articles).
The refresh did not work because the database was not in "SharePoint Mode". Yes, SQL Server has modes, 3 of them in fact.
If you installed SharePoint to the default SQL instance which would be called <servername> then you cannot use this default instance for Excel 2013 workbooks in OWA 2013 because the refresh only works if the database is in SharePoint mode.
So what are these 3 modes? The Deployment Mode property in the msmdsrv.ini file has them as:
0 = Multidimensional mode (the default whenever you install SQL Server normally)
1 = PowerPivot for SharePoint mode
    2 = Tabular mode mode
How do you know what mode you are in? That's easy, open SQL Studio Manager and connect to all your SQL database engine instances (ignore Analysis Services or SSRS as they are not database engines). If you only have the default instance then that is almost
definately in Multidimensional mode which is the default and what SharePoint installs its databases to.
You must have an instance called <servername>\POWERPIVOT. This instance is the "sharepoint mode" needed, and the default instance name when you install an SQL instance in this mode.
If you don't see <servername>\POWERPIVOT in SQL server then you are not in "sharepoint mode". It is more accurate to say, you do not have an instance that is in sharepoint mode. This is because you cannot simply switch modes on an SQL server.
You have to install a new instance in the required mode, thats the only way.
That's easy enough. Load up the SQL Server setup CD and run setup. Install a brand new instance and select "SQL Server PowerPivot for SharePoint" when you get there in the wizard.
Now you will have the default instance that stores all the SharePoint databases and that is in mode 0, and a new instance called <servername>\POWERPIVOT that is in mode 1. The "<servername>\POWERPIVOT" instance connection is what you
will use for Excel 2013 when rendering in OWA 2013.
You also need to ensure OWA 2013 is not in WOPI mode for Excel worksheets. See the last link below for more information about WOPI.
Next you should go to the Excel Service App in CA and click Data Model Settings and add the <servername>\POWERPIVOT instance.
Then you have to either turn off the firewall on the SQL server machine, or create an inbound rule on the Windows firewall to open the TCP port for the <servername>\POWERPIVOT instance:
    1. Start Task Manager and then click Services to get the PID of the MSOLAP$InstanceName.
    2. Run netstat –ao –p TCP from the command line to view the TCP port information for that PID.
Finally, you can now create Excel 2013 workbooks that run in OWA without refresh errors, as long as you are connecting to the <servername>\POWERPIVOT instance. Hooray.
