Unable to import oracle 9.2 data to oracle 10.2
Dear all,
part of the upgrade project i am facing this problem.
I have taken DBEXPORT from 4.6C(EXT kernel),oracle 9.2.7 and the same i want to import it on 4.6C,oracle10.2.2.(already 4.6C on oracle 10.2.2 is there on another system)
when i try to import through DBRELOAD it's showing list of supported database versions as Oracle 8.1.7 and oracle 9.2 only. it's not showing oracle 10.2 (both in DBRELOAD as well DBMIG).
I want to import the oracle 9.2 databse into existing 10.2 datbase.
how to proceed on this.. kindly help me on this
Thanks & regards

Hi Markus,
I have raised the same question, that if I want to do the import with the same version of oracle, how can I carry the procedure. I have exported the database, through GUI-- Newinst--> Export Database...( 4th option of the main installation)
Export is done. Created some 9 folder adn 1 LABEL.ASC file..
Now as suggested by you in my thread of " Export/import" I am trying to import with the option u suggested( standard install..and then 2 option of System Copy/Migration". But after following all that, when the installation is asking for " Migration CD. LABEL.ASC, I have given what was exported. But gives the error.SAying DBSIZE.XML could find in ORA folder. When checked the export folders, there is only 1 DBSIZE.XML folder, that to ADA folder....
Please suggest??

Oracle Replication - Encrypted Data and Oracle Data Guard
We are working on a high availability architecture for one of our new projects. The preliminary architecture has Oracle 10g Release 2(10.2.0.2) production database (primary database) running on Solaris10 server for OLTP operations. And a production replicated database (standby database) is running on another node running on Solaris10 server for reporting, ETL data extractions etc. The plan is to implement Oracle data guard (DG) to replicate data between primary database and standby database (logical standby database). As a side note, there is going to be one to two minute time log for data synchronization between primary and standby databases.
We need to encrypt sensitive data (like SSN, Credit Card No. etc) in the primary production database. Initially we thought this can be achieved by using Oracle Transparent Data Encryption (TDE), this is a new encryption method Oracle came up with their 10g version. But the issue here is Oracle TDE doesnt support setting up the logical standby database (using Oracle data Guard) for reporting on the second node. I have confirmed with Oracle on this, so we are kind of stuck in the middle on this new requirement. So our next option is to look out for any third party vendors who can resolve this puzzle, and looking for your help for any suggestions.
· Do you know any vendor who can support both data encryption and data replication for Oracle databases?
· Do you know any vendor who can support just data encryption for Oracle databases?
(I am thinking if we can find a vendor, we would like to ask them if they have any technical issues working with Oracle data guard for data replication and use some kind of technique to decrypt the data on the standby/reporting database.)You can always use the DBMS_CRYPTO or DBMS_OBFUSCATION_TOOLKIT to encrypt the data rather than using TDE. You may have to do some work on the key management side, though, but it shouldn't be too painful.

Edited by: DBS on Feb 9, 2012 10:21 PMHi,
I found the problem.It was because of the connection string.The format was different for oracle tables.
PFB the format
*cnss.open"Provider=OraOLEDB.Oracle.1;Data Source= servername:port/SID;Database= DB;User Id=aaaa;Password=aaaa;"*
And thanks *SH* for quick response.
So closing the thread......

How to I convert data from oracle database into excel sheet
how to I convert data from oracle database into excel sheet.
I need to import columns and there datas from oracle database to microsoft excel sheet.
Please let me know the different ways for doing this.
Thanks.asktom.oracle.com has an excellent article on writing a PL/SQL procedure that dumps data to an Excel spreadsheet-- search for 'Excel' and it'll come up.
You can also use your favorite connection protocol (ODBC, OLE DB, etc) to connect from Excel to Oracle and pull the data out that way.

How to truncate oracle.jbo.domain.date
Hi,
I have problem to convert oracle.jbo.domain.date. Now I got current date from pagecontext, but it is yyyy-mm-dd hh:mi:ss format. I want to only yyyy-mm-dd, so I want to truncate the time from oracle.jbo.domain.date. And I want to got Date object not string. I found there is Date.truncate(), but I don't know how to use it.
Could some one to help to give me a example?
Best Regards,
EileenAfter spandig a lot of time with this I have found that the method is not implemented!!!
Use this:
public static oracle.jbo.domain.Date trunc(oracle.jbo.domain.Date dt,String fmt) {
java.text.SimpleDateFormat sdf = new java.text.SimpleDateFormat(fmt);
String s= sdf.format(dt.getValue());
java.sql.Timestamp ts;
try {
ts = new java.sql.Timestamp(sdf.parse(s).getTime());
dt=new oracle.jbo.domain.Date(ts);
} catch (ParseException e) {
return dt;
}To trunc to hours use format e.g. "dd.MM.yyyy HH"

Unable to Connect Oracle 7 with Data Services 3.2
Hi All,
I am incredibly facing an issues with Oracle 7 connecting with Data Services 3.2. with Native client drivers (TNS Names).
The client legacy application is on Oracle 7, they are moving the data from legacy to SAP ECC. My role is to transfer the data from Oracle 7 to SAP ECC, We are using Data Services 3.2 for conversion. This Data Services 3.2 is not connecting with Oracle 7 by using oracle native drivers (TNS Names).
I am able to connect Oracle 8 client with SQL *Plus, but with Data Services its not connecting, I am able create Data Store but when try to import the table the error message I am getting like "ORA-24316: Illegal handle Type"
Is there any other solution for this to connect, or Is Data Services 3.2 will not connect to Oracle 7 since its older version.
Please reply with your thoughts, or with some solution.
Appreciate your prompt reply. Many thanks.Hi Paul,
Currently I am using ODBC connection to read the data from legacy Oracle7, but ODBC is very very slow, queries are taking hours to fetch the data. Is there any other solution by chance... I read that DataDirect is the one can connect to any versions of oracle and its bit faster, is that true. Please clarify me. If that is the solution where can I get this DataDirect drivers for oracle 7? Please advice me.
Thank You,

Writing a stored procedure to import SQL Server table data into a Oracle table
Hello,
As a new DBA I have been tasked with writing a stored procedure to import SQL Server table data into an Oracle table. I have been given many suggestions on how to do it from SQL Server but I I just need to write a stored procedure to run it from the Oracle side. Suggestions/guidance on where to start would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
I started to write it based on what I have but I know this is not correct :/
# Here is the select statement for the data source in SQL Server...
SELECT COMPANY
,CUSTOMER
,TRANS_TYPE
,INVOICE
,TRANS_DATE
,STATUS
,TRAN_AMT
,CREDIT_AMT
,APPLD_AMT
,ADJ_AMT
,TRANS_USER1
,PROCESS_LEVEL
,DESCRIPTION
,DUE_DATE
,OUR_DATE
,OUR_TIME
,PROCESS_FLAG
,ERROR_DESCRIPTION
FROM data_source_table_name
#It loads data into the table in Oracle....
Insert into oracle_destination_table_name (
COMPANY,
CUSTOMER,
TRANS_TYPE,
INVOICE,
TRANS_DATE,
STATUS,
TRANS_AMT,
CREDIT_AMT,
APPLD_AMT,
ADJ_AMT,
TRANS_USER1,
PROCESS_LEVEL,
DESCRIPTION,
DUE_DATE,
OUR_DATE,
OUR_TIME,
PROCESS_FLAG,
ERROR_DESCRIPTION)
END;CREATE TABLE statements would have been better as MS-SQL and Oracle don't have the same data types.
OUR_DATE, OUR_TIME will (most likely) be ONE column in Oracle.
DATABASE LINK
Personally, I'd just load the data over a database link:
insert into oracle_destination_table_name ( <column list> )
select ... <transform data here>
from data_source_table@mssql_db_link
As far as creating the database link from Oracle to MS-SQL ... that is for somebody else to answer.
(most likely you'll need to use an ODBC driver)
EXTERNAL TABLE
If the data from MS-SQL is in a CSV file, just use and external table.
same concept:
insert into oracle_destination_table_name ( <column list> )
select ... <transform data here>
from data_source_external_table

Problem in importing data in oracle 10g from 9i backup
Hi ,
Am trying to import data in oracle 10g..but it does not importing constraints, and stop doing anything by the msg.
About to enable constraints.....
after this msg it does not work.
plz help,
Regards,
NehaHi Neha,
You have a lot of options. I'll supose you can test first, and you're using an export file.
First forget about the data, think in your database structure. So you can do this:
exp userid=... file=exp_norows.dmp full=y rows=n statistics=none
Now you have the structure of your database. Create the database, in 10g, empty, check you have all filesystem, etc. for you new datafiles. And do the import with parameter ignore=y, you'll see a lot off errors on SYSTEM schema, don't worry about it.
Now you have the structure of you database in 10g. You can take a look in the import log file, looking for some possible errors come from your schemas. so check the objects, and check the schemas.
Bear in mind things like CONNECT role in 9i it's different in 10g, you can't create db_links in 10g with "IDENTIFIED BY VALUES" because you'll get an ORA-00600, etc.
Well, fix all problems on source database (9i) and repeate this procedure until you don't recieve any more errors (not a SYSTEM schema errors).
When you have everything solved, you can try to import the data.
I hope, this method can help you. If you have any problem do not hesitate to ask me.
