Unable to javac programs with Windows ME! Help!

Help! I can't find a solution for this problem anywhere on Sun's website. I know others have had this problem, yet none of the comments I found work.
I'm simply trying to javac a simply program from within a MS-DOS window, but I get the error message "THIS PROGRAM CANNOT BE RUN IN DOS MODE". My path variable is set correctly (to C:\WINDOWS;C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND;C:\J2SDK1.4.1\BIN) AND the "Prevent MS-DOS-based programs from detecting Windows" box is UNchecked. I've restarted my computer and I still have the same problem.
I'm starting to think I should just stick with VB. If you live in the Denver area, I'll even pay you to help me out with this problem.

access to commands. Once I opened up a text file
program and tried to javac it (via the tools menu) I
received a dialog box "The system cannot find the file
specified". The header of that dialog box was
"C:\Windows\javac.exe". I'm guessing it's looking in
the wrong place dispite the fact that my path is
"C:\WINDOWS;C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND;C:\J2SDK1.4.1\BIN".
Thoughts on what I'm missing?

And I have been using TextPad since version 3.5 and JDK 1.2
First you could try copying the files to c:\windows\
Or you could download JavaOne aka Forte4Java
But tats a heavy load on the system if you have a slow computer it has its own compiler but I haven't been able to run applications with Forte....Only applets.

Unable to share files with Windows

I have followed the instructions on my iMac to a "T", but am unable to share files with the wireless laptop on my network. The ethernet-wired pc can see the iMac fine and does not have to use a password to view the shared files. I must be doing something wrong with passwords - can someone please help? Thanks!

What version of Windows are you running on the other machines? XP, Vista, 7, 8 or 8.1? EDIT: Scratch that - I just saw that it is a Windows 7 PC from the subject!!! (DOH!).
Are your Windows computers on a domain, or are they running as a WORKGROUP?
When you say that you can't connect to the network, does this mean that you are having trouble connecting to file shares?
What are you seeing when you attempt to connect? Any error messages? Or is it simply failing to accept the login credentials and shaking the dialog box at you?

Using Runtime.getRuntime().exec(DOS Program) with Windows 2000.

I am trying to spawn a DOS Program from within Java.
On Win95/98/ME, I use
Process     p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec("START /w command.com con /c myDOSProgram.exe");
This works on these platforms. On Win 2000, I use
Process     p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec("START /w cmd.exe con /c myDOSProgram.exe");
It does not work at all.
I have tried all combinations of using START, cmd.exe, con /c, etc.
I can spawn a Windows App using
Process     p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec("windows.exe");
And it works fine.
What does it take to spawn a DOS program from Java on the Windows 2000 op sys?

I am having problem syncing my 8330 (Sprint) with Windows Vista and eventually Outlook 2007. The software that came with the phone is not compatible. Any suggestions are very appreciated.

Icannot open any programs with fir fox -help

I cannot open anything with firefox. I tried to uninstall it so I could download again,, but I couldn't uninstall as it said I had to close flirefox before proceeding. As I did not have it open and I kept getting the same message I was unable to proceed. Can you help.

To clarify: the desktop icons have the Mozilla firefox icon and all the .exe files in windows explore also have the Mozilla firefox icon.

Unable to install iTunes with Windows 8.1

Last month, iTunes was working great and then it said it was incompatible with my computer. Due to this, I was forced to uninstall the program. Now when I try to reinstall iTunes, it rolls back the install and says: "iTunes installer complete. Errors occured during the installation before iTunes could be configured. Your system has not been modified. To complete the installation, run the installer again." If I run the installer again, the same message will come up. I would like to sync my phone! Please help!!!

Are you downloading iTunes from the following site? http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Are you running it or saving it when you press the download button? If you were pressing download, then choosing run. Try it again but this time press save, and save to desktop.
You can also attempt to download iTunes with a different browser as well. Some example of free browsers for Windows below

Solaris 10 with Windows 2000 HELP!

I'm having a terrible time with Solaris 10 installation and configuration.
I installed W2k on a NTFS partition. I shrinked the partiton with Partition Magic so I have enough place for Solaris.
I installed Solaris using the rest of the disk space and completed sucessfully.
The system then asked me where I want to boot and I said W2K. Once I went to W2K I found that my DVD-Rom wasn't recognized. Also, I couldn't run Partition Magic as it was giving me a message about partition table is corupt.
Then on the next boot I could not for the life of me get into Solaris. There was no choice anymore.
Can someone please help me with this issue? I'm trying like crazy for weeks now and all I need is some kind of step-by-step help if possible.

Resizing a Windows partition assumes that this partition has to be defragmented before. Furhter in nearly every cases I know Windows has always to be installed at first operating system. It is a good advice when the amount of primary partitons on one HD are not more then four at all, specially when Windows is on it. This number is quickly reached because Solaris needs as I know three primary partitions for itselfs. Installing further operating systems after Windows, Windows losts its attribut as master partition. That means Windows might be not recognized any more. The problems increase by resizing partitions. Unfortunately Soraris does not support realy the usage with several operating systems on one HD and its tools on board are very purely.
There are two strategies to solve the problem: First I would delete Solaris from the HD so Windows is the first Operatin System and starts well, again. Then size the Windows partion after defragmenting as you want. Afterwards make a boot disk from Windows. Then I would install Solaris, but the Grub Loader I would install on a floppy disk and not on the HD to avoid Solaris from writing in the master boot record. Finally you need a boot loader that starts from a floppy disk. Such boot loaders can be found at Internet or from Linux.
My second strategy is, depends on the size of the HD, to install a very small Linux patition at the last operating system. The Linux boot loader LILO can manage several operating systems on the one HD very well.
My advice to Sun: Look what competitors operating systems can do nowadays and learn now. Talk to your customers what they need. Don�t wait for the next 30 years.

LV Program with Windows Rights

ok so i have this issue,
where a program i made will run on a windows network admin accout (ENG) but I also have another admin account (PCK) on the network with the same rights on the same pc. the LV file is the same for both network users however when i run the Program on the ENG account it works perfect, but when i run the same program on the PCK account it gives me a "File not found error" that i will post once i am able (They read in machine setup from identical .ini files located on the C:\ Drive)
so -rights are the same, mapped drives are the same, setup files and depenencies are the same, Programs are the same. and at one point both these accounts worked with this same program. Any ideas what changed or may have caused this and how to fix it?

Just solved the issue, after resetting all rights for both networked users and a bunch of other things it turns out that some how the floor added a "2" to part of the shortcut in windows.

I am unable to use Firefox with Windows 7 64 bit. I've tried everything I can think of!

I have Window 64 bit installed on my HP laptop. It came with Vista but I upgraded to Windows 7. Firefox will not work properly now. I have installed the right version from the Mozzilla website and disabled all add-ons. Still wont display any pages properly when I open the browser. Any ideas? I've done malware scans, anti-virus scans and come up with nothing.

Here is a solution that worked for a user who also had a problem with iTunes Software Support. This thread was for a win32 version, but Maybe this is the problem for both of you?:
IT appears that AppleApplicationSupport.msi, is not opening and installing properly.
Download and SAVE iTunesSetup.exe, where you can find it.
Then:
1. Download and install WinRAR.
2. Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe icon and choose "Open with WinRAR".
3. Once the EXE is opened in WinRAR, double-click AppleApplicationSupport.msi and when the installer window is open choose "Repair".
4. Done! You can now run iTunes normally.

Unable to connect laptop with Windows 2000

I have Lynksys router WRT54G. I have 3 laptops in house connecting to internet with no problem. A new person has moved in with a laptop that has windows 2000. The new person is not able to get an internet connection. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The Win2K was wirelessly accessing the internet previously to moving here. This laptop has MA 251 net gear wireless modem card that sticks out of the side. Owner got this laptop several years ago when she was in the Army.
The Win2K cannot see the other 3 laptops.
Sorry but I don't know the answer to your 3rd question.
Linksys service rep suggested maybe needing ethernet cable to get the Win2K connected.

File sharing with Windows 7 -- help!

My wife is running Windows 7. I would like her to be able to view the Photos folder which I keep on my Mac. I am able to get my computer to show up under her network. However, I can't seem to get to a screen that requires her to login to see the folder. Right now, I have the folder set up to be viewed by "everyone." I'd like to restrict access so that she has to log in to see the folder. I've created an account for her in the accounts pane of my system preferences. However, her Windows machine never prompts to log in. We can see the public folder just fine, but photos will only show up if I share photos with "everyone." How can I configure it so that only she can see the folder?

Thanks ... this article lays out everything that I was able to do, but something still is not working correctly. When I am sitting at the Windows machine, I can see my Macintosh. And I can open the "Public" folder. But I can't see the "Pictures" folder, even though I've turned on sharing for that folder and created an account for my wife. Windows never asks me to log in to anything or supply a password. So despite the step in the article which reads "To control access user by user, click the plus-sign button at the bottom of the Users section and either select each person from your Address Book or click the New Person button and enter a name and password there," I'm never asked to give the password on the Windows side.

i have been trying to chat with a friend that has the windows vista OS. it brings up the same communication error every time. whether i invite her or she invites me. i'm not sure if its on her end or mine. i can chat with other ichat users but not with AIM users. if you can tell me the settings for both windows and mac that'd be great. and i don't want to use Skype.

are you just chatting or trying to video chat?
if you are.. ichat is not compatible for that.
