Unable to mount exfat after updating: libutils-linux 2.25-3?

Hi everyone!
I have just updated my system and libutils-linux has been upgraded to version 2.25-3 from version 2.24.2-1.
The problem is:
after the update, I could not mount my exfat device: some errors occur.
In details:
1- The device is a Truecrypt encrypted usb pen and the partition is formatted with exfat.
2- The problem is not Truecrypt itself since I have no problems on decrypting my usb pen. The problem occurs when trying to mount /dev/mapper/truecryptx.
3- Since device-mapper has been upgraded (to version 2.02.108-1 from 2.02.106-2) as well, at the beginning, I thought that the problem was due to the new release of device-mapper. But this is not the case since the problem also occurs after downgrading device-mapper to the previous version. Moreover, on second thought, I realized that everything is with device-mapper for my system is luks encrypted.
4- The error message is:
mount: wrong fs type bad option bad superblock
missing codepage or helper program or other error
5- I am pretty sure the problem is exfat+libutils. Indeed, I have no such problems after downgrading to version 2.24.2-1.
Plus, I do not experience any of these troubles when mounting the same device on the other laptop of mine. The latter is again an Arch Linux system and it is configured the same way the former is (e.g., same kernel), except the fact that I did not updated it (this means that the version of libutils-linux is still 2.24.2-1).
6- To be honest, I could not try to mount any other filesystem (apart ext4 and btrfs, which are installed on both my laptops) simply because I only have (external) devices formatted with exfat.
So,
is it a bug, or am I missing something?
Thank you in advance for any comment or advice.
Best,
and-bnk

Strange, my bug has been marked as a duplicate but doesn't seem the same to me.
Here are the journalctl and udisks outputs with the different version of libutils-linux:

  • Unable to restore backup after updating iphone 4, because "not enough free space"

I updated my iphone 4 to v7 via itunes (v12), and in doing so, my camera roll was erased as were most of my calendar events.  I am trying to restore the backup that I created just before updating, but I get an error message in itunes that says "itunes could not restore the iphone" because "not enough free space".  There is 2.5gb free on my iphone, and I created the backup just before updating so there should be plenty of room.  Does anyone know how to get the iphone to restore and/or how to put my pics & calendar back?  itunes hangs up at the end while syncing too...

Oh well, for you working wireless is probably more important than experimentation. I'll need to find myself a machine with new-ish broadcom wireless to play with . I only briefly had one a few months ago.
    I guess I am still using b43 firmware (aur/b43-firmware).
It goes like this: Broadcom cards use special communication busses. In your case bcma; the other is ssb, it's used by older Broadcom cards. The kernel has bcma and ssb drivers to support these busses and it has the b43 driver for the wireless chips. So bcma+b43 (or ssb+b43) gives you working wireless. b43 is a reverse engineering effort, because in the past Broadcom was very non-opensource. But then Broadcom released their own opensource driver - brcmsmac. So now there's two drivers in the kernel supporting the same cards: bcma+b43 and brcmsmac. You have to blacklist either one or the other.
Thank you for clearing things up... wiki material?
I am marking this as solved.

  • Unable to open itunes after update

unable to open itunes after update

I had a user with the same issue after updates and I was able to resolve.
    I copied QTMovieWin.dll from:  C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support
    to: C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes
I did so after uninstalling and re-installin, but I don't beleive that was necesssary.  Thanks to user thurdy.  This fix was from apple support for the error "iTunes stopped working".  Figured I'd give a shot and it ended up working.
For reference the user was receiving the following errors exactly:
"the procedure entry point ?fastfree@***@@YAXPAX@Z could not be located in the dynamic link library JavaScriptCore.dll"
    and
"iTunes was not installed correctly.  Please reinstall iTunes.  Error 7 (Windows error127)"

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Unfortunally I would recommend a factory reset of the device
You cant uninstall Ovi Maps 3.06, and if you get a system error its usually the software that isnt installed properly somehow.
If you dont already got it, download and install Nokia Ovi Suite from www.nokia.com/ovisuite
Start Ovi Suite and follow the guide to connect your phone.
Do a Backup of your phones content via Tools -> Backup (in Ovi Suite)(Be aware that e-mail accounts and programs might not be in the backup)
    Disconnect phone from computer
On the phone press Call, then typ *#7370#
Phone will restart.(This will remove your personal content from Phone memory and Mass memory)
Set time and Date (and timezone) correctly on the phone.
    Connect phone to Ovi Suite.
In Ovi Suite choose Tools -> Restore.
Restore your backup (I would advice you to not restore 'settings')
Try and download latest Ovi Maps via Ovi Store in phone.

  • External HD's won't mount (& more) after update to 10.3.9

I updated from OS 10.3.2 to 10.3.9 using the Apple updater utility. After the update, external hard drives won't mount unless they are on when I boot up the computer.
Also music cd's won't mount, but data cd's do. The only way I can eject the music cd's is to shut the computer down or use Toast in copy mode. For some reason Toast can "see" the cd.
Also I was running Firefox 1.5.0.7 and Mozilla 1.7.13 when I updated. Now Firefox and Mozilla won't open. I had them in the dock and now clicking on them gets a question mark. I tried downloading Firefox 2. and when I double click the .dmg file I get a warning box saying that the disk image failed to mount because of "error 536870208". I get the same error message when I try and open the .dmg files for the older versions.
Do I need to wipe the hard drive and reinstall everthing? I hope not.
    Thanks for any help,
    John R

No. DVD's mount and work fine. Music cd's are the only ones that won't mount, and they don't get kicked out. They just sit in the machine. They are not damaged when I do get them out.

  • Unable to boot Powerbook after updating to 10.4.9

    Hi Folks,
Really hope someone can help me. I have a 12 inch Powerbook , G4, 1.5 GHz. 1.25 Gb RAM, 100 Gb hard drive, Superdrive, running OS X 10.4 Tiger.
I purchased the machine in mid 2005 and have had no problem reunning it. The computer came with OS X 10.4.0 installed. I have regularly updated it as Software Update recommends.
Several days ago, the computer crashed while using Safari to browse the internet. When I attempted to reboot I prgresed through the grey screen with the spinning cog to the Mac OS X startup screen and ended up freezing at a blank blue screen with a mouse curser. After much fiddling around with Disk Utility and the install disk's I was able to re-install 10.4.0 from the disk and eventually got the machine restarted. It was slow and regularly crashed whenever I ran programs, especially sofware update. I manually downloaded the OS X 10.4.9 combo update for Power PC and installed it. Was very slow going and hung up at the end for a long time but eventually seemed to work and the computer reset but froze at the grey screen. Since then I have been unable to progress past the initial grey screen with the apple logo. No spinning cog, no blue screen. I am unable to start it in safe mode, single user mode, verbose mode or even pressing down C to get to the disk utility. When I restart it with the installation disk in the drive, I am able to get to the install menu and run disk utility from there but it has a disk management tool error when attempting to verify or repair definitions. Repair Disk says there are no errors. I have reinstalled 10.4.0 from the disk three times but no change. I have about 2Gb of space free and the rest is filled with stuff I really don't want to delete. Plus I can't get access to the hard drive to delete things anyway.
Any suggestions? Safe mode doesn't work, Verbose or single user dont work, disk utilities don't help and I don't have another Mac I can do a Targeted restart from. Prefer not to do an erase and install as I'll lose 93 Gb worth of files.

No backup, mate? Tsk, tsk. Now that I got that out of the way, on to the problem.
First thing to try is zapping the PRAM: restart, holding down the CMDOPT+PR keys until you get at least three bongs, then let go.
Boot the machine with the Apple Hardware Test disk that came with the machine and run the extended tests. If the machine passes those, boot the machine normally and see if that fixes things.
If these don't work, I strongly suggest getting an external FireWire HD, boot with the install disks, use Disk Utility to format the HD, selecting Mac OS Extended, click on Options, select zero out data, and click on the erase button. When that's finished, install Tiger onto it, and see if it successfully boots the machine.
Enough for now, that should keep you busy for awhile. Come back with what works or doesn't work. Time to hit the sack.

  • Won't mount CD after update!!!

I usually resist (this is one good example why) updating when they show up.
Now after installing itunes, quicktime security update 2007-002/003, burned CDs will not show up on desktop AT ALL.
When I insert a new unburned CD, it asks for a title and that's the last it's seen.
Disk utility sees it, but won't mount it; only eject it.
This is really a BIG PAIN!! Thanks Apple!!
Our other macmini NOT updated works fine still.
Anyone know how to uninstall the undates? or fix this PLEEEEESE?
    MacMini 1.25 MacMini   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    thanks,
I did the permission update; now it's worse.
before it would ask me for a name for the blank cd; now it autopilot opens iTunes but no CD shows anywhere.
When I go to disk utility, viewing blank CD says:
"Write Ability : Read Only (CD-R)
    Any ideas?
    thanks

  • Unable to use ethernet after updating to OS X 10.10.2

I updated my Mac Mini (late 2012) yesterday from OS X 10.10.1 to OS X 10.10.2.
After I updated, I noticed that under Networks in System Preferences, OS X indicated that I had a cable unplugged for my ethernet connection.
I checked the cable and even replaced it.
This did not fix the issue.
I tried rebooting a few times and ethernet seemed to become available, but if I used it, after a few minutes the system would seize up and reboot on its own.
This did not fix the issue.
I've deleted my location profile (under Network in System Preferences), shut down my Mac Mini, booted back up and tried creating a new location profile, but there is no longer an "Ethernet" interface available to add to my new location profile. I do however have both a "Thunderbolt Bridge" and "Thunderbolt 1" option in the list of available interfaces. I think this is a bug, because when I try to add the "Thunderbolt 1" interface, it doesn't appear in the list of interfaces for my current location.
This did not fix the issue.
I've re-installed OS X 10.10.2 twice using the full installer downloaded from the Mac App Store: once from the Mac Mini itself, and once from a USB I created.
This did not fix the issue.
My Wi-Fi connection works fine, but ethernet is no longer available.
If I shut down my Mac Mini and try to boot manually with the ethernet cable connected, sometimes it will refuse to boot, or will boot but will stay stuck on the grey boot screen with no Apple logo and no progress bar visible.
    How can I re-enable ethernet?

    Update:
For no apparent reason that I can think of, I began having connectivity issues over Wi-Fi; but only with certain applications such as Safari, Mac App Store, Google Drive, and Steam. Google Chrome was completely unaffected. I was also able to use Microsoft Remote Desktop over LAN without issue, and the Windows computer I would connect to didn't experience any internet connectivity issues.
Not sure why this was happening, I restarted.
After a few minutes following the restart, OS X froze like it used to before.
    I reset the SMC.
The system would keep freezing after a few minutes.
I booted into safe mode and saw the Ethernet interface was now again listed under Networks.
I then restarted and tried to begin the AHT, but the system freezes completely after a few minutes every time I start testing.
I gave up trying to perform the AHT and booted normally.
The system would keep freezing after a few minutes.
So I eventually gave up and had to delete the Ethernet interface from Networks.
Now OS X doesn't freeze, but I'm back to only using Wi-Fi again.
None of this fixed the issue.
