Unable to move or rename files on WebDAV shares

I have not been able to get WebDAV shares to work properly on Lion.
Let's say I have a "User" that has given ownership to a WebDAV folder named "Share". I can connect to my WebDAV share using Finder at "https://website.com/webdav" and I can successfully read files and folders in "Share". I can also delete and create files in "Share". But whenever I try to move or rename a file or folder I get a dialog with error code -43, complaining the "item required cannot be found". I got the same error on machines running both 10.6.8 and 10.7.2.
I tried login with "User" with SSH and confirmed that I was indeed able to move/rename folder in the "Share" directory but just unable to do so using WebDAV. Any ideas? Thanks!

@A
Is it a normal behavior in the Web-DAV protocoll?
@ctrld
As I read you aliased the folder to a folder inside the user folder "/Users/username/Sync"?
How can i realize it with a shared folder for uploading and downloading file with multiple users?

Does Firefox switch to full screen if you press F11 ?
You can also try the F10 key to see if that brings up the menu bar.

  • Can't move or rename files on outboard hard drive with bridge cs3

I have a new computer operating with
vista 64 bit os and an outboard drive with my pic
tures.  Bridge says I don't have permission to move or rename the files but I can open the
m and copy them.  I have to go into windows
to physically delete or move files.

It is a permissioning thing with Windows on external drives, that and speed, are reasons internals are much prefered.  I have found that if I right click on the Bridge start icon and chooose "run as administrator" it will work.
I know this sounds strange on a single use machine where you have administrative rights, but just what I found that worked for me.

  • Stopping OS X from including "._" files on WebDav shares

We are working with the content system in the new Blackboard 7.1 and are running into an issue. Whenever you copy or save a file from a Mac to the WebDav share, it also copies the "._" resource fork file (like it should since WebDav cannot handle resource forks).
My question is, how do you stop OS X from splitting the file into two? Can you? It is very confusing to our faculty to have two instances of the same file when viewing the Content Manager via Blackboard. Plus it just doubles the file listing and can get big rather quickly.
Advise? Anyone else run into this issue?

I run a webdav server hosted on a mac so I don't experience this problem.
I do experience this issue when copying files from a mac to a windows sharepoint so I guess your webdav shares are running on a windows pc.
have you tried zipping files or enclosing them inside a disk image (.dmg) this fixes the problems when I copy files so an external fat32 formatted drive that I use on pc's as well as macs.

  • Can't compress files on webdav share using Finder

    Hi to all!
I have webdav share (server is on FreeBSD) connected to my MBP. I can read, write, delete files on this share but when I try to compress file on this share (rightclick on file and select "Compress" in menu) I allways get an error popup: "The operation can't be completed because the disk if full." with "zip" icon on it. I know that disk isn't full.
    How to fix this?

as a workaround I use Automator script "Junecloud Automator Actions" to make clean archive

  • Lightroom will not move or rename files!

Whenever I try to move a photo (i.e. drag it into a new folder) or rename a folder in the library module I get an error message.  The error message when I try to move a file says "There was an error copying files to the destination you selected.  The following files could not be copied:" followed by a list of the file(s) that were not copied.  When I try to rename a folder I get this message: "The folder X could not be renamed or moved."  I have tried optimizing my catalog, updated ACR and Lightroom, restarting my computer, resetting my permissions on all my folders, merging catalogs, renaming the database, etc. all to no avail.  Also the weird thing is it that it seems to only affect photos that I took before 2 months or so ago.  All my most recently imported files can be moved with no issue.  I have Mac OS X 10.5 running and I'm really not sure what is going on.  Does anyone have any clue how I can solve this issue?

Same camera.  I cant think of anything that I have changed in the past two months.  Ok I did find a strange anamoly, but not sure how to fix it.  I found that in the all the folders/photos before 4/21 the permissions have three names (C, M, & Everyone) with C & M having Read &Write privilege and Everyone having 'no access.'  On the 4/23 and later folders the permissions have three different names (M, staff, and everyone) with M having Read & Write privilege and staff & everyone having read only privilege.  So C is my husband we set him up a few months ago (but it was before April) as a shared user on my Mac and it seems all the ones with his name on the permissions dont work but then the ones that do work have a Staff and I dont know where that came from.
Sorry if this seems really confusing, but its confusing to me so I'm hoping someone who is more computer savvy then I can help me out.

  • Automator - Metadatamover dont move, only copy files

    Hello,
i wanto to create the following service in automator to rename image files and move the renamed files to a created folder.
My workflow will be -> mark files, right click -> choose Rename Service -> Insert target folder Name -> Folder will be created, files renamed and move from source folder to target folder.
This will worked for me, but he only copy the files and dont move it to the target folder? Why?
    What i did:
Download the automator action MetaDataMover from here -> http://6v8.gamboni.org/-Automator-.html
    1. MetaDatamover (Action Move same directory, overwrite)
    2. Create New Folder (Show when run)
    What it does:
It renames the files, creates the target folder, but dont move the files, only copy the files. How can i handle this? Where is my fault?
    Thanx in advance

Thanks Eric. I don't see that option, but I did discover what the problem is:
    Sharing/Permissions were set to:
    System - read/write
    Wheel - read/write
    Everyone - read only
Above the options window text read: "You can only read"
After changing permissions to: "everyone - read/write"  all functions returned to "normal", so I guess the system was seeing "me" as a user, NOT the Admin. I am the sole user of this workstation. I appear to be logged in under my name, but maybe I am not considered the "admin"?
Any further user/admin clarification appreciated. (When computer wakes up, I log in under my name, not guest)

  • Is it possible to do this kind of Move and Rename?

I save pictures a lot, and usually they clutter up on my Desktop until I organize them later into category folders. My folders are like this:
VACATION PICTURES (Folder Name), and inside the pictures go: Vacation_1, Vacation_2, Vacation_3, etc.
I'd like to be able to click on the cluttered pictures on my Desktop, then have a pop-up ASK me where I want to put the pictures (because I have a lot of folders, such as "Vacation Pictures," "Pet Pictures"), then ASK me what to rename them. Or, better yet, I want the script to automatically know what to rename the files based on what folder I select to move them to. For example, if I first direct the pictures to be moved to the "Vacation Pictures" folder, in which all the files are Vacation_1, Vacation_2, Vacation_3, etc., I want the program to automatically rename the newly-moved pictures and continue the existing sequence by going Vacation_54, Vacation_55, etc.
So I want the script to automatically continue the already existing sequence in the folder. After the move, I want it to automatically figure out what the name will be and the sequence number to start on to join the others.
Is this at all possible to do? If so, could someone explain how? Thank you so much!

    Hello
You may try something like the code below.
Save it as application, drag-drop the files onto it. It will ask you the destination folder and then do its tasks, hopefully.
(It will create a temporary folder in destination for renaming file without name conflict and when done, move the temp folder to trash. It won't automatically delete the temp folder for safety. You may empty trash manually.)
Script is partially tested under OS9.
    Hope this may help,
    H
    --SCRIPT
    on open aa
    main(aa)
    end open
    on main(xx)

-- (1) get last file name in destination (if there's no file, use destination folder name's 1st word)
Finder of OSX 10.4 or later is required for proper 'numerical' sorting.
    E.g.
    'x_10.jpg' > 'x_9.jpg' by 'numerical' sorting, whereas
    'x_9.jpg' > 'x_10.jpg' by lexical sorting
    tell application "Finder"
set ff to (sort (get files of item da as list) by name) as list
    if ff = {} then
    set n to (get item da's name)'s word 1

  • Can't delete, rename files, or move to another folder

I had posted earlier about not being able to delete, rename files, or move to another folder. It never was resolved here, and I guess Apple still hasn't done anything about it. Here's a great workaround I found though in case others need something. Download the program called "Unlocker", it's free and you can get it at http://ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/ When you get the message about the file being in use, even though QuickTime isn't even open, you can unlock the f'ing file and do whatever you want to then, move, uh DELETE, or rename, or whatever. Try it, it's the best thing going so far seeing Apple isn't doing anything about this problem.

    Hi there,
I am still struggling with this problem. Actually my coworker has the same machine, Apple pro with windows xp installed, but he does not have this problem with his quicktime 7.5. I uninstalled 7.5 and installed 7.2, but it did not solve the problem. The fact is that I don't have the problem in my laptop which I am using it in the office. I am still trouble shooting. Hopefully I can find an answer.
    Peace

  • How to edit move rename files in iTunes

how to edit move rename files in itunes

    I don't like iTunes.
I don't want iTunes to keep the physical location of my files because they can be on a SD card, or an USB drive and i don't want iTunes to stop me from playing a song because it cannot find it anymore.
So i would like to use physical files just to upload to iTunes Match and then delete the link to the physical file.
If needed, iTunes Match will download the file.
The problem is just that i would like to delete all references to physical files to make iTunes Match download the file only when needed and stop using the first version i had given to it
maybe i could have a Apple Script to check if there is a physical file referenced and if so delete it to have only the Cloud version

  • Error -43 when trying to move/delete/rename a file.

I have two files on my computer, each within a folder inside a folder. The outer folder can be renamed and moved, but no contents can be renamed, moved or deleted.
Whenever I try to delete or move or rename any of the internal files I get an Error -43. I know it's not permissions since it won't let me change them, but the permissions show up as fine. If I try anything else I just get the error. If I put them in the trash it empties the trash but the files remain.
    Any idea? I'm using OS X 10.4.8.

I can't seem to make the post with the title so I
    took a screen shot
Aah. The old Adobe License file, I bet. I managed to delete mine, but I forget how. I did a quick Google search, though, and turned up someone who had this same problem and fixed it by running fsck in single user mode. Unfortunately, the site is down right now for an upgrade...
Apple's Knowledge Base has an article about running Disk Utility to fix disk problems. I think running Disk Utility (you have to boot from your install disc for it to be able fix the disk) is the same as running fsck from single user mode.
