Unable to open connection to MS Access 2013 .accdb file Under WCF Web Service Project Using Windows 8.1 64bit

I am encountering the following error when trying to connect to an Access 2013 database:
The 'Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0' provider is not registered on the local machine.
I have Visual Studio 2013 SP3 running on Windows 8.1 64bit OS which also has Office 2013 installed (which includes MS Access 2013).  My project is a WCF web service using .NET Framework 4.5.1 using any cpu as target.  I have tried reluctantly
to install the older drivers as described by in the below article:
https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/1d5c04c7-157f-4955-a14b-41d912d50a64/how-to-fix-error-the-microsoftaceoledb120-provider-is-not-registered-on-the-local-machine?forum=vstsdb
 and also went through the "Add Data Source" wizard in the Project menu to have the connect string automatically built.  Even with the automatically built connect string I can not connect to the .accdb file from within my WCF web service.
What's odd is if I use the Database Explorer in Visual Studio it has no problem connecting the my Access file.  I inspected the connect string and tried to use it as well but still get the same error. Even stranger is that I have no problem connecting
to the Access DB in an ASP.NET project on the same PC. I am also able to connect to the Access file using a simple Windows Forms application.  So I'm wondering if it has something to do with trying to connect to the Access file from a WCF web service
project.
What I'd like to know is if anyone has been able to get this to work in an environment as I described above as a 64bit WCF web service project?  I tried to switch my project to 32bit but when I do I get a different error which reads:
System.BadImageFormatException: Could not load file or assembly 'file:
Almost to the point of trying to get this web service project done with SQL Express but would like to know if it can be done with MS Access 2013.  Any information anyone can provide to help me get past this issue is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Have you installed the 64-bit Access driver on your machine? See
Data Source Names and 64-Bit Operating Systems for the differences in odbcad32. Call %SystemRoot%\system32\odbcad32.exe to check the drivers.
How do you host your service? Stand-alone or IIS or embedded to another application? Keep in mind that IIS7 runs it in its application pool which is defaullt 64bit. Thus the bad image exception, when compiling your service as 32bit.
When you need the Access database for your service to store informtation, then I would switch to SQL Server (Express) or XML files depending on your actual needs.
Also check whether your account under which your service is run has the necessary NTFS file permissions on the access file and the folder. This is getting even more complex when it's a remote folder.

    Hi Sharon2000,
    I think you could try the Database.NewPassword Method (DAO) in the VBScript file, and you could get more information about it from the link below:
    #Database.NewPassword Method (DAO)

    Here is a simple demo to achieve your issue.

  • Accessing a configuration file from a Web Service

    I have a business logic class that loads in a file of records and then has various searching methods provided. The way that it is currently used is via a servlet that has one parameter in the web.xml file that is the location of the properties file. This servlet creates a Configuration singleton by passing the location from the web.xml. The Configuration singleton reads in the properties file. The business logic class gets the location of the record file from the Configuration singleton to then read it in. I am trying to wrap this business logic class with a web service now and am not sure how to go about initializing the Configuration singleton without hardcoding the location of the properties file.
    Can anyone tell me what the best method of reading in configuration items from within a web service (i.e. an equivalent to the servlet web.xml method)? Where in the EAR or WAR should this properties file be located and then how do you get to it? I am using WebLogic 8.1 and creating the web service with the WebLogic Ant tasks (servicegen, wspackage, clientgen, etc.).
    Thanks,
    Adam

    okay, so actually, was attributing my problem to the wrong thing. in fact, another coding error (the way i was reading lines from the buffered reader) is to blame. turns out you CAN read from a file in the init or the doGet...
    bear with me, i'm just learning but anybody able to tell me why i can't trigger a FileNotFoundException here, even if i pass the FileReader a file that doesn't exist:
    try {
    BufferedReader r = new
    BufferedReader(new FileReader("???"));
    String s = r.readLine();
    int i=1, j=0;
    while (s != null) {
    if (i%2==0) {
    mailInfo[j] = s;
    j++;
    s = r.readLine();
    i++;
    catch (FileNotFoundException e) {
    e.printStackTrace();
    catch (IOException e) {
    e.printStackTrace();
    }

  • Concurrent users unable to open a shared Microsoft Access MDB database

    I have a share on a Cisco NSS2000, the NSS is in Workgroup mode (Firmware 1.13).
    Every user have read/write rights on this share.
    When I try to open an access MDB database from this share it happens that only a single user at time can open the database.
    The second user that try to open the database get a "Cannot lock file" error message.
    So, when a user has the Access DB opened, no-one other can open (or connect to) the same DB.
    It's impossible to open the DB using the access IDE ("Cannot lock file" error message).
    It's impossible to make multiple connection to the DB using OleDB ("Cannot lock file" error message).
    I've tried give full access to the mdb file.
    I've tried give full access to the mdb folder.
    I've even tried to give full access to the temporary LDB file.
    I always get the same error message.
    Is there a workaround?
    Thanks, Max

    I've finally been able to update the firmware to the latest 1.16.

  • DirSync + PwdSync - Passwords not syncing, error 611 Unable to open connection to domain

    Hello Everyone.
    I've installed and configured DirSync with Password Sync (PwdSync) in a forest with 4 domains.
    I'm using the most recent DirSync installation at the date of this post, 6475.0007.
    The domain structure is
    Parent Domain
    - Child Domain 1
    -- 'Grand' Child Domain 1
    - Child Domain 2
    I am successfully syncing users from Child Domain 1 only. I'm using container filtering to sync only 1 selected OU at this stage while I'm testing before deployment.
    User's in the selected OU are syncing and AD details are correct. To filter out the domains I didn't want to sync, I had to create an empty OU in each domain and select to sync it. Also in each domain I had to create an account with the
    same username and password as the Enterprise account I set up for DirSync.
    I enabled Password Sync while using the Windows Azure Active Directory Configuration tool.
    After a full sync I receive a 611 error in the Application Log, source Directory Synchronization.
    Password synchronization failed for domain: child1.domain.com . Details:
    Microsoft.Online.PasswordSynchronization.SynchronizationManagerException: Unable to open connection to domain:
    child1.domain.com .
    Error: There was an error creating the connection context. ---> Microsoft.Online.PasswordSynchronization.DirectoryReplicationServices.DrsException: There was an error creating the connection context. --->
    Microsoft.Online.PasswordSynchronization.DirectoryReplicationServices.DrsSecurityException:
    RPC Error 5 : Access is denied. Error creating DRS context handle.
    It appears that it's not enough to tick the box to enable Password Sync.
    I got a successful sync only after I did the following:
    On the DirSync server, opened C:\Program Files\Windows Azure Active Directory Sync\DirSyncConfigShell.psc1
    Run the command Enable-MSOnlinePasswordSync
    Log in with the Enterprise Admin credentials for the forest
    Run the command Start-OnlineCoExistenceSync to begin a sync
    I verified the password sync worked successfully with my synced users.
    Maybe I missed something in the instructions but I only tried this after reading a blog post by Jethro Seghers. Thanks Jethro!

    Your 4 steps are essentially already included during the normal setup wizard process, with the exception of #3.  Because DirSync runs as a service, you logging in to windows as an enterprise admin is not required.  It is possible however that
    there were replication or other delays in your multi-domain environment.

  • Unable to open connection error

    Hi All,
       I have a report that is connecting to two ODBC DSN connections. Using Crystal Reports 2008 it opens fine and generates reports (we did this even on the Crystal Server using CR 2008).
       When we load this report onto the Crystal Reports Server 2008 Server and try to open it using InfoView, it gives a message "Unable to open connection". Does anyone have any ideas to get it to work on the CR Server 2008? It is a very basic report with 2 ODBC connections. The driver for the ODBC connection is installed on the Server and was tested successfully with Crystal Reports just not with Crystal Reports Server 2008.
       Thank you in advance.

    Used System DSN instead of User DSN

  • Module: AppleODClientLDAP - unable to open connection to LDAP server - unable to create connection context

    Hi everybody,
    I'm running in an urgent problem, because binding to my OpenDirectory got lost. I've lots of "Module: AppleODClientLDAP - unable to open connection to LDAP server - unable to create connection context" messages in the system.log and OD service stoppped running. In the OD-section no server is listed any longer and all buttons are greyed. All network users for sure are not available, but all other services are up. I didn't changed anything to the existing services but started with the netinstall config. I got the following entries in the systemlog
    Jun 19 00:35:30 macminiserver.homenet bootpd[95005]: server name macminiserver.homenet

    Jun 19 00:35:30 macminiserver.homenet bootpd[95005]: ACK sent NB01 192.168.0.107 pktsize 304
    Since these logentries appeared, no network users and groups are available anymore. I'm running OS X ML 10.8.3 and DNS is fine.
    Are there any steps to perform to get LDAP working again? With all buttons in the server admin OD section greyed out I even can't setup a new directory.
    BR
    Jens

    I was able to restore the existing server with the automatic OD backup that Server.app creates. When my OD fails to start after a crash and db_recover commands don't work, it's always worked for me to restore the odmaster from a backup using the command:
    sudo slapconfig -restoredb /private/var/backups/ServerBackup_OpenDirectoryMaster.sparseimage
    I'm careful to keep an independent OD backup with Carbon Copy Cloner and this preflight script.
    You can also grab an earlier version of the sparse image ServerBackup_OpenDirectoryMaster.sparseimage from a Time Machine backup. It's also possible to rsync the database files directory from a Time Machine backup.

    Well, first, just make sure it's the Mac version and not the Windows version (which indeed would not run on your Mac). You say "Windows Office" which is why I mention it. I think you probably just mean "Microsoft Office" though.
    Next, is this on a disk (DVD), or did you purchase and download it from the Microsoft site?

    I opened the hard drive and found some intrusive files under places in left side of window..  How do I take them out?

    Thanks for the reply. I was able to save the data on the Macbook Air whose HD got corrupted by using File Sharing (ethernet connecting two Macbook Airs).
    I am also going to make a disk image of the HD using Disk Utility and mount that Disk Image onto an external hard drive. That way I can save the hard drive contents.

    Hi Luis,
    If you see closely, the productID is actually a concatenation of the areaID and the productID. The reasoning here is that a product can be in multiple nodes of the product catalog and one would need to specify the product on a particular node for the direct URL to work.
    On a client site, we came up with a better solution by creating a new FM to retrieve the specific areaID and productID for a product. This FM could be called by extending the webshop. Then a .NET program was written to re-direct a shortened form of the URL to the long URL and therefore the specific product in the product catalog. Eg.: http://yyyyy.com/b2c/b2c/product would be automatically redirected to http://yyyyy.com/b2c/b2c/init.do?shop=<shop name>&areaID=<area Guid>&productID=<product Guid>, something similar to the concept behind "tinyurl.com". A point to remember here is that this would work only for the B2C webshop.
    Hope this helps.
    Cheers,
    Ashok.

  • How to open or install fonts from a .suit file under Lion?

    How to open or install fonts from a .suit file under Lion? Thanks!

    although I believe I *have* used the .suit extension when I was creating suitcase files for TrueType fonts.
    You can get away with that because you haven't really changed anything. It's already a suitcase file, with a Type code of FFIL (the Creator code is mostly irrelevant). Adding .suit still tells the OS it's a suitcase.
    However, if you do something silly like change the Type code to LWFN (the outline portion of a PST1 set), then neither Font Book, or any other font manager knows what to do with it. It's recognizing the LWFN code, but the data structure of course doesn't match. The file is still a Mac legacy TrueType font. Suitcase Fusion 5 tosses this on the screen when I change the Type code to the wrong one:
    Changing the extension to something obviously wrong, like .otf produces the same message. It's trying to parse the data according to what the extension says it is, and nothing lines up.
    Trying to use .ttf or .ttc also doesn't work. A Mac legacy suitcase TrueType font is not built the same as a .ttf or .ttc font. Either is technically correct (it is a TrueType font), but that's the only similarity. What's happening in that case is Mac legacy TT fonts have all of the data in the resource fork. When you add .ttf or .ttc to the name, the OS and any font manager then tries to find the data in the data fork. Nothing there.
