Unable to open saved edited jpeg image

Not being the most techie type person, sorry if this is repeated in numerous place on the forum. I can see, and open, the images in thumbnail form in my 'Picture - Library'. I can then edit them in PE 10, but when I 'save as' (and I save as jpeg image with a version of IMG_****.jpeg copy ) the 'copy' jpeg thumbnail appears in the library as a blank page and no image. I'm then unable to open the 'saved' copy as it's the 'wrong type'. I've tried numerous images but to no avail. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Change IMG_****.jpeg copy to IMG_****copy.jpeg

Assuming this is an external HD, use finder to select the drive with your original computer, then press Cmd+i to show info. Go to the bottom of the info window and make sure 'Ignore ownership of this volume' is checked so that other computers can access it.

    hedger,
How do you expect anyone to help when we don't know a darned thing about the file, abut your setup, exact version of Photoshop and your OS, machine specs, etc.?
    BOILERPLATE TEXT:
Note that this is boilerplate text.
If you give complete and detailed information about your setup and the issue at hand,
such as your platform (Mac or Win),
exact versions of your OS, of Photoshop (not just "CS6", but something like CS6v.13.0.6) and of Bridge,
your settings in Photoshop > Preference > Performance
the type of file you were working on,
machine specs, such as total installed RAM, scratch file HDs, total available HD space, video card specs, including total VRAM installed,
what troubleshooting steps you have taken so far,
    what error message(s) you receive,
if having issues opening raw files also the exact camera make and model that generated them,
if you're having printing issues, indicate the exact make and model of your printer, paper size, image dimensions in pixels (so many pixels wide by so many pixels high). if going through a RIP, specify that too.
    etc.,
someone may be able to help you (not necessarily this poster, who is not a Windows user).
a screen shot of your settings or of the image could be very helpful too.

  • Unable to open saved JPEG images

I opened and modified several JPEG images with Photoshop CS2. Now none of these files can be opened by Photoshop or any other program. All of the files seem to have a non-zero size, but when I try to open them in Photoshop, it does not generate an error, it merely offers to create a new file with the same image properties (size, etc) as the saved image on disk.
I've also tried several other programs to open these files, and none of them can open them. FYI, one thing that all of the files have in common is that they are all saved with the absolute minimum compression settings.
Any assistance in helping me to recover these files would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

You can email me one of the Pics (zip it first) but it sounds like they are toast.

  • Finder Crashing When Opening Folders Containing JPEG Images

    Here's my odd problem.
Finder seems to work okay until I open folders with certain JPEG images in them. Specifically, it seems to crash whenever I open a folder that has images taken with my old Oregon Scientific camera. It gets a little bit annoying, because once I open the folder, Finder crashes... and then it re-launches, +with the problem window still open+... which causes it to crash immediately upon re-opening. And then it re-launches again, again with the same window open, which causes it to crash again, and on and on into the night.
Incidentally... these images also seem to crash Preview. I never had any problem with this before. They worked fine under 10.5, they worked fine under 10.4... they even work fine on OS9. I've tried turning off icon previews, I've tried list view and icon view and coverflow and all that, and it crashes every single time.
If I use GraphicConverter to re-save the images WITHOUT the EXIF data, then Finder seems to be okay. But considering I have nearly a thousand images that were taken with that (decidedly unsophisticated) camera, it's really an inconvenience to convert every single one. On top of it, I'd kind of like to keep my EXIF data where it is.
I'm really kind of starting to regret not waiting for 10.6.1 before installing, because I've encountered problem after problem... and my fiance's iMac is almost unusable, it's so buggy. Most of the issues I've encountered I can live with, at least long enough for Apple to release an update... but this Finder issue is killing me, because I can't even access my photos.
Anyone have this same issue, or some idea of how to fix it?

I've duplicated this behavior on both my MacBook and my fiance's iMac, which are both running 10.6. With my 10.4-enabled G4 and iMac G3, there's no problems.
I think I've at least figured out the actual cause. I just opened a folder of pictures taken with my Oregon Scientific DShot II camera, and it didn't crash the Finder, nor did it kill Preview. The EXIF data was intact. The difference was that with these images, I'd edited them and re-saved with GraphicConverter when I first took them.
After repeating the tests with some other pictures, I think that the problem isn't so much with the EXIF data as it is with the +preview image+. The DShot II camera saves some kind of a preview image (which isn't very good). When I edited these images with GraphicConverter, the application added it's own custom preview, overwriting the original.
For some reason, Finder (and Preview, though I don't know why) handle GraphicConverter's preview image, but can't seem to be able to deal with the preview image that the DS2 embedded into the image. Why this should change with 10.6, when all previous versions of the software worked perfectly fine, I have no idea.

  • Unable to open LR edited file in PSCS3

I recently imported some images from a second internal HD on my Intel-MacPro into Lightroom. After editing the image in LR I tried to send it to PS. LR told me it was unable to prepare the image and would not open the file in PS. I have tried other images in this folder only to have the same problem.
I've searched the forums for an answer but found nothing that worked. I have plenty of disk space, the image is not write-protected, I can process the image in ACR from Bridge. I have LR 1.2.
I recently copied these images from my backup DVD of the originals to the second HD but none seem to open in PS from LR. I am still able to send other photos to PS that are on my 1st internal HD.
    Help!
    Thanks

I sorted out the problem. Turns out that although the individual pictures were not write-protected the folders they were in were 'read-only'. I changed the permission status and voila! Problem corrected.
I think the warning from LR should say something about not having access or permission to open the file rather than just telling us it is unable to do so. That way we could start looking in the right direction to solve the problem. I stumbled on this solution when I was trying to move the folder to another folder in Bridge and finally received a warning that I did not have permission to do this.
Hope this helps anyone who has this problem in the future.
    Tony

  • Editing JPEG images and PS

First, I am wondering if Illustrator (CS6) has the ability to manipulate JPEG or raster images in any way, namely erasing pixels with the erase tool.
I am jumping back and forth between Photoshop and Illustrator and would like to consolidate the process into Illustrator as much as possible.  JPEG images are necessary for this project but the bulk of the work must be done in Illustrator.
Illustrator and/or PS to AI workflow suggestions are very much welcomed!

Thanks, emil. "Live-linking" isn't really a term hehe. I just meant use PSD's as image links in your Illy file, edit them in PS all you want and they'll update in Illy, just like emil explains. The Place feature is nice but I typically just drag/drop right into Illy from Windows Explorer, which is perpetually open in my right monitor.
But if you're just wanted to use bits and peices of an existing PSD, and not the whole PSD, then that's a different story. You then don't want to link in the PSD, of course.
It's all about knowing what options are at your fringer-tips and choosing the best way, per your worlflow, etc.

  • Unable To Open Saved WI Reports in IE 9-Receive Invalid Path Error

I am unable to open any saved web intelligence report documents in Internet Explorer 9.  When I select view or modify, the java report panel does not initiate but instead gives me an error stating "Invalid path /AnalyticalReporting/WebiView was requested".  Everything works fine if I use Firefox 9.   Is it a setting I need to change in internet explorer somewhere or is it a compaitibility issue?
I can create new web intelligence queries and reports in IE 9, but if I try to open a report that I saved, I get an error.

    Hello,
If you are using the older version of BOXI in that case IE 9 is not supported. Please check your Boxi version which supports IE 9 or not.

  • Editing jpeg image

I need help editing the text in a jpeg image. The image is hard to read when I add it to my Indesign file.

    Hello and welcome,
But I think you posted this in the wrong forum. This is one of the Captivate forums, and you are talking about something else.
JPEG is a compressed bitmap format, you will not be able to edit text in such a format. Do you know the origin? With Photoshop you could sharpen the image, but not sure at all that it will make the text readable, and you will never be able to edit the text. Only applications like Photoshop, when you add text in the application, allow that kind of functionality, but not an output, compressed format like JPEG.

  • Unable to open saved projects in CS5.5

    Hello,
Im using Premiere Pro CS5.5 and as of this moring when I try to open a saved project Premiere crashes with the error "sorry a serious error occurred adobe premiere and must close". I am able to create a new project which works fine (didnt try saving it and reopening it). I also found that when logging into that machine as a different user Im able to open saved projects.
I dumped everything in C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Premiere Pro\5.5 thinking maybe the preferences may have been corrupted but no luck.
    Any thoughts?

We are having the same issue. We are using Garageband '09 version 5.1 on our new iMac 10.6.2. Each time we try to save or open an existing file we get this message "The document “My Song 3.band” could not be opened". This is starting to get really frustrating. Do you think with the new operating system we need iLife?
    Happy Holidays!

  • Unable to open and edit images after Ps CC 2014 re-install

"Could not complete your request because the file is not compatible with this version of Photoshop."
Maybe I have corrupt files as a result of bugging previous version of Ps?

    Hi Andy
is it happening with every file.
what is the format of file that you are trying to open

  • PSE6 Unable to Open Saved JPGs

After I save a photo which I have edited in this program, when I attempt to open the saved image from my computer, I am asked to enter my serial number.  When I do enter my serial number, it tells me that it is incorrect.  Now, clearly it is not the incorrect number, but more importantly... why would I be required to enter a serial number to open a file which I *just* saved?
Am I doing something wrong? Or is this a software issue?
    Thanks!

Try resetting the editor preferences. Press ALt+Ctrl +Shift on welcome screen and click Edit. You will be asked to delete the settings. Click ok and then try.
Else may be  symptoms of the licensing problem. I suggest printing out the instructions and installing the licensing patch again:

  • Photoshop CS5 unable to open for edits from Lightroom 3

Have been experiencing numerous issue with the new LR and Photoshop not playing nice with each other on my Mac Pro w/10.6. Photoshop CS5 is will open in 1 attempt out of 8, and won't open from LR for editing purposes (it did once). Have been using in 32 bit mode to accommodate NIK and Topaz filters. I have reinstalled three times so far. Anyone got any ideas?

Try deleting the prefs folder for Photoshop. Mine was doing something like this where it would not open the image inside
of CS5 when you right click on the image and try an "open with". But it would work from the menu, most of the time. The cost is having to recreate custom settings inside Photoshop but since my CS5 was a new install as was LR3, it did not matter to me. It did require a reboot for the new preference file to fully take effect.
    From Adobe's own workaround
    5. Re-create the Photoshop preferences files.
Re-create the Photoshop preferences file to eliminate problems that a damaged preferences file might cause.
Note: Re-creating the Photoshop preferences file restores settings to their defaults.
To re-create the Photoshop preferences file:
    Quit Photoshop.
    Rename the Users\[username]\Library\Preferences\Adobe Photoshop CS3 Settings\Adobe Photoshop CS3 Prefs.psp folder to Adobe Photoshop CS3 Prefs.old.
Start Photoshop. Photoshop creates a new Adobe Photoshop CS3 Prefs.psp file.
If the problem continues, then the Photoshop preferences file isn't the cause. To restore custom settings, quit Photoshop, then delete the new Adobe Photoshop CS3 Prefs.psp file and restore the original name of the previous Adobe Photoshop CS3 Prefs.psp
