Unable to Open Serial Port

Hi I am trying to write to an ADAM 4571 Ethernet to RS422 converter. Using the software provided by the vendor Ver. 1.49. I can setup the device properly, than configure it as a virtual com port. The problem is LabView sees the port but can not open it. Visa Open Fails every time. There is very little information about this problem.
Thanks,

Hey Thanks for replying so fast. I know the error code would be helpful, but I don't have access to the equipment at this time. Let me tell you a little more history; Two different computers one is a laptop, has the runtime LabView 11 SP1, NIDAQ951f1_downloader and niser370 installed.  This machine the software works as it should running an executable. The second computer has LabView 11 SP1 Developer installed. This is the development station, this machine is the one that I can not open the Virtual com port. Vender software is installed on both machines and configured the same. The executable source code will not run on the development computer. It fails when it tries to talk to the serial port. To trouble shoot this problem I opened a blank VI dropped Visa Open and Visa Close in it wired a control to Comport selection and indicator to error out, connected error terminals and com out to com in. The error said that it could see the com port but could not talk to it. This error was generated by the open routine.

  • Unable to open USB port device file: Permission denied

    I have an up-to-date system (full "pacman -Syu" yesterday), I am in a "lp" group and the printer (Canon Pixma MP270) started to give "Unable to open USB port device file: Permission denied" error, although in the past it worked and still works in Windows. Doesn't anybody have a similar problem?

    Thanks for reply.
    CUPS worked, I could use CUPS-PDF and localhost:631 was accessible and working.
    Today I managed to print again. I did "pacman -Rcsn cups" and reinstalled it again.
    My printer is Canon Pixma MP270 and so far it wasn't the best choice for Arch Linux—scanning works fine but it's like throwing a coin when it comes to printing. I've written a simple PKGBUILD for installing its printing driver as a regular package, but I don't know what to set as a license.

  • Can't open serial port

    I don't know what I've done.
    When I try to open COM1 I get:
    "Error -1073807202 occurred at Property Node in VISA Configure Serial Port (Instr).vi->Untitled 1
    This error code is undefined. No one has provided a description for this code, or you might have wired a number that is not an error code to the error code input."
    "VISA FInd Resources" reports 0 resources found.
    any ideas?

    It should show up in Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX) click the Software folder to expand it, then click on NI-VISA. It should show the versions installed in the right panel.

  • Open serial port each time to communicate

    Hello,
    I am upgrading an old serial I/O communications system. With the old system, any communications were begun by re-opening the serial port and getting a new visa resource name. The old visa resource name was never closed, but new names were continually created. In the new communications I only open the port once and use the same visa resource name. The trouble is that the new system is incredibly slow, taking almost 3 seconds to complete a message.  Note: prior to reading, I do query for number of bytes at the port and then read the corresponding amount. The old system is much, much faster. Why?
    Many thanks,
    Steve

    Hello,
    Here is a copy of both communications vis. The old one works much faster, I don't know why.
    Thanks!

  • I'm unable to access Serial Port

    I have written following code but I m getting NullPointerException on line 13 of this code, please solve my problem and identify error.
    In this code I have used chaeron api which is available at www.chaeron.com
    import com.chaeron.GPS.NMEA.*;
    import com.chaeron.GPS.*;
    import com.chaeron.platform.SerialPort;
    public class MyGPS1 //extends NMEAGPSImpl
         public static void main(String st[]) throws Exception
              SerialPort sp = null;
              NMEAGPSImpl gps = new NMEAGPSImpl();
              sp = gps.getSerialPort();//returning null
              if(sp.isOpen())
                   gps.setSerialPort(2);
                   gps.connect();
              System.out.println(sp.isOpen());//error on this line

    generally serial port problems stem from incorrect installation of the javax.comm package: does the serial demo work? It's hard to say what the problem is without knowing anything about the gps object.

  • Unable to delete serial port (advanced bluetooth prefs)

    I was messing around with the advanced Bluetooth preferences and added a couple serial ports to this list.  But when I select the items, the remove button remains inactive.  How do I delete these?  (Note: checking the checkboxes doesn't change the state of the remove button.)

    Hi ChouDoufu,
    did you get a reply, or find a way to fix this problem? I'm experiencing exactly the same issue. Moreover, if I go to "My Bluetooth Places" and "View My Bluetooth services", I can see the various services, and even enable some of them such as File Transfer or Bluetooth Imaging. However, I cannot enable Bluetooth Serial Port, which is what I'd need to be able to connect my Palm with my Lenovo. By the way, it works fine with my other computers, just not with this Lenovo T60p...

  • Writing to serial port 1 from a PDA

    ok this program is driving me NUTS! i have this microchip which uses a certain protocol... now this protocol requires that you send it some characters in hexadecimal so it'll reset... afterwhich it'll send you a data packet containing the version of the microchip etc etc (it's an aduc812... which you can find on www.analog.com)... anyway, that's not important... i am having trouble actually WRITING to serial port 1... i noticed that doing it through an actual PC requires some sort of "open serial port.vi" which is not available in the pda version... all i have is init.vi which is apparently not enough from what i am told... i thas to be opened first... initialized next... then written to then read from... does anyone know how i can acc
    omplish this open procedure with the pda module? is that some sort of software i'm missing? why isn't it included with the pda module add on... etc etc... thank you in advance... i really need help with this so as much information as possible would be appreciated... let me know if you need further info...

    Hey Christina,
    Here is a link to a knowledge base one simply writing to the serial port from a PDA.

  • How to access the serial port on sdk 3.1.3 ?

    Hi all,
    I know that accessing serial port is not possible on firmware 2.x for non jailbroken iPhones.
    But what about firmware 3.0?
    Apple has focused firmware 3.0 on accessories, through bluetooth or through serial port. So, accessing serial port should be possible.
    But I can't find any documentation / sample code for that.
    Would you please help me?
    Regards,
    Alx

    Looks bad.

  • Inconsistent prob when adding listeners to serial ports for sending AT cmds

    I have an app that sends and receives SMSs from two different cell phone carriers (lets say verizon and sprint by example).
    For that matter i have two cell phones, exactly the same model, one from each carrier, connected to the PC serial ports, COM, COM6 and COM7 being aware that they are available.
    -The application communicats with the phones through the a serial communication API and sending AT commands.
    -The application can send messages correctly from both phones within the same transaction, this is, i click in send message and the message is sent from both phones.
    The problem is when receiving, getting the SMS received by the phones:
    -When i have ONE phone connected to the PC it work properly for both phones.
    -When i have BOTH phones connected, only Carrier1 phone receives properly.
    When checking, i just find out that the problem rises when i try to add the listeners (see code comments below).
    When both phones connected there seems to be a problem that i cant figure out, and may be its a conceptual misunderstanding from me.
    I attach the code if you can help me,
    thank you,
    fernando

    Thinking of a java application as its what I am most
    comfortable with, but also thinking of having an
    apache server, and using jsp pages or servlets...
    because I hate formatting things in a java frame..
    have never quite mastered that! Any thoughts on what
    I should use?I'd prefer a Swing GUI for a maximum of controls. If you have any problems regarding layout, you can post concrete questions here (or even better: the Swing forum).
    And my main stumbling block would be how do I send
    signals to the green light from the computer? How do
    I get signals from the light beams to the computer?
    How do I use a serial port (for eg) from a java app.There's an additional library for serial I/O, it's named javax.comm ... should be downloadable somewhere on the java.sun.com site.

  • Serial port ReadTo timeout exception

    Hello.
    I am communicating with modem using serial port.
    The fist time I open serial port and start sending AT commands everything works fine.
    Then I wait for a couple of seconds and repeat procedure...
    Second time it opens port and sends first command and waits port.ReadTo("\r\n") -> and here is operation timed out exception.
    If I close the program and start again it works fine... its like serial port wasnt disposed properly?
    Here is the program:
    class Program
    static void Main(string[] args)
    SendATcommands();
    Thread.Sleep(5000);
    SendATcommands();
    static void SendATcommands()
    SerialPort port = new SerialPort();
    port.RtsEnable = true;
    port.BaudRate = 9600;
    port.DataBits = 8;
    port.Handshake = Handshake.None;
    port.Parity = Parity.None;
    port.PortName = "COM9";
    port.StopBits = StopBits.One;
    port.WriteTimeout = 20000;
    port.ReadTimeout = 30000;
    port.NewLine = "\r";
    port.Open();
    Thread.Sleep(1000);
    port.WriteLine("+++");
    Thread.Sleep(1000);
    port.WriteLine("AT\r\n");
    port.ReadTo("\r\n");
    port.WriteLine("ATH\r\n");
    port.ReadTo("OK\r\n");
    port.WriteLine("AT\r\n");
    port.ReadTo("OK\r\n");
    port.WriteLine("AT&D2\r\n");
    port.ReadTo("OK\r\n");
    port.WriteLine("AT\r\n");
    port.ReadTo("OK\r\n");
    port.WriteLine("ATE0V1Q0\r\n");
    port.ReadTo("OK\r\n");
    port.WriteLine("AT\r\n");
    port.ReadTo("OK\r\n");
    port.WriteLine("ATDT040111222"); //phone number
    port.ReadTo("CONNECT 9600/RLP\r\n");
    port.WriteLine("ATH");
    Thread.Sleep(1000);
    port.WriteLine("+++");
    Thread.Sleep(1000);
    port.Close();
    port.Dispose();

    Closing the serial port makes normal no sense, when you want a contious communication. Also using sleep to time your commands is pretty useless as the modem may need longer to prepare for the next command. Thus you need to read the answer from your modem
    and continue when sent an OK.

    Hi,
    I also have a similar problem. I added myself to uucp group, but I still cannot access the serial port.

    Hi.  My new computer had Acrobat on it.  Suddenly, I was unable to open any PDF's.  and then I tried to update and was forwarded to the Adobe site that said I had to buy a monthly subscription.  I do not have the physical box with a serial number and was going to buy the one advertised on the website until I discovered it's only for students and teachers, which I am not.  What should I do next as I need to use PDFs on a daily basis.  Thanks!  I would like to be able to download this and pay online.  Possible? I currently have Adobe Acrobat XI Pro.  I have a Windows 7 system.  Please help!

    As long as you know your serial number you can download PSE from here:
    Download Photoshop Elements products | 11, 10

  • Java ME 8 Permission check failed when opening a serial port

    I have a larger Jave ME8.1 application that was going well until I tried to add one last piece, reading and writing data from a serial port. This was left to last because it is trivial, at least in most programming languages. The is IDE NetBeans 8.0.2 running on a Windows 7 PC. The platform is a Raspberry Pi B or B+ (I have tried both) with the most current Raspbian (12/24/2014 I believe). To simplify the process I created a new app with just the open and close code and this generates the same error I am experiencing in the larger application. The program is as follows:
    package javamecomapp;
    import java.io.IOException;
    import java.io.InputStream;
    import java.io.OutputStream;
    import java.util.logging.Level;

    If I comment out the JavaMEcomApp.openComm and closeComm lines it runs fine. When they are included, the following error is dumped to the Raspberry Pi terminal:

    I have tried this with three different serial ports, /dev/ttyAMA0 (yes I did disable the OS from using it), an arduino board /dev/ttyACM0, and a USB to RS485 adaptor /dev/ttyUSB0. All of these ports could be connected and use normally with both a C program and terminal program in the Pi. The API Permissions were set in the project properties / Application Descriptor / API Permissions to jdk.dio.DeviceMgmtPermission "/dev/ttyAMA0". This of course was changed as I tested different devices.
    I found a reference suggesting adding the line "authentication.provider = com.oracle.meep.security.NullAuthenticationProvider" to the end of the jwc_properties.ini file. This had no effect. I found references that during development in eclipse and NetBeans, the app is already elevated to the top level so this should not be an issue until deployment. This does not appear to be the case.
    I am out of time and need a solution quickly. Any suggestions are welcome.

    Terrence,
       Thank you for responding and confirming the issues I'm having with static addressing.  As far as the example above, I do have the standard LEDs working correctly, however, the example I'm referring to above is from the JavaME samples using the GPIO Port for the LEDS, according to the Device I/O Preconfigured List you referenced:
    GPIO Ports
    The following GPIO ports are preconfigured.
    Devicel ID
    Device Name
    Mapped
    Configuration
    8
    LEDS
    PTB22
    PTE26
    PTB21
    direction = 1 (Output only)
    initValue = 0
    GPIOPins:
    controllerNumber = 1
    pinNumber = 22
    mode = 4 (Push-pull mode)
    controllerNumber = 4
    pinNumber = 26
    mode = 4 (Push-pull mode)
    controllerNumber = 1
    pinNumber = 21
    mode = 4 (Push-pull mode)
    So is the assumption that using GPIOPort for accessing the GPIO port for Device ID 8 as listed in the Device I/O Preconfigured list not supported?
