Unable to purchase HD movies on iTunes to watch on my Macbook Pro with Retina Display?

I tried to purchase HD movies on itunes but was presented with an error message saying 'This cannot be played in HD on this computer. If you buy the HD version, you will have to transfer it to an HD-compatible device in order to watch it. Or, you can buy the SD version and watch it on this computer.' but this was obviously not right because i'm using a Macbook Pro with Retina Display 15" and it's resolution of 2880x1800 far exceeds the minimum screen resolution required for HD playback. Performance was not the cause either as this is an 2.6ghz quad core computer with 16GB of RAM. Any help on this matter? Thanks in advance.

I talked to Apple Support and we at least stopped the bleeding, a little bit. These are the troubleshooting steps I did before I contacted Apple Support:
1. Reinstalled OSX
2. Restore the last known good Time Machine Backup.
This did not fix my issue, so I called Apple Support and they told me this:
1. Turn Power off.
2. Wait 15 seconds.
3. Plug in Magsafe adapter.
4. Wait 15 seconds.
5. Hold down the Shift+Option+Power Button for 20-30 seconds.
6. Turn Power back on.
Ok, this stopped the bleeding a little, but as soon as I plugged in a Apple USB Superdrive
and a Apple Mini Displayport to VGA Adapter. This "USB Devices Disabled" pop-up pops up like every 30 minutes now. At least, it is not constantly popping up after I close it, so I guess it will do for the temporary. Going to contact Apple support, later, though to see what else can be done.

  • I have only loaded phone contacts in my new iPhone 5 and my email contacts only on my Macbook Pro with retina display contacts how can I keep them from changing my iPhone to email contacts only when I connect to iTunes please

Since purchasing a new iPhone 5 and macbook pro with retina display I have decided to keep the iPhone 5 for phone contacts only, and the macbook for email contacts only .. Is there a way for me to keep these as they are recorded on each apple product when I sync with iTunes as it has changed my iPhone and put in email contacts and thus deleted iPhone phone contacts once when I syncd thanks appreciate any help

To prevent your iPhone from automatically syncing when you plug it in, click on iTunes in the menu bar, then preferences, then "devices", then tick "prevent iPhones, iPad's and iPod's from syncing automatically".
Plug it in, then on the iPhone sync summary screen, click "info" along the top.
Make sure the "sync contacts" option is not ticked. as long as it's not ticked, then it won't sync with your mac's contacts but will still include them in backups.
Also, if you use iCloud, make sure that the iPhone/mac are either not signed into the same account, or that "contacts" is not turned on for both of them

  • Combining Mover's Discount Coupon and Student Discount Coupon on Macbook Pro with Retina Display

    To whom it may concern,
I've recently saved up enough to buy a Macbook Pro with Retina Display 13.3" with 8GB Memory ($1235) and I read on a few forums that you could combine the Mover's Coupon and College Student Coupon on the Macbook. However, with that discount, many customers had trouble because the sales associate/manager said it wasn't applicable to apply the Mover's Coupon and neither was it applicable to combine both coupons.
As a result, I called my local Best Buy in Brooklyn, NY (Bay Parkway, Store #599) in advance to double check if it was possible so that I wouldn't be wasting my time trying to argue with the store manager, etc. The sales associate said generally, I couldn't combine two coupons regardless of what type they were.
I was wondering if combining the Mover's Coupon and College Student Coupon still applied to the Macbook Pro.
If it did, would it be possible for someone to directly contact my local Best Buy store manager or sales associate that would be ringing me up and explain how to do it and that it is possible to combine the two coupons. I also have a $100 Best Buy gift card that I intend to use with my purchase so I was wondering if that was applicable on top of the Best Buy coupons.
Attached is the link below for the specific Macbook I intend to purchase.
    Thank you for your help.
    Best,
    Wilson

    Hello Wilson,
MacBook Pros are fantastic machines! I have owned one myself since 2010 and it’s still running smoothly. They can be quite the investment so I can understand why you would be looking to combine coupons and use a Best Buy gift card.
Best Buy gift cards are accepted as a form of payment, so you shouldn’t have trouble using a coupon and a gift card together. You can check out more information on forms of payment on our Payment Methods on BestBuy.com.
I would like to discuss your desire to combine these coupons further so I am sending you a private message. You may check your private messages by signing into the forum then clicking the envelope icon in the top right corner of the page.

  • I have purchased a MacBook Pro with Retina display, but it will not arrive within 30 days of my purchase. Does this mean I will not be able to update the software to Mountain Lion?

As already stated, I have recently purchased a MacBook Pro with Retina display. It will arrive in 4-5 weeks so I don't assume it will arrive in less than 30 days. I would like to know wheather I will still be entitled to a free softwere update to the Mountain Lion. The laptop will ofcourse be completely new and recently purchased, so it would be very disappointing if I am not entitled to this update. Please let me know if you know anything about this or have any assuptions. Thank you

You can call apple if you need reassurance, but they will not turn you down on the free upgrade just because you have not received your computer by day 30.

    Sir / Madam

hi just wondering, i live in ireland but i am planning to buy a macbook pro with retina display in america, will applecare purchased in ireland still cover the macbook from america, thank you

Yes. Apple care is associated with the serial number, and stays with the machine even if you where to sell the machine before the Apple care expires.

  • Can I upgrade the solid-state drive in a MacBook Pro with retina display after purchase?

There used to be an option to upgrade the solid-state drive when configuring a MacBook Pro on the Apple Store online, but it is now gone.  This makes me wonder if Apple's SSDs are built into the computer like the RAM is.  So, is it possible to upgrade the SSD later?  I don't want to pay so much more to upgrade everything else, so I'd love it if it's possible to just upgrade the SSD later.  Thanks!

You will void the warranty. Here are the available post purchase upgrades. http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/SSD/OWC/Air-Retina/Apple-MacBook-Pro-Retina-2012- Drive-Internal-Flash
You should order it with as much storage as you can afford rather than doing a post purchase upgrade because of the warranty being voided.
Message was edited by: BobTheFisherman  Sorry. I just noticed I posted the link to a 2012 retina flash upgrade.

Read the specs carefully to ensure this will work for the model Macbook Pro you are getting.

  • Does the iTunes Now Playing Dock notification work on the macbook pro with retina display?

Hi, this command used to work on my old 2011 MacBook Pro, but now when I try it on my new retina display macbook, the Dock resprings everytime i pause or play a song in iTunes.
    defaults write com.apple.dock itunes-notifications -bool TRUE;killall Dock
is it not compatible with the new retina display OSX Lion?

This is not a problem with Retina nor Mountain Lion. I have the exact same problem with my MBP 13 inch early 2011 running Lion.
Everytime I play/pause in iTunes, Finder restarts. Everytime a new song starts playing, Finder restarts.
I've contacted Apple Support in Denmark, but since I do not have a paid-plan with the Apple Support, the guy sent me instructions on how to reinstall the OS.
Hope this thread will provide me with more precise answers.

You should also ask this in the MacBook Pro forum. This is the forum for the white and black plastic MacBooks that were discontinued in 2010. You should also post this question there to increase your chances of getting an answer.

  • Where can I purchase a sleeve that fits well on my MacBook Pro with Retina display?

I have been looking for one, but all that I find are ones originally designed for the old 15" MacBook Pro.  I want one that is made for the new, thinner MacBook.  Every time I think that I have found one, I read the reviews and they say that it really doesn't fit right.  This might not be the appropriate place to ask a question like this, but I thought that I'd give it a try.

  • Is the 15inch entry level MacBook pro with retina display available for purchase instore?

I know that if the buy option says I stock you can pick it up from the store. But has anyone bought the new. MacBook pro retina display instores??
I going to buy one very soon, and I'm confused why the apple website says shipping is 3-4 weeks. Is that only for customizations??

MacMall (online) has the base model in stock, I believe. And various users around here have found the in Apple Stores, at Best Buy, etc. Amazon also had some in stock the last time I looked.

  • Should I purchase an iMac or Macbook Pro with Retina display?

I'm off to uni is September to study Design and Im going to be running lots of Photoshop and CAD design software so Im gonn aneed a Mac up to scratch for that. I've been looking at the iMac and the rMBP for this. Has anyone got any ideas of which one would be more suitable?

    You are welcome, Will.
I have an iMac and MBP and eally am happy with both...run large FORTRAN codes on both with great success.
My daughter is the senior Art Director (graphic design degree) at an ad agency in NYC.  She has the MBP at home with the high-res screen (15"), and a fully loaded 27" iMac in her office with a 30" Apple cinema display attached, almost 5' of display.  Is very successful using both machines for heavy-duty graphics work.  The larger iMac just means it is much easier having multiple applications open, multiple windows, side-by-side instead of using the maximize/minimize process.  So, both are workable, but one is more convenient than the other.
Go to an Apple store or reseller and spend an afternoon with both machines you are interested in and get a goof feel for them and the image quality.
    Good luck making a decision.
    Ralph
