Unable to run bootcamp on my new Imac

I just bought an intel Imac and it crashed after I tried installing WinXP with bootcamp. So I followed the guide in one of the posts and repartitioned the IMAC with my old IbookG4.
DiskUti stopped at "creating partition map" for 6 hours. What should I do now? Please help!

I am not sure what you mean by partition maps in reference to OSX install so I will run through the procedure as best I can, once you have done this if it still fails then it might be a return job:
1. Start the mac from the OSX disk holding in the C key.
2. The installer will load and run through the agreement etc.
3. When it comes to the screen that says 'where do you want to install' your hard disk will probably be greyed out. At the bottom of this screen is an 'options' button, click it.
4. Select the erase and install option.
5. Click ok
6. Your harddisk should now be selected.
7. Click continue.
8. Click install, and allow OSX to be installed. As I say though this will destroy anything (left!) on your harddrive, if you have important information take it to an apple service centre.
If this fails than I would assume you hosed the harddrive some how, I don't know how though!
Once its all done etc run boot camp again and make sure you follow the instructions to the letter, it should install fine provided you are not trying to install a Hack of XP which is going to lead to all sorts of trouble.
ONe other thing you did put the firmware on the mac didn't you? I would assume bootcamp won't load without it but you never know.

  • I tried to run BootCamp on my new macbook pro, but i could not partition because of an apparent bad sector

I tried to run BootCamp on my new macbook pro, but i could not partition because of an apparent bad sector.
I reformatted the macbook, but the mac could not even boot up Mac OS Lion.
As such, I had to go down to my retailer and reinstall Lion.
    What exactly went wrong?

When I tried to bootcamp a few days ago, the partition could not work.
My technician told me that there is a bad sector.
So he reformatted, and Lion disaappeard. There was no O.S at all.
I went down to my retailer just now.
They ran a system check on the RAM, and the HDD.
They did not find any bad sector, and everything was okay.
They reinstalled Lion and now its okay again
But I'm afraid to try and bootcamp again because they same thing might happen?

  • Can i install bootcamp on the new iMac late 2012 "27"?

can i install bootcamp on the new iMac late 2012 "27" without fushion drive?

    You have two possibilities:
    1. Buy the USB SuperDrive and install Windows from a disc.
    2. Use an USB drive with the Windows 7 installer inside.
Boot Camp isn't compatible with Windows 8, so you will have to wait. Also, the Late 2012 is only compatible with the 64-bit Windows 7 edition

  • Upgrading from a G5 iMac running Tiger to a new iMac.

I am upgrading from a G5 iMac running Tiger to a new iMac, can I use 32Gb SD Card to move iphotos, itunes, ivideos? If so, how do I do it and insure I keep slideshows, playlists etc. I have built in iphoto, itunes etc.

Your Tiger iPhoto library may need upgrading with a Apple Library updater tool before you can use it with iPhoto '11. Reference. More iPhoto help just in case.
Make sure that that SD card is an SDHC card, and not just an SD card, or it may not be readable in your new iMac.
Here is the layout of the iTunes 11.0.1 Music folder on OS X 10.8.2. It may vary from what you have on Tiger.
Read the following articles before you move your iTunes library from Tiger.
iTunes for Mac: Moving your iTunes Media folder.
iTunes: What are the iTunes library files?
When you are satisfied that your iTunes content is moved over to Mountain Lion, you may wish to deauthorize the G5 from iTunes.

  • Bootcamp issue with new iMac

Hi - I just purchased a new 21.5 inch iMac with Intel Core i7.  I used Bootcamp to partition a new drive, and I installed 32bit Windows 2007 Home Premium.  Everything worked without a problem, until I tried to install Bootcamp in the Windows environment.  It says that "the version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you are running".  I searched the forums for similar issues - I tried to re-download the Bootcamp update in OSX; I tried to use the command prompt to go right to the msi file, and nothing worked.  Unfortunately, I cannot connect to the internet through Windows until I instal all the drivers, so I am stuck.
Does anyone know if the Bootcamp drivers are supported on the new iMac i7?

Hi, ta know, they don't mention it here, but I'm wondering if 10.8 might not require 64 bit Win7?

  • Do I need a separate hard drive to run FCP7 with a new Imac?

Do I need an external hard drive as a scratch disc to run FCP7 on a Mountain Lion new Imac?

Editing and finishing on USB 3 works great.  Just wrapped up a Smithsonian Channel show where the editor edited on a 2012 Macbook Pro using a USB3 drive, and I onlined with my 2012 Macbook Pro.  First show we did that was done solely on laptops. USB 3 drive worked great.
I started to online on my tower, but the connection was USB2, so playback was sporatic.  Switched to laptop.

  • HP Photosmart Studio running SLOW on my new iMac w/Leopard

We just became Mac users with our new iMac less than a month ago. We got the HP 4400 all in one with the computer as well. I unloaded pics from my camera's card today and used the editing software for the first time....it was incredibly slow. Is there a reason for that? Is it like a PC....could I be running other programs that I'm not aware of that could have been slowing it down? It actually "locked up" at one point which was extremely frustrating to me with a new computer. I used the unloading and editing software with my old PC and old HP printer with no problems, so I was very surprised when the "new stuff" was sub par today.
Anyone out there that can suggest something or help me out?

I also am a new Mac user and have purchased a C7280 printer with all the accompanying software. I have experienced exactly the same problem and looking at the Activity Monitor the PhotosmartStudio application is making a large number of Unix calls. I have already uninstalled and re-installed the Software and this has made no difference. The silly part of this whole saga is that I would much prefer to download direct into iPhoto, but I am not sure how to separate the applications and discontinue using Photosmart. I think it might be simpler to purchase another printer!

  • Unable to use huawei e173 with new iMac

I've just bought the new iMac and attempted to use my t-mobile huawei e173 dongle to connect to mobile broadband.  The iMac won't even recognise it's existence.  I've checked the system and found the USB ports, but nothing is connected.
It works on my Macbook Pro (2009 model, 10.8.2), so I wonder if it's the USB 3.0 port that is causing an issue - any idea how to rectify this?

  • Running HDMI from a new iMAC - T'Bolt/Mini Display Port

I'm considering the brand new iMAC (27" i7 4Gb video card) for video editing. Can I feed a Sony full HD (1080p) TV via HDMI directly from a thunderbolt port or do I have to use a dual-link DVI cable/adaptor.
The Tech Spec talks of a Mini Display port output and 2 thunderbolt ports but does not show the mini display port in the picture. Is there a seperate mini display port or are they talking about a thunderbolt port being used as a mini display port?

    Hi w andersen,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If your TV is not recognized by your iMac when you connect it, I recommend the troubleshooting tips found in this article:

  • How can I run Classic on my new Imac 10.4.7?

I've recently had to buy a new computer which is fantastic, however all my work (I work as a freelance designer) runs on classic and I cant open any of them. Is there something I can download that will open classic for me? Is it possible to download OS 9 to run on my Imac?

    Hi, cardsculptor -
    Welcome to Apple's Discussions.
If your iMac is a brand new one, it has an Intel processor. None of the Intel processor Macs are supported by Apple for Classic, which is why it is not included as an installable item from the original disk set that came with the machine.
There is a 3rd-party emulator program, SheepShaver, which is designed to work with OS 9.0.4 or earlier in order to provide OS 9/Classic capability on Intel-based machines. It may or may not work for your purposes.

  • Windows 7 bootcamp issues for new iMac 27

I bought an iMac 27 on Friday. Have used bootcamp on an older mac previously with no issues. I've tried now for several days to instal windows 7 without success. I've tried to 32 and 64 bit versions and both lead to either a blue or black screen freeze. I've also tried deleting the ATI.sys file but this also hasn't worked.
Would appreciate a walkthrough of how I can sort this (please put it in
Laymans terms as I am not particularly systems literate.)

Can only suggest starting with "iMac Black Screen"
