Unable to submit a Reader-enabled PDF: "This operation is not permitted"

Hi I've looked through the forums but haven't found an answer to this particular query: I've created a simple form (text boxes, radio buttons, and a submit button which should send the entire PDF to an email address). I have tried different options:
Reader enabled the form, then saved it and emailed a copy to a friend to test. When he clicked on "submit" he received the error "this operation is not permitted". Unfortunately I didn't ask what version of Reader he has. The form was created in Adobe Acrobat X.
Did not reader-enable the form, but opened it with Adobe Reader XI. When I click on submit I get a "server connection error". I'm using Gmail, Chrome and Windows 7 (I went to Start > Default Programs and was able to associate "MAILTO" with Chrome, but there is no option to actively choose Gmail as my mail client). p.s. Before submitting the form I checked and my internet connection is up and running.
I tried to submit the form from Acrobat X and I get a similar error, "Acrobat is unable to connect to your email program".
There are no unembedded fonts or hidden objects in the PDF.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Melissa

Submitting forms by email isn't really submitting. In my view it's a useful quick test, but not suitable for production use. For reasons you've already discovered. A particularly bad case is where a user uses GMail (or whatever) but has a WORKING email client that accepts the mail; but then it goes nowhere because they never set it up.
Submit really means "send to a web server" (where a script written by a professional will handle the data). Like the forms on every web site.
Web sites COULD "submit by email" too, but they don't because it isn't any good.
(Caveat: some big companies control the email set up exactly, and it can work for them.)

  • "This operation is not permitted" when saving PDF through a plugin

    Not sure what I am doing wrong. It appears as though I've followed the PDF Reference and documentation correctly, but I am getting this error when my plugin trys to save my PDF file to a new location (dont want to overwrite the original).
    Here is the sample code. I hope what I am doing wrong is easy to fix.
    PDDocClose(currentPDDoc);
    ASPathName filePathName = ASFileSysCreatePathName(NULL, ASAtomFromString("CString"), replacedSavePath.c_str(), 0);
    PDDocSave(currentPDDoc, PDSaveIncremental | PDSaveLinearized, filePathName, ASGetDefaultFileSys(), NULL, NULL);

    Ahh the problem was that the file was secured with a password. The documentation mentions:
    Known Exceptions
    Raises
    pdErrOpNotPermitted if saving is not permitted. Saving is permitted if either edit or editNotes (see PDPerms) is allowed, or you are doing a full save and saveAs is allowed.
    So I looked for that exception in the docs and it said:
    pdErrOpNotPermitted
    This operation is not permitted. Acrobat
    security does not allow content copying
    or extraction. These operations should
    be permitted when the document’s
    master password is used.
    So for anyone getting this error, try removing security from the file first.

  • I get error "This operation is not permitted" after creating form and opening it in Reader...

    Hi,
    I am very frustrated with this form I have created.  I created the form in Acrobat 8 but could not get it allow changes to be saved until I chose to "distribute" form.  I did that and now have a form that can be caved once filled out however when you open it you get the error "This operation is not permitted".
    From reading some other posts, I have done the following:
    Checked security settings and they do not fix it.
    Checked that all fields were form fields and they seem to be.
    Checked restrictions listed in purple bar and there were none.
    Checked for "unembedded" fonts and there were none.
    I think using Acrobat 9 might help me but I do not want the expense as I only use Acrobat for forms like this once a year.
    Does anyone know what is going on here and can maybe help?
    Thanks,
    Sean

  • When Submitting - "This operation is not permitted" ERROR

    Hi Guys,
    I'm new to LiveCycle and have created a whole array of online PDF forms that users can fill in and submit over the internet. The form is then received at the company end as a PDF attachment. Everything is going great until the company changed from a POP3 server to an IMAP server (I think they are using Microsoft exchange server?)
    Now when they go to submit the form after filling it in they get the following message.
    "This operation is not permitted"
    Is there any information people can give me to help with this. Obviously this is quite urgent, so any good tips that can help me I would appreciate.
    Perhaps there is a way to send the PDF without it loading outlook and sending it?

    It depends on what version of Acrobat you're using.

  • "This operation is not permitted" appears when re-saving/distributing a form.

    I have a form that I created using Adobe LiveCycle Designer (ver 8.0) which I saved and distributed several months ago and has been working fine. Now even if I make no changes  to the form, if I save and Distribute it again, the message “This operation is not permitted” appears when the re-distributed form is opened in Adobe Reader. If I make no changes to the form and DON'T save it but I do Distribute it, it works fine. I made sure that "auto select" was set for all of the fonts--as suggested--but it made no difference. What else might be causing the problem? The error message is not very helpful. Thanks in advance.

    I'm replying to this old thread for anyone looking for this problem in the future ( like I did ).
    The problem for me was that the original .pdf had a single blank comment in it.
    I opened it in Acrobat pro, deleted the comment, saved, opened it in livecycle, changed the illustration ( or whatever you had to change in the first place ), save it again, opened it in Acrobat and save for Reader Extended PDF.
    It now works
    PS: nice job Adobe with useless error messages. Just saying "Comments are not allowed" instead of "This operation is not permitted" would have saved countless hours to countless people.

  • Reader enabled PDF won't save to Word

    Hi,
    I'm sorry if I'm not putting this question in the right place, but I can't find a better location.
    We have a PDF that's reader enabled for editing with the typewriter tool, and we want to save it as a Word document.  Whenever File > Save as >  Word doc is clicked, we get a message that Acrobat has stopped working.  This is only with this particular PDF, as we've tried 'plain' ones that converted beautifully.
    How can I save the reader-enabled PDF as a plain PDF?
    Thank you!

    Thanks for replying!
    There is no 'Save a copy' in the File menu; maybe that option is just in
    Acrobat, not Reader.  I solved it, though; what I did was print to Adobe
    PDF.  As we know, that doesn't actually print anything, it just saves; and
    it was saved as a plain PDF!  Well, that was a lesson learned...and enabled
    PDF cannot be converted.
    Thanks anyways!

  • Open file attachment from text links within reader enabled pdf document...

    I created a PDF file with embedded sub pdf documents in Adobe Acrobat Pro X.
    Then I created a link to text part (Actions: Run a JavaScript).
    The JavaScript code which is executed by clicking the link is shown below:
    var d= this.dataObjects;
    dd="abcde-123_test.pdf";
    for (var i=0; i < d.length; i++) {
    if (dd.indexOf(d[i].name)>=0) {
    odoc=openDataObject(d[i].name);
    dc=odoc.path;
    odoc.closeDoc();
    app.openDoc(dc);
    Having the PDF file without reader enabled extensions, the link works perfectly.
    After activation of reader enabled extensions and reopening it in Adobe Acrobat Pro X, the same document raises the following error:
    RaiseError: The file may be read-only, or another user may have it open. Please save the document with a dfferent name or in a different folder.
    Doc.closeDoc:7:Link undefined: Mouse Up
    ===> The file may be read-only, or another user may have it open. Please save the document with a different name or in a different folder.
    Opening this reader enabled PDF document in Adobe Acrobat Reader X, the following error is displayed:
    Exception in line 7 of function top_level, script Link:Mouse Up
    The initial non-reader enabled PDF document displays the very same error message when being opend in Adobe Acrobat Reader X instead of Adobe Acrobat Pro X.
    Can someone comment on my issue?
    Many thanks!

    OK, now I changed the code as follows:
    dd="abcde-123_test.pdf"
    this.exportDataObject({cName: dd, nLaunch: 2});
    It works perfectly in Adobe Acrobat.
    Once it is saved as "Reader Enabled", again the same issue occurs:
    Exception in line 7 of function top_level, script Link: Mouse Up
    So... What to do now?
    Thanks in advance!

  • Add dynamic content to reader enabled PDF, maybe using metadata?

    The reader enabled pdf can be annotated by several users, in a web browser.
    However, when the PDF is retrieved, I want to store the users' username against the annotation/s made. The users details are only available at the time the application receives the request.
    I cannot dynamically add any javascript, as this invalidates the hash applied to the PDF i.e. the javascript is classed as unmodifiable content.
    I've tried adding the username as custom metadata using
    i pdfDoc.getDocumentInformation().setCustomMetadataValue("currentUser", userName);
    (and access it in the embedded javascript using 'this.info.currentUser')
    but it seems this also invalidates the hash !!
    So, my question is, how can i add the username dynamically to the PDF at request time, and access it in the embedded javascript, given that
    * the available usage rights are for 'Annot.*'. (* is all available rights).
    * the PDF is only reader enabled on creation (as reader enabling for large PDF files for multiple users is too slow!!)

    It's hard to say without seeing a sample. If you can post one somewhere, I'd be happy to test it out. If you can't post somewhere, you can email me at: acroscript at gmail dot com

  • Form Creation in Acrobat X Pro - unable to save as Reader Extended PDF

    I am using Acrobat X Pro on the Windows 7 OS. I have created a document in Word (Office 2010), saved it as a PDF and added form fields. When I try to Save As Reader Extended PDF, the options are grayed out. How do I create a form from a Word document that allows all end users to be able to type in the fields, use a digital signature, save a copy and print the PDF with the completed fields?

    In create the document in MS Word and save the file. Then I select print, and choose Adobe PDF as my printer to save it as a PDF. I then open the PDF file and select Tools, Forms, to create the form and add fields as needed. After I'm finished, I attempt to "Save As" and try to select Reader Enabled PDF, but the options are grayed out and unavailable.

  • This operation is not available for read only field 'Type MVF'

    Hi All,
    We are using OrderToCash PIP and we are on Siebel 8.1X.
    While Synching the customer from Ebiz to Siebel facing the following issues:
    Method 'WriteRecord' of business component 'Account' (integration component 'Account') for record with search specification '[Row Id] = "2d3434313239353"' returned the following error:"This operation is not available for read only field 'Type MVF'.(SBL-DAT-00402)"(SBL-EAI-04451)
    Please suggest us what steps to be done in Siebel.
    Thanks
    Maanasa

    First check the process why this is calling Account BC WriteRecord(). The field "Type MVF" might be read only and this sync process is trying to update this field which is read only. This is the reason for the error. Check the OM log / EAI Obj Manager Comp log (set log level to 5) and check.

  • Error 8062 when I try to copy or move files on my macbook: "This operation could not be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code -8062)". Can even not install new software now!!

    Since a few days when I try to copy or move files on my macbook, I often get an error message saying "This operation could not be completed because an unexpected error occured (error code -8062)". And then it just quits the copy or move.
    I searched a lot on the internet, but only found solutions for cases you cannot empty the trash due to this issue.
    I tried those solutions for my trash and that helped after some trying.
    However, I still have the problem with copying and moving files.
    I even cannot install new software now, as it has to copy itself to the programs-directory, and gives the same error-message.
    Who can help me??
    Cannot seem to find any info on it on the support-forums or elsewhere.

    Tips I received so far (thanks to A-Mac via Twitter http://www.a-mac.nl and Remco Kalf http://www.remcokalf.nl/)
    - make sure you have at least 10% of your harddisk in free space (I had only 5%).
    - do a PRAM-reset (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379)
    - perform a hardware test (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1509)
    - make a complete backup (with for example Carbone Clone Copier, see http://www.bombich.com/)
    - after complete backup: use diskwarrior (boot from Diskwarrior DVD, first perform diagnostics, then perform "Rebuild" which rebuilds your file directory).
    So far I only cleared up some space on my HD, and already the problem occurs less.
    Still, I will go through the other tips too.
    (will post progress)
