You need to switch to Oracle Internet Directory/ LDAP

Hi All,
I am trying to connect from SUN5 to SUN7 server ( Both servers running Oracle 7.3.4 ) on Solaris 5 boxes.
I can connect from SUN7 to SUN5 using sqlplus just fine.
But when I added an entry for SUN7 on SUN5 server in its tnsnames. ora file as :

Could any one tell me how I can get this to work ?
I tried unhashing the sqlnet.ora but then the application on SUN5 stops working.

I am new to Oracle and so i need someone in this forum who can help me resolve this problem. Also i even tried connecting to the database using Toad 10.5.0.41. It give me the following error:
ORA 12537 : TNS Connection closed
Thanks for your patience and help in advance.
---PrashantHello Irian and Sue,

Tnsping timed out using dg4odbc from Oracle to MYSQL through ODBC
Hi,
I encountered problem when trying to connect from Oracle to MYSQL using dg4odbc, hope you can shed some light
Oracle database is 11.1.0.7 on SUSE Linux 64-bit.
Since the application which runs on MYSQL DB only offers ODBC driver on Windows platform, so I installed the 32-bit ODBC driver (from ServiceNow) on a 32-bit windows server (driver download from http://wiki.service-now.com/index.php?title=ODBC_Driver) .
created system DSN: MYSQLDEV, The DSN connection works fine. I then installed Oracle 11.2.0.1 gateway for ODBC 32-bit on the same windows server, the following configurations were done:
On 32-bit Windows server:
in gatewayHome\hs\admin
initMYSQLDEV.ora:
# HS init parameters
HS_FDS_CONNECT_INFO = MYSQLDEV
HS_FDS_TRACE_LEVEL = DEBUG
in gatewayHome\network\admin:

if listener is not listening to the service, then the tnsping on the windows server should fail as well.
I don't know why only the tnsping from Linux failed, is it due to the 32-bit ODBC uncompatibility with 64-bit oracle server? or my configuration problem?
Of course, when I created the DB link from oracle, the connection failed with

Check this out.
TNS-12560: "protocol adapter error"
Cause: A generic protocol adapter error occurred.
Action: Check addresses used for proper protocol specification.
For further details, turn on tracing and reexecute the operation. Turn off tracing when the operation is complete.
TNS-00530: "protocol adapter error"
Cause: A generic protocol adapter error occurred.
Action: For further details, turn on tracing and reexecute the operation.
Proposed Solution on metalink.
Solution Description:
=====================
Delete the protocols in your "listener.ora" file that you do not use.
Edit the "listener.ora" file and look at the protocol section. Make sure that
only the protocols that you use on your system are there (i.e., TCP, IPC, ...)
and that there are no entries listed for SPX or NMP (named pipes).
Regards
Adnan
Since you are only using TCP I don't think that is the issue. You should turn on tracing to get more details.

Does anyone have any ideas what else I can check. I'm a Unix person, not a Windows person, which is making it even more complicated. If I was on Unix, I'd just blow everything away and start again from scratch, but since I'm not sure how to remove all traces from the registry, etc., I don't want to try that on this machine. There was already one other database created, but it's not goign to be used.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
regards,
Tarisa.hi,
thanks for the info. the problem, as it turns out, was that I was connected to the db server via a terminal service (Microsoft Management Console), which for some reason caused probelms with TNS. After I connected directly to the machine using VNC, I was able to create the database with no problems. strange but true.
regards,
Tarisa. -

=====================

However i am able to connect to the same using SQL Plus
Another issue that occurs is that the Oracle Enterprise Manager shows the following error after a while:

Any help in this regard will be very useful as this is hindering the progress of my work.

Hi,

That did not solve my issue..
What are the steps for configuring the listener again.

If I add REMOTE_LISTENER pointing to SCAN ip address, Does it require DB bounce ? (Its production DB)

Unable to select from Oracle to SQL Server
Hi group,
I am having some issues while trying to select a SQL Server table from Oracle.
Oracle version is 10.2.0.4 64 bits on Solaris 64 bits too, this database connects to Oracle Client (with dg4odbc) on Windows 64 bits installation (Oracle Cient version is 11.2.0.1), and finally SQL Server is running right on a Windows 2000 server on 32 bits.
When I try to select the SQL Server table from Oracle, I am getting the next error message:
SQL> select * from "interfaceinventarios"@TEST;
select * from "interfaceinventarios"@TEST
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-28545: error diagnosed by Net8 when connecting to an agent
Unable to retrieve text of NETWORK/NCR message 65535
ORA-02063: preceding 2 lines from TEST
tnsping TEST is working well.
On the Windows Server (64 bits) I used: C:\Windows\System32\odbcad.exe executable to create the datasource.
Any help or advice will be really appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Kind regards,
FranciscoHi,
If your server is of 64 bit then the oracle client needs to be 64 bit. -

I have flushed the rules from the iptables. There are no rules set right now, but still getting failure.
The TNSPING and TELNET is not getting through any ideas. Seems like that the port 1521 is blocked. How do I open it.?
Thanks.Is there a firewall between client and server? Unfortunately you don't tell us , which Windows version you are using. If it is Windows XP SP2 , by default Windows integrated firewall is activated. But this shouldn't be a problem in your case, because you are using Windows as a client.
