Unable to truncate table from plsql

i want to collect stats as my query runs.
i cannot do it from plsql
declare
  -- Local variables here
  i integer;
begin
  -- Test statements here
   SET AUTOTRACE ON;
truncate  table plan_table;
end;how do i do it.

Hi,
TRUNCATE TABLE is not a PL/SQL command; it's a SQL command.
To run a purely SQL command in PL/SQL, use EXECUTE IMMEDIATE.
SET AUTOTRACE isn't a PL/SQL command either; it's a SQL*Plus command, and I don't know of any way to run it except from the SQL*Plus command prompt.
I think this is what you need to do:
SET AUTOTRACE ON;
declare
  -- Local variables here
  i integer;
begin
  -- Test statements here
    EXECUTE IMMEDIATE 'truncate  table plan_table';
end;

  • Unable to retrieve tables from this connection

    I have been using Dreamweaver for over 5 years. I have been
    using an Access database and ASP the entire time. I am using a
    Windows 2000 server for the database and web site. I have used
    every verson of Dreamweaver since Ultra Dev. When I bought verson 8
    and upgraded to 8.0.2, I began getting the following message when I
    try to edit or create a recordset.
    "Unable to retrieve tables from this connection, click on the
    'Define...' button to test this connection."
    I don't know what to do. Is this a widespread problem? Is it
    a Windows problem? Is it a Dreamweaver problem? Is it a network
    problem?
    Please HELP!

    Did you ever get an answer for this ?
    I am having the same issue but using XP professional.

  • Error when trying to truncate table from within PL/SQL

    Hello.....
    Does anyone know why I get an error when trying to execute the following command from within PL/SQL?
    truncate table event;
    The error is as follows:
    ORA-06550: line 20, column 14:
    PLS-00103: Encountered the symbol "TABLE" when expecting one of the following:
    := . ( @ % ;
    The symbol ":= was inserted before "TABLE" to continue.

    And as a DDL, it does a COMMIT just before it runs. Whether you want a COMMIT or not.
    And with all the locking and serialization issues associated with a DDL.

    I have table called test based on an object type. When I issue an insert statement from sqlplus, the row is inserted. The exact same sql statement in a plsql block gives the error below. Any ideas? (it is not a constraint problem).

    Hi Adam
    You need to instantiate your object type in your insert statement(while doing through PL/SQL block), so try like this
    Insert into test values(document(1,2,'CO',55,'xyz','kkk','PENTIUM'));
    The reason you were successful through SQLPLUS was that, SQLPLUS automatically instantiate the values into object type.

  • Unable to Drop table from a corrupted Data Block

    while exporting tables i got message data block corrupted 7481. and while i was trying to drop the table, found SQL Recursive Error.
    Pls Help me. i am on the way to recreate my database..
    Thanks
    Rinson

    Is 7481 the block number?. Block corruption can be diagnosed using the CLI (Command Line Interface) dbv (database verify). You can also diagnose it by looking for the corresponding error message in the alert.log.
    Trying to recover data from a corrupt block is only possible using rman. Otherwise, the only thing you can do is to mark the block as corrupt using DBMS_REPAIR, rebuild the table and try to rescue data by recapturing it.

    If I do following it works -
    Command> update test_table set test_table.value = 60 where test_table.key = 3;
    1 row updated.
    Command> select * from test_table;
    < 1, 10 >

    < 3, 60 >
    3 rows found.
    Am I missing something?
    Any pointers or help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

    The problem is that the parameter names in your procedure are the same as the column names, hence the columns are being updated with the same values. You have two options:
    1. Change the names of the parameters by adding a prefix. For example:
    create or replace procedure testtable_update( p_ key integer,*p_* value integer)
    begin
    update test_table set test_table.value = p_ value where test_table.key = p_ key;
    end;
    2. Qualiflying the parameters with the procedure name.
    create or replace procedure testtable_update(key integer,value integer)
    begin
    update test_table set test_table.value = testtable_update. value where test_table.key = testtable_update. key;
    end;

  • Truncating a table from inside an application

    Hi all,
    Got a new problem to tackle. I am creating an application to calculate a very complex production bonus based on alot of different variables...
    I am working through retrieving all the data and created an apex temp table called site_bonus. I dump all the retireved values I get from Oracle for attendance, SIT data on discipline etc into the temp table as a count of number of occureneces to start the calculation of the bonus factors - here's the gotcha.....
    Prior to dumping the new run data into the temp table I want to truncate the table to remove anyprevious run data so that I dont get duplicate records cuased by a previous run. I created an on demand application process that basically does the following:
    truncate table "SITE_BONUS" /
    ( I basically copied it right from SQL workshop inside apex,by retrieving the SQL fromthe table truncate process where it works....
    When I run it anywhere inside my page as an on demand process It fails with the following error:
    ORA-06550: line 1, column 16: PLS-00103: Encountered the symbol "TABLE" when expecting one of the following: := . ( @ % ; The symbol ":= was inserted before "TABLE" to continue.
    Error
    OK
    I have tried it as a plsql process, an on demand process....and I get teh same error from any page inside my app and I cant figure out why I can do this from SQL worksop but cant call it from a page within my app.....
    Any ideas?
    Edited by: DSULLIVAN on Oct 28, 2009 3:13 PM - I corrected the typo

    You are trying : trucate
    trucate table "SITE_BONUS" /It should be : tuncate
    truncate table SITE_BONUSHope this helps,

  • Help with truncating a table using plsql procedure in different schema

    I have a plsql procedure in schema A that truncates a table that is given in as parameter.
    create or replace procedure truncate_table(schema, table_name)
    EXECUTE IMMEDIATE 'TRUNCATE TABLE '||schema||'.'||table_name;
    end;
    The above procedure has public execute grant.
    I need to truncate a table in schema B. I have a plsql procedure in schema B that calls the truncate_table procedure and passes in the schema B table name.
    Since the table is in schema B, should the delete grant on the table be given to user A or user B to truncate the table in schema B?
    Thanks in advance.

    Procedure created in schema A
    create or replace
    procedure truncate_table(l_schema varchar2, table_name varchar2) authid current_user
    as
    begin
    EXECUTE IMMEDIATE 'TRUNCATE TABLE '||l_schema||'.'||table_name;
    end;from schema B
    grant delete on table1 to Schema_A
    from schema A
    exec truncate_table('Schema_B','Table1');
    Hope this helps.

  • Unable to release space from table

    Hi all,
    We are unable to release space from a table called TST03 even after deletion of records.
    Followings are the information.
    Database     : 9.2
    Table Name      : TST03
    Tablespace     : LOCALY MANAGED.
    Previously there were lots of rows.
    At Present only 9 No of Rows.
    Space allocated     : 41 GB
    PCT_INCREASE     : Null
    One of the column is of LONG RAW type.
    Since the table is in LMTS, we were expecting that the space allocated will be released automaticaly after deletion of records.
    Now, what are the option left with us to release 41GB of space ?
    A. Is there any effect of "Drop storage" option of 'Truncate table' command ?
    B. If yes , can i copy all the 9 rows to a new table, then use "Truncate table TST03 drop storage", check if space is released and then copy back all the 9 rows to this table.
    C. Do you have any other easy solution apart from export/import ?
    D. Checked all the relevant Note(646681,48400,10551), could not find an easy solution. I  want to avoid offline export/import option.
    Thanks .

    Sorry, but that is not what LMTS is for. Wrong assumption.
    MaxDB e.g. returns space immediately - Oracle does not.
    > Now, what are the option left with us to release 41GB

    > A. Is there any effect of "Drop storage" option of
    > 'Truncate table' command ?
    Yes, the effect is, that after the truncate the table is empty and  only one extent is allocated - the rest is returned to freespace. That's the DEFAULT behaviour of TRUNCATE TABLE.
    > B. If yes , can i copy all the 9 rows to a new table,
    > then use "Truncate table TST03 drop storage", check

    Nope - you would have to copy the LONG RAW columns as well and this cannot be done easily from sqlplus.

    Nope again - you'd have to use this offline reorganisation as long as you're not on Oracle 10g and the long raw fields got converted into LOBs. With 10g you might also use the SHRINK table command. But with Oracle 9i - sorry: exp and imp (will be pretty fast for 9 rows...)

    Sorry - no way to avoid it and still get the free space back.
    Anyhow you might want to take actions to prevent this situtation from reoccuring.
    These kinds of questions are covered in the notes

    thankyou very much
    pritam singh

    Hi ,
    Saving a library (.pll) to database would store the object inside specific tables that are to be created.
    If you are using 6i, then you should find toolbild & toolgrnt.sql files which you have to run in the order specified. The above scripts creates the necessary tables and henceforth you won't get those errors while saving.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks,
    Vinod.

  • Unable to wipe ZFS partition table from the disk

    I used an SD card as part of a zfs zpool made of three SD cards, without partition table. ZFS was managing the entire devices, not just partitions.
    I subsequently retired this zpool but did not run “zpool destroy”. This worked for two of the cards, but it seems as if one of the SD cards just can’t shake the zfs_member marker, no matter what I do.
    So far I tried multiple times, on several different machines (including two without ZOL installed, so zfs cache file is not an issue here):
    1. dd the entire device with zeros. Four times.
    2. zpool labelclear -f /dev/sdc
    3. create new msdos partition table in gparted and fdisk
    4.
    $ mkfs.btrfs -f /dev/sdc
    $ mount /dev/sdc /mnt/usb
    mount: unknown filesystem type 'zfs_member'
    Unable to wipe ZFS partition table from the disk
    5. Windows format and Partition Minitools windows equivalent of gparted.
    As you can see, none of those methods wrote over the zfs data. It remains intact and invulnerable to anything I tried.
    I am out of ideas. It looks like google is out of ideas, too.

    Yeah, somehow while writing the first post I missed that wipefs also does absolutely nothing.
