Undo passwords from secure sites

I pay my bills online and I saved passwords when prompted now I think that was a bad idea. How do I undo these saved passwords for bank and credit card sites?

You can remove saved logins using the Options dialog:
"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Security > "Saved Passwords"
If you have a Master Password set, you might be requested to enter it again in order to do this.
Success?

  • I deleted my saved password from a site, how do I get the site to remeber my new password? The dropdown box doesn't appear now when I type in my password

I removed my saved password from some sites that I needed to change my password for because they wouldn't auto log me in anymore. So I removed them and then retyped my new passwords in and the usual "do you want us to remember this password" drop down box didn't pop up.

Firefox would normally have asked if you want to store a new password when you erase the password and enter a new password.
Did you check the password exceptions and make sure that the Password Manager is enabled?

New Imac. I get rid off login password from security and accounts and restart. Now it asks for username and password and it's not acepting anything. Any ideas?

First, reset your password as follows.
Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select Utilities ▹ Terminal from the menu bar.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    resetpassword
That's one word with no spaces. Then press return. A Reset Password window opens.
Select your boot volume if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Follow the prompts to reset the password. It's safest to choose a password that includes only the characters a-z, A-Z, and 0-9.
Select  ▹ Restart from the menu bar.
You should now be able to log in with the new password, but you won't be able to unlock the Keychain. If you've forgotten the Keychain password (which is ordinarily the same as your login password), there's no way to recover it. You’ll need to reset your keychain in the preferences of the Keychain Access application.
If you're being prompted to authenticate when making changes to files inside your home folder, continue as follows.
    Back up all data now.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Step 1
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Drag or copy — do not type — the following line into the Terminal window, then press return:
    sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -R $UID:20 ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ 2> /dev/null
Be sure to select the whole line by triple-clicking anywhere in it. You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. You don't need to post the warning. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command.
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2
Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select Utilities ▹ Terminal from the menu bar. A text window opens.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    resetpassword
That's one word with no spaces. Then press return. A Reset Password window opens. You’re not going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
Select  ▹ Restart from the menu bar.

  • Safari user name and password for secure sites

I just sent the following to "Mac OS X Feedback"
Some secure sites like brokers, e.g., Ameritrade, do no allow autofill in Safari for the user name and password. In fact Safari does not even ask if you want to remember the user name and password just entered for such sites.
I would like to suggest that something be done for users in such cases:
    1) A dialog box comes up warning that this website does not allow autofill.
    2) A suggestion is made as to what network setting needs to be changed to allow autofill to work
    3) A fix in Safari to take care of this problem
    4) Add something to Safari help
Does anyone have a work around for this problem?
Mac Mini (Intel Core Duo)   Mac OS X (10.4.5)
Mac Mini (Intel Core Duo)   Mac OS X (10.4.5)
Mac Mini (Intel Core Duo)   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Think about what would happen if someone gained access to your Mac, say while you were briefly away from your desk or whatever. They launch Safari, go to the login web page of (for instance) your bank & discover that autofill has helpfully filled in your user name & password so all they have to do to get access to your accounts is click the login button.
From there, they can transfer all your assets to some other account (theirs!) or invest in FlyByNight.com or whatever -- they can do anything your password lets you do with any password-protected account ... anything!
Take this a step further. Say you have enabled auto-login to your primary account at startup, or have used an easy-to-guess account password for it. Someone steals your computer ... & with it potential access to all your online accounts with autofill entries.
Not a pretty picture, is it?

  • Extracting username and password from security header

    Hey all,
I'm writing a BPEL process that invokes two secured web services. One of them authenticates using Username Token and the other has a authenticate method in which the username and password are supplied as Strings. I have successfully propagated the credentials from the BPEL process to the web service using Username Token by doing the following:
    1) I secured my BPEL process
    2) I imported oasis-200401-wss-wssecurity-secext-1.0.xsd and from it created a variable of type Security
    3) I added the security variable to the Header Variables for the BPEL process input
    4) I added the security variable to the Input Header Variables for the web service's invoke operation
This worked fine. However, I need to be able to extract out the username and password and supply them as Strings to the authenticate method of the other web service. How can this be done? If it can't, what are some alternatives?
    Environment:
    JDeveloper 11.1.1.6.0
    Thanks,
    Bill

    Hi Sri,
If I understand your steps correctly, I think the problem I'm having rests with the second step. I don't know how to get a hold of the username and password to assign to the local variables you mention. The BPEL process itself uses Username Token for authentication. These credentials need to be passed to the web services invoked within the BPEL process. If I assign the security header variable directly to the string output for the BPEL process, the string returned will be the complete XML security header, which includes the username and password. However, the security header variable itself doesn't expose the username and password directly. In other words, I can't expand the security header variable node in the dialog for editing the Assign operation and get to the username and password. I think one solution is to parse out the username and password from the complete XML security header using string operations (substring, index-within-string, etc). Also, regarding step 4, I'm not sure if passing the credentials in the header will work for this web service. I think the web service is expecting the credentials as parameters to its authenticate method.
    Thanks,
    Bill

  • On new MBP, wont download pdfs from secure sites, like banks. "unknown error" reported. Using Acrobat.

Recently started using a Macbook Pro, formerly ran Firefox on a PC. Installed Acrobat and it works fine, and will download pdfs from internet fine, UNLESS it is from certain sites, that as near as I can tell have in common that I needed a password to get in (eg, Bank, insurance company). At this sites I can't download a pdf file, and am told that an "unknown error" occurred and I should try saving directly link to the disk. But this doesn't work either, it just wants to save a .cgi file, not the pdf. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Did you try to save that cgi file and give it a .pdf file extension?

  • Firefox 4 loops back a page when entering password on secure sites

When verifying credit card details on secure sites, eg Verified by Visa ( password needed to confirm valid credit card details with card issuer) Firefox goes back a page asking for details again, instead of confirming card and placing order. Have had to place several orders by phone, before I twigged it was new browser. Have reverted to 3.6.17 for time being

Padlock is no longer part of Firefox; it was removed beginning in Firefox 4 The padlock shows that there is a secure connection but does not supply additional information. You could have made a typographical error and still have been connected to a secure connection. The padlock was replaced in Firefox 3 with the Site Identity Button. Familiarize yourself with the Site Identity Button at the left end of the Location Bar:

  • Pushing Flash from Secure Site

    Greetings...
I've been successfully implementing swf's within regular ol'
http sites for a while. However, I'm currently working within a
secure environment and client wants flash. I haven't been able to
view flash files from within this environment despite every effort.
Can someone please direct me towards information regarding
the server side setup to push flash from a secure site? When using
Dreamweaver to drop a flash file on a page writes the
RunActiveContent and writes the embed script... I've noticed that
the url references within this script call to non-ssl http
addresses... Are there secure calls to these codebases, etc?
    Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

  • What files need to be where to store passwords from various sites?

Safari used to store passwords just fine but now it's not working. "User names and passwords" is checked in preferences. Which keychains need to be where?
    Thanks,
    FM

    Hi...
Open Keychain Access located in /Applications/Utilities
    Select Passwords on the left.
Type:   Safari Forms Autofiil    in the search field top right corner of that window then right or control click that keychain then click Delete.
Quit then relaunch Safari. Navigate to a site you want Safari to "remember" the password. Enter the user name and password. Click Yes when prompted to save that data to a new keychain.
If you still have problems, back to Keychain Access.
From that menu bar click Keychain Access > Keychain First Aid
Click Verify. If necessary, click Repair.
    Try Safari...

  • How to avoid the JRE dialogbox if downloading applet from secured site

  • Can Safari save name/password for secure sites?

I use several webmail links several times per day where I have to enter account name and passswords. These are long strings with lots of numbers and symbols. Lots of opportunity for typos.
Is there some way for Safari to save name/password for frequently visited sites?

There is an App called 1Password (paid) that does save passwords, etc. and will automatically enter them in its OWN browser but not Safari. Sorry to say, I have only read about it and not tried it - didn't like the idea that it was a separate browser. But unfortunately, how the OS works, Apple will not allow 3rd party apps to run in the Background, thus allowing the integration with Safari.
Hopefully Apple will address this in future versions. Something like the Keychain App in the Mac OS, that holds all you passwords, but I think they won't because it means that if you lose your phone and someone finds it, then they will have access to whatever you have password protected.
