Unidentified error connecting to MySql

I’m almost embarrassed to post this question because
there seems to be plenty of the same issue already here. On the
other hand I’m not as embarrassed as the developer who
created such a useless message as “unidentified error”
.... but that’s another story.
I’ve reviewed those other messages & solutions and
still get this error.
I’m running Dreamweaver MX version 6.1 under Windows XP
and trying to connect to a local MySql database.
I have no problem connecting to the local database using
several other applications (including Navicat) so I think my set up
is okay.
I’ve also tested the connection with my browser (
http://localhost/mysite_root/test-connect.php)
and that test was successful.
I have defined the document type (PHP of course) and testing
server models.
I am attempting to use the + sign in the databases tab and
navigate to the MySql database and that is when the
“unidentified error” occurs.
I have tried removing the connection scripts.
I have downloaded and applied updates from the Adobe web
site.
One posting mentioned modifying the php.ini file, but it is
unclear what to change or even why that would be necessary since
everything else works.
I admit that establishing this MySql connection should be a
no-brainer that takes minutes not hours. But I’m out of
ideas.

Your settings seem to be correct. Other likely causes of the
"Unidentified error" are:
* MySQL isn't running (since you can connect with Navicat,
that's
probably not applicable).
* A software firewall is preventing connection between
Dreamweaver and
MySQL.
* You have old versions of the hidden connection scripts. I'm
not sure
if this option is available in MX 6.1, but go to Site >
Advanced, and
select Remove Connection Scripts. Then create a new MySQL
Connection in
Dreamweaver. This replaces the contents of a hidden folder
called
_mmServerScripts, which controls communication between
Dreamweaver and
MySQL.
The reason you get "Unidentified error" is because
Dreamweaver cannot
even communicate with MySQL, and therefore cannot identify
the problem.

  • Error connecting to MySQL database

    Well I am a beginner trying to get the basics of JDBC. I am following a simple connection tutorial and I cannot even make this work. I receive an error when I run the program. It is a nested error that begins with "java.io.EOFException". I'm thinking it has something to do with the URL I am using to connect to the database. Any ideas?
    Here is the code I am using if that helps at all.
    import java.sql.Connection;
    import java.sql.DriverManager;
    import java.sql.SQLException;
    public class jdbctry {
      public static void main(String args[]) {
        Connection con = null;
        try {
          Class.forName("com.mysql.jdbc.Driver").newInstance();
          con = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:mysql://url:port/database",
          if(!con.isClosed())
            System.out.println("Successfully connected to " +
              "MySQL server using TCP/IP...");
        } catch(Exception e) {
          System.err.println("Exception: " + e.getMessage());
        } finally {
          try {
            if(con != null)
              con.close();
          } catch(SQLException e) {}
    } edit- I think the problem was I had a bad port number assigned to the URL. This time I got a "java.net.SocketException" error. It says my connection timed out.

    I'll assume that you've substituted appropriate values into that connection URL, right?
    It s
    // host = IP address or name of machine where MySQL is listening
    // port = 3306 (default)
    // database = instance you wish to connect to
    // username, password have to be GRANTed access rights.
    String url = "jdbc:mysql://host:port/database";Can you connect using the MySQL client and see the database you want in Java? If the client can't connect, neither can JDBC.

  • Plz help me--error connecting to MySQL server

    While trying to connect to the MySQL server database,
    SqlConn = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:mysql://" + "database_server_addr/database_name?user=kiosk&password=!xyzabc");
    I get the following error.
    Error while connecting to mysql
    Communication link failure: null
    Notice the ! symbol(exclamation mark) present in the connection string above for the password value i.e., !xyzabc
    Is the problem with the ! symbol in my password, coz I am able to connect
    if I changed my password omitting the ! symbol. But I would like to connect with the ! symbol in the password. Any quick help is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Bussa.

    specify the database Server address, you can't do it with the "HTTP URL"
    String url = "jdbc:mysql://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx";
    Class.forName("mySql spec");
    Connection con = DriverManager.getConnection(url,"user", "pass");

    My dba's used Sql developer to connect to the same MySql database fine. If I use MySql Workbench, I can connect. (I prefer Sql Developer, so I was hoping to get this connection to work.)
    I even tried going to MySql to get their Connection/J JDBC jar file; but the same results.
    Any suggestions?

    Are your colleagues using the same sqldev/JDBC versions? Which?
    Did you follow the guide on setting it up, and the driver from http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/connector/j/ ?

  • Error connecting to MySQL database using JNDI

    Hi,
    I'm trying to do a simple connection to a MySQL database using the JNDI look-up
    method.
    Have tried this with the PointBase database that came with WebLogic and got it
    to work successfully.
    However got the attached error message when I tried it on MySQL database. I tried
    this with both the WebLogic's driver for MySQL and also the one I downloaded from
    MySQL (com.mysql.jdbc.Driver), and both failed with the same error message.
    Offhand, it doesn't look like the connection pool is failing. Tested it with WebLogic's
    "Test Pool" function and it was alright.
    Also MySQL database is working properly. Test this by doing simple connection
    and retrieval with simple JDBC connections and it works.
    Any ideas what else I can check with regards to this problem?
    Thanks!

  • Error connecting to mySQL...

    I have been testing JSP and get a strange error at this line:
    Class.forName("org.gjt.mm.mysql.Driver");
    The error message: http://www.hyrum.net/therecord/index.jsp
    Any ideas?

    Yes I have since changed it to have the NewInstance call. I was missing the jar file and then I also needed to change the mysql.users file.
    Apparently localhost is treated differently by JSP so it returns localhost.localdomain instead of just localhost.
    So I got it going yesterday :) Thanks guys.

  • "An unidentified error has ocurred" when connecting to mySQL in Dreamweaver MX

    Hi All,
    I've been trying & failing to figure this out for 2 days. I hope someone can help! I installed xampp on my local machine, got the Apache server, phpMyAdmin, and SQL up and running. My next step is to connect to my MySQL database in Dreamweaver MX. This where I'm running into trouble.
    I've given super access rights to several db users in my MySQL database just to be sure that it wasn't a matter of not-enough-permissions. Here is a screenshot of the privileges: http://www.skyebrannon.com/db_privs.jpg
    I am sure my connection information is correct, as I've used it to create a php page that lists my database tables.Those are working just fine Here is my info:
            $dbhost = "localhost";
            $dbuser = "root";
            $dbpass = "dbpassword";
            $dbname = "camin0_music";
    When I put the same information in my MySQL Connection, I get "An unidentified error has occured".
    Here is a screenshot of the error and my (working) connection info:
    http://www.skyebrannon.com/db_error.jpg
    My apologies if this has been asked & solved. If I missed a thread that answes this, could you please let me know?
    Thanks so much!

  • Connect to mysql DB (An unidentified error has occurred.) plz need help...

    I have been unable to create a database connection in dreamweaver to my MySql
    server.  Each time I receive the message "an unidentified error has occurred".
    I can use pure php code to create a connection successfully:
    <?php
    $username = "root";
    $password = "password";
    $hostname = "localhost";
    $dbh = mysql_connect($hostname, $username, $password)
    or die("Unable to connect to mysql");
    print "connected to mysql<br>";
    $selected = mysql_select_db("test",$dbh)
    or die("Could not select first_test");
    if (mysql_query("insert into test_table values('5')")) {
    print "successfully inserted record";
    else {
    print "Failed to insert record";
    mysql_close($dbh);
    ?>
    This works, I can successfully insert a record.  However, if I try and create
    a connection in Dreamweaver with these same variables, I receive the message
    "an unidentified error has occurred".  I have tried, deleting the _mm
    connection scripts folder and recreating them.  I have used the mx2004 updater,
    I have tried all document types...  nothing seems to work...
    i am using local server (phptraid)
    PHPTriad 2.2 contains the following changes:
    Updated packages for Apache(1.3.23), MySQL(3.23.48) and PHP(4.1.1).
    also using remote host at (www.0fees.net)
    last thing i would to say in my computer i success only one time to make connection in window 7 - dreamweaver cs4

    I am trying to connect from dreamweaver
    Details of that are below

    Testing Server
    Server Model PHP MySQL
    Access FTP
    FTPhost ftp1.reg365.net
    Host Directory web
    Login buildingbids.ie
    Password kevinmac
    This works when i test it
    URL Prefix http://ftp1.reg365.net/
    When i go to test the connection i get a message saying an unidentified error has occured.
    My connbuildingbids code is
    <?php
    # FileName="Connection_php_mysql.htm"
    # Type="MYSQL"
    # HTTP="true"
    $hostname_connbuildingbids = "ftp1.reg365.net";
    $database_connbuildingbids = "buildingbids";
    $username_connbuildingbids = "buildingbids";
    $password_connbuildingbids = "kevinmac";
    $connbuildingbids = mysql_pconnect($hostname_connbuildingbids, $username_connbuildingbids, $password_connbuildingbids) or trigger_error(mysql_error(),E_USER_ERROR);
    ?>
    My connection criteria is

    Yes they only allow it with a static IP address which i have and have been granted Remote access
    I have gone to a different server and now my code is like this
    My connbuildingbids code is
    <?php
    # FileName="Connection_php_mysql.htm"
    # Type="MYSQL"
    # HTTP="true"
    $hostname_connbuildingbids = "bono.hostireland.com";
    $database_connbuildingbids = "buildingbids";
    $username_connbuildingbids = "buildingbids";
    $password_connbuildingbids = "*********";
    $connbuildingbids = mysql_pconnect($hostname_connbuildingbids, $username_connbuildingbids, $password_connbuildingbids) or trigger_error(mysql_error(),E_USER_ERROR);
    ?>
    My connection criteris is
    Connection name     connbuildingbids
    MySql Server          bono.hostireland.com
    Username               buildingbids
    Password               *************
    Database               buildingbids
    I get a different error now it says
    Mysql error #:1045  access denied for Buildingbids@localhost (Password:Yes)
    so it looks like its looking locally for the database by default and i cant stop it.  I did orriginally have MySql set up on my pc and had done some test databases but i have deleted everything now even MySql but i still get this error so i am missing something.  Does anyone know why or how can i stop it defaulting locally. • Connecting to mysql returns unidentified error

    I'm running apache 2.2.something locally and am able to
    notepad a php script that queries mysql so i figure i'm set up
    right. I keep getting an "unidentified error" when trying to set up
    dreamweaverMX to connect to my database... any suggestions?

    I think... MAYBE... I found my problem here. But first some
    background:
    I bought DW for one thing: the application objects. Adobe
    removed dynamic content from GL before I could use it, and that was
    a big disappointment. So I bought DW ONLY for the database
    functions, and was using it along with GL to manage my sites.
    Because of this I ended up with multiple _mmServerScripts
    folders for this one site. I finally moved the DW code to the
    httpsdocs (note the S!) folder. I left the hidden _mmServerScripts
    folder behind for a while in httpdocs because I didn't see it.
    So after I had everything working on the https side I started
    to clean up all those folders from the http side. I deleted the
    _mmServerScripts folder but didn't see anything break because I
    wasn't using DW, just a browser. I've learned that DW is the only
    thing that uses those two files, so I guess that's why everything
    was working fine using the browser.
    Anyway... the fix:
    In the site definition - Basic (I can't find it in
    Advanced?!?) - on the fifth page "What URL would you use to browse
    to the root of your site?" I answered with:
    http://www.domain.com ( NO "S" )
    BUT EVERYWHERE ELSE I answered with https://www.domain.com (note
    the S !) All the forms and scripts I created with DW are in
    httpsdocs now. Everything runs with the browser using https:// !
    I then manually copied the _mmServerScripts folder to:
    http://www.domain.com/_mmServerScripts,
    changed the ownership to match the other files (don't know if I had
    to but I did) and now everything works.
    So I have two _mmServerScripts folders. One in httpsdocs and
    one in httpdocs. If I delete the one in httpsdocs it reappears when
    I test the db connection. If I delete the one in httpdocs I get a
    404 file not found when I test it. I put it back and it works!
    Is anyone laughing at this yet! :-)
    If I put the S back in the 'browse to' url I get the
    unidentified error again. Take it out and it works! I can edit
    record sets again etc. etc....
    I've wasted a few days on this. Maybe it will help someone
    else.

    There are two common reasons for that happening:
    1. An incorrect testing server definition, or
    2. A software firewall is blocking access between MySQL and
    Dreamweaver.

  • Can't connect to mysql - unidentified error

    I am new at this.  I created a PHP page and I want to connect to mysql on my host's server.  I can connect to my server as I can upload my site.   When I click on my database - MYSQL connection in dreamweaver I populate the appropriate informatioin.     When I hit test I get an unidentified error  It doesn't appear it is connecting to my database.   My cpanal and database appear to be set up so I can access it remotely.
    YUUGGG.   Since I can connect to my server to upload my site, I have verified I should be ok with accessing the database remotely what could be the problem?

    Connection name = database
    MySQL server: 174.120.152.211 (I was told to use this by my hosting company since I was accessing the file remotely
    Use name:  jake_jake
    Password - password for database
    datebase = database name
    What's weired is I can connect to upload my site but when I try to connect to get my database I can't.

  • Unidentified error when connecting to Mysql server

    Hello,
    I have two computers. Both computer 1 is configured with dreamweaver cs5 and is successfully connected to the ftp server and its database.
    Computer 2 on the other hand with the same version of Dreamweaver and the same settings gives me an unidentified error when I try connecting to the database. I spoke to help chat for my server and confirmed all of the fields are entered in correctly and that I have allowed access to my server from any IP!
    I have tried re-installing !
    Localhost with Xampp works also!
    No success !

    Are you using any firewall/antivirus on computer 2?
    If so, try to disable and then try,
    Also make sure you have the Admin rights on Comp2.

    I am unable to connect to  a database. I get the following error

    I am sure that something is not configured correctly, but I am not sure what?

    If your testing server is XAMPP or MAMP, you should put your site files in the htdocs folder of your local testing server.
    C:\xampp\htdocs\YourSiteName
    C:\mamp\htdocs\YourSiteName
    If you use WAMP server, you should put your site files inside www folder.
    C:\wamp\www\YourSiteName\
    These are the default directories used by localhost when previewing in browsers.
    Then define your local testing server in DW.  See screenshots.
    Advanced tab:  Testing Server model.
    If you haven't already, log-in to your local server's phpMyAdmin to create an SQL database and table.
