Union  dataset from oracle function with dataset from a postgres function

I retrieve two sets of data,
one from an oracle database using  Command_1    select * from  table(functionname(param1, param2))
one from postgres database using  Command_2     select * from  functionname(param1, param2)
i can join  the two tables (Command_1 and Command_2) with database expert > links
I would like to know if it is possible to UNION the two sets

Don't think so.
I have only done that by linking from Oracle to the other database and forming the union in Oracle.

  • Updating Oracle table with info from Sybase query

    I hope this is the correct forum for this question.
    I am fairly new to Java and JDBC. I am trying to figure out what the best method for updating information in Oracle tables with data from a Sybase table. I would prefer to use Oracle’s transparent gateway but this is not an option my company will pay for so I am creating a java stored procedure and using JDBC to connect to the Sybase database.
    The process I think I need to go thru is
    1.     Query an Oracle table to get the records that need to be updated and the “key” information to query the Sybase table with.
    2.     Use that result to query the Sybase database to get the fields that need to be updated in the Oracle table for those records.
    3.     Update the records on the Oracle table with the data from the Sybase query.
    I know I can just do this procedurally, row-by-row, but I was wondering if anyone knows of a way to accomplish this with SQL and no loops. Is there a way to make a result set available as a “SQL table” for another JDBC query?
    Basically what I would like to do is:
    OraQuery = “ select sybinfo from sometable where updated_date = null”;
    Statement orastmt1 = OraConn.createStatement();
    ResultSet Orars1 = orastmt1.executeQuery (OraQuery);
    SybQuery = “select update_date, sybinfo from sybtable where sybinfo = Orars1.sybinfo”;
    Statement sybstmt = SybConn.createStatement();
    ResultSet Sybrs = sybstmt1.executeQuery (SybQuery);
    OraUpdate = “update (select update_date from sometable, Sybrs where sometable.sybinfo = Sybrs.sybinfo) set update_date = Sybrs.update_date”;
    Statement orastmt2 = OraConn.createStatement();
    ResultSet Orars2 = orastmt2.executeQuery (OraUpdate);
    This may not be possible but if anyone has done something similar and wouldn’t mind sharing I would appreciate it. If there is a “better” way of accomplishing this I am open to suggestions.
    Thanks

    you can try using cachedRowSet() for the Oracle side query.
    The rows in this could be populated using the sybase side query's resultset and then all of this could updated into Oracle in one shot.

  • Cannot connect to Oracle 8i with IIOP from JDev3.1

    Hi,
    I have the problem of connect to Oracle 8i with IIOP from JDeveloper 3.1 when I build application with BC4J. I can connect to my Oracle 8i database with ODBC easily but failed with IIOP. Does anyone here has the same experience?
    Any help will be appreciated. Thank you.
    null

    Hi Daniel:
    I've solved the problem mentioned above. It requires two settings:
    I) Enabling Multithreaded Server Support for IIOP Clients;
    II) Listener's listening to port 2481
    Of course you should have installed JServer into your Oracle 8i database.
    In your init.ora file, you should have the following two lines:
    mts_dispatchers = "(PROTOCOL=TCP)(PRE=oracle.aurora.server.SGiopServer)"
    mts_dispatchers = "(protocol=TCP)"
    To confirm this you may use SQLPLUS to list the parameters of the database setting:
    mts_dispatchers string (PROTOCOL=TCP)(PRE=oracle.aurora.server.SGiopServer), (protocol=TCP)
    mts_servers integer 1
    And in TNSnames.ora file the setting should like this:
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = wangsvr)(PORT = 1521))
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = wangsvr)(PORT = 2481))
    All these two settings ( init.ora and tnsnames.ora ) can be done with "Database Configuration Assistant" and "Net8 Assistant"
    I solved my problem this way, your problem may not the same but anyway you may try it.

    There are a couple of ways to send email (with attachements) from Oracle Forms. Check out these links to some examples.
    using OLE2 or CLIENT_OLE2 to access a mail-client via Mail-Api ( Get and set Outlook properties )
    using MAILTO in conjunction with HOST or CLIENT_HOST to "start" a mail-client ( Re: Open Microsoft Outlook new massage with TO containing the email address )

  • Updating an oracle table with data from an xml string

    Hi - I need help with the following problem:
    We have a table in the database with a field of xml type. We are going to take each string that gets inserted into the xml type field in the 'xml table' and parse the data into another oracle table with corresponding fields for every element.
    once the record gets inserted into the 'real table' the user might want to update this record they will then insert another record into the 'xml table' indicating an update(with a flag) and then we need to update the 'real table' with the updated values that have been sent in.
    The problem that I am having is that I do not know how to create this update statement that will tell me which fields of the table need to be updated.(only the fields that need to be updated will be in the xml string in the 'xml table').
    Please help me with this - ASAP!

    Are you wanting to upload the file through an Oracle Form or just upload a file? If it isn't via forms, then you should probably post your question here: {forum:id=732}
    You also should post the version of Forms, Database, etc...
    As far as uploading files via a text file, I personally like to use Oracle External Tables even in Forms. You can Google that and there is plenty of information. If you search this forum, then you will see lots of people use UTL_FILE in forms, but you can Google that also for more information.

  • Oracle JAAS with roles from database tables and Oracle SSO integration

    I have the following requirement for user authentication and authorization. The applications are build using ADF Faces and BC4J. User authentication should be done using Oracle SSO. User roles and functions will be stored in custom tables. These roles will be used on ADF application pages to restrict access to the UI components on a page. Example: User will "Employee" role cannot create a new employee; however, user with "HR" role can create a new employee.
    In this case, "Create" button will be visible on the ADF page.
    1. How can we use Oracle JAAS to use custom tables for roles instead of using flat XML files?
    2. How does ADF applications use these roles to restrict components on a page?
    3. For authentication, I guess we should be able to use SSO and integrate with Oracle JAAS?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    I can give you the answers to 1 and 2 but haven't tried 3.
    1) Oracle OC4J since 10.1.3.1 has a database LoginModule that is explained in the OC4J security guide.
    I have a how-to document in review that will be published probaby next week and that explains how to set this LogiNModule up for JDeveloper and stand alone OC4J, though the OC4J documentation is pretty good as well
    http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B32110_01/web.1013/b28957/loginmod.htm#BABCDDAI
    2) Create a managed bean with boolan methods like isUserManager, isUserEmployee, isUserTechnician etc. In this methods check for the security role on teh request object's isUserInRole() method. Then access this methods from the disabled or rendered property using ExpressionLanguage
    A custom Login ModuleDoesn't use Oracle JAAS but plugs into it. So I am not sure if SSO would work with this because the custom LoginModule wouldn't get a username password pair but only a username that it has to trust.

    I was going to write up a longer answer, but then I realized this post contains pretty much all you need
    http://www.liberidu.com/blog/?p=365
    I like using XMLElement/XMLForest to build the XML as it gives you the most control.
    In the first example on Marco's website, you would just use dbms_xslprocessor.clob2file to write each file out to disk with a CURSOR FOR loop instead of doing a single OPEN/FETCH/CLOSE. The cursor would return two columns, employee.id and the generated XML. The filename would be based on the "id" column returned by the CURSOR.
    Assumption: The machine that Oracle resides on has the "C:\temp" directory that you want to write to. You cannot use this method to right files onto a client machine.
    Hope that gets you started.

  • Java.sql : Cannot retrieve records from Oracle 9i with JDK 1.5

    I think I'm doing everything right, but still the following code does not
    return any rows. I have the classpath set correctly and ojdbc14.jar in
    the path. I'm using jdk 1.5.
    What am I missing? Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks!
         Connection conn = null;
         String serverName = "MySvr";
         String portNumber = "1521";
         String sid = "mySID";
         String myURL = "jdbc:oracle:thin:@" + serverName + ":" + portNumber + ":" + sid;
         logger.writeLog("URL: " + myURL);
         String username = "scott";
         String password = "tiger";
         String query = "select 'test' from dual";
         DriverManager.registerDriver(new oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver());
         conn = DriverManager.getConnection(myURL, username, password);
         Statement stmt = conn.createStatement();
         rs = stmt.executeQuery(query);
         logger.writeLog("Cur Row : " + rs.getRow());
    -----> returns 0
         while (rs.next()) {
    ------> throws java.lang.NullPointerException
         }

    I think I'm doing everything right, but still the following code does not
    return any rows. JDBC didn't change from 1.4 to 1.5, so that's a red herring. It's you, not the JVM.
    I have the classpath set correctly Really? A system CLASSPATH environment variable? I'd say that's wrong. Better to use the -classpath option on javac.exe when you compile and java.exe when you run.
    and ojdbc14.jar in the path. You'd better mean CLASSPATH and not PATH. CLASSPATH is for the Java class loader; PATH is for the operating system. Don't get the two confused.
    I'm using jdk 1.5.     Irrelevant here.
    What am I missing? Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks!I think you're using ResultSet incorrectly, because it's never null.
    Try this:
    // I'd externalize this so you could change it on the fly.
    String driver = "oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver";
    String url = "jdbc:oracle:thin:@MySvr:1521:mySID";
    // I hope you're not using the default username and password for real
    String username = "scott";
    String password = "tiger";
    logger.writeLog("URL: " + url);
    Connection conn = null;
    Statement stmt = null;
    ResultSet rs = null;
    try
        Class.forName(driver);
        conn = DriverManager.getConnection(url, username, password);
        String sql = "select 1 from dual";
        stmt = conn.createStatement();
        rs   = stmt.executeQuery(sql);
        int value;
        while (rs.next())
            value = rs.getInt(1);
    catch (SQLException e)
        e.printStackTrace();
    finally
        // I'd put all these in a utility class
        try { if (rs != null) rs.close(); } catch (SQLException e) { logger.writeLog("could not close result set"); }
        try { if (stmt != null) stmt.close(); } catch (SQLException e) { logger.writeLog("could not close statement"); }
        try { if (conn != null) conn.close(); } catch (SQLException e) { logger.writeLog("could not close connection"); }
    }Note: close your resources in a finally block. It's important, especially if you don't want to run out of Oracle cursors.

  • SAP BW migration from oracle bi with BO

    We have presently Orcale BI with BO and we want to migrate in to SAP BW 7.0 . We have SAP SD,MM,FI,Self service,QM module for reporting with MDM . We have do solution design and rollouts . Is it we require functional people for this project. Is it BO-BI integration project? . We are considering BW,BO,EP,ABAP, basis and function module people . Is it this staffing is correct ?.
    How we can do existing orcale BI with BO to SAP BW 7.0 . we have 46 system as of now and we want to migrate all to SAP BW . What is the approch for this .
    Thanks
    RB

    Hi,
    Recently I have done similar kindly of implementation (Green field)
    Assumption
    Existing report are fixed no more requirement changes
    Best approach
    BODS is more flexible to load data to BW and reduce abap coding by 70% instead of Oracle to BW
    Go by phase wise
    Please kindly see answer are inline
    Is it we require functional people for this project.
    Yes we need them but for touch basis not full time. (At the time of requirement and reconciliation )
    Is it BO-BI integration project? .
    Yes
    We are considering BW,BO,EP,ABAP, basis and function module people . Is it this staffing is correct ?.
       EP no need according to your requirement your are not going by portal
    You may required below stuffing
    Primary stuffing ( one who will be there end to end for project and experience level above 5 years )
    Project Manager/Technical Manager - if he is good in BW ( most welcome)
    BODS(2) - 1. strong knowledge with BW and BODS integration developer and BW knowledge
              2. Database modelling consultant for to split master data and Transaction data and mapping document.
                 (usually oracle has master data and transaction data in single table but bw will have separate table)
    BW(1) -  one Strong Techno functional
    BO(1) -  one strong knowledge with BO and BW integration consultant.
    ABAP(1) - One strong in BW Modelling along with BW ABAP
    BASIS(1)
    BO Admin(1)
    Secondary stuffing (experience level less than 3 years )
    BW(3) - Three Reporting developer
    BO(2) - Two Reporting developer
    ABAP(1)
    Please do let me know

  • Dot source/calling a function with switch from the cmd line

    Hi
    This is driving me crazy and I know its something really obvious.
    If I have an example script like so, called myexample.ps1
    [CmdletBinding()]
    param
    [Parameter(Mandatory=$false, HelpMessage="My Switch")]
    [switch] $Myswitch,
    [Parameter(Mandatory=$false, HelpMessage="Email Address")]
    [string] $email
    Function Main
    [CmdletBinding()]
    param
    [switch] $Myswitch,
    [string] $email
    if ($Myswitch)
    Write-Host "Switch Enabled"
    Write-Host "Email is $email"
    else
    Write-Host "Switch Disabled"
    Write-Host "Email is $email"
    Main -email $email #This is the line that I think is at fault
    I have two issues
    1) How do I correctly write the code so that the script can be called with either or both parameters. The switch ($Myswitch) is the one that is really causing me issues.
    2) Is invoking it the easiest method/best/most common method of calling it via a batch file
    Here's my understanding
    a) I could dot source it (. .\myexample.ps1) to load the functions into the current session, then call the function
    Main -email hello.com -Myswitch
    or
    Main -email hello.com
    b) or I could Invoke it, which I think is my preference as my final goal here is for it to be called via a batch file in a scheduled task
    & 'C:\Users\myusername\Desktop\MyExample.ps1' -email hello -myswitch
    or
    & 'C:\Users\myusername\Desktop\MyExample.ps1' -email hello
    Any push in the right direction will be appreciated :)

    Why the function?  Just call the file.  We don't "Invoke" scripts. Just call the script..
    # MyExample.ps1
    [CmdletBinding()]
    param(
    [Parameter(Mandatory=$false, HelpMessage="My Switch")]
    [switch] $Myswitch,
    [Parameter(Mandatory=$false, HelpMessage="Email Address")]
    [string] $email
    if ($Myswitch){
    Write-Host "Switch Enabled"
    Write-Host "Email is $email"
    }else{
    Write-Host "Switch Disabled"
    Write-Host "Email is $email"
    Now jsut call it like a normal script:
    .\MyExample.ps1 -email someemail -MySwitch
    It is as simple as that.
    If it has to be a function as in a library then you must either dot source or create a module.
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  • Wish there was a snooze function with alerts from calendar on iphone

    hey guys, does anyone know of an app that acts like microsoft outlook in the way that, when you set a reminder, and it pops up on your iphone -BUT then gives you the option to snooze for 5mins, 10 mins, 15mins, etc.. until you "dismiss" the reminder? right now the calendar on the iphone doesnt let you snooze it, or maybe im just not doing it right. any help? thanks guys

    No. For any calendar app to even generate the first alert, that app would need to be left running constantly since 3rd party apps cannot run in the background. Maybe with 3.0 and push notifications, there will be a 3rd party workaround, but don't hold your breath.
    Really, it's up to Apple to implement a snooze function - it would be best if integrated into the Calendar app.

  • Difficulty synchronizing data from VISA resource with data from a physical channel

    Essentially what I'd like my program to do is control the electrical power going (sourcing either current or voltage) into a light and measure the intensity of the light at a given power level, and then do this automatically for ~1000 increments of the source voltage/current.
    One of my lab partners made a program a while back which does what we want("LIV Sweep Rev.vi" the first image in the link at the end of this post), but it's a bit sloppy: the program is able to interact with the power supply (connected directly to the computer via USB) and make it turn on, increase the voltage/current, and record the "IV" characteristics just fine. The program can also interact with the light detector (connected via NI-BNC 2110) and gather the photocurrent data. The problem, however, is that the data wouldn't be in sync. The photocurrent data for when the light was actually supplied with 1V would be improperly recorded in the cell for when 2V are applied to the light. To fix this problem my lab partner added in a time delay so that the detector will pause for ~0.35 sec (user-specified in front panel) before gathering data.
    The program works, but I figured there had to be a better way. The thing about the timing, however, is that it changes from run to run. Sometimes a delay of 0.45 s works well, and other times the power supply will have shut down while the detector is still gathering data (and thus we miss the low end of the sweep). Other times the detector will turn on too early, which will cut off the high end of the sweep.
    (Note: I have next to zero experience with LabVIEW, but I know a little bit of java, so I understand most programming jargon)
    I spent all day yesterday trying to find out how to synchronize two data aquisitions (my attempt is shown in the "LIV SweepSummerDuncanRev3.vi" in the link at the bottom, 2nd image) but I'm running into trouble when I try to trigger the sample clock using the VISA Resource Name for the power supply.
    The programs can be viewed here:
    http://imgur.com/a/Up3eS
    I'd really appreciate any and all advice that you folks have to offer!

    Change the code such that rather than using a ramp from your power supply, just output a single value. Then do your measurement and then step to the next value in your ramp.
    You can use a State Machine (SEarch if you do not know that term in LV).
    Some gear will allow specifying a ramp driven by an external clock. If you widget can handle an external clock/trigger that approach could run faster.
    Without hardware to syncronize the various sub-systems you would have to resort to using a RT OS and depending on the instruments, even that could be hit-n-miss.
    So re-code to step-measure-step-measure etc.
