Unit testing, integration and functional testing
Hello all,
I would like to know the difference between Unit testing, integration and functional testing. And also what are the testing tools that are more commonly used?
Thanks,
Maxx
Hi,
Unit testing :
A complete cycle of each module will be tested
ie for PP Right from requirements to planned orders /production orders
confirmation .
Integration testing:
Here cross module testing will be carried out.
ie PP and MM integration
After confirming production order a GR is made /billing is carried out
and delivered.
Functional testing:
This testing is carried out to see whether the system can with stand l the loads during processing by users.
Stress test and volume test.

How to test procedures and functions of pl/sql
I am working as a QA basically i got a new assignment of testing functions and procedures, and packeged bodies. Can any one help me in this matter.
Please help me.
Hi i am new to oracle I want to test procedures and functions,
and packaged bodies of pl/sql.It depends on what you meant by "testing". I guess you need to check that routines (functions, procedures, packages etc) in valid state and execute without errors. The simpliest way is to get some development tool like TOAD (http://www.quest.com), Oracle Maestro (http://www.sqlmaestro.com) or PL/SQL Developer (http://www.allroundautomations.com). You can connect with them to database and look at the routine state VALID or INVALID. You can recompile them, run and even debug. I guess this should be enough.
Alternatively you can do same thing from sqlplus. Of course with lesser comfort. You need to write certain SQL statements. For example i want to find invalid procedures:
SQL> select OBJECT_NAME, OBJECT_TYPE from USER_OBJECTS where STATUS='INVALID';
To check how procedures work you need to execute anonymous PL/SQL block like this:
declare
/* local variables declaration */
NAME VARCHAR2(4000);
PRESIDENT_ID NUMBER(38);
ID NUMBER(38);
begin
/* setting up variables */
NAME:='MICROSOFT';
PRESIDENT_ID:='BILLY';
ID:=NULL;
/* calling routine */
GEOMETRY.ADD_COMPANY(NAME,PRESIDENT_ID,ID);
end; -

Testing Procedures and Function manually with EXEC / BEGIN..END
This is what i noticed in SQL*Plus
while executing Functions and Procedures with OUT parameter.
1) For functions You can use EXEC like
variable mybindvar number;
exec :mybindvar:= gen_shpmt_num(2075490);and this ran successfully
2) For procedures with OUT parameter using EXEC returned error
variable mybindvar number;
exec :mybindvar:= fill_turn_locns(parameter list,.....,OUT_parameter/:mybindvar not included);
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-00900: invalid SQL statementBut when i use BEGIN and END for this , it will run successfully
variable mybindvar number;
begin fill_turn_locns(parameter list,.....,:mybindvar);
PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
SQL> print mybindvar;
MYVAR

M.ZipajYou try to execute your procedure by assigning the return value to a variable:
exec :mybindvar:= fill_turn_locns(parameter list,.....,OUT_parameter/:mybindvar not included);
A procedure should not return a value, you can call your procedure by executing:
exec fill_turn_locns(parameter list,.....,OUT_parameter/:mybindvar not included); -
Oracle Test Framework and the UPK
Does anyone know how the "Oracle Test Framework" works with or how it replaces the UPK for testing?
PTF works by replicating the actions of a single user executing functional tests against a PeopleSoft browser-based application. Users can record manual test procedures and save them within the framework.
The PeopleSoft Test Framework (PTF) was introduced in PeopleTools 8.51 and automates various tasks within PeopleSoft applications, primarily functional testing. Automating functional testing enables testers to execute more tests with greater accuracy during a shorter time.
Test assets (tests and test cases) are stored in a database as Application Designer objects. As a result, test assets are PeopleTools-managed objects, which can be managed along with other PeopleTools-managed objects through PeopleSoft Lifecycle Management.
Thanks1. Yes you need a web server
2. the env. vars:
REPORT60_VIRTUAL_MAP,
REPORTS60_PHYSICAL_MAP, and
REPORT60_SHARED_CACHE
are no longer needed.
3. The 'community' part of the Reports sever entry in your tnsnames.ora isn't required.

Hi All,
Can somebody explain what is a test scenario and test plan with an eg ( For eg FB 60). and what are the essential things one needs to incorporate for test scenario and a test plan
Appreciate your help.
Thanks
SMHi,
I am giving you the information on test plan and test scenario below. Please note that this is with reference to Solution Manager.
You create a test plan for a project in the SAP Solution Manager if you want to reuse the project structure created in the Business Blueprint for a process-oriented test. You can select all the test cases and transactions which you have assigned to the project structure, for the test plan. These test cases are performed by testers; they can call assigned transactions and run test cases in them.
Test Scenarios are nothing but the end to end business processes which are to be tested.
Hope this helps.

Test executive and Test stand deployment cost
Hello,
would some NI support engineer kindly answer below questions ? i would be obliged.
we have been running customized Test executive built from Test executive toolkit. We are now making decision as to whether We should migrate to test stand or keep the existing structure? Here are some questions:
1) in case We switch to test stand, do We still need to buy runtime engine license ?
2) can we call executables in Test stand ?
3) stating from ground zero, what is the deployment cost estimate between Test stand and customized test executive scenarios, from end user point of view ?
-AhmedHi Ahmed,
To answer your questions:
1) You will need to have a deployment (runtime) license for all the machines that you plan on running your application on. However, you will only need a full development license for the computer that you are actually developing the application on. You can see a full explanation of the different types of TestStand license in the document "When Should I Purchase a License for my TestStand System?"
2) In regards to calling executables, TestStand has a builtin step to call executables making it extremely easy to do. You can download an evaluation copy of TestStand here to see how easy it is to use as well as see the simple Call Executable Step.
3) In regards to price comparison between TestStand and a customized test application, this really depends on the project. Each project can have a different cost. However, you can take a look at this cost analysis to get a general idea of one example of cost comparison. This is just an example and also compares an older version of TestStand.
For more specific information about cost, please contact a sales representative at (888) 280-7645.

Unit Testing / Integration Testing
Hi all
Can somebody provide links to SAP testing....
Can anybody define & write down the step by step details on carrying out unit testing, integration testing and user acceptance testing...How it is done..which systems..tools..test scripts / test cases etchi,
For all kinds of testing the first thing is to enumerate the scenarions i.e preparing a list of scenarions that need to be tsted. this wud include the test data and also the desired results. templates are provided by the consultants to the end users. thse templates have a description of the scenarios, the data used, the transacion codes, the docs generated and if the desired results were obtained. thse need to be certified by the concerned.
integration and unit tsting can be done on the same or different clients depanding on system landscape. user accptance testing is generally after the interfration tests have been satisfactorily conducted. different knds of users are asked to do the tests once their id roles and profiles are created. this phase shud be handled as if live production envirionment.

Unit Tests / Integration tests
Hi Experts,
I am planning to enchance the existing extract structure in R/3 by including new fields.
After that, I need to enhance my structures and existing infoproviders in BW.
I have just finished the blue printing phase.
I would like to know what are the unit tests / test scenarios / test plans / test cases that I need to consider? Is there a list of standard unit tests?
Also, what about integration tests?hi,
Unit testing is the one in which the developer himself test the code.
In Unit testing the developer will test whether all the statements will execute based on different conditions.
There should not be any dead code after Unit test.
Dead Code means, for any given combination the control will not go to the statement.
you can go thru the following links
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SAP_Implementation
http://hosteddocs.ittoolbox.com/CM021805.pdf
Look at the below link
http://softwarefinder.mbtmag.com/search/for/Techrepublic-Cost-of-SAP-Implementation.html
refer to the following links.
http://blogs.ittoolbox.com/eai/implementation/archives/gui-windows-types-unit-test-template-12961
Integration testing is usually where the func team run processes end to end. If security is involved then generally you are validating that the roles contain required transactions, there aren't any gaps where roles can't support the processes. You may want to test org levels and +ve and -ve test controls here but it really depends on your implementation. Most security testing is usually done in UAT but you would preferably have func team using real end user roles in IT, though generally not in the first passes where they validate their config

Unit Testing, Null, and Warnings
I have a Unit Test that includes the following lines:
Dim nullarray As Integer()()
Assert.AreEqual(nullarray.ToString(False), "Nothing")
The variable "nullarray" will obviously be null when ToString is called (ToString is an extension method, which is the one I am testing). This is by design, because the purpose of this specific unit test is to make sure that my ToString extension
method handles null values the way I expect. The test runs fine, but Visual Studio 2013 gives includes the following warning:
Variable 'nullarray' is used before it has been assigned a value. A null reference exception could result at runtime.
This warning is to be expected, and I don't want to stop Visual Studio 2013 from showing this warning or any other warnings, just this specific case (and several others that involve similar scenarios). Is there any way to mark a line or segment
of code so that it is not checked for warnings? Otherwise, I will end up with lots of warnings for things that I am perfectly aware of and don't plan on changing.
Nathan Sokalski [email protected] http://www.nathansokalski.com/Hi Nathan Sokalski,
Variable 'nullarray' is used before it has been assigned a value. A null reference exception could result at runtime.
Whether the warning above was thrown when you built the test project but the test run successfully? I assume Yes.
Is there any way to mark a line or segment of code so that it is not checked for warnings?
There is no built-in way to make some code snippet or a code line not be checked during compiling, but we can configure some specific warnings not to be warned during compiling in Visual Basic through project Properties->Compile
tab->warning configurations box.
For detailed information, please see: Configuring Warnings in Visual Basic
Another way is to correct your code logic and make sure the code will not generate warning at runtime.
If I misunderstood you, please tell us what code you want it not to be checked for warnings with a sample so that we can further look at your issue.

Functional and performance testing on Forms 6.0 and higher
I want to make functional tests on GUI Oracle Forms ver. 6.0 and higher.
I'm thinking in a IBM tool called Rational Robot but it's seems not very good. HP also has this type of tool with forms support but I haven't tested it, yet.
Does Oracle have some tool like this ?
Thanks !Hi..
Following is the information that you need to know about how rules are used in Financial
Management. You use rules to automate the calculations of data within an application. You can
use rules for these purposes:
● Calculate data entry level amounts for a specific entity, scenario, and period.
● Prevent data entry for a specific cell in a specific entity, scenario, and period.
● Allow input at the Parent entity level.
● Calculate data that cannot be calculated through a hierarchical aggregation, such as ratios
or variance analysis.
● Perform allocations from a parent entity to a list of base entities.
● Perform complex currency conversions, calculate exchange rate differences, or perform
other calculations necessary for your consolidation.
● Define formulas to dynamically calculate accounts.
● Specify the accounts in the application that support intercompany transactions.
You can write rules in a text editor, or you can use the Financial Management Rules Editor to
create rules.
For more information on rules pls refer hfm_admin.pdf

Suggestions requested for Unit Testing process and build processes.
Hi All,
We are using WebLogic WorkShop 8.1 SP2 to build our WebApp. One thing I am trying
to get together is a "Best Practises" list for aspects of WorkShop developement,
particularly Unit Testing, Continous Build methodology, source control management
etc.I have been through the "Best Practises Guide" that comes in WorkShop help,
but it doesnt address these issues.This could help us all for future projects.
1)Could anyone give pointers on how to perform Unit Testing using either JUnit/JUnitEE
in the WorkShop realm, given that Controls cannot be accessed directly from PO
Test classes.
2)For a project of size say 5 developers ,does it make sense to have a nightly
build using tools like CruiseControl?We use CVS for our source control and its
working out pretty well, but given that we currently have no Unit Tests that can
be run after the build and that can provide some reports on what broke/what didnt?
I am sure we all would appreciate any suggestions and more questions on this topic.
Thanks,
Vik.Hi, Chris,
can you perhaps explain your solution in greater detail. I am really curious to
find a way to test controls.
"Chris Pyrke" <[email protected]> wrote:
>
I have written (well it's a bit of a dirty hack really) something that
lends itself
to the name ControlTest (it unit tests controls). Its a blend of Junit
and Cactus
with some of the source of each brutalised a bit to get things to work
(not much
- it was a couple of hours work, when I was supposed to be doing something
else).
To write a control test you code something like...
package com.liffe;
import com.liffe.controlunit.ControlTestCase;
import controls.Example;
public class TestExample extends ControlTestCase
private Example example = null;
public void setUp() {
example = (Example)getControl("example");
public void testExample() {
this.assertNotNull(example);
String result = example.getData();
assertEquals(result, "Happy as Larry");
Other tasks required to set up a test are creating a web project with
a jpf which
needs some cut and paste code (14 lines) in its begin method and a jsp
which is
also cut and paste (5 lines). (ie create a standard web project and paste
in 2
pieces of code)
In the web project you need to create a control (A) with an instance
name of controlContainer.
(if it's called something else the pasted in code will need changing
to reflect)
In this control you need to put an instance of TestContainerImpl and
any controls
that need testing.
You then need to add a method to the control (A) that looks like…
* @common:operation
public String controlTestRun(String theSuiteClassName, boolean xsl)
container.setControl("example", example);
return container.controlTestRun(theSuiteClassName, xsl);
You need to call container.setControl for each control being tested and
the object
'container' is the instance name of the TestContainerImpl that was put
in.
There are 4 jars (junit, cactus etc) that go in the library. You will
also need
the ControlUnitBase project (or maybe just it's jar).
To use you call a URL like:
http://localhost:7001/TestWeb/Controller.jpf?test=com.liffe.TestExample
TestWeb is the name I gave to my web project - this will be different
for each
test project
com.liffe.Example is the class above and will therefore be different
for each
test case.
You can also call
http://localhost:7001/TestWeb/Controller.jpf?test=com.liffe.TestExample&xsl=true
(Note the extra &xsl=true) and the browser will (if it can) render it
more prettily.
This seems to do the job quite nicely, but there are several caveats
I would hope
someone from bea would be able to address before I start using it widely.
1) To access the control you need to create it (eg as a subcontrol in
the control
(A) above.
To get it into the test case you need to pass it round as an Object (can't
return
Control from a control operation). As it's being passed around among
Java (POJO)
classes I'm assuming that control remains in the control container context
so
this is OK. It seems to work and the Object is some form of proxy as
any control
seems to be reproxied before the control is invoked from the test case.
2) If I'm testing controls called from a JPD then they either need to
be in a
control project (and my test cases called from a Web Project) which makes
for
a large increase in project numbers (we already have this and are trying
to resist
it) To avoid this - as a process project is a brain damaged web project
I simply
perform some brain surgery and augment the process project with some
standard
files found in any old web project. this means I can call the test JPF
from a
browser. This seems nasty, is there a better way?
3) I would like to be able to deliver without the test code. At the worst
the
code can be in place but must be inacessible in a production environment.
I don't
know how best to do this - any suggestions (without creating lots of
projects,
or lots of manual effort)
If anyone has read this far I would ask the question does this seem like
the kind
of thing that would be useful?
Hopefully a future version of workshop will have something to enable
unit testing
and this hacking will be unnecessary.
Could someone from BEA tell me if this is a dangerous way to do things?

Function Module to perform authorization and connect test for given RFC
Hello Experts,
I am working on request, which requires checking the RFC status.ie whether both Connection Test and Authorization test is OK for a given RFC.
Please help me in finding the function module for the above request.
Thanks in advance!!!!!!!
Thanks,
KarthikHi Karthik,
For connection test you can use RFC_PING as said by Thomas, for checking authorization using Uname/PWD etc use RFC_LOGIN.
My Bad - You cannot use RFC_LOGIN, you can try with RFC_LOGIN_INFO and check the parameter "RFC_LOGIN_COMPLETE".
