Universe with an excel datasource

Hello,
I am trying to build a universe based on an excel datasource.
I need to create an object "Age braket" with this kind of synthax :
case when Age < 20 then "0-20" else "+20" end
But I don't find what to use instead of "case when" to be compatible with an excel datasource.
Can you help me please ?
Thanks a lot for all your help.
I hope someone would have the response.
Regards
Emi

Hi,
Try this syntax:
IIF (Age < 20, '0-20', '+20')

Didier

  • How to create a Universe with excel?

    I want to create a universe using excel, but I don't know if it is possible.
    If it is possible should I save the excel file in an specific folder? where?
    Is it possible to create WebI reports using this universe?

    Hi Padawan,
    Creating a Business Objects Universe from an Excel File
    To create an Example Universe, we will first Extract data in a BusinessObjects report and
    save it to Excel. Letu2019s create a new Document from the Island Resort Marketing
    universe, and include All of the Resort attributes and Revenue.
    Generate a New Report from a Universe
    Generate a Standard Report
    Creating a Business Objects Universe from an Excel File
    Choose Island Resorts Marketing.
    Choose all of the Resort class, and the <Revenue> Measure object.
    Creating a Business Objects Universe from an Excel File
    Depending on your preference here, you can either choose Edit > Copy All or you can
    edit the Data Provider to export the results of this query to Excel.
    I like to use the Data Provider method, since this allows me to specify a path, etc. If you
    have used copy/paste, you will have one extra step that will be described, but not
    demonstrated.
    Export to Local File Format and make sure that the Format is listed as: Microsoft
    Excel 97 Files (*.xls). You may even want to Change the Path, or Rename the file at the
    Name line, or Browseu2026 to a new path.
    Creating a Business Objects Universe from an Excel File
    Once the Export has completed, launch Excel and browse open the file that was just
    created. If you have Copied/Pasted the values, then you should already be at the next
    step.
    If you havenu2019t done this already, browse over the Resorts.xls file and open it. If you
    have used Copy/Paste, just bring Excel to the foreground.
    Creating a Business Objects Universe from an Excel File
    Select all of the data. If you Copy/Pasted, make sure that you delete the Header that
    copied as well. With all of the data selected, make sure the range has a name. You will
    need to enter a name if youu2019ve pasted this, otherwise it should match the Filename minus
    the .xls. Save this if youu2019ve made any changes, or created this from scratch.
    Jump to the BusinessObjects Designer module and create a New Universe. Iu2019ve named
    my Universe: Resort Revenue
    Creating a Business Objects Universe from an Excel File
    Create a new Connection, and choose ODBC Drivers.
    Iu2019ve named my connection: Resorts_xls and chosen Generic ODBC Datasource for my
    Database engine. Click on the ODBC Admin button.
    Add a new System or User DSN. If you want this available for anyone on your machine,
    System DSN is the better bet. Select the appropriate tab and hit Addu2026
    Creating a Business Objects Universe from an Excel File
    Choose the Microsoft Excel Driver (*.xls) from the list of available data source drivers.
    Name the Data Source Name something that is meaningful, as it will be what appears in
    the Drop-Down menu. I named it Resorts.xls File and next weu2019ll choose Select
    Workbooku2026 and browse to the location of our Resorts.xls file.
    Unless youu2019ve changed the location, it should be located under:
    C:/Program Files/Business Objects/Business Objects 5.0/UserDocs/
    Select the XLS file and click u201COKu201D
    Creating a Business Objects Universe from an Excel File
    Verify that the path is set for the Workbook and click u201COKu201D
    You should see the new DSN created with the name of your Choosing. (In my case, itu2019s
    Resorts.xls File.) Go ahead and click u201COKu201D
    Back in the Designer Module, Choose the Resorts.xls File from the Data Source Name:
    drop-down list, and click u201COKu201D
    Creating a Business Objects Universe from an Excel File
    Once the connection has been set, click u201COKu201D and weu2019ll get to Universe Building.
    Double-Click in the Schema area in the designer, or use the Table Browser to add the
    Resorts table (named-range). Once they are added, feel free to move them over to create
    Classes and Objects off this table as well.
    Creating a Business Objects Universe from an Excel File
    Iu2019ve modified the SQL of the Revenue object, to turn this into an aggregate. Set the
    formula to: Sum(Resorts.Revenue) and click OK.
    My Final Universe looks like the above. Once this Universe is created, Save it and
    launch the Business Objects Reporter module.
    Creating a Business Objects Universe from an Excel File
    Select the newly created Resort Revenue universe and choose the objects youu2019d like to
    report on.
    Iu2019ve selected the <Country>, <Resort> and <Revenue> objects.
    Here are my final resultsu2026
    All the best.

  • Diff Ways to Create OLAP Universe using BI/BW DataSource?

    Hi Experts,
    I konw there are two diff ways to create olap universe using BI/BW datasource.
    1. Uisng InfoCube
    2. Using BEx Query..
    so.. I need you help to know when we use InfoCube and When We use BEx Query.
    Can you please explain me  in details and give me some pros and cons using each connection ..if there is any documentations please provide me ...
    Thanks

    Hi sap mdm1980,
    The characteristic InfoProvider (0TCTIFPROV) refers to the technical name
    of an InfoProvider. In BI, queries can be created on an InfoProvider or an
    InfoProvider can be used for reporting.
    An InfoProvider is generic term for all the DataTargets and Virtual Providers
    (VirtualProvider or MultiProvider). An InfoProvider may or may not contain data.
    Infocube is type of an infoprovider
    An InfoCube describes (from an analysis point of view) a self-contained dataset,
    for example, for a business-orientated area. You analyze this dataset in a BEx query.
    An InfoCube is a set of relational tables arranged according to the star schema:
    A large fact table in the middle surrounded by several dimension tables.
    InfoCubes are filled with data from one or more InfoSources or other InfoProviders.
    They are available as InfoProviders for analysis and reporting purposes.
    The data is stored physically in an InfoCube

  • How can I create a universe with the BO repository tables?

    Hi. I need make a universe with the BO repository tables, in order to get user information .
    But, when I try to insert tables in designer, using a new conecction to BO repository. I can't see tables.
    Someone can help me?

    The CMS repository is organized into both physical and virtual tables. Only the CMS can access the virtual tables, therefore you cannot create a universe on the CMS repository. You can access the CMS repository information through the Enterprise SDK.

  • Word 2010 with Embedded Excel table becomes oversized for RDP users

    I originally asked this question on the SharePoint Online forums as this was the first time we've seen this issue. Original Post
    Summarized: we have a Word template with embedded Excel table created in SharePoint Online, and when a RDP user opens it, the document correctly opens in the local version of Word 2010 (not Word Online).   When the table is edited, it becomes
    larger to the point you can no longer view the entire table.
    We have done some testing with Word 2010 outside of RDP and everything works correctly, the embedded Excel table doesn't become oversized and works as expected.  It seems to definitely be an issue with RDP and I've been looking for any assistance
    on resolving this issue.  I recently did some further testing and found that the only time the table becomes oversized and not view-able is when you copy and paste information from an existing 2003 Excel document.  I would think this is the issue,
    but it doesn't happen when working with Word and SharePoint outside of an RDP environment.
    The template is a .docx file. All RDP users are in a 2008 R2 environment.

    I did some testing over the weekend and the simple answer to your question - Not always.
    I found 2 variables which seem to cause this to happen:
    1) We have 2 TS servers - one with IE 9, which remains to maintain support for a legacy app which will not work with IE 10 or 11, and one with IE 10.
    2) Screen resolution of the client computer - it seemed that systems with video configurations which could not exceed the maximum of 1280x1024 (the same screen resolution as our TS servers) didn't experience the issue.  There were some laptops
    and higher end systems with widescreen monitors, where this was an issue.  They typically didn't have a 1280x1024 option; yet even if they did they would experience the same issue, just not as pronounced.
    It also seems to only occur when a user copies and pastes information from Excel 2010 into the embedded Excel table in Word 2010.  Again, only within RDP.  On those client computers which had the problem, I could perform the same function outside
    of RDP without any problems.  However, this is not an ideal format for the chefs as they will frequently be moving between different systems during the day.

  • How to Use Web Printing with Microsoft Excel

    Hello,
    In the recent How to paper on Use Web Printing with Microsoft Excel, describes few ABAP classes and methods. Can those classes be modified  to access much more Microsoft excel objects , such as Macro ? Does any body has tried in those lines ? Any suggestions is eagerly awaited.
    regs
    D Bret

    Hi BW people,
    Since we want to modify our reports for printing (and the How-To about enhancement of web printing does not really answer to our requirements) it seems that the Excel alternative is just what we were looking for.
    Unfortunately I have been working with these classes for 6 hours now to get a very simple Excel file, but without success. I did fix the bug like Thomas Kauffman told on the forum, changed the dataprovider and prefixes and I followed every single step of the How-To document(also the check of folder options to open/save the .xls file),... The only thing that happens: the URL has changed (bookmark) and the page is reloaded again.
    So no Excel file, neither a dialogue box. I also walked -a very long time- through the code (in debugging mode) starting from ZCL_RSR_XLS_HELP_WINDOW_PRINT->PROCESS_CMD but I can't find anything!
    Is there anybody with the same problem and -better- with a possible solution to it?
    Thank you very much in advance!

  • Cannot search file content on Word document with embedded Excel table

    Cannot search file content on Word document with embedded Excel table. I have Windows 8.1 64-bit and Office 2010 Professional. Only phrases from within Excel tables are not searchable. I have many Word documents with embedded Excel table.
    I use it for my invoices. Those invoices are converted to pdf to be sent via mail. Searching the same phrases in related pdf files Works fine. And yes, folders are indexed, searching service is active......... For example I can find all invoices that have
    specific address or name, which is located in word document, but cannot find invoices with specific item name or price, being that information is in embedded Excel table. (not linked, embedded). I thought that is a question for Windows forum, but guys directed
    me here on Office forum. To clarify, I do not use Ctrl+F inside some document, but Windows Search in my folders. Probably the same happens in Office 2013.
    Thank you.

    Hi, I have a lot of Word documents (invoices, offers). Main part of those documents is embedded Excel file because it is easier to do mathematics in Excel than in Word. There are columns with description, unit price, quantity, taxes... Now, I need
    to find who bought HP switch 2530-24G last year. I open folder with last year invoices and search "2530". Cannot find any. But if that document was converted to pdf for mail, than I can find that phrase. Windows search does not work for content if the content
    is in embedded file.

  • Importing Word Files With linked Excel files

    I have a word document with linked excel files that appear as linked images in word. When these images are clicked it opens it up in Excel where I can edit them which is fine. However, I would like to import the word doc into adobe indesign with editable tables - not images. Is there a way I can do this?
    Importing, exporting, converting. Nothing seems to work besides manually bring in the separate excel doc in one by one but that will be very time consuming at my end.
    Thanks for any feedback.

    AFAIK, that won't work. InDesign doesn't support OLE.
    You may need to convert those Excel tables to Word tables before placing into ID.

  • I have an iPad air and have downloaded the microsoft app excel.  I have an email with an excel attachment.  When I "tap to download" the attachment, it auto converts to a PDF file.  I want it to open in excel.  Please help.

    I have an iPad air and have downloaded the microsoft app excel.  I have an email with an excel attacment.  When I "tap to download" the attachment, it automatically converts to a PDF file and opens as a "view only" document.  I want it to open with the excel app so I can see and update the spreadsheet.  Please help.  Thanks!

    If Excel works as do other apps, you should be able to tap and hold on the attachment and then select "Open in Excel" in the window that will open. Note that you need to be subscribed to and signed into Office 365 to be able to edit documents in Microsoft's apps.

  • How To... We Printing with Microsoft Excel in 7.0 / 2004s

    We implemented the How To... Web Printing with Microsoft Excel in BW 3.5.  We have upgraded a test box to 7.0 ( 2004s ) and the functionality is no longer working.  We have buttons in our web templates which call the help service and when they are clicked nothing happens.
    An example of the code we are using is:
    <A href="<sap_bw_url cmd='PROCESS_HELP_WINDOW' help_service='HELP_SERVICE_PRINT' item='GR1TABLE' subcmd='PRINT_EXCEL'>">
    Have other folks successfully continued to use this functionality in 2004s?  I know that formatted printing is an option in the new version but we intend to do a technical upgrade first and subsequently leverage this new functionality.
    Thanks!

    Thanks for the help.  I didn't think that there would be an SAP note for the How To but note 995142 has the exact changes required.  Thanks for pointing that out.

  • BOXI3.0: How to create Universe with a large system

    Hello there.
    If you guys have experiences to develop Universe with a large system, please share it with me on how you start to create the universe and the development phase.
    I mean how you guys seperate it example by phase, and put it together until finish.
    I am new with Universe Designer and I have this one large in house system and need to create universe so that users can access the data.
    Beside your experiences, you may include your comment, opinion and suggestion.
    Best regards,
    Alias

    Hi guys.
    I need your expertise.
    I have many tables in the universe. Some of the tables have 1-CREATEDBY_T and 2-MODIFYBY_T fields.
    these 2 fields must be linked to one table called Employee table to EMPID_T field.
    CREATEDBY_T, MODIFYBY_T and EMPID_T have the same data. Example "006862".
    After I linked 1 and 2 fields to EMPID_T.
    Then at Inforview, I selected NAME_T from Employee table together with CREATEDBY_T, MODIFYBY_T from other tables but the result in inforview is no good.
    NAME_T field cannot go in  together with CREATEDBY_T, MODIFYBY_T.
    Hope you guys can understand the issue here.
    Can anyone help me on this?
    Best regards,

  • Get default audit field behavior with an external datasource

    Others have posted and blogged extensively about creating a robust audit trail for LightSwitch. However, if you are looking to achieve the default behavior with an external datasource, you could simply add the fields to your database
    and write code in every entity's Inserting() and Updating() method.  However, if you have many tables in your app this can be a lot of work.  Here is a very easy way to DRY this up.
    1. Add the audit fields to your tables
    - CreatedBy
    - DateCreated
    - UpdatedBy
    - DateUpdated
    2. Use this code in the DataService class for your datasource.
    using System;
    using System.Collections.Generic;
    using System.Linq;
    using System.Text;
    using Microsoft.LightSwitch;
    using Microsoft.LightSwitch.Security.Server;
    namespace LightSwitchApplication
    public partial class ApplicationDataService
    partial void SaveChanges_Executing()
    EntityChangeSet changes = this.Details.GetChanges();
    IReadOnlyCollection<IEntityObject> addedEntities = changes.AddedEntities;
    IReadOnlyCollection<IEntityObject> modifiedEntities = changes.ModifiedEntities;
    if (addedEntities.Any())
    foreach (IEntityObject entity in addedEntities)
    InsertAuditFields(entity);
    if (modifiedEntities.Any())
    foreach (IEntityObject entity in modifiedEntities)
    UpdateAuditFields(entity);
    private void InsertAuditFields(IEntityObject entity)
    string userName = this.Application.User.FullName;
    DateTimeOffset currentDateTime = DateTimeOffset.Now;
    entity.Details.Properties["CreatedBy"].Value = userName;
    entity.Details.Properties["DateCreated"].Value = currentDateTime;
    entity.Details.Properties["UpdatedBy"].Value = userName;
    entity.Details.Properties["DateUpdated"].Value = currentDateTime;
    private void UpdateAuditFields(IEntityObject entity)
    string userName = this.Application.User.FullName;
    DateTimeOffset currentDateTime = DateTimeOffset.Now;
    entity.Details.Properties["UpdatedBy"].Value = userName;
    entity.Details.Properties["DateUpdated"].Value = currentDateTime;
    Hopefully this helps someone.

    This version will check whether the table has the audit properties, thus allowing you to opt in.  Paul's solution is going to be better in the long run because it checks at compile time.  This was meant to be a quick way to get the default behavior.
    This is not a substitute for a full audit capability (see Paul's blog) if that is your requirement.
    using System;
    using System.Collections.Generic;
    using System.Linq;
    using System.Text;
    using Microsoft.LightSwitch;
    using Microsoft.LightSwitch.Security.Server;
    using Microsoft.LightSwitch.Details;
    namespace LightSwitchApplication
    public partial class ApplicationDataService

    EntityChangeSet changes = this.Details.GetChanges();
    IReadOnlyCollection<IEntityObject> addedEntities = changes.AddedEntities;

    if (AuditProperties(entity))
    InsertAuditFields(entity);
    if (modifiedEntities.Any())
    foreach (IEntityObject entity in modifiedEntities)
    if (AuditProperties(entity))
    UpdateAuditFields(entity);

    bool hasAuditProperties = true;
    bool createdBy = entity.Details.Properties.Contains("CreatedBy");
    bool dateCreated = entity.Details.Properties.Contains("DateCreated");
    bool updatedBy = entity.Details.Properties.Contains("UpdatedBy");
    bool dateUpdated = entity.Details.Properties.Contains("DateUpdated");
    bool[] checkForAuditProperties = new bool[]
    createdBy,
    dateCreated,
    updatedBy,
    dateUpdated
    if (checkForAuditProperties.Any(a => a == false))
    hasAuditProperties = false;
    return hasAuditProperties;
    private void InsertAuditFields(IEntityObject entity)
    string userName = this.Application.User.FullName;
    DateTimeOffset currentDateTime = DateTimeOffset.Now;
    entity.Details.Properties["CreatedBy"].Value = userName;

    entity.Details.Properties["UpdatedBy"].Value = userName;

  • Datasource works with java code but not with sql:query dataSource=...

    Hello everyone! I have a small problem with binding a DataSource object via JNDI and retrieving it in a web application. This is the case:
    I did not wish to make the DataSource available through the server.xml, because I want to create applications that can be bundled in a simple .war file. So I create the DataSource when the context is created in the contextInitialized() method of ServletContextListener like this:
    InitialContext initialContext = new InitialContext();
    Properties properties = new Properties();
    properties.setProperty( "driverClassName", "com.mysql.jdbc.Driver" );
    properties.setProperty( "factory",   "org.apache.commons.dbcp.BasicDataSourceFactory" );
    properties.setProperty( "username", servletContext.getInitParameter( "dbUser" ) );
    properties.setProperty( "password", servletContext.getInitParameter( "dbPass" ) );
    properties.setProperty( "url",      servletContext.getInitParameter( "dbUrl" ) );
    properties.setProperty( "defaultAutoCommit", "false" );
    properties.setProperty( "maxActive",         "25" );
    properties.setProperty( "initialSize",       "15" );
    properties.setProperty( "maxIdle",           "10" );
    properties.setProperty( "testOnBorrow",      "true" );
    properties.setProperty( "testOnReturn",      "true" );
    properties.setProperty( "testWhileIdle",     "true" );
    properties.setProperty( "validationQuery",   "SELECT 1" );
    properties.setProperty( "removeAbandoned",   "true" );
    DataSource dataSource = BasicDataSourceFactory.createDataSource( properties );
    initialContext.rebind( "daers", dataSource );Please comment if you think this is a bad idea!
    All the above seems to work fine. When I try to retrieve the DataSource in a .jsp file then it all works fine like this:
    <% try {
            javax.naming.InitialContext initialContext = new javax.naming.InitialContext();
            java.sql.Connection conn = ( ( javax.sql.DataSource )initialContext.lookup( "daers" )).getConnection();
            java.sql.Statement statement = conn.createStatement();
            java.sql.ResultSet resultSet = statement.executeQuery("SELECT users.name FROM users;");
            while (resultSet.next()) {
                System.out.println(resultSet.getString(1));
        } catch ( java.sql.SQLException e ) {
            e.printStackTrace();
        } catch ( javax.naming.NamingException e ) {
            e.printStackTrace();
    %>But when I try to execute the same sql query through the appropriate JSTL taglib I get a:
    javax.servlet.ServletException: Unable to get connection, DataSource invalid: "java.sql.SQLException: No suitable driver"The JSTL code I use is this:
    <sql:query dataSource = "daers" var = "query" scope = "page">
            SELECT users.name
            FROM users
        </sql:query>I do put both of the two above pieces of code in the same .jsp page and the first works but the second causes the exception...
    Any clues..?
    Is it illegal to lookup a DataSource in <sql: dataSource=...> if the DataSource is not registered in the server.xml file..?
    If so, do I have any alternatives (like putting the DataSource as a servlet context variable)..?

    I added a response in your original message:
    http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9629812
    Let's keep to it since splitting things across two posts might be confusing.

  • Convert an integer value that was created with the Excel DATEVALUE formula to a valid date?

    Hello everyone,
    How can I convert an integer value that was created with the Excel DATEVALUE formula to a valid date in SSIS?
    Is this even possible?
    For example:
    =DATEVALUE("8/22/2008") will format the cell to display 39682.
    Reading the column as a string to get the int value (39682) - how can I turn this into a valid date using SSIS and then importing the real date to sql server?
    Thank you!

    You can use Script component for this and convert your integer values to Date. An example here is following:
    CultureInfo provider = CultureInfo.InvariantCulture;
    string dateString = "08082010";
    string format = "MMddyyyy";
    DateTime result = DateTime.ParseExact(dateString, format, provider);

  • Launch a Crystal Report Based on a Bus. Objects Universe with code

    Post Author: BobM
    CA Forum: .NET
    Launch a Crystal Report Based on a Bus. Objects Universe with code
    We have purchased Business Objects Enterprise XI R2 and have designed a universe.  We have hundreds of scheduled reports that have been configured through the InfoView.  The problem is that we run these reports on a very odd date schedule and it is extremely cumbersome to go into these report definitions and change the dates in InfoView.
    We would like to be able to store all the report parameters in a table (outside of the BO universe) along with the date and time we would like it to run.  All of this would need to be tagged with the report name so we know what report we are referring to.  Then we would like to sweep this table periodically (or use some other triggering mechanism) and launch the reports as specified (hopefully) using an API/SDK (like the one that used to be available with Crystal) to launch the .RPT file and pass all of the appropriate parameters, and possibly the credentials if need be.
    In short we want to roll our own report scheduler due to some limitations we have found in the InfoView scheduler.
    My main question is, does an API/SDK exist that can launch a crystal report that is based on a Business Objects Universe?  As I had stated, it needs to be able to pass parameters in the report call.  Based on my previous projects using Crystal connected directly to a SQL Server DB, I beleive this is possible, but I would like to hear from others that may be doing something similar with a Business Objects Universe back end.
    We are using Crystal Reports XI R2.  Just to be clear, all of the functionality I specified up to the point where the report needs to be called is not an issue, we know how to do all of that.
    Thanks in advance,Bob
    Code; API; Business Objects; Universe; Crystal; BO Enterprise X11; Crystal Reports XI

    With the code, you've presumably logged on to the database. To insert objects on to a new report you'd want to use code along the following lines:
    private void AddTableFromDataSet(ref CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.ReportDocument rpt, System.Data.DataSet ds)
    ISCDReportClientDocument rasReport = rpt.ReportClientDocument;
    // Convert the DataSet to an ISCRDataset object (something the ISCDReportClientDocument can understand)
    CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.DataDefModel.ISCRDataSet rasDS;
    rasDS = CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.DataSetConversion.DataSetConverter.Convert(ds);
    // Add the dataset as a data source to the report
    rasReport.DatabaseController.AddDataSource((object)rasDS);
    // Add a field to the report canvas
    // Note: This is quick and dirty. No positioning, resizing, formatting, etc.
    CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.Controllers.ISCRResultFieldController rfc;
    CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.DataDefModel.ISCRTable crTable;
    CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.DataDefModel.ISCRField crField;
    rfc = rasReport.DataDefController.ResultFieldController;
    crTable = rasReport.Database.Tables[0];
    crField = crTable.DataFields[2]; // Hardcoded field "Customer Name" in the Customer table from Xtreme Sample Database
    rfc.Add(-1, crField);
