Unix command Line input and output

Has anybody used Forte for now window application. Passing values through
command line and get put as a return value. I am able to call Forte and
pass input values but I do not know who to get the return value. Here is
the shell script that I am running:
#!/bin/csh
# Ensure that the correct number of parameters were supplied #
if (${#argv} < 2) then
then
echo "USAGE: ecapp Method Number Parm1 Parm2"
exit 1
endif
ftexec -fi bt:$FORTE_ROOT/userapp/mwapp/cl0/mwapp_0 -fnw -fterm $1 $2
The start class will return a string value after processing the request. I
can use task.lgr.putline to output to the screen but that is not what I
would like to do. I want to get the return value assigned to a variable in
the shell script. One thing I do not know is that if Forte return a string
that the script can use. Any help would be appreciated.
thanks in advance

Hi,
Did you try to set Task.Part.OperatingSystem.ExitStatus ? But, the ExitStatus is an integer.
If you really need a string, I would use ExitStatus to know how it finished and an environment variable (Task.Part.OperatingSystem.SetEnv() to position it in your Tool code) to read the string back in the script.
Hope this helps,

  • FINALLY INPUTTING and OUTPUTTING Annotations!

    Ok, before everyone thinks that this is a very bad solution, I have to tell that I`m no programmer and my knowledge of PostgreSQL, Ruby or any other language is very poor.
    With useful help from Jamie Hodge, fbm and Nicholas Stokes (mainly)
    I could manage to write a command for inputting and outputting from Final Cut Server Annotations.
    So lets go to the fun part:
    INPUTTING:
    1- Create a Response called "Annotations IN" (or whatever you want):
    a - Reponse Action: "Run an external script or command"
    b - Run Script > *Commnad Path: /Library/Application Support/Final Cut Server/Final Cut Server.bundle/Contents/Resources/sbin/fcsvr_run
    Command Parameters: psql px pxdb -c "COPY pxtcmdvalue FROM '/FCSRV/annotation-in.txt' USING DELIMITERS '|';"
    2 - Create a poll Watcher with name: "Watch for Annotations IN"
    a - Enable: true
    b - Monitor Address: Chooses a Device (create a new one or use a tmp one) and path to where you`ll going to put a txt file with the annotations.
    c - Response List: Choose the Response you created "Annotations IN" in my case.
    d - Event Type Filter: Created, Modified
    e - Poll Watcher > Listing Frequency: 2 (or any number of seconds you feel like it).
    Listing multiple: 2
    Wildcard include Filter: *.txt (or any custom extensions you want)
    3 - Create a txt file and use this as a template:
    {ASSET_ENTITYID}|1527|{TCIN}/(30000,1001)|{TCOUT}/(30000,1001)|{Annotation}|{USE RID}|{DATE}
    Where:
    {ASSET_ENTITYID} = Is the entityid of your asset. You can find what number it is by issuing:
    /Library/Application\ Support/Final\ Cut\ Server/Final\ Cut\ Server.bundle/Contents/Resources/sbin/fcsvr_run psql px pxdb -c "SELECT pxmdvalue.entityid, pxmdvalue.value AS asset_name FROM pxmdvalue INNER JOIN pxentity ON pxentity.entityid = pxmdvalue.entityid WHERE pxmdvalue.fieldid='1543' AND pxentity.address LIKE '/asset/%';"
    This will output ALL your assets, so if you know the name or want to parse the name you can use:
    /Library/Application\ Support/Final\ Cut\ Server/Final\ Cut\ Server.bundle/Contents/Resources/sbin/fcsvr_run psql px pxdb -c "SELECT pxmdvalue.entityid, pxmdvalue.value AS asset_name FROM pxmdvalue INNER JOIN pxentity ON pxentity.entityid = pxmdvalue.entityid WHERE pxmdvalue.fieldid='1543' AND pxmdvalue.value='ASSETNAME' AND pxentity.address LIKE '/asset/%';"
    Where in ASSETNAME you`ll have to put your Asset Name without extension.
    {TCIN} and {TCOUT} is, of course, the TC`s points. In the form of: HH:MM:SS;FF
    {Annotation} is the commentary.
    {USERID} (in my case was 1)
    {DATE}: This one is tricky. My example is 2009-03-15 19:31:15.839795-03
    So is in the form YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM:SS.????? I really don`t know the rest. Could be milliseconds?
    Of course one can write a script to translate everything from a txt file like:
    ASSETNAME | TCIN | TCOUT | ANNOTATIONS | USER
    But as I`ve said I`m no programmer
    Ok.. now the time for the OUTPUT:
    The command-line is:
    /Library/Application\ Support/Final\ Cut\ Server/Final\ Cut\ Server.bundle/Contents/Resources/sbin/fcsvr_run psql px pxdb -c "SELECT pxmdvalue.value AS Asset_NAME, pxtcmdvalue.value, pxtcmdvalue.begintc, pxtcmdvalue.endtc FROM pxmdvalue INNER JOIN pxtcmdvalue ON pxmdvalue.entityid = pxtcmdvalue.entityid WHERE pxmdvalue.value='ASSETNAME';"
    Where ASSETNAME is the Asset name without the extension.
    Or issuing the following to OUTPUT ANNOTATIONS from ALL assets:
    /Library/Application\ Support/Final\ Cut\ Server/Final\ Cut\ Server.bundle/Contents/Resources/sbin/fcsvr_run psql px pxdb -c "select * from pxtcmdvalue;"
    Adding "> /PATHTO_WHERE_IN_WANT/ANNOTATIONSOUTPUT.TXT" at the end will put all output into a txt file.
    It`s possible (in theory) to:
    1- Create a boolean md field in FCSRV called "EXPORT Annotations" (don`t choose lookup)
    2- add or create a md group called "Export Annotations" and add the above md field to it (don`t choose lookup)
    3- Add "Export Annotations" md field to Asset Filter md group
    4- Make a Response for Running external command. Command path: /Library/Application Support/Final Cut Server/Final Cut Server.bundle/Contents/Resources/sbin/fcsvr_run
    Command Parameters: psql px pxdb -c 'SELECT pxmdvalue.value AS Asset_NAME, pxtcmdvalue.value, pxtcmdvalue.begintc, pxtcmdvalue.endtc FROM pxmdvalue INNER JOIN pxtcmdvalue ON pxmdvalue.entityid = pxtcmdvalue.entityid WHERE pxmdvalue.value=[FileName];' > ~/Desktop/ann-out.txt
    (I`m having problem with this, it doesn`t work).
    5- Make a Subscription that if Export Annotations modified = true, trigger if changed and trigger the Response above.
    6- Add exporting annotations md group to Media md set.
    In theory it`s possible to modify the FinalCutServerIntegrationSample get and input annotations instead of adding another "comment" field to md group list.
    Few!
    Ok so please help beautify this out!
    This will be very useful for a lot of people.... We know that it`s only a matter of time to FCSVR have this function built-in... but this "time" could be years.
    So let`s start ourselves!
    Thank you very much!!
    Regards!

  • How to control (the input and output) EXE file after I call it using exec?

    Hi,
    I knew that I can use runtime.exec() to call one EXE file, and this works. But this EXE has two characteristics:
    1. After this exe starts, it asks user to input number such as 1 or 2 onto computer screen, then press return. Then the exe will start the calculation.
    2. after it starts calculation, it prints 3 columns of numbers onto the screen.
    My two questions are:
    1. How to use java to input the number such as 1 or 2 automatically? this EXE can not work like this in DOS command line:
    C:> file.exe parameter
    The parameter is the number such as 1 or 2 that I wanna input.
    2. how to redirect the 3 columns of numbers from computer screen to txt file?
    My colleague can solve these two questions using Mathematica. So I know that definitely there is at least one solution for it. I just can not do it using Java. This wierd exe file bothered me a lot and I really wish that I can get help from someone in java community.
    Thank you!
    Tony

    When you call Runtime.exec, you get a Process object. (I presume something similar happens when you use ProcessBuilder.) Process has methods with names getOutput, getInput, and getError. These correspond to the standard input, standard output, and standard error streams of the spawned process.
    You can read and write to the process on the streams corresponding to input and output that the process writes to the console.
    [add]
    In fact, you should be grabbing and reading the output/error streams anyway, because of the points raised by the Traps article. Google "Java Runtime exec traps" and you'll probably get a link to this JavaWorld article, which describes common Runtime.exec problems and how to solve them.

  • Help Please: How to invoke unix command lines from java?

    I have read past topics. Those are really helpful, but I still haven't got my job done. I tried the following:
    String command1 = "ls -la > ls1.txt";
    Runtime.getRuntime().exec(command1);
    String command2 = "tcsh -c ls -la > ls2.txt";
    Runtime.getRuntime().exec(command2);
    String command4 = "cp keywords.txt copyversion1.txt";
    Runtime.getRuntime().exec(command4);
    String command5 = "tcsh -c cp keywords.txt copyversion2.txt";
    Runtime.getRuntime().exec(command5);
    String command6 = "tcsh -c 'cp keywords.txt copyversion3.txt'";
    Runtime.getRuntime().exec(command6);
    Only "command4" works. Any input will be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you very much Gautam. Your solution certainly works. If you don't mind, I would like to ask you (or anybody who is willing to answer) something else. I am trying to run other types of unix command lines as well. I thought that the format you gave would work for everything. But it doesn't seem so:
    String command1[] = {"tcsh", "-c", "ls -la > ls1.txt "}; // this works as you suggested
    Runtime.getRuntime().exec(command1);
    String command12[] = {"tcsh", "-c", "lynx -dump http://www.yahoo.com > webpage.txt"}; //working fine.
    Runtime.getRuntime().exec(command12);
    String command10[] = {"tcsh", "-c", "ngram-count -text keywords.txt -lm LM10 &"}; //doesn't work
    Runtime.getRuntime().exec(command10);
    String command[] = {"tcsh", "-c", "/u/drspeech/sun4/bin/ngram-count -text keywords.txt -lm LM0 &"}; // doesn't work
    Runtime.getRuntime().exec(command);
    String command13[] = {"tcsh", "-c", "ngc -text keywords.txt -lm LM13"}; // doesn't work
    Runtime.getRuntime().exec(command13);
    String command8 = "ngram-count -text keywords.txt -lm LM8 &"; //doesn't work
    Runtime.getRuntime().exec(command8);
    String command9 = "/u/drspeech/sun4/bin/ngram-count -text keywords.txt -lm LM9 &"; //doesn't work
    Runtime.getRuntime().exec(command9);
    I tried "commandd1" and "command12". Those worked fine. No problemo. However, there's someting else I need to get done for my job; that is "command10". But it just didn't work. I thought maybe, it's because "ngram-count" is not part of the standard UNIX commands. So, I thought I might just add another alias for it in the ".cshrc" file and call it "ngc" instead. Then I tried to call the alias "ngc" instead. But it didn't work also. Then I thought, maybe, I should call it by referencing it from its original directory "/u/drspeech/sun4/bin/ngram-count". That didn't work either. I tried a couple of other combinations. None worked. I would really like to see how to solve this.

  • Method to restart Oracle Apps 11i OPP via Unix command line

    Hi All,
    Does any one knows if there any way to restart Oracle Apps 11i Output Post Processor (OPP) via the UNIX command line?
    Thanks

    Oracle-User wrote:
    Do you recommend that I set the profile option Concurrent: OPP Response Timeout to a higher value instead of increasing OPP Processes from 1 to 2? Yes.
    I'm thinking that increasing OPP Response Timeout to a higher value will not solve our issue as it seems that once we get our first OPP Timeout error, all of the requests that need the OPP fail. We've had this occur on a Saturday, which is a day where the volume of jobs that need the OPP is very low. The error you are getting is related to the timeout and it has nothing to do with the number of OPP processes you are running on. Please set this profile option and check then (after you bounce the OPP).

  • Synchronizing analog input and output

    I am in the middle of converting some Traditional NI-DAQ code to the
    DAQmx API (I am using C++).  Most of it is going quite well: my
    code complexity has been greatly reduced and (since upgrading to 7.4)
    my CPU usage has plummeted.  However, in one particular case I
    need my input and output buffers to be synchronized.  I.e. sample
    0 of my input buffer should be read at the same instant sample 0 of my
    output buffer went out on the line.  In Traditional NI-DAQ, I
    synchronized my input and output start triggers using the following
    method (which I believe I found in an example somewhere):
    error = Select_Signal(addr, ND_PFI_6, ND_OUT_START_TRIGGER, ND_LOW_TO_HIGH);
    error = Select_Signal(addr, ND_IN_START_TRIGGER, ND_PFI_6, ND_LOW_TO_HIGH);
    This then allowed me to setup my input thread, then initialize
    everything in my output thread and when my output got the start
    command, so did my input.  The result was that I could perfectly
    match buffers of output data to buffers of input data (after taking all
    the appropriate buffering into account).
    When I try the same method with the DAQmxConnectTerms function, my
    buffers don't line up.  They are off by 15-20 ms out of a 400ms
    buffer (sampling at 10kHz).  I tried cutting out the middle man of
    PFI6 with similar results.  So my current "synchronize" block
    looks like this:
    error = m_fnConnectTerms("/Dev1/ao/StartTrigger", "/Dev1/ai/StartTrigger", 0);
    I get no error.  This also seems to cause my output loop to hang
    after a few seconds, although that could be a side effect of something
    else that I haven't tracked down yet.  Is there a better way to do
    what I'm trying to do here?  Perhaps it is a misunderstanding of
    the way buffering works on the M series cards (I am currently using a
    6221).

    Don't use Connect Terminals. Use the technique shown in this example program
    C:\Program Files\National Instruments\NI-DAQ\Examples\DAQmx ANSI C\Synchronization\Multi-Function\ContAI-Read Dig Chan
    which is the sharing of sample clocks via the DAQmxCfqSampClkTiming function where the sample clock source of one task is set to the clock of the other task.  This example slaves a digital input task to an analog input task but the idea is the same for your application.

  • Can you perform simultaneous timed digital input and output using a PCI-6120?

    Is it possible to do simultaneous timed digital input and output using a PCI-6120? It seems that timed digital operations require using the group read/write commands, which utilize an entire port. Since the PCI-6120 has only 1 digital I/O port, I would like to be able to use 2 lines as outputs and 1 line as input, and do both in a deterministic fashion. i.e. create a digital signal with known pulse widths and read an input line at a known time after the outputs were set. Is this possible to do with only one digital I/O port?

    Hello,
    This can be done in LabVIEW. There is actually an example that installs with NI-DAQ.
    Below is a link to a Knowledge Base that explains how to find the correlated digital I/O examples.

  • Using Unix Command Line to force logoff of other users

    Hello - I am the administrator for my family's Mac (OS X - 10.4.8). Four of us in the family share the system. Frequently, my family members forget to logoff. I would like to be able to force them off via the Unix command line. Can't I sign on as root and execute a "forced logoff" type of command?

    Thanks to Mihalis and Jarik for the additional info.
    I'm back now with a question. I have a user named "visitor" logged on. I issued a killall command which killed all the users processes except one. Using /Applications/Activity Monitor.app, I can see the process is "loginwindow" and it is owned by visitor.
    However,
    ps -u visitor
    reveals no running processes. Assuming I only had command-line access (no GUI to use Activity Monitor.app) and had multiple users logged in, how can I discover which loginwindow PID belongs to visitor?
    msq
    EDIT: I went ahead and sudo kill PID the loginwindow process owned by visitor and realized that
    ps -axj | grep visitor
    worked to reveal the loginwindow process owned by visitor. But when I logged visitor in (Fast User Switching) and ran sudo killall the Activity Monitor.app identifies the loginwindow as being owned by root but ps -axj | grep visitor shows the process belonging to visitor.
    Something weird in the depths of Leopard's UNIX land, but I think I can find my way around now.
    Thanks, everyone.

    Hi,

    I am attaching the basic vi that i created along with the link that i followed for converting labview code to mex files.

    I am using labview 7.1
    Thanks

    Yes, you've made a very basic mistake. You have front panel controls and indicators but none of them are connected to the VI's connector pane. right click on the VI's icon and select "Show Connector". You use the wiring tool to select a connection there and then select a control or indicator. Use the on-line help and look up the topic "connector panes". There are some sub-topics on how to assign, confirm, delete, etc.

  • Simple input and output in a loop

    I'm trying to get some user input in a loop. This is a simplification.
    import java.util.Scanner;
    public class Main {
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            Scanner input = new Scanner(System.in);
            for (int i = 0; i < 3; i++) {
                System.out.println("Enter a string:");
                String myString = input.nextLine();
                System.out.println("output: " + myString);
    }In NetBeans, it usually runs fine for a few loops, but eventually (running the program 5 times or so) I get output like this:
    run:
    Enter a string:
    1
    output: 1
    Enter a string:
    output: 2
    Enter a string:
    2
    3
    output: 3
    BUILD SUCCESSFUL (total time: 9 seconds)It starts writing the prompt before the output and gets all jumbled. The problem is worse if I have more input and output statments in the loop. I thought it might just be a timing issue, but it doesn't matter how fast or slow I enter the information. After a few successive runs, the output always gets out of order. How can I keep in line?

    hi!
    why dont you try using printf it will give you a better formating capasities.
    it work like this.
    import java.util.Scanner;
    public class Main {
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            Scanner input = new Scanner(System.in);
            for (int i = 0; i < 3; i++) {
                System.out.println("Enter a string:");
                String myString = input.nextLine();
                System.out.printf("output: %s  \n" ,  myString );  // the %s is the place the string will apear
                                                                                       //and the \n is a escape caracter that creates a new line.
    }if you need more help with printf read this:

  • R12 - Input and Output Tax Classification Codes in Invoices Workbench

    Hello,
    After upgrade from 11i to R12, in invoices workbench, the Tax Classification Code LoV (invoice line field) contains taxes that formerly were both input and output.
    In the E-Business Tax Implementation guide says that :
    Release 11i tax codes and tax groups migrate to E-Business Tax as tax classification
    codes. Payables and Purchasing tax codes migrate as tax classification codes under
    ZX_INPUT_CLASSIFICATIONS. Receivables and Projects tax codes migrate as tax
    classification codes under ZX_OUTPUT_CLASSIFICATIONS.
    In invoices workbench form (APXINWKB), I looked in the record group for the LoV and the values are all from the same view zx_input_classifications_v.
    SELECT lookup_code, meaning, description
      FROM zx_input_classifications_v
    WHERE lookup_type = 'ZX_INPUT_CLASSIFICATIONS'
       AND org_id IN (:inv_sum_folder.org_id, -99)
       AND enabled_flag = 'Y'
       AND nvl(:inv_sum_folder.invoice_date, sysdate)
                    between start_date_active and nvl(end_date_active, :inv_sum_folder.invoice_date)
    UNION
    SELECT lookup_code, meaning, description
      FROM zx_input_classifications_v
    WHERE lookup_type = 'ZX_WEB_EXP_TAX_CLASSIFICATIONS'
       AND org_id IN (:inv_sum_folder.org_id, -99)
       AND enabled_flag = 'Y'
       AND nvl(:inv_sum_folder.invoice_date, sysdate)
                    between start_date_active and nvl(end_date_active, :inv_sum_folder.invoice_date)
    It follows that some formerly Payables and Purchasing tax codes were migrated as 'ZX_INPUT_CLASSIFICATIONS' or 'ZX_WEB_EXP_TAX_CLASSIFICATIONS'.
    Anybody knows how is the 11i tax code data migrated to R12 ? Is this the intended behavior ?
    Thanks

    I'm not a functional expert but I would suggest reviewing the following docs and see if it helps.

  • Java Input and Output streams

    I have maybe simple question, but I can`t really understand how to figure out this problem.
    I have 2 applications(one on mobile phone J2ME, one on computer J2SE). They commuinicate with Input and Output Streams. Everything is ok, but all communication is in sequence, for example,
    from mobile phone:
    out.writeUTF("GETIMAGE")
    getImage();
    form computer:
    reply = in.readUTF();
    if(reply.equals("GETIMAGE")) sendimage()
    But I need to include one simple thing in my applications - when phone rings there is function in MIDlet - pauseApp() and i need to send some signal to Computer when it happens. But how can i catch this signal in J2SE, because mayble phone rings when computer is sending byte array? and then suddnely it receives command "RINGING"....?
    Please explain how to correcly solve such problem?
    Thanks,
    Ervins

    Eh?
    TCP/IP is not a multiplexed protocol. And why would you need threads or polling to decipher a record-oriented input stream?
    Just send your images in packets with a type byte (1=command, 2=image, &c) and a packet length word. At the receiver:
    int type = dataInputStream.read();
    int length = dataInputStream.readInt();
    byte[] buffer = new byte[length];
    int count, read = 0;
    while ((count = dataInputStream.read(buffer,count,buffer.length)) > 0)
    read += count;
    // At this point we either have:
    // type == -1 || count = -1 => EOF
    // or count > 0, type >= 0, and buffer contains the entire packet.
    switch (type)
    case -1:
    // EOF, not shown
    break;
    case COMMAND: // assuming a manifest constant somewhere
    // process incoming command
    break;
    case IMAGE:
    // process or continue to process incoming image
    break;
    }No threads, no polling, and nuthin' up my sleeve.
    Modulo bugs.

  • Analog Input and Output in One Single VI

    I need help in setting both analog input and output in one single VI. How do I assign channels to be either input or output? How do I simultaneously uses both in one single VI with a while loop structure?? Which AO am I suppose to use to obtain signal from the function generator I have built to feed into the DAQCard-1200?? Help!!
    Attachments:
    Test1.vi ‏48 KB

    One thing you'll need to be aware of is that you will need to DMA lines: one for AI and one for AO. If you don't, then you can configure the DAQCard to do without DMA using the Config VI. But you certainly can do this.
    As far as your function generator, you will want to do a buffered analog output. You will write your buffer of points to the buffer, and then tell NI-DAQ how fast to update your analog output channel with these values.
    So, you can be reading from AI and checking the AO process in the same while loop. Just make sure you handle the while loop execution (the wait it exits) correctly. This can get tricky when you're doing two types of measurements.
