Unix command to make list of file name

Hi Gurus,
I have seen post how to process multiple file from johngoodwin.blogspot.com.
But what is the equlivalent command in unix to list all file names.
I want one text file will contain all text file name and another text file will contain all csv filenames.
Need some suggestion.Please help.
Thanks in advance.

Hi please follow below steps.
vi yourfilename.sh
then in edit mode put your command
then save it by pressing esc : q (escape colon q)
Now your file will be there. just run that script file in OS Command.But that file should be accessible or else give the full path for that script file.
Thanks

  • To display the list of File Name in a report region from a Directory

    Hello All,
    Can any one guide me in displaying the list of file name from a file system directory in a report region with link?
    On click of the link it should display the open/save dialog box.
    I will appreciate the early solution. (It is bit urgent)
    Thanks,
    Shyam

    A quick, "dirty solution would be to have a cron job (I am assuming you are on a UNIX-based system) that populates a file periodically with the names of files in a directory/directories. Then have an external table that points to that file. You can then create an Apex report that lists the contents of the external table.
    1) crontab job:
    ls -1 /source_dir/* > /destination_dir/file.list
    2) create external table:
    CREATE DIRECTORY filedir AS ' destination_dir ';
    GRANT READ ON DIRECTORY xfer_files TO public;
    CREATE TABLE file_list_ext (file_names VARHCAR2(100))
    ORGANIZATION EXTERNAL
    TYPE oracle_loader
    DEFAULT DIRECTORY files_dir
    ACCESS PARAMETERS
    records delimited by newline
    fields terminated by ','
    missing field values are null
    (file_name)
    LOCATION ('file.list')
    REJECT LIMIT UNLIMITED;
    3) create APEX report on table: file_list_ext
    Hope this helps.

  • How to Sort music on play list by FILE NAME?

    How to Sort music on play list by FILE NAME?

    iTunes doesn't display the filename or filepath as a column so you can't sort on it. I could write a script to copy the filepath into the Sort Name field so that sorting by name would sort by filepath. Would that help? In normal circumstances however filepath order would be the same as Album by Artist, so I'm not sure what you would gain. Perhaps there is another way to approach whatever problem you think sorting by filename would solve.

  • Lists of file names in a book

    Does anyone know how to generate a list of file names in a book?

    To generate a list of filenames you could create a new paragraph format, e. g. #Filename. Then insert a #Filename paragraph that contains only FM's filename variable. Repeat this for every chapter of your book.
    Finally generate a list of paragraphs for the book, which lists all #Filename paragraphs.You may want to remove <$pagenum> from the LOP reference page so that it doesn't appear in the output.
    If you have that generated list, you can either include it as part of the book or save as text to get a list of files externally. If you are just after the filenames, Arnis' suggestion is probably easier.

  • Tcsh shell "alias" command seems to be truncating file names

    Terminal Utility: As a Unix geek, on trying to port a large # of tcsh shell scripts to MacOSX (10.5.6), I have found a strange compatibility issue with the tcsh script "alias" command. After entering tcsh sub-shell from bash (by typing tcsh at the bash prompt, or by setting tcsh as the default shell), and defining the alias "surf_run" by sourcing a script containing the the line:
    alias surf_run 'source /Users/username/SgiNew/molsurf/csh/radix.csh'
    subsequent use of the "surf_run" alias (typing surf_run at the tcsh command prompt) seems to cause the system to truncate the name of the file to about 20 characters. The radix.csh file is actually present at the defined path, but the system seems to be truncating the file name to the last 16 letters or so in this case, and thus returns the following error message:
    : No such file or directory.rf/csh/radix.csh
    as if it is looking for a file rf/csh/radix.csh (which is not there, because the filename has been truncated)
    The number of characters retained actually varies from case to case. Another similarly obtained error message had 30 characters retained in the file name:
    : No such file or directory.rtoz/rtoz/rxtst/unix/login.csh
    Q: Is there any system parameter or environment variable that I can modify that will allow the tcsh shell alias command to recognize properly file paths with large numbers of characters?

    I cannot reproduce this error. A long alias string works fine for me. But the error messages -- as you reproduce them here -- do not look like the string is truncated. It looks like the "No such file or directory" message is being written on top of the string. Like maybe a new line is being swallowed somewhere.
    I suggest taking further inquiries to the Unix forum, under "Mac OS X Technologies".

  • Export List of File Name with Faces Identified

    I'd like to export a list from Aperture, into any file format - Words, Numbers, rich text, MS Word, MS Excel, anything!!
    The list would show the file name and all the faces identified in that file.
    My daughter is in her High School dance team. I've taken more than 1000 photos. Here is is the end of the season and I'd like to distribute the photos among the dancers/parents. They don't have the software or care to take the time to sort through the pics to figure out which photos they are in. I'd at least like to give them a list of photos so that can find the ones
    Faces can be a helpful feature (though I hate all the file versions all over the place in iPhoto and Apeture).
    I've read that Faces is not stored in the metadata of the file. I've tried to export metadata, but not much comes out other than the standard file size, camera settings, etc.
    Easier to describe the situation, I guess, but would be helpful for many photos with people (weddings, parties, reunions, genealogy photos ...)
    which is Faces is supposed to be about, RIGHT???
    I guess a work around could be exporting the files from the identified faces. That seems like it would just junk up more storage/memory. I guess you could use a file list  naming app and then delete the exported files - that just seems stupid.
    I expect a little more from a souped up version of iPhoto for $79. Especially if I have Adobe Creative Suite with Bridge. If Apple wants to give a little shove to Apple, and bring novice users from looking for a non Apple solution, I think this would be an EASY no brainer.
    Thanks anyone who has a solution of a decent work around.
    Beth in Wisconsin
    Aperture 3.06

    Dear Kirby, Thank you so much for your reply.
    I'm familiar with Metadata. I've worked with Canto Cumulus and Filemaker.
    I guess a more important question - where is the Faces data stored?
    I'm looking to export a text version by file name, such as in a spreadsheet. Something like this
    File Name     PhotoFile_01.jpg     PhotoFile_01.jpg     PhotoFile_03.jpg
    Faces ID'd    Nina Totenburg        Carl Kasel               Tom Ashbrook
    Faces ID'd    Carl Kasel                Peter Sagel
    Faces ID'd    Terri Gross               Terri Gross              Nina Totenburg
    Faces ID'd     Renee Montaigne    Tom Ashbrook
    OR
    File Name                    Face 1               Face 2          Face 3               Face 4
    PhotoFile_01.jpg         Bob Braun         Tina Fey        Andy Warhol
    PhotoFile_02.jpg         Leah Jones       Beyonce        Tina Turner      Dave Matthews
    PhotoFile_03.jpg         Lisa Liu            Geena Davis
    Anything that would identify the faces in a photo to a text file ....
    Yes I understand that most of the IOS software is supposed to make it easier for the new and less techie user. But if you are going to create all these versions and mini files for the photos, why not make them accessible to a power user. I'm not a coder, but I've been using macs for 25 of my 40 years.
    What gets me is that you go to the trouble of identifying all the Faces. What is Faces really supposed to help you with?
    I mean Facebook is better at face recognition than this. Don't go on a tangent - about this - just sayin'.
    Thanks for your time!

  • How do i get a list of file names in to a new folder?

    Hi,
    Does anyone know if there is a way of having a list of  image file names, searching for the images then putting them into a new folder?  I'm guessing it can probably be done through mac scripting but I know nothing about scripting and genreally not great with technogy so ideally need step by step instructions!!
    If anyone can help I would really appreciate it!!
    Ruth

    Without details about your workflow and folder set up, I can only give you a generic script, but this should at least get us started.  test it and see what needs to be tweaked.
    -- set paths to source and destination folders
    set imageSourcePath to POSIX path of (choose folder with prompt "Choose a source folder.")
    set destinationFolder to POSIX file POSIX path of (choose folder with prompt "Choose a destination folder.")
    -- get file names from text file: assumes one name per line.
    set fileNameTextFile to (choose file with prompt "Choose a file list text file." of type "public.plain-text")
    set fileNames to paragraphs of (read fileNameTextFile)
    repeat with thisFileName in fileNames
      -- replace each file name with an alias to that image file
              set contents of thisFileName to POSIX file (imageSourcePath & thisFileName)
    end repeat
    tell application "Finder"
      -- using 'duplicate' because I assume you want to make copies rather than move files
      duplicate fileNames to destinationFolder
    end tell

  • Make list of files

    I want to create a finder plugin that will allow me to select a folder and make a text file of the contents -filenames only- without the path information. Preferably with save as and save where. I can do this successfully with the full path but not without. Any ideas?

    I thought you might ask that
    You need a two-step workflow. The first step is Get Selected Finder Items. The second step is Run AppleScript. Here's the script:
    on run {input, parameters}
    (* Your script goes here *)
    if (count input) > 1 or (count input) < 1 then
    display dialog "One item only!"
    else
    tell application "Finder"
    if kind of item 1 of input is "folder" then
    my list_folder(item 1 of input)
    else
    display dialog "I can only list folders"
    end if
    end tell
    end if
    return input
    end run
    on listfolder(targetfolder)
    set {olddelims, AppleScript's text item delimiters} to {AppleScript's text item delimiters, return}
    set target_file to (choose file name with prompt "Choose a name and location for the list:")
    tell application "Finder"
    set name_list to name of every file of target_folder
    set folder_name to name of target_folder
    end tell
    set name_list to name_list as string
    set targetfilecontents to (open for access target_file with write permission)
    try
    write "Contents of folder " & folder_name & ":" & return & name_list to targetfilecontents
    on error
    close access targetfilecontents
    end try
    try
    close access targetfilecontents
    end try
    set AppleScript's text item delimiters to olddelims
    end list_folder
    Save the workflow as a Finder plug-in, ctrl-click on a folder and see how it goes.
    Cheers,

  • Can songs be listed by file name?

    I burned the majority of my MP3's 7-10 years ago, and there is no info encoded in most of the files. I have alot of my music just showing up as track # with no other info. I am hoping there is a way to list songs in library by file name. I am concidering buying an Ipod Touch, but if it is not possable to list songs by file name that could be a deal breaker. I have over 3000 songs and with half of em listed as track numbers it would be a nightmare trying to find the song i want.
    Thank you in advance for any help you all can provide.

    iTunes does not have the ability to display filenames as a list. (It does display the filename for a single file, on the summary tab of Get Info)
    In your case, you may wish to use a 3rd party tag editing program such as MP3-Tag to clean up your tags before adding them to iTunes.

  • How to create Dynamic Selection List containg file names of a directory?

    Hi,
    I need a Selection List with a Dynamic List of Values containing all file names of a particular directory (can change through the time).
    Basically, I need an Iterator over all file names in a directory, which could be used for Selection List in a JSF form.
    This iterator has nothing to do with a database, but should get the names directly from the file system (java.io.File).
    Can anybody tell me how to create such an iterator/selection list?
    I am working with JDeveloper 10.1.3.2, JSF and Business Services.
    Thank you,
    Igor

    Create a class like this:
    package list;
    import java.io.File;
    public class fileList {
        public fileList() {
        public String[] listFiles(){
        File dir = new File("c:/temp");
        String[] files = dir.list();
        for (int i = 0; i < files.length; i++)  {
                System.out.println(files);
    return files;
    Right click to create a data control from it.
    Then you can drag the return value of the listFiles method to a page and drop as a table for example.
    Also note that the Content Repository data control in 10.1.3.2 has the file system as a possible data source.
