Lists of file names in a book

Does anyone know how to generate a list of file names in a book?

To generate a list of filenames you could create a new paragraph format, e. g. #Filename. Then insert a #Filename paragraph that contains only FM's filename variable. Repeat this for every chapter of your book.
Finally generate a list of paragraphs for the book, which lists all #Filename paragraphs.You may want to remove <$pagenum> from the LOP reference page so that it doesn't appear in the output.
If you have that generated list, you can either include it as part of the book or save as text to get a list of files externally. If you are just after the filenames, Arnis' suggestion is probably easier.

In addition, this:
String filename = files;Should be this:
String filename = files;
That's just because he didn't use the "code" tags, so [ i ] made everything following it become italicized.

• To display the list of File Name in a report region from a Directory

Hello All,
Can any one guide me in displaying the list of file name from a file system directory in a report region with link?
On click of the link it should display the open/save dialog box.
I will appreciate the early solution. (It is bit urgent)
Thanks,
Shyam

A quick, "dirty solution would be to have a cron job (I am assuming you are on a UNIX-based system) that populates a file periodically with the names of files in a directory/directories. Then have an external table that points to that file. You can then create an Apex report that lists the contents of the external table.
1) crontab job:
ls -1 /source_dir/* > /destination_dir/file.list
2) create external table:
CREATE DIRECTORY filedir AS ' destination_dir ';
GRANT READ ON DIRECTORY xfer_files TO public;
CREATE TABLE file_list_ext (file_names VARHCAR2(100))
ORGANIZATION EXTERNAL
TYPE oracle_loader
DEFAULT DIRECTORY files_dir
ACCESS PARAMETERS
records delimited by newline
fields terminated by ','
missing field values are null
(file_name)
LOCATION ('file.list')
REJECT LIMIT UNLIMITED;
3) create APEX report on table: file_list_ext
Hope this helps.

• How to Sort music on play list by FILE NAME?

How to Sort music on play list by FILE NAME?

iTunes doesn't display the filename or filepath as a column so you can't sort on it. I could write a script to copy the filepath into the Sort Name field so that sorting by name would sort by filepath. Would that help? In normal circumstances however filepath order would be the same as Album by Artist, so I'm not sure what you would gain. Perhaps there is another way to approach whatever problem you think sorting by filename would solve.

• Can songs be listed by file name?

I burned the majority of my MP3's 7-10 years ago, and there is no info encoded in most of the files. I have alot of my music just showing up as track # with no other info. I am hoping there is a way to list songs in library by file name. I am concidering buying an Ipod Touch, but if it is not possable to list songs by file name that could be a deal breaker. I have over 3000 songs and with half of em listed as track numbers it would be a nightmare trying to find the song i want.
Thank you in advance for any help you all can provide.

iTunes does not have the ability to display filenames as a list. (It does display the filename for a single file, on the summary tab of Get Info)
In your case, you may wish to use a 3rd party tag editing program such as MP3-Tag to clean up your tags before adding them to iTunes.

• Export List of File Name with Faces Identified

I'd like to export a list from Aperture, into any file format - Words, Numbers, rich text, MS Word, MS Excel, anything!!
The list would show the file name and all the faces identified in that file.
My daughter is in her High School dance team. I've taken more than 1000 photos. Here is is the end of the season and I'd like to distribute the photos among the dancers/parents. They don't have the software or care to take the time to sort through the pics to figure out which photos they are in. I'd at least like to give them a list of photos so that can find the ones
Faces can be a helpful feature (though I hate all the file versions all over the place in iPhoto and Apeture).
I've read that Faces is not stored in the metadata of the file. I've tried to export metadata, but not much comes out other than the standard file size, camera settings, etc.
Easier to describe the situation, I guess, but would be helpful for many photos with people (weddings, parties, reunions, genealogy photos ...)
which is Faces is supposed to be about, RIGHT???
I guess a work around could be exporting the files from the identified faces. That seems like it would just junk up more storage/memory. I guess you could use a file list naming app and then delete the exported files - that just seems stupid.
I expect a little more from a souped up version of iPhoto for $79. Especially if I have Adobe Creative Suite with Bridge. If Apple wants to give a little shove to Apple, and bring novice users from looking for a non Apple solution, I think this would be an EASY no brainer.
Thanks anyone who has a solution of a decent work around.

Dear Kirby, Thank you so much for your reply.
I'm familiar with Metadata. I've worked with Canto Cumulus and Filemaker.
I guess a more important question - where is the Faces data stored?
I'm looking to export a text version by file name, such as in a spreadsheet. Something like this
File Name     PhotoFile_01.jpg     PhotoFile_01.jpg     PhotoFile_03.jpg
Faces ID'd Nina Totenburg Carl Kasel Tom Ashbrook
Faces ID'd Carl Kasel Peter Sagel
Faces ID'd Terri Gross Terri Gross Nina Totenburg
Faces ID'd Renee Montaigne Tom Ashbrook
OR
File Name Face 1 Face 2 Face 3 Face 4
PhotoFile_01.jpg Bob Braun Tina Fey Andy Warhol
PhotoFile_02.jpg Leah Jones Beyonce Tina Turner Dave Matthews
PhotoFile_03.jpg         Lisa Liu            Geena Davis
Anything that would identify the faces in a photo to a text file ....
Yes I understand that most of the IOS software is supposed to make it easier for the new and less techie user. But if you are going to create all these versions and mini files for the photos, why not make them accessible to a power user. I'm not a coder, but I've been using macs for 25 of my 40 years.
What gets me is that you go to the trouble of identifying all the Faces. What is Faces really supposed to help you with?
I mean Facebook is better at face recognition than this. Don't go on a tangent - about this - just sayin'.
Thanks for your time!

• How to create Dynamic Selection List containg file names of a directory?

Hi,
I need a Selection List with a Dynamic List of Values containing all file names of a particular directory (can change through the time).
Basically, I need an Iterator over all file names in a directory, which could be used for Selection List in a JSF form.
This iterator has nothing to do with a database, but should get the names directly from the file system (java.io.File).
Can anybody tell me how to create such an iterator/selection list?
I am working with JDeveloper 10.1.3.2, JSF and Business Services.
Thank you,
Igor

Create a class like this:
package list;
import java.io.File;
public class fileList {
public fileList() {
public String[] listFiles(){
File dir = new File("c:/temp");
String[] files = dir.list();
for (int i = 0; i < files.length; i++)  {
System.out.println(files);
return files;
Right click to create a data control from it.
Then you can drag the return value of the listFiles method to a page and drop as a table for example.
Also note that the Content Repository data control in 10.1.3.2 has the file system as a possible data source.

• List all file names in a directory

Hello everybody,
I need to write a script in PL/SQL (oracle 10g) that lists all filenames in a specific directory on a client machine and import the files into the database (xml files). After the file is imported they have to be removed.
I was searching for a solution for this because I have never come accross a challenge like this.
What I found was that I could use the procedure dbms_backup_restore.searchfiles of the SYS schema.
Now I need to know how this procedure works. There is very little documentation available.
Can I give the procedure a folder name on my client computer that has the xml files and let the procedure list these files?
Can someone please help me with this. I haven't got a clue.
Thanks in advance.
regards,
Mariane

Hello Justin,
Thank you for your reply.
You have just confirmed what I already was thinking: that the server cannot read files from the client.
I haven't got a client application running to do this. My customer wants me to write a script in PL/SQL that enables users to run an import of xml files in the database by giving in a directory name on the client.
I told my customer that they have to put the xml files on a server directory. Should that always be the server where the database resides on?
Is there another way to solve this request?
Thanks in advance.
regards,
Mariane

• How do i get a list of file names in to a new folder?

Hi,
Does anyone know if there is a way of having a list of image file names, searching for the images then putting them into a new folder? I'm guessing it can probably be done through mac scripting but I know nothing about scripting and genreally not great with technogy so ideally need step by step instructions!!
If anyone can help I would really appreciate it!!
Ruth

Without details about your workflow and folder set up, I can only give you a generic script, but this should at least get us started. test it and see what needs to be tweaked.
-- set paths to source and destination folders
set imageSourcePath to POSIX path of (choose folder with prompt "Choose a source folder.")
set destinationFolder to POSIX file POSIX path of (choose folder with prompt "Choose a destination folder.")
-- get file names from text file: assumes one name per line.
set fileNameTextFile to (choose file with prompt "Choose a file list text file." of type "public.plain-text")
set fileNames to paragraphs of (read fileNameTextFile)
repeat with thisFileName in fileNames
-- replace each file name with an alias to that image file
set contents of thisFileName to POSIX file (imageSourcePath & thisFileName)
end repeat
tell application "Finder"
-- using 'duplicate' because I assume you want to make copies rather than move files
duplicate fileNames to destinationFolder
end tell

Description:
We have created a custom workflow in Microsoft Visual Studio 2013 and SharePoint 2013. This Workflow is associated with a Document library.

Upload a file that contains “ ' “

Navigate to Workflow Tasks list
Open View Item form (DispForm.aspx ) of Task Created by workflow then click on link in Related Item fields

Is this known bug in SharePoint 2013 OR any hotfix available to fix it.

Hi,
As I tested per your description, I can reproduce the issue as well.
From what I have found out, it seems SharePoint resolve single quote into different code in different place. During the test, if I set Task Name to Document Name, single quote will be resolved to ' , if I set some field to Document encoded URL, single
quote will be resolved to %27 . For now, I haven't found out any article talking about this issue.
As workaround, we may find out a way to change the Related Item field. However, it is OOB field in workflow task (SharePoint 2013) content type, and this content type cannot be modified in form.
I'd suggest you add new column to get document url and place in the form in Task content type settings.

• How to list long file names and paths longer than 260 characters in vbscript?

Hi there,
I have looked in different posts and forums, but couldn't find an answer to my question.
So, here it is... imagine the small piece of code attached below. I need to be able to iterate and rename recursively (I didn't include the recursive part of the code in order to keep things simple) through files and folders in an user selected path. I thought that by using vbscript FileSystemObject I would be able to do so.
Unfortunately, it seems like the Files method does not detect files whose path is larger than the OS 260 (or 256?) character limit. How could I do it so? Please, don't tell me to use something different than vbscripts :-)
Thanks in advance!
Set FSO = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
Set objFolder = FSO.GetFolder(Path)
Set colFiles = objFolder.Files
For Each objFile In colFiles
Wscript.Echo "File in root folder:" & objfile.Name
Next

Yes, that describes the problem, but not the solution - short of changing the names of the folders. There is another solution. That is, to map a logical drive to the folder so that the path to subfolders and files is shortened. Here is a procedure that offers a scripted approach that I use to map folders with long names to a drive letter and then opens a console window at that location ...
Dim sDrive, sSharePath, sShareName, aTemp, cLtr, errnum
Const sCmd = "%comspec% /k color f0 & title "
Const bForce = True
if wsh.arguments.count > 0 then
sSharePath = wsh.arguments(0)
aTemp = Split(sSharePath, "\")
sShareName = aTemp(UBound(aTemp))
cLtr = "K"
with CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
Do While .DriveExists(cLtr) and UCase(cLtr) <= "Z"
cLtr = Chr(ASC(cLtr) + 1)
Loop
end with
sDrive = cLtr & ":"
Else
sDrive = "K:"
sSharePath = "C:\Documents and Settings\tlavedas\My Documents\Script\Testing"
sShareName = "Testing"
end if
with CreateObject("Wscript.Network")
errnum = MakeShare(sSharePath, sShareName)
if errnum = 0 or errnum = 22 then
.MapNetworkDrive sDrive, "\\" & .ComputerName & "\" & sShareName
CreateObject("Wscript.Shell").Run sCmd & sDrive & sShareName & "& " & sDrive, 1, True
.RemoveNetworkDrive sDrive, bForce
if not errnum = 22 then RemoveShare(sShareName)
else
wsh.echo "Failed"
end if
end with
function MakeShare(sSharePath, sShareName)
Const FILE_SHARE = 0
Const MAX_CONNECT = 1
with GetObject("winmgmts:{impersonationLevel=impersonate}!\\.\root\cimv2")
with .Get("Win32_Share")
MakeShare = .Create(sSharePath, sShareName, FILE_SHARE, MAX_CONNECT, sShareName)
end with
end with
end function
sub RemoveShare(sShareName)
Dim cShares, oShare
with GetObject("winmgmts:{impersonationLevel=impersonate}!\\.\root\cimv2")
Set cShares = .ExecQuery _
("Select * from Win32_Share Where Name = '" & sShareName & "'")
For Each oShare in cShares
oShare.Delete
Next
end with
end sub
The SHARE that must be created for this to work is marked as having only one connect (the calling procedure). The mapping and share is automatically removed when the console window is closed. In the case cited in this posting, this approach could be applied using the subroutines provided so that the user's script creates the share/mapping, performs its file operations and then removes the mapping/share. Ultimately, it might be more useful to change the folder structure, as suggested in the KB article, since working with the created folders and files will still be problematic - unless the drive mapping is in place.Tom Lavedas

Thanks so much!! Worked like a charm.

Hi there all,
this might be a long shot..
but here is what I am doing.
I have a folder with 1,980 files in it, and an excel file with 2,120 files listed.
So I just need to export a list of all the files and compare to see which ones Im missing, right?
Ive been using dir /b filename > filename.txt
And that works great for files on my local computer. But this is on a mapped drive. B: to be specific. I havent been able to figure this out for some reason. It seems fairly simple to me. But maybe I am losing my mind..
Any help would be much appreciated!

• Workflow with images,file names and full captions.

I am working on my mother's memoirs, which will include a block of photo pages. Those pages will be laid out by a friend. I would like to use a contct sheet of some kind as a reference to what is to be included with what caption but am discovering just how difficult PE8 Organizer is to work with.
First I tried the obvious print contact sheet and discoverd that captions are truncated if they run wider than the image itself.
Secondly I tried a photo book and found that large images do not automatically resize to fit the picture placeholders. Seemed to pick up full caption but I have too many pictures to manually fit.
Third I tried a web page output but then captions can't be copy and pasted for inclusion into group caption panels!
Then it occurred to me that even just a list of file names and captions would be sufficient ... but even that is too much for an Adobe catalog to give up!
All I want is a reference to images and captions, ideally grouped 4 at a time per page as they will be shown in those picture pages.
Any suggestions would be welcomed.

I can see two ways to do what you want.
The first one is to divide you workflow in two steps. Install the free software FastStone image resizer, which can do a batch to resize and put your caption where you want. Batch process the files in a new folder while renaming them with something like 'old name'+ 'resized'. This is to avoid duplicate names. Import them into the organizer. Create an album with all those files, and put them in the correct printing order. Select all and export 'as new files' renaming them with 'common base name', in original format. That should keep the custom order of your project.
There are also batch renaming and resizing with the affordable Elements+ add-on, but I suppose the first solution will be easier.
