Unloading library on HP UX11 and AIX crashes in 8.1.7 and 9i

We dynamically load/unload Oracle client libraries(libclntsh). Unloading the library hangs/crashes with 8.1.7 or 9i client. Works fine with 8.1.5.
This happens only on HP11 or AIX. Windows and solaris work fine.
Has anyone else seen this problem?
Thanks

Mark, I'm faced with the same proble. Did you get beyond the problem?

  • Itunes (on Windows 7) just deleted my entire library of music, apps and playlists

I'm Running the latest version of Itunes on Windows 7. Itunes deleted every single song, playlist and app entirely for the 2nd time this month. Is there any way to easily restore the library? Without re-importing each and every song, downloading every single app, re-creating every playlist manually, re-subscribing to every podcast, etc....?

    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping.  Note that in iTunes 11 an "empty" library may show your past purchases with links to stream or download them.
In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
Alternatively, depending on exactly when and why the library went missing, there may be a more recent .tmp file in the main iTunes folder that can be renamed as iTunes Library.itl to restore the library to a recent state.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.
I've noticed more of these missing library posts of late and a common factor to most since I started asking is AVG Anti-Virus. It seems in some cases it might be at least part of the reason why the library file disappears. Try excluding the iTunes folder from any AV scanning process.

  • How to share one iTunes library with multiple computers AND Apple TV? Help?

It seems like my dilemma may not be easily solved. Hopefully it isn't as complicated as I think it will be. Here's the situation:
My wife hates that, in order to see or do anything with the images she takes, I need to have iPhoto open on my computer (Mac Pro), and she then has to connect to it over sharing.
By the same token, I don't like that she buys iTunes content on her MacBook, which is sometimes a duplicate of content I already have. Now that the App Store is out, that is going to start getting really expensive.
So instead, I want us to be able to:
    1) Have ONE iTunes library on the network, and ONE iPhoto library. Both of these would be accessible to any computer on the network. When you launch iTunes, you would get all the media that is in that library.
    2) Both be able to access iTunes at the same time to listen to / watch content.
    3) Both be able to purchase iTunes content, and when it it purchased, it updates that single library. If I buy a song, the next time my wife fires up iTunes, that song is there for her to listen to.
    4) Have our two Apple TV units be able to play content from this library.
So, I know that we need something on the network. I have a Drobo with DroboShare, so that is one option. I also have a spare Mac Pro laying around, along with a copy of OS X Leopard Server.
I just don't know what route we should take with this. All I want is for us to share a library, to be able to both use that library, for us to be able to sync content from that library to our portable devices, and for our Apple TVs to also see that library.
    Possible?!

I'm sort of in the same boat. We've got an iMac with separate User Accounts set up and are currently sharing the same iTunes and iPhoto libraries along with streaming them to our Apple TV.
Right now I'm the only one with an iPod, however she'll be getting one in a couple of weeks.
We also just picked up a MacBook yesterday and I'd like to be able to sync certain libraries like iTunes and iPhoto so that no content gets duplicated on either the iMac or MacBook and so that we both have access to the current libraries for each program on our iPods and AppleTV.
I have an external hard drive that I back up the iMac on and I assume I could manually keep things current with that but there's got to be an easier way...that's why these are Macs right?

  • ITunes for Windows freezes when importing a library. I have a large but not huge library of mostly iTunes purchased music on two authorized computers and would like to sync the files, export the library as a playlist, and import it on the other computer.

I am running iTunes for Windows 10.2.2 on Windows 7 Home. I have my iTunes library on both this computer and another authorized machine running Windows 7 Professional. I have a large but not enormous library, as I'm one of those people who doesn't pirate, use torrents, borrow from a dozen friends, or whatever other shades of gray you might imagine. It's mostly iTunes purchases with my old CD collection imported. I have started using the following technique to sync my libraries between my two authorized computers, an ability which you can probably all agree should one day be added to iTunes -- that would be different from Home Sharing, because the music would be stored locally and thus available on the road. With the added benefit of the entire library being backed up on the other machine in real-time. Anyway, when I switch from my desktop to laptop and vice versa, I use the following technique:
Connect both machines to the home network. One machine is the "Active" machine, which has most recently been used for iTunes media, purchases, ratings, etc.
On the "Active" machine, File-->Library-->Export. Save the file as "Library.xml" on the shared drive of the other machine.
Right-click "Library.xml" where it's been saved, and open another file that has two lines in it: The root path of the iTunes library on one machine and the root path of the iTunes library on the other machine.
Do a find/replace all in Notepad to make the library XML file point to where the files will be saved on the "Inactive" machine.
Run Microsoft SyncToy to synchronize the files between both music libraries; the most recent files win. This avoids copying the entire multi-gigabyte library over the network.
Open iTunes on the "Inactive" machine.
Go to Music, Select All, Delete. Keep files.
Do the same for Movies, Music Videos.
Go down to Playlists, select the top one, hold down the delete button until they're all gone.
File-->Library-->Import Playlist. Choose the "Library.xml" file you saved.
First a status bar comes up that says, "Importing library." It has the continually-scrolling progress bar, not the one that starts on the left and steadily creeps right. Then after about 30 seconds, that clears out. Wait. Typically a few minutes. Eventually a status bar will pop up saying something like, "Evaluating gapless playback information," or something like that.
The "Inactive" computer is now the "Active" computer. I can now play my library, it has all my playlists and metadata from the other machine.
Delete all the duplicate playlists named "Music," "Genius," "Purchased," and "iTunes DJ."
Well, I just upgraded to iTunes 10.2.2 a few days ago and tried to do this again like I've done it dozens of times before. Now, iTunes just goes unresponsive after the library import. It got through the "Importing library" bar to the long wait and stopped. I can still multiprocess and use other programs, but iTunes is hovering back there not responding to clicks. Task Manager doesn't seem to think iTunes is using my CPU, and I don't see my hard drive rattling. Any thoughts on why iTunes might hang up when importing a large library?
... Also, please help lobby Apple to come up with a network sync tool built into iTunes for a user with multiple authorized computers. Something different than Home Sharing so I can pull my laptop off the network and still have the synced library with me. And all my metadata changes will sync. The technique I use seems a little kludgey, don't you think?

iTunes isn't an editor. You need an app that's intended for editing audio files, like Adobe Audition (http://www.adobe.com/products/audition.html) or Audacity (free in the App Store).

    Hello there, gleab.
The following Knowledge Base article reviews the ways to import content into iTunes:
Adding music and other content to iTunes
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1473
Also keep in mind which formats can be added:
You can add audio files that are in AAC, MP3, WAV, AIFF, Apple Lossless, or Audible.com (.aa) format. If you have unprotected WMA content, iTunes for Windows can convert these files to one of these formats.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.

  • Terrance Devlin answered a question about iPhoto (4-2012) re:copying iPhoto Library to an ExHD, and losing all the albums. I can't locate the "Choose Library" when I open iPhoto with the opt button. Can anyone help?

I tried to move my images (over 25,000) to an External Hard drive to open up some memory, hoping to make my computer run faster. It took three hours to move the images and I see them all in the mac's menus. However when I try to open them with iPhoto now, none appeared. and when I tried to import them back to the main HD they come in to iPhoto just fine, but not with the albums nor any of the massive organization i'd created in the original. this represents years of images, and I can't imagine that I'd have to recopy them into folders/albums again.
Terrance Devlin answered a similar question back in April of last year. He said to make sure the ExHD is formatted to MAC OS Extended (Journaled) and to move the library to the ExHD and then open iPhoto with the option button and select "Choose Library" from the resulting menu.
Command "I" tells me that the new drive is formatted correctly. I can't locate the "Choose Library" when I open iPhoto with the opt button.
First, I wondered if the application needs to be on the same drive as the Library. I sure would like to know if I can find out how to restore all the folders I had them in. Terrance's advice helped the user that had asked the question.
Here's the url for that archived discussion: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3849933?start=0&tstart=0
Can anyone help? I'm using iPhoto 5. My MAC is an OS X version 10.4.11.
    thanks, brokenlom

    Here are Apple's instructions:
If you are using iPhoto ’06 or earlier, you will need to follow these steps to tell iPhoto where the Library is now located:
Hold down the Option key on the keyboard and open iPhoto. Keep the Option key held down until you are prompted to create or choose an iPhoto Library.
    Click Choose Library.
Locate and select the iPhoto Library in its new location.
    (from http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1229 )
Below (in the link below) is what you should see when holding down the option key and opening iPhoto. Keep holding down the option key until this dialogue comes up. You want to select the Choose Library button.

  • How to edit a library on second computer and then merge it back?

    Hi there,
My main 500GB library is on an older Mac Mini and I've got a snappy new Macbook Pro. I want to keep the library on the Mini but it's getting too big for the HD there.
I've done some tests with Duplicate Annihilator (DA) and it looks like I can really shrink the library by removing dupes.
I've tried running DA on the mini but it would take several days to complete and I can't seem to keep my family from opening Aperture during that time. According to DA docs it's very dangerous to have both DA and Aperture running against a library at the same time.
So, I think I want to:
    - Copy or Export my full library to an attached USB drive
    - Connect that drive to the snappier MacBook Pro
    - Run DA against the library on the Macbook Pro and then (carefully/selectively) delete the duplicates it finds
    - Return the USB drive to the Mac Mini
    - Import and/or Merge the smaller libary with the original library, hopefully ending up with the dupes removed from the original Mac Mini library
To do that I first tried selecting the 'Photos' view in the Library, Select All, and then 'Export Smart Album as New Library' but it seems to have stopped before completing. There's a file in the target folder called "Aperture Photos Export_exporting" that's only 40GB.
    So, my questions:
    - Does the above process make sense?
    - If I simply copy the entire Aperture Library to the USB drive (vs Export) will I be able to Merge when I bring it back, or will Merge only work with a library that was Exported?
    Thanks for any tips.
    Cheers,
    Andrew

Léonie, perhaps there is an issue with your system?
Hopefully not, I am seeing the same on three different Macs with Aperture 3.5.1.  Andy.
My network is too slow right now to download your movie, sorry - I could not yet view your video.
But I experimented a bit further and found that occasionally the deleted files will be removed from the original library, but not reliably. It seems to depend on the edits done and the way the deleted images are trashed.
When I do not empty the trash in the exported library, sometimes Aperture will remove the deleted photos when merging, but I could never get it to remove the deleted photos, if I emptied the trash in the imported/exported library.
    Here is an example:
    1. A test project to be exported as library
    2. The exported library after deleting images and emptying the trash
    3. Reimporting and merging
    4. Selecting to solve conflicts by keeping the imported library
    5. After merging, still all seven image versions.
The only way that merging sometimes did remove the deleted image versions was, when I did not empty Aperture's trash in the imported library, and when I edited a few images before reimporting.
KIrby, I see your traces in this thread. Do you have time to try to checkout what happens in your Aperture version? That would be great.
    Léonie

  • I have my I-tune library on one computer and want to move it to another, these computers are not Mac

I have my iTune library in one computer and want to move it to anoher computer. I can use home-share, but that works only when the original computer is online. So that is really not a solution. My question is how do I move from my old to my new computer? Both these computer have Windows and operating system.

    Hello Mettefromswe,
It sounds like you are trying to move your iTunes Library from one computer to another.  I recommend following the steps in the article below to transfer your library from your previous computer to your new computer:

Perhaps this web page will help: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1229
But I must point out that leaving the iPhoto Library on the external is worth considering. Your internal drive would be better off without having to carry the photos.
When you booted with the external connected and you were asked for the library, did you try navigating to the Library in on the external drive?

  • Can I use *one* iTunes library for both MacOS and Bootcamp/Vista?

Does anybody know if there is a way to use and administer the same library both from MacOS and Bootcamp/WinOS?
I have Paragon's "NTFS for MacOSX", so I could actually move the library to the NTFS partition and use it from both OSes.
The thing is, the changes made on one version won't appear on the other system.
Is there a way to make both iTunes clients read/write to the same files? Is the file format of the Mac-iTunes identical with the one used by the Win version?
And isn't that an interesting question...?
    Thanks for replying and cheers,
    uu

The music files are currently on the Mac partition of my MacBook. I plan to move them to the Bootcamp partition, so when using "NTFS for MacOS" I can both read and write there from either partition.
To facilitate administration (e.g. when I add music files using the Mac iTunes, the Windows iTunes doesn't realize the change) I wonder if I can somehow teach both iTuneses (the one on the Mac side and the other one on the Windoews side) to write to/read the same (XML??) admin files.
...which then will have to reside on the NTFS partition as well to be readable/writable from either partition.
Is there a way to change the default path for the library files?

    You can't do that.
And before you decide to store any music that you own on a computer at work, talk to your IT department. Many organizations do not permit it for legal reasons. Standard policies are that anything stored on company owned computers is the property of the company. It could not be legally stored on their machines unless you transfer the licenses and all copies, physical and digital, to the company, meaning you no longer own the music. If they were to be audited and could not prove that they own the music, they would be subject to copyright violation penalties. Just use your iPod when you're at the office if you want to listen to music.

  • How do I delete my iPhoto library on my iPhone and just have photostream?

I have an iMac (main computer), MacBook Air and an iPhone. When I set up iCloud, somewhere along the way it synced my entire Macbook Air library onto my iPhone and I can't get rid of it. I like having photostream on all my devices as that's just 1000 photos, but my iPhoto library is huge and takes up all my storage on the iPhone.
How can I get my iphone to just have photostream and not my entire iPhoto library?
    Thanks

This doesn't work.  I unclick everything and it asks if I want to remove them from my iphone, I click yes obviously and then sync.  Within a second it says it can't complete this because there isn't enough space on my phone.  BS.  After I unclick the library the memory bar shows I would have 35GB of space if it would only sync. what is the problem????????

  • I have 1 itunes library with an iphone and ipod linked to it.  My daughter bought a ipod touch.  Can we download music from my library into her library.  We want to keep them separate due to I do not want all her games in my phone

I have 1 itunes library with a phone and ipod linked to it.  My daughter just got a touch.  She would like to have some of my music downloaded into her touch.  How can I do that without having her linked to my library?

Sync all the devices to the same computer.
If you do not want her apps, then simply do not select them to sync to your device.
Each device will only sync what you select to sync.
lllass gave you a great link for several options.

    Hello,
Did you delete the library ?
If no, press the Option/alt key when you open iTunes and you should see a message and be able to choose a library.
