  • Copy command hangs

    Hello All,
I'm having problems copying data between
oracle 8.1.6.1 dbs, both running on Red
    Hat 6.2.
    I'm using syntax like
    copy from username/password@server -
    insert applications -
    using select * from applications
This works fine when copying between
oracle 8.1.6.2 dbs running on solaris,
but on linux the command hangs and
    starts sucking up CPU.
    Thanks in advance,
    Asif.

thx Kaj for your quick and helpful reply...
now i just use xcopy with /Q to not display so much information!!
but what's the good way to read both stdout and stderr at the same time and store them as useful informations!?
    thx again : )

  • Word for mac 2011 keyboard commands hang when network disk mounted

After much trial and error, I have found that, for my system, at least, MS Word for Mac 2011 hangs on keyboard commands when a network disk is mounted on my desktop.
Just wanted to alert all who get the beach ball when use keyboard commands in MS Word.
Symptom was that Cmd-C would take 8-13 seconds or so to copy 1 word, versus immediate when using menu commands. Same with Cmd-V paste. Also, opening a document took much longer.
Once I ejected network disk, problem disappeared.
Hopefully this will save someone else the time I spent tracking down the issue. I'd still love to know the root problem, though, as I prefer to have a remoe disk mounted on desktop while I work, and now I can't.

Follow these instructions to uninstall MacKeeper. They have been tested with the most recent version of MacKeeper (v 2.8). Earlier versions than the one released in 2012 require more extensive work to uninstall all its components.
The effects of having actually used MacKeeper to do anything are a completely different matter. The fastest way to take an exquisitely designed and painstakingly engineered Mac and make it run like a steaming pile of dung is to install and use such ill-conceived "cleaning" or "security" products. This is just one example of a broad category of time- and money-wasters capable of causing damage that can only be rectified by reinstalling OS X, restoring from a backup, or completely erasing your system and rebuilding it from the ground up. Never install such junk on a Mac.
If you used MacKeeper to encrypt any files or folders, use MacKeeper to un-encrypt them first.
Quit the MacKeeper app if it is running.
Open your Applications folder: Using the Finder's Go menu, select Applications.
Drag the MacKeeper icon from your Applications folder (not the Dock) to the Trash.
You will be asked to authenticate (twice):
You do not need to provide a reason for uninstalling it:
Just click the Uninstall MacKeeper button. You will be asked to authenticate again.
After it uninstalls you may empty the Trash and restart your Mac. All that will remain is an inert log file that does nothing but occupy space on your hard disk.

  • Software Updates using Unix command hangs

Every time I try to do a software update to my OS 10.6.4, 10.6.8 iMacs, the process stays an/or hangs and I have to cancel it. This is the last message in the log:
Writing files…    Running package scripts…    Removing old files…    Optimizing system for installed software…    Moving items into place…
I have left it there for 24 hours and it stills never finishes. When I check an individual machine, the updates are still outstanding, except the combo 10.6.8 on the machines that are running 10.6.4
Any help on this? I am running a Snow Leopard server with the software update service and doing local updates on the machines. I have sent already a unix command to the machines to do a local update with my server ip.
    Thanks,
    Elizabeth Rodriguez

If your using ARD , you should be able to send, and copy & run the installer on your client computers without needing to directly interact with the computers.
    ie:
download the 10.6.8 combo updaters v1.1.dmg onto your ARD computer
double click on the dmg so your computer mounts it.
    open ard
select  one or more client that need to update
click on install icon from the ard toolbar (it should be right next to unix) (altertively
a dialog box will pop up asking what you want to install
    click the +
select the 10.6.8 combo update v1.1.pkg from the mounted disk image
set restart after install to attempt or force restart.
    click install
it's a good idea to send this installer to computers physicaly in the same location at one time. IE send the installer to 1 lab of computers, then the next lab. for classrooms you might find it better to do 1 classroom or one building at a time.

  • Certreq -submit run locally returns successful but run remote via invoke-command hangs

Good morning I have been struggling with a certificate request script.
The requesting server is in the dmz and I have a management server internally.
I successfully create the Inf file, as well as the req file then copy the req file to my internal management server. Once copied internal I attempt to run the following command from my laptop executing as my admin account
    $Fqdn = "server.dmz.com"
    $managementServer = "InternalServer"
    $Path = "C$\Test\CertRequests"
    Invoke-Command -ComputerName $Managementserver -ScriptBlock {param($CertificateAuthority,$FQDN,$Managementserver,$Path) certreq.exe -submit -attrib "CertificateTemplate:DVNOfflineComputer" -config "$CertificateAuthority" "\\$Managementserver\$Path\$FQDN.req" "\\$Managementserver\$Path\$FQDN.crt"} -ArgumentList $CertificateAuthority,$FQDN,$Managementserver,$Path
This exact command pasted into a powershell window locally on the management server returns the crt file.
Run via invoke-command just hangs forever. I even tried to the Silent=True in inf file as well as -q but neither worked.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Hi Jason,
I reform the script as below, and add the "test-path" to check if the .req and .crt files exist, please also note you haven't assign value to the "$CertificateAuthority" variable:
    $Fqdn = "server.dmz.com"
    $managementServer = "InternalServer"
    $Path = "C$\Test\CertRequests"
    $CertificateAuthority = "something"
    $script={
    param($CertificateAuthority,$FQDN,$Managementserver,$Path)
    test-path "\\$Managementserver\$Path\$FQDN.req"
    test-path "\\$Managementserver\$Path\$FQDN.crt"
    certreq.exe -submit -attrib "CertificateTemplate:DVNOfflineComputer" -config $CertificateAuthority "\\$Managementserver\$Path\$FQDN.req" "\\$Managementserver\$Path\$FQDN.crt"
    Invoke-Command -ComputerName $Managementserver -ScriptBlock $script -ArgumentList $CertificateAuthority,$FQDN,$Managementserver,$Path
If there is anything else regarding this issue, please feel free to post back.

  • Cldg switch command hangs for long time

    Hello Experts ,
We have renamed the veritas volumes vol1 and vol2 of disk group "dg", which is under cluster control.
The renaming of volumes are successfully completed and modification updated in Cluster CCR (cldg sync dg) and volumes are mounted successfully in node002.
We have switch over the disk group "dg" from node002 to node004. The disk group switch over to the node node004 successfully and able to mount the volumes.
Again, we have switch over the disk group "dg" from node004 to node002, but the switch command is not successful and hanged for long time. When we check the /var/adm/messages in node002, the below messages appeared

But what is device mtp0? It doesn't sound like a disk name. It is having SCSI problems. I don't know if these messages are relevant though.
I don't use VxVM as a rule, but your procedure seems reasonable to me.

  • 'ps -ef' command hangs - server needs hard boot

I have a strange issue that has now occurred twice on two different physical servers running OEL 5.6. One server runs Oracle databases and one runs Netbackup.
Server one ran to 100% on the oracle binary directory. The DBA did an 'rm' to remove files and create space. At this point the server seemed to become unstable and when issueing a 'ps -ef' or an 'ls' I got partial output then the server would hang. crtl-c would not even break it. A hard reboot cleared the issue.
Server two had an issue where the Netbackup binary library went above 91% and the admin used 'rm' to clean up some large log files. There was no issue immediately, but sometime druing the night the server stopped running some processes. We could not connect through the Netbackup Admin Console. I issued the 'ps -ef' and got the same unstable response. A hard reboot was needed.
In both cases the server was not sowing any issue with cpu, memory, or io. the load was minimal. also, a 'ps -e' would work fine. In both cases the 'reboot' command never worked. I would get 'shutting down for system reboot' but it would not proceed, requiring a hard reboot.
There were messages about 'clearing orphaned inodes' during the post of each reboot.
I would like to understand what may have been occuring, if it was related to the binary filesystems becoming full and then having files removed, and what would be a method to troubleshoot as the issue is occuring.
    Thank you.

Your observation that the system was unresponsive after using "ps -ef" does not necessarily mean there is a problem with the "ps" command. I think if there was such a serious problem that the ps -ef command could freeze the system then it was more commonly known. I still think your problem is rather system resource or hardware related, but of course, I could be wrong. For what it's worth, you could verify you have the latest procps package installed: http://public-yum.oracle.com/repo/OracleLinux/OL5/latest/x86_64/procps-3.2.7-18.el5.x86_64.rpm.
There can be many reasons for a system to freeze. Problems that can cause such issues can also be external, for instance, network issues, NFS issues, etc. Anyway, you could try to install strace (yum install strace) and then use strace ps -ef to get some clue where it hangs.

  • Format Command Hangs

    Hi,
Other day, a guy was running the format command in SunOS 5.8 and he killed the process to end it. Now whenever you try to run format again, it hangs with the message "Searching for disk...". Does anyone know how to fix this problem? Is there a lock file somewhere that I can delete?
The system has 2 internal drives configured and a disk array connected to it that is not configured or partitioned.
    Thanks

Check /var/adm/messages* for odd hardware errors, perhaps you could try and run devfsadm -C to clear out any devices that isn't there..
You could also try and truss the format process to determine where it hangs.

I tried R3trans -x, this one also hangs.

    Hello Kumar,
If you run a db2 get applications snapshot show details
    this also hangs?
please logon as db2<db2sid> to Database Server and issue
    1. db2 get snapshot for applications on <DBSID>
    2. db2 get snapshot for db on <DBSID>
    3. db2pd -everything
If one of these works it will help track down exactly what the db was doing when it hanged.

    Paul

  • Sudo command hangs when run as winbind user

    Hi,
    It even hangs when running:
    $ sudo
    or
    $sudo -V
So nothing to do with my sudo config - have reverted /etc/sudoers back to default. Even control-c does not work and the process needs to be killed as root, using another session.
The command works fine when ran as a local user. It is only when running as a winbind user that there's a problem.
Any help on what tools can be used to find out what's happening while the command is hanging would be much appreciated. Or even better any ideas on how to stop it hanging would be even better!
Can provide any config files if they help anyone.......
    Many Thanks,
    Richard

    *** UPDATE ***
It seems the version of sudo (v1.8*) supplied with Solaris 11 is not compatible with Winbind users.
    Workaround:
Compile version 1.7* to /usr/local/bin and add this to the beginning of $PATH

  • Ssh via vpn: typing commands hangs (is slow)

    Hello all,
for a long time i have got an annoying problem and i would like to fix it in the near future.
Establishing an ssh-connection via vpn from my Maxbook tomy FreeBSDsystem works
without any problems: the the password-prompt immediately.
But typing in any commands is very slow, it seems to hang anyhow. Typing with a normal
speed is impossible because all letters after the first letters are missing. After 1-2 seconds
the appear and i could keep on typing.
Erasing is the same: i hit the key and it takes a while until the letters are disappearing.
It remembers me a little bit at the keyboard-settings of MacOS itself: there you can configure
    the speed and so on.
Has anybody an idea how to fix this?
    Here some general annotations:
    1) it is MacOS independent (10.5. and 10.6)
    2) is is FreeBSD idenpedent (8.0 and 8.2)
    3) it is terminal-application independent (MacOS-terminal and 3rdparty terminal).
    Thank you very much, Stefan

    Hi Darren,
The user's vim session dies when the users are actively typing.
As for there being a firewall or NAT device between the workstation and the server, yes, there is. The users are in one building and the server is housed in a datacenter in a separate building. The users do not have this issue with out other Solaris 8 and Solaris 10 servers...only this one particular server. A traceroute to the server takes only 5 hops and returns quickly.
As for the logs, I just checked /var/adm/messages and it is reporting the following types of messages over and over.:
    [ID 317013 daemon.notice] bpcd[11746] from some IP
I think these messages are generated from Veritas Netbackup which is administered by a separate team than what I am on, but I can have them investigate.

  • Automator running a sed command hangs...

I'm attempting to pass a lot of text to a Run Shell Script action. Simply put...
    sed 's/= /=/'
Easy right? It should replace all '= ' with '=' to stdin.
For some reason my computer will only run this once. To get past this action I need to restart the computer, reopen Automator and attempt to run the whole workflow again.
I've saved the text to a textedit.rtf and run the sed command from Terminal. It returns results immediately. Again... Automator will only run this once before requiring a restart to get past that action.
I think I've successfully narrowed this down to an Automator problem.
Has anyone seen problems with Automator running shell script actions? If so, what's a good workaround?
    Power Mac G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I've had a similar problem out running shell scripts out of Automator when the automator workflow is saved as an application. The particular script I've been having this problem with runs a bunch of "open /Users/foo/somedocument" commands which work fine if it is run as a workflow in Automator, but hang if the workflow is saved as a application and run by clicking the application icon.
I haven't had time to look into the problem until now, but if I find something I will report back.
