Unmarshaller failed for web.xml - weblogic 8.1 to weblogic 9.2

Hi ,
I am also getting the same Unmarshaller Failed Exception as given below.
Unable to load descriptor myapplication\app.ear\app.war/WEB-INF/web.xml of module app.war . The error is weblogic.descriptor.DescriptorException: Unmarshaller failed.....
Please let me know

Thanks Rob for youir response.
I had actually duplicate url pattern entry in web.xml.
Now I am facing an issue with security principal.
I am getting anoynymous principal for the sessionContext.getCallerPrincipal() .
I am using the same security module which used to work with weblogic 8.1 (I have generated respctive jar file with 9.2 jar though and I could configure a new provider)
Any thoughts on this?

Your web.xml file is out of date.
You have a DTD there for the Servlet 2.2 spec.
The jsp-config tag was introduced to web.xml as of the Servlet 2.4 specification - which is why it is complaining in your editor.
Seeing as you have Tomcat 6, I would recommend you change your web.xml to look like this
- removed the DTD
- change the web-app tag to include schema information

XML Question for web.xml file for LiteWebServer

Hi,
I have no clue of wut tags are required in the web.xml file.
Currently the following code is in my web.xml file and i am trying to run servlets that are located under web-inf/*.class
Pls tell me wuts wrong....
Do i need those mime-mapping tags, session and welcome tags.......... ?
Right now i just want those 2 servlets to work
And wut is this encoding ="UTF-8" in the first line of the xml file. Wut does that do... ? ARe there any others

Try putting your servlets in the WEB-INF\classes directory.

Xmltype.RegisterSchema fails for attribute xml:space

My schema has a definition for the xml space attribute. In our xml docs, we use
xml:space="preserve"
In the schema ( which mostly was generated by a tool ), there is the definition for the xml:space attribute:

When I call xmltype.RegisterSchema, I get:
ORA-31079 unable to resolve reference to element or attribute "space"

i don't think it's legal to add this to the XML Schema. Can you check if XMLSpy thinks the schema is valid. Note that you do not need to declare the xml:space attribute in order to be able to use in your instance documents.

Yes this is the source of my confusiong. It seems to be that WL can be told
 about servlets
 two ways. Firstly through the web.xml file and also via weblogic.properties.
 I don't understand
 why the second one exists.

Modifying web.xml in Weblogic

Hi, I'm deploying an application written in JDeveloper 11.1.1.2.0 to Weblogic 10.3.2.
I'm trying to edit the web.xml file of the application. I tried to edit it here:

However, any changes are not reflected in the application even though I have restarted Weblogic. However, when I change the values in JDeveloper and then deploy to Weblogic, the values are reflected in the web.xml defined above.
Is Weblogic caching this web.xml? If so, how do I modify it?

Hi,
If you will try to edit the "web.xml" from the following Location: c:\Oracle\Middleware\user_projects\domains\uat_domain\servers\AdminServer\tmp\_WL_user\DrawingManagement\2ubcsw\war\WEB-INF\web.xml
Then it will not be reflected. Because as soon as you deploy your Application on WebLogic it Reads the "web.xml" *(At Deploy time Once)* and keeps it in Memory. So if you really want to change the Deployment descriptor then You will need to redeploy the Application after editing it inside your JDeveloper project it self.
Or as an alternative you can use the "plan.xml" feature of weblogic to change the DDs...like: http://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=1107834&tstart=0

JDev 9.0.3_2: web.xml fails DTD validation

Hi all,
I just started using JDev 9.0.3_2 and found that it is trying to validate my web.xml when I build my Project.
It is complaining about the <distributable> Tag inside my web.xml file. It should NOT be complaining about this, but it is obviously using either an outdated DTD or the wrong one.
How can I either point JDev at the correct DTD or get it to stop attemting to validate web.xml?

I think I have figured out a workaround: It appears that JDeveloper is extremely picking about web.xml and validates it in a strict sense. You MUST put your elements in EXACTLY the same order as specified in the DTD, or it throws an error.
However, that doesn't answer my original question: Is there a way to specify the DTD for web.xml (or other elements for that matter, Schema's aside for the moment) or at least turn off this form of validation? If not in the current release, is this coming in 9.0.4 or 9.0.5?

Replacing web.xml values with a deployment plan. Not working on WL 10.3.2

" command.
I got the following message in the command prompt:
Found Web components. Initializing descriptors
filters=0 servlets=0 tags=0
Above command is creating the web.xml and weblogic.xml files but it is not including
the servlet-mapping information. why?

Reference taglibs in web.xml

Hi,
I'm trying to find a way to avoid having to always reference commonly used taglibs in all my jsps. Its kind of a hassle to manually change all references when the taglib.tld changes name.
I looked at the <tag-lib> element for web.xml and am a little confused as to what purpose it serves. Does anyone know if this is suppose to provide the functionality I want or is used for earlier jsp specifications? Thanks.

Which taglibs are you having trouble with that keep renaming their taglib.tld? Are they custom ones or standard ones available over the net?
There are two methods of doing this, one by specifying a uri inside the taglib (like JSTL does) the second by setting up mappings in web.xml.
The web.xml file can provide a mapping between the uri you specify in the jsp, and the actual tld file.
So for example if you have in your jsp:
<%@ taglib prefix="test" uri="http://my.testtag" %>in web.xml you would have the following:
<taglib>
<taglib-uri>/http://my.testtag</taglib-uri>
<taglib-location>/WEB-INF/mytag.tld</taglib-location>
</taglib>This sets up the mapping between the uri you used, and the actual tld on disk
Now if the name of the tld file changes, all you do is change it in web.xml, and all your jsp pages will point at it.
The better method IMO is to use the <uri> element in the tld file.
For instance taking an example from JSTL 1.1 , c.tld
<taglib>
<uri>http://java.sun.com/jsp/jstl/core</uri>
...The c.tld file is bundled with the JSTL file standard.jar in the META-INF directory.
This lets your jsp page just import the taglib with the uri, and the server will find it in the appropriate jar file. No need for any entries in web.xml to do this.
If the tag library is written half-decently nowadays, they follow this pattern, and installing a new taglib becomes painless.

i am very new to tomcat..and using servlets..so plx tell me hw i can modify the server.xml and web.xml....
if my installables are in c:\program files\apache group\tomcat4.1
ok...i have my servlets file in c:\program files\apache group\tomcat4.1\webapps\ap1\WEB-INF\classes..so plz advice me on modifying the server.xml and web.xml....also tell me how and what we do in mapping

for web.xml you need something like this, i took this from the web.xml under the examples directory in tomcat:

basically you need to map the servlet with a class, for servlet-name call it whatever you like, you'll be using this name in the url to access you servlet, for the class give it the name of the class, java complied class, that's it.
