  • Error: Halting this cluster node due to unrecoverable service failure

    Our cluster has experienced some sort of fault that has only become apparent today. The origin appears to have been nearly a month ago yet the symptoms have only just manifested.
    The node in question is a standalone instance running a DistributedCache service with local storage. It output the following to stdout on Jan-22:
    Coherence <Error>: Halting this cluster node due to unrecoverable service failure
    It finally failed today with OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space.
    We're running coherence-3.5.2.jar.
    Q1: It looks like this node failed on Jan-22 yet we did not notice. What is the best way to monitor node health?
    Q2: What might the root cause be for such a fault?
    I found the following in the logs:

    Hi
    It seems like the problem in this case is the call to clear() which will try to load all entries stored in the overflow scheme to emit potential cache events to listeners. This probably requires much more memory than there is Java heap available, hence the OOM.
    Our recommendation in this case is to call destroy() since this will bypass the even firing.
    /Charlie

    Hi Jukka,
              Yeah, I have seen it before. This is not a bug. It is a message by NES
              saying that the proxy tried your request but timed out after 10 seconds.
              This just means either NES is not configured properly or the weblogic
              server is down or there is some other problem.
              How have you configured the proxy ?

  • The crux of syncing with iTunes: Data minimization & changing settings

    Hello everybody,
    I have a couple of questions regarding the syncing of "stuff" between my Mac and my iPhone.
    I used to own an iPod (3rd generation, quite a while ago), and I always had my own system of storing music. The thing is, I have my music on CDs: I understand that, in order to get them on an iPod/iPhone, I need to convert them to a different format. So OK, I rip my music and move it to my device -- but why would I want to keep a copy on my computer? I already have two (CD & iPod), why would I need a third?
    It doesn't seem to be exactly what iTunes is about, but I did manage (at the time with my iPod and now with my iPhone) to make it understand that I wanted it so. I rip my CDs, move them to my device, and then delete them from my computer.
    Of course, nowadays there's the iTunes Store. Since I don't have a physical media for music bought on it, it's OK for that (and only that) music to be stored on the computer -- it's my second copy in case something happens.
    When I got my iPhone, it took me a couple of tries to set iTunes up like I wanted to; during those tries, I erroneously deleted and had to re-transfer my music to the iPhone. The "Sync Music" checkbox is, apparently, extremely powerful.
    A couple of months later, I find myself in a similar pickle over the apps. With the apps, I believe it to be even more understandable: Unlike with the music, I can't even use the apps on my computer -- so why would I want them there? Some apps, particularly games, have an enormous (storage) footprint! I could save many a gigabyte by not having an (unnecessary) copy on my computer. I have them on my device, and the Store knows which ones I purchased -- couldn't I simply re-download them should the need ever arise (i.e., unrecoverable hardware failure)?
    Like with "CD & device" for music, I'd have "AppStore & device" for apps. Everything's backed up. And my hard disk wouldn't be so stuffed.
    My iPhone is my primary device for the apps, since it's the only way for me to use them after all. So I download, update, and occasionally delete apps -- all through my iPhone.
    The thing is, when I connect and sync it with iTunes, things go "wrong". Apps previously synced and later deleted (on the phone) remain on my computer. I never needed them there, now I don't even use them anymore -- and still there's a copy occupying space on my computer. Worse, those apps want to be updated. Apps that I don't have thus don't use want to be updated. How silly is that? The term "Sync" for iTunes appears to be a one-way process: from iTunes to the iPhone. (At least for most intents and purposes; contacts and calendars seem to work just fine in both directions.) But why? I buy all my apps and all my music on the iPhone. Once connected, iTunes warns me that there is "bought content" on my phone, which isn't on my computer (and it's not as trivial as it should be to transfer it back); but it doesn't know what has been removed.
    As I mentioned earlier, the unchecking of the "Sync Music" checkbox solved (most) of my iTunes troubles regarding music.
    But I had no idea I'd have to go to the same trouble for apps. (I believe it has to do with the fact that it seemed so absurd needing/wanting to have a copy of an app on the computer where you can't even use it.)
    So now I came to realize I probably (I'm not even sure myself) want to do the same thing with the apps as with my music: uncheck the "Sync Apps" checkbox for my iPhone.
    But would I have the opportunity to re-download my apps, as I speculated above, should I ever need to? (In other words: Does the AppStore work as a "backup"?)
    And, more to the point: How do I uncheck "Sync Apps" without having my iPhone "wiped"?
    Toying around with that checkbox is what caused me to have to re-transfer my music to the phone a couple of times. And in fact iTunes states, when I try to uncheck the "Sync Apps" checkbox: "All existing apps and their data on the iPhone will be removed." I don't want that at all!
    What is right now: My computer is an incremental storage pool of what was and is on my iPhone, in order to change that setting, the iPhone needs to be wiped of all and any apps.
    What I want: My iPhone is my primary app source, I don't want any app on my computer.
    What I could live with: My iPhone is my primary app source, I want my computer to be a mirror image of my iPhone.
    Ultimately, I have my own system for music and don't need backed up apps on my computer. I use iTunes merely as a tool to transfer data between computer and phone (primarily), as a phone-settings backup system (secondarily), and to manage my iTunes account (really seldom).
    I don't need iTunes for anything else. I have my "music machine" (to which I regularly connect my phone, since it contains a lot of music) somewhere else; surely my laptop with iTunes on it isn't the better option.
    Does anybody have an answer for one of my many questions? Do you have any ideas or suggestions for me on how to deal with the (quite intrusive and obnoxious) iTunes? They would be greatly appreciated.
    Kind regards,
    Nicola

  • Oracle 9.2.0.3.0 patch set for windows - questions

    Hi!
    I have for that some questions. I have oracle 9.2.0.1.0 on a windows 2003 server running with one local database - no real apllication cluster.
    I don't understand which instructions I have to make for oracle upgrade?
    Must I also make the 3. instruction? Connect to databse prior and drop?
    Must I also make the post install action for my database?
    (startup migrate ...)
    what means at post install actions the following:
    'execute these post install actions only if you have one or more databases associated to the upgraded $oracle_homee.
    My database path is e:\oracle\oradata\database my oracle path is e:\oracle\ora92 have I in my case make the post install actions?
    Thanks for help!
    1. When applying this patchset on Windows NT, XP or Windows 2000, you must log onto the system as a user with Administrative privileges
    (e.g. as a user which is a member of the local Administrators group).
    2. Unzip the downloaded patch set file into a new directory.
    3. Drop the xmlconcat function by running the following commands:
    drop public synonym xmlconcat;
    drop function xmlconcat;
    4. Shut down any existing Oracle Server instances in the ORACLE_HOME to be patched with normal or immediate priority. i.e.: Shutdown all instances (cleanly). Stop the database services, and stop all listener, agent and other Oracle processes running in or against the ORACLE_HOME to be installed into.
    5. Perform the following pre-install steps for Real Application Clusters (RAC) enviroments only:
    IN ADDITION TO STOPPING ALL ORACLE SERVICES IN THE ORACLE_HOME TO BE UPGRADED:
    If you are running in a RAC enviroment, stop the following Windows service(s)/devices(s) using the Net Stop command:
    Stop the Windows service named "OracleGSDService"
    Stop the Windows service named "OracleCMService9i".
    Stop the Windows device named "OraFenceService" (This Device does NOT show up as a Service in the Control Panel).
    For Example:
    C:\>net stop OracleGSDService
    C:\>net stop OracleCMService9i
    C:\>net stop OraFenceService
    Once the above steps have been performed on all the nodes of the cluster, you should then be able to upgrade the OSD components to the 9.2.0.3 versions. This can be accomplished by...
    xcopy all the files in the \Disk1\preinstall_rac\osd\*.* directory to the directory in which the OSD components were originally installed on all nodes(typically %SystemRoot%\system32\osd9i).
    Note: You may also be able to look in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Oracle\OSD9i registry key to determine the directory in which the original OSD components were installed. Now the OSD components can be restarted on all the nodes in the cluster.
    C:\>net start OraFenceService
    C:\>net start OracleCMService9i
    C:\>net start OracleGSDService
    After all of the above steps have been completed on all the nodes of the cluster, you are now ready to proceed with the Oracle 9.2.0.3.0 patchset installation.
    6. Start the installer:
    If the current Installer version is less than 2.2.0.18.0 then download the Installer 2.2.0.18.0 from Oracle Metalink where it can be accessed with the bug number 2878462 and choosing the MS Windows NT/2000 Server platform, then run the setup.exe 2.2.0.18.0 from the C:\Program Files\Oracle\oui\install directory .
    7. You may install the Patch Set through either an interactive or a silent installation.
    To perform an interactive installation using the Oracle Universal Installer graphical interface:
    1. Start the installer from the newly installed OUI 2.2.0.18.0 by running the version of setup.exe located at C:\Program Files\Oracle\oui\install and verify
    that the version of the OUI GUI is 2.2.0.18.0 before proceeding.
    2. Follow the steps given below within the installer:
    1. On the Welcome screen, click the Next button. This will display the File Locations screen.
    2. Click the Browse button for the Source... entry field and navigate to the stage directory where you unpacked
    the Patch Set tar file.
    3. Select the products.jar file. Click the Next button
    The products file will be read and the installer will load the product definitions.
    The products to be loaded will be displayed (verify ORACLE_HOME setting for this first).
    4. Verify the products listed and then click on the Install button.
    5. Once the installation has completed successfully, it will display End of Installation. Click on Exit and confirm
    to exit the installer.
    To perform a silent installation requiring no user intervention:
    1. Copy the response file template provided in the response directory where you unpacked the Patch
    Set tar file.
    2. Edit the values for all fields labeled as "<Value Required>" according to the comments and examples
    in the template.
    3. From the unzipped patchset installation area, start the installer by running the setup executable passing
    as the last argument the full path of the response file template you have edited locally with your own
    value of ORACLE_HOME and FROM_LOCATION:
    setup.exe -silent -responseFile <full_path_to_your_response_file>
    Post Install Actions
    Execute these "Post Install Actions" only if you have one or more databases associated to the upgraded $ORACLE_HOME.
    Important Notes
    1: Java VM and XML DB Requirements
    Users who have JVM (Java enabled) or JVM and XDB installed on their 9.2.0.1 databases should make sure that the init.ora parameters shared_pool_size and java_pool_size are each 150 MB or more before running the catpatch.sql upgrade script. Failure to do so could result in an unrecoverable memory failure during running of the script. Please note that JVM and XML DB was shipped as part of the default 9.2.0.1 seed database and will be present unless the user explicitly installed a 9.2.0.1 instance without them.
    2: SYSTEM table space
    If you have JServer installed in the database, you should check to be sure there is at least 10M of free space in the SYSTEM table space before running these actions.
    3: Installing on Cluster Databases
    If you are applying this patch set to a cluster database, then set the CLUSTER_DATABASE initialization parameter to false. After the post-install actions are completed, you must set this initialization parameter back to true.
    To complete the installation of this patch set, you need to start up each database associated with the upgraded $ORACLE_HOME, start the database listener (e.g., lsnrctl start), login using SQL*Plus (e.g., sqlplus "/ as sysdba"), and run the following commands/scripts in order from $ORACLE_HOME within a MIGRATE session. If you are using the OLAP option, make sure that the database listener is up.
    startup migrate
    spool patch.log
    @rdbms/admin/catpatch.sql
    spool off
    Review the patch.log file for errors and re-run the catpatch script after correcting any problems
    shutdown
    startup
    This step is optional - it will recompile all invalid PL/SQL packages now rather than when accessed for the first time - you can also use utlrcmp.sql to parallelize this in multiprocessor machines:
    @rdbms/admin/utlrp.sql
    Execute the following if you use Oracle OLAP option:
    alter user olapsys identified by <password> account unlock
    connect olapsys/<password>
    @cwmlite/admin/cwm2awmd.sql
    exit
    Execute the following script only if you have version 9.2.0.1.0 of Oracle Internet Directory installed in your ORACLE_HOME. Make sure that the database and database listener are running and that all parameters are specified prior to running the script:
    $ORACLE_HOME/bin/oidpatchca.bat
    -connect <Connect String>
    -lsnrport <Listener Port>
    -systempwd <SYSTEM Password>
    -odspwd <ODS Password>
    -sudn <Super-User DN>
    -supwd <Super-User Password>
    -dippwd <Password to register DIP Server>
    Where:
    connect - Database connect string
    lsnrport - Database Listener port
    systempwd - Password of the database 'SYSTEM' user
    odspwd - Password of the database 'ODS' user
    sudn - Super-user DN
    supwd - Super-user Password
    dippwd - New password to register Directory Integration Server. This password must conform to the password policy in the OID server
    Execute the following steps only is you are using the RMAN catalog.:
    rman catalog <user/passwd@alias>
    upgrade catalog;
    upgrade catalog;

    I don't understand which instructions I have to make for oracle upgrade?
    -- You have to follow all the instructions mentioned
    (Just check for few if's for Cluster enabled, OID and OLAP databases. Perform these steps only if they apply)
    Must I also make the 3. instruction? Connect to databse prior and drop?
    -- Yes you should do
    Must I also make the post install action for my database?
    (startup migrate ...)
    -- Yes. Do run catpatch.sql .
    what means at post install actions the following:
    'execute these post install actions only if you have one or more databases associated to the upgraded $oracle_homee.
    -- In this step make sure you do step 1
    1: Java VM and XML DB Requirements
    Otherwise catpatch.sql will fail.
    Do 2 and 3 only if applicable
    Chandar
    My database path is e:\oracle\oradata\database my oracle path is e:\oracle\ora92 have I in my case make the post install actions?

  • Is it a Limitation of Named Cache Storage- Fails for large volume ???

    I debugged the code which loads data from database into the cache as mentioned in the posting : Pre-loading the Cache from Database during application start-up
    Now what this code does is load 869 rows from database into java.util.Map using Hibernate loadAll() method. All is fine uptill this point.
    The next step is to putAll the entries into cache i.e. contactCache.putAll(buffer). This is where it hungs for a min and i see org.eclipse.jdi.TimeoutException followed by below exception stack trace

    So using the local scheme, you place 869 objects into that cache, correct? Does that work?
    I didn't tried with local scheme. But i did try with <read-write-backing-map> scheme as it was giving problem i reduced the size to 100 & changed to local-scheme.
    If you would like me to try with local-scheme i would do so but it will not prove anything as we need Hibernate Cache store to do write's
    >
    Can you explain what the remaining issue is? (What part is failing?)
    There are several issues and i am really striving to make it work :)-
    Here is the list
    - revert back to <read-write-backing-map> scheme so that i can pre-poulate the cache from database so that subsequent reads and writes hit the cache instead of database
    - to pre-populate the cache during application start-up . We use Spring 2.5, Hibernate 3.2
    - the queryContract(contract) method is similar to Search screen i.e. it takes sample contract object as an argument with some attributes populated. I am using Filter API to return the List of Contract objects based on the search parameters of sample contract as follows
    Filter filter = new EqualsFilter(IdentityExtractor.INSTANCE, contract);
    Set setEntries = contractCache.entrySet(filter); The above code expects all the attributes of sample contract object are fully populated and if not it throws Null Pointer Exception
    For example if date attribute is null then Null Pointer Exception is thrown at the following line
    writer.writeLong(2, this.date.getTimeInMillis());
    I greatly appreciate the inventor of Tangosol Coherence product responding to my queries on the forum. Hopefully with his help i will be able to resolve these issues :)-

  • Time machine and wiki data recovery

    I'm running into an issue where I need to recover wiki data from a Time Machine back-up..
    The backstory:
    The wiki server was running on a 2008 Mac Pro which had an unrecoverable disk failure.  Given the age of the machine, the power it drew, and the fact that I dont need the horsepower of a macPro to host the wiki, I picked up a new Mac Mini to host the server data. It is a very low usage system, so the Mini should have all the power I need..  Not to mention its cost is over $2,000 less..
    I've been able to recover all the files I need from the Time Machine backup disk, except for the Wiki..     The last time I needed to do something like this was 10.6, and everything was in flat files, so it was a simple copy operation..  Now however it looks like there is a postgres database to deal with..  Being that I only have access to the files on the TM backup, Im not sure how to recover the wiki.
    My thought was to simply to a TM restore, but because Im going from a MacPro to a MacMini, it barks that its a different hardware type and will not complete the restore..
    So the end question is, has anyone ever had to recover an Apple wiki, from a Time Machine backup disk, running 10.8, with the destination being a Mac Mini?  If yes, how did you overcome not running the postgres database?
    Thanks..

    Restore these items, then reboot:
    /Library/Server/PostgreSQL For Server Services
    /Library/Server/Wiki

  • Download from internet with lingo

    Can I write lingo that will allow a Director movie to download a file from the internet and put it, say, onto the desktop of the user's computer?  I don't mean in a "stealth" fashion.  I mean a Director movie that the person chooses to run because they want to download that file.
    I tried downloadNetThing, but from the example in the manual, I can't seem to get the syntax sorted out properly, or there is some other problem.  Here's the code I'm currently trying:
    on exitFrame me
      downloadTheNetThing("http://www.mydomain.com\images\myinstaller.exe",c:\Documents and Settings\owner\desktop&"myinstaller")
    end
    Ideas?
    Thanks.
    Dewey

    The first problem is that I said to not use "exitFrame". Perhaps I should have used stronger language.
    I modified a script from my library to do file downloading and I wrote a behavior to demo how to use it.  Try them out and read the code carefully.
    Paste the following code into a Parent script named "FileDownLoader".
    -- FileDownLoader Parent Script
    property  pActiveNetOperations  --  Data on current network operations in progress.
    -- private static property
    property  this  -- reference to this object. DO NOT access directly.
    -- PUBLIC METHODS
    on getInstance me  -- Use this to get an object instance
      return me.new()
    end getInstance
    -- NOTE:  if you make changes to this script you MUST call this handler before running your program again,
    --              otherwise your changes will not exist.  ie. in the message window:  script("FileDownLoader").clearStatics()
    on clearStatics me
      me.script.this = void
    end clearStatics
    -- Method to call to download a file to your computer
    -- Makes callback which returns: Error:Boolean, ErrorMessage:String
    on downLoadFile me, URL, FilePath, CallingOb, CallbackHandler
      -- store info about this operation for monitoring and callbacks.
      NetOpData = [#id:0, #CallbackOb:CallingOb, #CallBackHandler:CallbackHandler]
      NetOpData.id = downloadNetThing(URL, FilePath)
      -- if there is a callback object and a handler then add this data to pActiveNetOperations. Otherwise we are done.
      if NetOpData.CallBackOb.ObjectP AND NetOpData.CallBackHandler.SymbolP then
        pActiveNetOperations.add(NetOpData)   -- store callback info
        -- setup timeout object to monitor net operation completion
        if pActiveNetOperations.count = 1 then
          timeout().new("NetMonitor", 250, #monitorNetOps  , me)  -- check network operations four times a second.
        end if
      end if
    end downLoadFile
    -- PRIVATE METHODS
    on new me
      if me.script.this.objectP then return me.script.this  -- enforce Singleton pattern
      me.script.this = me
      pActiveNetOperations = []
      return me.script.this

  • Questions about product recovery DVD??

    Hi,
    after having experienced an unrecoverable boot failure with Windows XP Home Edition on my Equium A60-181 I had no choice but to use the product recovery DVD. I noticed there was something called expert mode I assume this lets you create a custom installation of the factory default. So I'm wondering is it possible to format the harddrive as FAT32 instead of NTFS create a partition for Linux and still use the product recovery DVD?? In case you are wondering I want FAT32 so I can safely read and write my XP partition with Linux since NTFS writing is still experimental at the moment.
    Cheers,
    Richard S.

    Hi
    If the second operation system (e.g. Windows 2000, Linux) should be installed, please change the CD-ROM to the "three of three" or "two of two". Please, see the Recovery CD-ROM.
    Drive "X" is the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive. With the keys "Alt+i" and the up and down cursor keys, it is possible to change the drive letter. Select the "*.GHO" file. (e.g. GAR1ENP2.GHO) and press "Enter". The "Select source partition from image file" appears. For "OK", simple press "Enter".
    At the next window, it is possible to choose the Hard Drive Disk (HDD) on which the recovery file should be installed. Normally, only one HDD is in the machine. Just press "Enter". On the next window, it is posible to choose the partition on which the recovery file should be installed. If the HDD has no partition, the Recovery Utility will generate one. The size of this partition can be adjusted. The size field is marked, just insert the desired size in MB.
    Mark the destination partition and press "Enter". A question appears: "Proceed with partition load?". Choose "Yes" to start the recovery process.
    Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the Recovery.
    Best regards

  • XI Replaying Messages

    Hi,
    Just after a bit of advice.
    Theoretical scenario is :
    Unrecoverable system failure in the ERP system during batch window means that we have to recover to last backup which was taken immediately prior to the batch run. I therefore need to replay all integration points including anything that has come through XI. Replaying Files shouldn't be a problem as they would have been archived. However how do I replay other messages originating via SOAP, HTTP etc that were previously marked in XI as successful.
    Anyone know of any papers out there that have touched on XI restore, recovery and more specifically to me 'replay' strategies.
    Thanks
    Nigel

    Hi Michal,
    Thanks for the reply. Its very useful and I can see its use in both a development environment and as an ad-hoc utility in the production envirnoment when you need to reprocess a single message.
    However I think the very nature of the multiple steps you have to go through for each message makes it unsuitable when you need to process potentially hundreds of messages.
    Anyone out there have any other more bulk oriented solutions.
    Thanks
    Nigel

  • Dealing with hard timeout of guarded service

    Hi, I'm investigating the behavior the cause of and subsequent behavior after a hard timeout of a guarded service. In my experience, the grid members are unable to recover properly. I am trying to figure out whether there is something in our configuration that may be aggravating the situation, and also see whether I might be able to improve the behavior of our client code.
    What I have done is purposely lower the service guardian's timeout, to about 25 seconds, so that a certain EntryProcessor will always time-out. The behavior I see after the timeout is very similar to the behavior we see when the problem crops up in the real world. I know that I can raise the timeout or use the PriorityTask API, but even if I do that, we may run into timeouts due to deadlock. If that happens, I want to know what I can expect the grid to do.
    Here's what I'm seeing:
    I am running 2 storage-enabled members with backup-count=0. I am running my "client" as a non-storage-enabled member.
    First, the client kicks off the EntryProcessor:
    Map<Object, Integer> readProcessorResult = requestCache.invokeAll(AlwaysFilter.INSTANCE, processor);
    The two members begin logging successful executions of the EntryProcessor. Then, one of the members happens to run it against an entry that takes longer than the service guardian's timeout. We get a soft and hard timeout:

      },Meanwhile, my client, who ran the invoke() with the EntryProcessor, has received a message stating "no storage enabled members exist," which although it may be true doesn't seem like it's really the cause of the problem.
    Could I be having problems because all my cluster members are executing the same kind of long-running EntryProcessor and all of them are getting service guardian timeouts at around the same time? How do I deal with that? For example, what if a database is running very slowly one day and my entry processors all start to execute slowly? I don't want my whole grid having problems. Should I, for example, limit the number of concurrent EntryProcessors to < count of grid members by using a LimitFilter?
    What does it mean that there was a timeout waiting for the cluster to stop?
    And what about the client? If I get an exception after running a grid command, is it valid to wait a few seconds for things to stabilize and then try again? What's my best bet as far as that goes?
    Thanks! And let me know if I should file a support request instead.

    I appreciate the responses so far, but unfortunately they give me no new information.
    I am aware that I can try to avoid timeouts by using the PriorityTask API and heartbeats, but that still gives me no guarantee that I will not run into a deadlock situation and encounter a timeout. That is fine as long as my grid can deal with it. Currently, it does not behave well when that happens (all members eventually die). I challenge anyone reading this post to try running an entry processor on their grid that is designed to time out (not by using sleep() as that is interruptable via a soft timeout). All your members will probably encounter the timeout at the same time, and it probably will not end well. If, however, you can handle this situation or have some approach that mitigates it, I would love to hear from you!
    I am also aware that I can disable the service guardians, or configure them to only log and take no action. However, this leaves me vulnerable to deadlocks.
    Therefore, I would still appreciate any responses that address either of these two issues:
    1. Configuration changes or other fixes that allow my members to recover successfully from a service timeout
    2. Operational best practices that allow my grid to continue running even if an entry processor that is running on every member of the grid times out at the same time. For example, limiting the number of concurrent entry processors.One operational best practice is design your system so you can't get into a deadlock. If it can get into a deadlock once, it can get into it many times. If a system does that, it is not a well-behaving or well-designed system.
    If your code can get into a deadlock across the cluster, that usually means that you are trying to do something which you should not have, like trying to operate on multiple resources in an arbitrary order while holding locks on them (e.g. violating the threading guidelines), which is the typical case of a distributed deadlock, and against which you can guard with ordering your multiple locking operations in a consistent order, but you should not expect Coherence to retry and possibly get into the same problem, as all you would achieve with it is that you converted the deadlock into a livelock.
    Coherence is not supposed to guard against your errors. With the guardian it gives you a way to find out what your error is, but it should not attempt the impossible by trying to correct it. You should design your system so that it does not have this kinds of errors.
    If you think there is a specific reproducible problem in how Coherence reacts to your code which can bring down the system, then create a test case and submit it in a SR. The kinds of exceptions you get make it possible that it may be necessary. If it is indeed Coherence's fault that it dies and not something you did, then I am fairly certain that it will be given quite high priority considering it is an error which can bring a cluster down.
    Coherence server-side constructs have an API contract. Single foremost aspect of that is that the operations complete without an error (unless otherwise documented) within a small period of time. If it goes against this then it has to provide feedback or customization with PriorityTask/GuardSupport. A code which can deadlock goes against this contract. After all we are speaking about a grid, not a distributed process manager.
    I agree that the grid should not die due to a deadlock, but you should not expect Coherence to fix a deadlock either. But dying due to an exception and having a distributed deadlock is two different and independent issues.
    Best regards,
    Robert

    Hi,
    Did you check the documentation about how to integrate Coherence with Spring applications? Check it out: Integrating Spring with Coherence
    It seems that you are experiencing a communication problem between your web container and the Coherence cluster. Check if you are able to access simple caches and execute sample put() and get()s. Maybe the problem is not about Spring itself, it could be a communication problem.
    Cheers,
    Ricardo Ferreira

  • Catalogue backup/copy only

    Can I make a backup, or copy, of the PSE7 Catalogue without the picture files themselves?
    The Catalog Backup feature backs up media files as well, which seems curious as Adobe have engineered the Catalog as a separate entity. As I regularly archive all of my media files onto a NAS, I dont want the additional time and storage overhead of backing them up again through PSE.
    In the event of an unrecoverable catalog failure, I would like to be able to restore it either from a backup of some kind (Vista, for example) or from an archive of the Catalog file(s) from my NAS... and also be assured that my stacks, version sets and tags would be intact. There would of course likely be some disparity between the (archived) catalog used for restore and the current picture files, as these are managed independently. I assume I could resolve any such by 1) restoring any broken links AND 2) adding unmanaged files back into the catalog AND 3) accepting some loss of tags, stacks and version sets created after the Catalog was archived?
    PSE 7 appears to store the Catalog in a folder (given the name of the Catalog) under C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\Catalogs. I've copied the folder and given it a new name and then opened the "new" Catalog in PSE. It seems to work, but I haven't spent any time working with the new Catalog to check all is well.
    Any help or experience would be appreciated,
    Thanks

    Can I make a backup, or copy, of the PSE7 Catalogue without the picture files themselves?
    You have to do this in Windows.
    The Catalog Backup feature backs up media files as well, which seems curious as Adobe have engineered the Catalog as a separate entity.
    I don't find it curious at all. It's a tool, designed for a specific purpose. It was not designed for your purpose.
    In the event of an unrecoverable catalog failure, I would like to be able to restore it either from a backup of some kind (Vista, for example) or from an archive of the Catalog file(s) from my NAS... and also be assured that my stacks, version sets and tags would be intact. Back up the catalog file at the same time as you back up your picture files. No discrepancy, no loss of anything valuable, other than changes made after the backup. By the way, if you do things right, there shouldn't any need for "1) restoring any broken links".

  • G50-45 AMD A8

    Good morning. I am curious if it is possible to make this laptop run faster. When I got this laptop I only had so much money to work with so I had to get something slower. I use this a lot for gaming and school. So was curious what can, if anything, could be done to get it to run faster without damaging it. I know that there a many folks out there that is smart about computers. Maybe let me know what other processors that these may take. Thank you for reading. I also occassionaly have an issue where my display driver will stop working. What can I do to fix it? I use an external USB mouse. I never use the touchpad. I would like to permanently disable the touchpad. How can I do this? Right now I have to go to Control Panel>Mouse>ELAN and sometimes it will disable then or I may have to click disable. It does this everytime I log on or reboot the computer. Thank you.

    I have been using my G50 for a few weeks now. Had to replace an older Lenovo which was a great performer for 4 years!!! Then is had a fatal and unrecoverable HD failure.  Anyway, let's be honest....this machine sucks. Everyone on here (that I've read) complains about the pathetic speed (lack thereof) of this POS.  I am so disappointed. The other Lenovo was also a value buy and it was great. Don't knw what to do, but like everyone else on these boards, my POS struggles to do the simplist task. Really unbelievable. This will be my last Lenovo unless these mother humpers offer a solution.
