Hi,
Did you check the documentation about how to integrate Coherence with Spring applications? Check it out: Integrating Spring with Coherence
It seems that you are experiencing a communication problem between your web container and the Coherence cluster. Check if you are able to access simple caches and execute sample put() and get()s. Maybe the problem is not about Spring itself, it could be a communication problem.

Ricardo Ferreira

• Implementing Oracle DCN with Coherence Cache in a weblogic 10 app server

I m trying to implements a DCN ( Database change notification ) on oracle to notify a listener of an event of DB so I can update Coherence Cache.
I followed the tutorial here and it is working fine using a sample program with a main method to execute the listener class and keep it running.
My question is how would this notification and listener gets implemented on a production environment since my local test was only running a main method to keep the listener running? what technology to use to keep the listener always running on the background and receive the notification from the database )?
would a [weblogic startup class|http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E13222_01/wls/docs81/ConsoleHelp/startup_shutdown.html] work for this purpose?
We are using Weblogic 10 as our app server.

That's a very simple question with (many) potentially complex answers. I think that first uou need to study information on TimesTen to understand what it is and what it does. Then you need to relate that to you current performance bottleneck (I assume you have analysed those). If your bottleneck is database access then maybe TimesTen can help you.
Please bear in mind that TimesTen is not a 'transparent' drop in performance booster. To implement TimesTen and to realise significant performance improvement you will almost certainly need to make changes to both the application and the overall architecture. The cost/difficulty of doing that also needs to be factored in.

Hi,
It would be helpful to others if you say which version/patch you are using.
To answer number 1, that has always been a feature of business, you don't get the option to overwrite, its always been a pain.
I have not come across issue 2 and I am sure I have imported many rules with the cross dimensional operator in them ->

• Architectural Choice for accessing Coherence Cache Server

I am a newbie and have a coherence use-case question.
When accessing an independent coherence cache server from application code such as an EJB deployed in WLS, architecturally does one write up an entity which is then used as a sole point of
access to the resource (coherence cache server) for querying, adding, modifying entries or are the accesses to the coherence cache server split and spread among the application code.
For example,
1. I write an EJB (EJB 1) which recieves the request from other EJB's (EJB 2, EJB 3), EJB 1 runs requests from EJB2 and EJB 3 on the Coherence Cache Server and acts as the sole point of
contact to the resource.
2. EJB 2 and EJB 3 both run requests against the coherence cache server. No fixed entity in architecture repsonsible for interaction with Coherence Cache Server.
Which is more common ?

stevephe wrote:
Yes you could treat Coherence as a "pluggable" resource, just like a database. But that, just like in the case of a database, wouldn't boil it down to a single entity/interface. You'd treat Coherence as a "integration tier" resource that you'd "plumb in" just like you would a database, thus shielding your application's "domain" objects from integration-level concerns. That's how I've tiered our application, although we aren't inside a container like Weblogic/WebSphere/etc. The domain objects specify their persistence requirements via a multiplicity of interfaces; those interfaces have a number of implementations in the integration tier, one set of which just happens to be a Coherence set. You can use a "registry" approach to pick up the appropriate implementations (we use Spring injection.) Have a look at the Coherence book from Apress for more details.Apress? You mean Packt, don't you?

• CQL Join on Coherence Cache with Composite Key

I have a Coherence Cache with a composite key and I want to join a channel to records in that cache with a CQL processor. When I deploy the package containing the processor, I get the following error:
+italics14:32:35,938 | alter query SimpleQuery start                                                                        | [ACTIVE] ExecuteThread: '7' for queue: 'weblogic.kernel.Default (self-tuning)' | CQLServer | FATAL+
+14:32:35,938 | alter query >>SimpleQuery<< start+
+specified predicate requires full scan of external source which is not supported. please modify the join predicate | [ACTIVE] ExecuteThread: '7' for queue: 'weblogic.kernel.Default (self-tuning)' | CQLServer | FATAL+
I think that I'm using the entire key. If I change the key to a single field, it deploys OK. I found a similar issue when I defined a Java class to represent the composite key. Is it possible to join in this way on a composite key cache?
I could define another field which is a concatenation of the fields in the composite key but this is a little messy.
My config is as below:
<wlevs:caching-system id="MyCache" provider="coherence" />
<wlevs:event-type-repository>
<wlevs:event-type type-name="SimpleEvent">
<wlevs:properties>
<wlevs:property name="field1" type="char" />
<wlevs:property name="field2" type="char" />
</wlevs:properties>
</wlevs:event-type>
</wlevs:event-type-repository>
<wlevs:channel id="InChannel" event-type="SimpleEvent" >
<wlevs:listener ref="SimpleProcessor" />
</wlevs:channel>
<wlevs:processor id="SimpleProcessor">
<wlevs:listener ref="OutChannel" />
<wlevs:cache-source ref="SimpleCache" />
</wlevs:processor>
<wlevs:channel id="OutChannel" event-type="SimpleEvent" >
</wlevs:channel>
<wlevs:cache id="SimpleCache" value-type="SimpleEvent"
key-properties="field1,field2"
caching-system="MyCache" >
</wlevs:cache>
and the processor CQL is as follows:
<processor>

<rules>
<query id="SimpleQuery">

select I.field1, I.field2 from InChannel [now] as I,
SimpleCache as S where
I.field1 = S.field1 and
I.field2 = S.field2
</query>
</rules>
</processor>
Thanks
Mike

Unfortunately, joining on composite keys in Coherence is not supported in the released versions. This will be supported in 12g release.
As you mention, defining another field as key, which is the concatenation of the original keys is the workaround.

• Starting applications with interdependencies in coherence-cache

Hello,
is there a way to force CEP to wait for an application to have a state of RUNNING (or status of "Module is currently running" from the wlevsdeploy.jar) before it attempts to start the next application in the deployments.xml?
there is a coherence-cache dependency between the two applications which trigger exceptions if the 2nd application is started before the 1st has been fully started and is a RUNNING state.
thanks,
-Andres

Here is the exception, note the the core application is running just fine before and after the exception,

• Querying in coherence cache configured with persistence layer

Since querying in Coherence takes into account only those objects that are already in cache, are there any commonly used techniques for improving query performance in scenarios where Coherence is used with database as persistent layer (to cache more data than it can fit in the memory)?

Hi User,
From the look of the error I'd guess you are running on Windows. Windows has a rather odd behavior of dropping your IP address if it detects a physical disconnection on the NIC, which ultimately results in a local cluster becoming unusable. Please see http://wiki.tangosol.com/display/COH35UG/Deployment+Considerations+-+Windows for details on how to address this. Also considering that you are running everything on a single machine you may wish to explicitly bind to 127.0.0.1 (not localhost), to avoid issue entirely. Note that binding to 127.0.0.1 is only supported starting with Coherence version 3.4, and you will also need to configure Coherence with a TTL of 0 to enable the loopback based cluster. See http://wiki.tangosol.com/display/COH35UG/unicast-listener#address, and http://wiki.tangosol.com/display/COH35UG/multicast-listener#time-to-live for details on these settings.

• Toplink JPA with Coherence deployment to Weblogic 10.3

Hi,
I have created an EJB application using Toplink JPA and Coherence. I would like to deploy this application to Weblogic 10.3.
During the startup of Weblogic I have specified the Java option as
-Dtangosol.coherence.cacheconfig=D:/JDEV_11g/jdeveloper/jdev/mywork/CoherenceApp/CoherenceProject/src/META-INF/coherence-cache-config.xml.
Persistence.xml and coherence-cache-config.xml are palced inside the jar file.
When I execute the ejb client program, during the method call, I can see that coherence is started but it uses the cache-config from the coherence.jar file instaed of the value I have set during startup. How can I make weblogic use my cache-config.xml? I have included the log file entries from server:

Hi Raji,
You mentioned:
>

>
Persistence.xml and coherence-cache-config.xml are palced inside the jar file.
>
It appears that these are conflicting; as the system property indicates that the config should be read from a file, whereas the file is actually deployed in a jar.
That being said, I would suggest double checking that the system property is actually being set in the JVM. In my testing, if I specify a cache config that does not exist, an exception will be thrown:

• Deployment issue related to cached ressources

Hi,
My projetc is well compiling with no error nor warning, but it doesn't deploy and raises a compilation error at deployment time.
The error is as follows :

Error while loading process.
The process domain encountered the following errors while loading the process "InterfaceOrderToActivateEBF" (revision "1.0"): BPEL validation failed.
BPEL source validation failed, the errors are:

I guess it is a cache related issue because the cause element (+BirdieActivationResult+) doesn't exist anymore in the WSDL of my workspace. Furthermore the pointed WSDLbelongs to a temporary directory (+/apps/oracle/product/10.1.3.1/OracleAS_1/bpel/domains/default/tmp/.bpel_InterfaceOrderToActivateEBF_1.0_80de9d93600af22ba2c067695f48a6c6.tmp+). However this directory doesn't exist on the server !
Trying to clear WSDL cache didn't change anything.
Trying to deploy project from bpel console didn't work either.
Restarting the server didn't work either.
ORacle SOA Suite / JDevelopper : 10.1.3.4
I'm stucked at this point and don't know what to do.
Thank you for any help,
Regards,
Seb!

From the OS cd to the directory
/apps/oracle/product/10.1.3.1/OracleAS_1/bpel/domains/default/tmp/
run the command
ls -a
This will display any hidden files. You may find that there is a directory something like bpel_InterfaceOrderToActivateEBF_1.0. If this exists undeploy the InterfaceOrderToActivateEBF process from the BPEL Console. Then delete the directory identified above.
It is good to bounce SOA Suite if possible.
Then redeploy.
cheers
James

• Issues with Query Caching in MII

Hi All,
I am facing a strange problem with Query caching in MII query. Have created one xacute query and set cache duration 30 sec. The associated BLS with the query retrieves data from SAP system. In the web page this value is populated by executing an iCommand. Followings are the steps I followed -
Query executed for first time, it retrives data from SAP correctly. Lets say value is val1
At 10th sec Value in SAP changed to val2 from val1.
Query excuted at 15th sec, it gives value as val1. Which is expected as it gives from cache.
Query is executed 1t 35th sec, it gives value as val2 retriving from SAP system. Which is correct.
Query executed at 40th sec, it gives value as val1 from cache. Which is not expected.
I have tried with java cache clear in browser and JCo cache of the server.
Same problem I have seen for tag query also..
MII Version - 12.0.6 Build(12)
Any thoughts on this.
Thanks,
Soumen

Soumen Mondal,
If you are facing this problem from the same client PC and in the same session, it's very strange.. but if there are two sessions running on the same PC this kind of issue may come..
Something about caching:
To decide whether to cache a query or not, consider the number of times you intend to run the query in a minute. For data changing in seconds, and queried in minutes, I would recommend not to cache query at all.
I may give a typical example for query caching in a query on material master cached for 24 hours, where we know that after creating material master, we are not creating a PO on the same day.

• Deployment issue: compatiblity issue with ODP, instant vs full client on PC

After a lot of deployment issues with full client, we thought we had the solution with Instant Client.
It worked great for a while, but now some of our users have full Oracle 11 client installed after installing our Instant Client because of other software that requires full client.
As soon as they install full client, our Instant Client breaks:
Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation. (mscorlib)
The type initializer for 'Oracle.DataAccess.Client.OracleClientFactory' threw an exception.
The provider is not compatible with the version of Oracle client (Oracle Data Provider for .NET)
Our instant client is compiled with 2.111.6.20, the client is installing a different version (though I tried installing exactly same version does not seem to work either)
I've been experimenting to redirect the version to another assembly but no success.
How can I make Instant Client and Full client co-exist? The whole idea of using Instant was to be independent of other software who needs ODP.NET...
What do you do when 2 apps need different versions of ORacle ODP.NET (e.g. 2.111.6.0 vs. 2.112.1.0)?
Note that I don't have source code access to "our" app, so if it is at all possible through configuration, that is a prefered solution.
I also don't control our customers deployment strategy, they roll out apps over 1000's of PC's

According to documentation at [http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E20434_01/doc/win.112/e23174/featConfig.htm]
>
Configuration File Support
For customers who have numerous applications on a computer that depends on a single version of ODP.NET, the Windows Registry settings for a given version of ODP.NET may not necessarily be applicable for all applications that use that version of ODP.NET. To provide more granular control, ODP.NET Configuration File Support allows developers to specify ODP.NET configuration settings in an application config, web.config, or a machine.config file.
If a computer does not require granular control beyond configuration settings at the ODP.NET version level, there is no need to specify ODP.NET configuration settings through configuration files.
The following is an example of a web.config file for .NET Framework 2.0 and higher:

<configuration>
<oracle.dataaccess.client>
<settings>
<add name="DllPath" value="C:\oracle\bin"/>
<add name="FetchSize" value="131072"/>
<add name="PromotableTransaction" value="promotable"/>
<add name="StatementCacheSize" value="10"/>
<add name="TraceFileName" value="C:\odpnet2.trc"/>
<add name="TraceLevel" value="63"/>
<add name="TraceOption" value="1"/>
</settings>
</oracle.dataaccess.client>
</configuration>

• Help me with this caching issue

I have a JSP page where the user can make some changes and press a
submit button to update the changes.
After that the control is back in the same page.
If the user clicks the browser back button at this time , the previous page without the changes is being displayed
If the user presses the submit button a couple of times and then press the back button in the browser all the intermediate pages are being displayed
Is there any way to avoid this
Please advise
TIA

The Back button is my long time enemy and as such I found ways to beat him (and call him my punk!). The key here is Javascript.
First, never use an use a type=button with JS to built a query string and call your next page using location.replace() NOT location.href. The method replace() will not make an entry in the browser's history.
******* Sample ********
window.location.replace("nextpage.jsp?arg1=" + form.field1.vaule + "&arg2=" + form.field2.vaule)
******* End ********
Second, your tag should not have method OR action defined. You should define an onSubmit event with JS to cancel the sumbit action.
******* Sample ********

******* End ********
Finally, if you want to make sure the back button is NEVER even enabled add a dumby page as your start page (i.e. index.htm) that uses JS to pop
open a new window with your true start page.
******* Sample ********

Loader

var intLeftPos = (screen.width) ? (screen.width-800)/2 : 0;
var intTopPos = (screen.height) ? (screen.height-600)/2 : 0;
var urlstring = '\Start.jsp'
var newWindow = window.open(urlstring,'winAppMain','height=600,width=800,top='+intTopPos+',left='+intLeftPos+',toolbar=no,minimize=no,status=yes,memubar=no,hotkeys=no,location=no,resizable=yes,scrollbars=yes');

• Coherence-cache-config.xml not visible from EAR

hello all.
I've met following issues. The coherence does not see my custom cache-config.xml and thereby uses the default from coherence.jar.
Environment:
1. WLS 10.3, Coherence 3.7, jvm 1.6
2. the active-cache is deployed as shared library
3. the dedicated coherence cluster is configured through WLS Admin console and all started with -Dtangosol.coherence.cacheconfig=d:\OracleFM\R11.1.1.5\WLSGeneric\user_projects\domains\mvn_domain1\coherence-config\coherence-cache-config.xml.. The output shows that the cluster is started and my cache service is started also:
Services
ClusterService{Name=Cluster, State=(SERVICE_STARTED, STATE_JOINED), Id=0, Version=3.7.1, OldestMemberId=1}
InvocationService{Name=Management, State=(SERVICE_STARTED), Id=1, Version=3.1, OldestMemberId=1}
PartitionedCache{Name=MVN_Test_Service, State=(SERVICE_STARTED), LocalStorage=enabled, PartitionCount=257, BackupCount=1, AssignedPartitions=257, BackupPartitions=0}
Cache services are configured with auto-start=true
4. the coherence.jar is placed in EAR\lib\coherence.jar
5. I've got tried to place coherence-cache-config.xml in the following places within EAR
EAR
APP-INF\classes\coherence-cache-config.xml
EAR
lib\coherence-cache-config.xml
EAR
MyModule.jar\META-INF\coherence-cache-config.xml
The result is that coherence uses default config file from coherence.jar instead of the custom one that deployed with EAR. In fact I do not have ideas what is wrong there....
And yet, the coherence that deployed with EAR sucessfully joined to cluster, but only to Service Management. From output: "Member 2 joined Service Management with senior member 1"

Hello Robert. Thanks for prompt reply.
If by saying that you deployed coherence.jar as a shared library means that you put it on the server classpath
In fact I didn't say that. I said that "4. the coherence.jar is placed in EAR\lib\coherence.jar"
Below the output from dedicated Coherence server

You may see that I have two dedicated Coherence servers member 1 and member 2 that joined in coherence cluster. The member 3 and member 4 are WLS deployed coherence. I mean that I have two WLS that configured to join Coherence cluster, and it's happened after the application had been deployed on both of them.
