Unsatisfied link error  with Java API

Although I've gotten the command-line dbxml working ok, I can't get a Java program to work (even copying others' examples). Using NetBeans, I get this error message:
UnsatisfiedLinkError: no libdb_java43 in java.library.path
I am confused by the FAQ entry at http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/berkeley-db/faq/xml_faq.html#24 as well as the instructions at dbxml/docs/ref/build_win/intro.html within the download that says that Java support is not built automatically. Is it just a means of adding something to some path, or do you have to build it even if you use the Windows .msi installer?
First of all, I thought that the Windows installer would take care of it, no? Anyways, I am confused by the combination of Classpath options both within Windows System variables and as a means to attach to Netbeans projects...
I'd rather not be dealing with the command line at all Help!!! Remember, I'm new to Java, NetBeans, and even Windows (being a Mac user till recently)...
thanks,
Brett

Hi,
Thanks very much for the response, but I still have the problem after reading your other response...
Actually, in addition to the command line tool for BDBXML, I am able to successfully run the Java examples such as java dbxml.gettingStarted.simpleQuery -h dbEnv (the dbAccess example you gave in the other thread just gave me an "input" command-line which I didn't know how to get out of besides closing the window)--though I still don't understand how I am accessing "dbxml" while I am in the subdirectory (I know the "." must be accessing a method of this class somehow (apparently via the Classpath or Path setting?), but I'm confused about how the syntax works exactly such as to make my own; will my file hierarchy give me a clue somehow and if not how?--I didn't detect any exact pattern).
Anyways, as I said, I am able to run the Java examples, but when I write my own program in Netbeans (using an example from a book), using these import statements:
import com.sleepycat.dbxml.*;
import com.sleepycat.db.*;
import java.io.*;
...I still get the error. I suppose this means that the problem is with my Netbeans configuration? Any ideas how to fix that? I've tried setting what seem to me to be the relevant sections within Netbeans (adding the same files and folders in the System PATH and CLASSPATH--i.e., the jar files under /jar and /bin and /bin/debug (from the main BDB folder)--under Project Properties->Libraries->Compile/Run/Compile Tests/Run Tests), and it doesn't change anything.
Just in case, here's my Path/Classpath information (that I get from accessing System Properties of "My Computer", then clicking Environment variables in the Advanced tab):

  • How do I resolve connection error with Java API listener?

    I have created a listener using the new Java API (see How do I implement a listener using new MDM Java API? for background). When I run it, I get this error message
    Mar 19, 2008 3:57:58 PM com.sap.mdm.internal.net.ConnectionImpl finalize
    INFO: Disconnect was not called. Cleaning up connection in finalize.
    This message is triggered whenever I generate a data event that I would otherwise expect to be captured and handled by the listener. I have tried a number of things, including setting the connection to NO_TIMEOUT and trying SimpleConnection versus ConnectionPool, but always with the same result.
    Here is some sample code for the listener:
    public class DataListenerImpl implements DataListener {
         public void recordAdded(RecordEvent evt) {
              System.out.println("===> Record Added Event");
              System.out.println(evt.getServerName());
         public void recordCheckedIn(RecordEvent evt) {
              System.out.println("===> Record Checked In Event");
              System.out.println(evt.getServerName());
         public void recordCheckedOut(RecordEvent evt) {
              System.out.println("===> Record Checked Out Event");
              System.out.println(evt.getServerName());
         public void recordModified(RecordEvent evt) {
              System.out.println("===> Record Modified Event");
              System.out.println(evt.getServerName());
    And here is the code for the Event Dispatcher:
    public void execute(Repository repository) {
         DataListener listener = new DataListenerImpl();
         try {
              EventDispatcherManager edm = EventDispatcherManager.getInstance();
              EventDispatcher ed = edm.getEventDispatcher(repository.getServer().getName());
              ed.addListener(listener);
              ed.registerDataNotifications(SystemProperties.getUserName(), SystemProperties.getPassword(),
                        repository.getIdentifier(), repository.getLoginRegion());
              ed.registerRepositoryNotifications(SystemProperties.getUserName(), SystemProperties.getPassword(),
                        repository.getIdentifier());
              ed.registerGlobalNotifications();
              while (true) {
                   Thread.yield();
                   try {
                        Thread.sleep(1500);
                   } catch (InterruptedException ex) {
                        System.out.println("Interrupted Exception: " + ex.getMessage());
         } catch (ConnectionException e) {
              e.printStackTrace();
         } catch (CommandException e) {
              e.printStackTrace();
    Has anyone else encountered this message? Could it be related to a TCP configuration on the server? Or is this a bug in the Java API?
    As I mentioned in the forum posting linked to above, I have not encountered this problem with the MDM4J API.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    I resolved it. We are switching over to SP6, Patch 1 and the listener code works fine with this version of the Java API.
    Just one thing to note, though: make sure that you register data notifications through MetadataManager in your initialization code:
    metadataManager.registerDataNotifications(userSessionContext, repositoryPassword);
    For information on the changes to the SP6 Java API, especially with regard to connecting to MDM with the UserSessionContext, please review Richard LeBlanc's [presentation|https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/20073a91-3e8b-2a10-52ae-e1b4a10add1c].

  • Win98 - Unsatisfied Link Error with OCI

    I'm trying to install the JDBC 8.0.5 driver locally. I have "classes111.zip" in my CLASSPATH, and I've put "oci805jdbc.dll" and "oci805jdbc_g.dll" into C:\orawin95\BIN" (which is in my PATH). When I try to connect from Java, I get the following:
    Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: C:\orawin95\BIN\oci805jdbc.dll: One of the library files needed to run this application cannot be found.
    The docs say that this means I'm missing DLL's, but how do I find out which ones???

    Thanks for the response, Deepak. As I said in my previous message, we
    already have /weblogic/lib/aix and the Oracle lib directory in our AIX

    Do you know which files in the Oracle lib directory are actually required,
    so we can check they are there?

    Using Oracle OCI (Type II) driver on HPUX with Oracle 9.2.0.4.
    If when creating a connection pool via the console, using the Oracle OCI (Type

    We do not offer a JDBC driver for Linux in version 5.1. In version 6.0,we
    do offer a type 4 driver for Linux.
    In version 5.1, I suggest trying the platform independent type 4 JDBC driver
    available for free from Oracle. It is supported (as is any JDBC driver)
    with WebLogic Server. To download it:
    Go to http://www.oracle.com and select the "Download" option.
    From the resulting page, use the "Select Utility or Driver" dropdown to
    select Oracle JDBC drivers
    From the resulting page, scroll down a little (since SQLJ stuff appears at
    the top).
    Or, to go directly there:

I have succesfully used the javah utility to generate the header file for my jni native implementation code and have build both the client java code as well as the dll using g++3.0 using Bloodshed Dev C++ (an open source IDE). When I go to execute the java code I get an unsatisfied link error saying my function is not recognized by the jvm. Does anyone have any suggestions on this issue?? I am using Win2k and jdk 1.4.1
    Here is what I've already tried:
    1) Have added the directory where the java class file as well as the dll to my PATH variable, I have even put the dll files in the jdk bin directory
    2) My dll loads three other dll's and calls a function in one of those dll's, I am using the loadLibrary function to load these dll's and am using function pointers to reference the actual function in the dll
    I was wondering if its a problem if I use g++ to build my dll, does the virtual machine assume by default that gcc is used, please let me know.
    Any help is much appreciated
    Thanks

    I've looked through the various postings on this issue and have tried some or all of the suggestions that were made relevant to my problem but I still keep getting this error. As a result I am attaching some code here:

  • Unsatisfied Linker error:J3D

    hello
    I am having problem with my j3d. I have installed it properly but for some functions there is an exception.
    i.e Unsatisfied linker error
    on a function setTransform it gives error and also says that java.lang.loader cannot load that class. Kindly Help me.

    Hi ,
    You may need to link with libCrun.so.1 to get these symbols resolved.
    % nm libCrun.so.1 | grep rethrow
    [214] | 20324| 60|FUNC |GLOB |0 |12 |__1cG__CrunKex_rethrow6F_v_
    [216] | 20696| 276|FUNC |GLOB |0 |12 |__1cG__CrunMex_rethrow_q6F_v_
    Add this to the link line -lCrun and you should be good to go.

  • Standalone OC4J 9.0.4 - Loading Native Libraries - Unsatisfied Link Error

    Hello,
    I incidentally happen to have a similar problem as has been described in several posts in this forum. The problem is that of loading Native libraries in OC4J.
    The scenario is
    1) Environment is Standalone OC4J 9.0.4, Windows 2000, JDK 1.4.2
    2) A Java wrapper loads DLL1 which internally loads DLL2.
    (To be more specific the DLL1 is a SAPSSOEXT.DLL and the DLL2 is SAPSECU.DLL. These are used for establishing SSO with SAP portal)
    The phase-1 of Java wrapper loading DLL1 is achieved by setting either the PATH or the java.library.path variables.
    The phase-2 of DLL1 loading DLL2 is what is failing with an Unsatisfied Link Error.
    Since I am using a standalone version and not a OC4J app-server, the OPMN related configuration for specified PATH variables will not be relevant here. Is there any other place where I can configure these.
    regards
    Shivaram

    A small correction to my observation above.
    The call to load DLL1 via System.loadLibrary() is successful. However when I attempt to call any method on it it fails with UnsatisfiedLinkError.
    Contrary to what was written above the error occured even before DLL1 attempted to load DLL2.
    So why is it that the call to loadLibrary is successful but the call to actual function is failing? (This works flawlessly on the command line)
    Is this a path problem, if so how do I configure it in OC4J standalone. Variables PATH, java.library.path, LD_LIBRARY_PATH none of them seem to have any effect on this.
    I tried debugging using a windows file monitor. The library DLL1 is being read from the correct path and is being opened successfully.
    Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

  • Jni - unsatisfied link errors in packages

    I am trying to run a test Java program that uses JNI in Win2k. I only have two classes, so I am experimenting with putting them in a package. When I do that I get unsatisfied link errors at runtime that I don't get when they are not in a package.
    I don't get exceptions on the loadLibrary call, for some reason, only when I make a call to the native code.
    Any ideas??? Speculations? Do I need to set some sort of path env variable, other than "path" to find the library (like Unix)? I'm new at this windows stuff.
    Thanks in advance ...
    Maggie

    I got it! I needed to put the package name in front of the class name in the C file.

  • Attaching/Detaching libraries with Java API

    Hello,
    In my forms (Forms10g), sometimes, libraries had been attached in lower case although files are in upper case. This causes compilation errors on UNIX systems.
    I'm trying to detach these libraries with Java APIs and then reattach them in upper case.
    But I get an error when I want to save the module.
    Here is my code :
    public class UpperPll {
         public UpperPll (String formName) {
              try
                   FormModule form = FormModule.open("C:/AttachPll/" + formName);
                   System.out.println("Form Name is " + form.getName());
                   JdapiIterator AttachPll = form.getAttachedLibraries();
                   while(AttachPll.hasNext())
                        try
                             JdapiObject jo = (JdapiObject)AttachPll.next();
                             System.out.println(jo.getName());
                             if (jo.getName().toLowerCase().equals(jo.getName()))
                                  AttachedLibrary.find(form,jo.getName().toUpperCase()).detach();
                                  System.out.println(jo.getName().toUpperCase());
                                  new AttachedLibrary(form,jo.getName().toUpperCase());
                        catch (JdapiIllegalStateException jdise)
                             jdise.printStackTrace();
                   form.save("C:/AttachPll/New/" + form.getName() + ".fmb");
                   Jdapi.shutdown();
              catch (JdapiException jde)
                   jde.printStackTrace();
         public static void main (String[] args) {
              try {
                   FileReader r = new FileReader( "C:/AttachPll/listemodule.txt" );
                   BufferedReader br = new BufferedReader( r );
                   try {
                        String module;
                        while ( ( module = br.readLine() ) != null ) {
                             new UpperPll(module);
                   } finally {
                        r.close();

                   fnfe.printStackTrace();

    We do something very simular. We rename everything to lowercase for the same reasons. I've pasted a snippet of the code we're using at the end of this post.
    To get the full source code of our converter have a look at http://www.oratransplant.nl/2005/05/30/custom-built-forms-migration-assistant/#comment-642
    Here is the code snippet:
    while (attachedLibs.hasNext()) {
    AttachedLibrary attachedLib = (AttachedLibrary)attachedLibs.next();
    String attachedLibLocation = attachedLib.getLibraryLocation();
    out("Found attached library " + attachedLibLocation, logLevel,
    false);
    if (attachedLib.getName().equalsIgnoreCase("obsolete_forms6")) {
    obsoleteAttached = true;
    if (attachedLib.getName().equalsIgnoreCase("webreports")) {
    webReportsAttached = true;
    // converted name of attached lib to lowercase
    if ((!attachedLibLocation.equals(attachedLibLocation.toLowerCase())) &&
    lowerLib) {
    out(attachedLib,
    "Converting filename to lowercase (" + attachedLibLocation.toLowerCase() +
    ")", logLevel + 1, true);
    attachedLibLocation = attachedLibLocation.toLowerCase();
    pllChanged = true;
    // attachedLibLocation = attachedLibLocation.toUpperCase();
    pldText.append(".attach LIBRARY " + attachedLibLocation +
    " END NOCONFIRM\n");
    out("Re-attaching library " + attachedLibLocation, logLevel + 1,
    false);
    }

    Hi,
    unsatisfied link error in mac osx 10.2.3
    can you solve the problem why the error is occuring when i am trying to set port for printer .after seting port in the application then the swiping takes place. as the application is running but unable to communicate to wireless printer through bluetooth. as everything is fine (files like cu.dev and tty.dev are created in mac and i selected that file and saved it.swiping is not done through wireless ). the error i got is
    ERROR LOADING linuxSerialParallel:java.lang.unsatisfiedLinkError: no linux serialparallel in java library.path
    java.lang.unsatisfiedlinkerror:is session active
    please respond immediately regarding this issue
    thanking you,
    babu

    Your problem is definitely not related to 'Community Feedback and Suggestions'. And I cannot see any relationship to Oracle (at least according to the given informations).
