Unusual numbering issue

Hi -
I need to set up document numbering in an unusual way.
I need the pages to autonumber normally but to be able to apply a different master page or style to the occasional page to get the previous page number followed by a line or long dash.
Ex.
1
2
3
3. __________
4
5
5. __________
6
and so on
I've tried making variations on standard building blocks but cannot get this to work.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

Kirsten:
My first thought is that FrameMaker supports the identification of separate autonumbering counters ala "N:" where "N" is a case-sensitive (i.e., "N" does not equal "n") alphabetic character that specifies a unique autonumbering counter.
With that in mind, would it work to (a) create a separate paragraph style for the numbered items that require the long dash, then (b) in that style reference the autonumbering counter in conjunction with "<n=>________________"?
In other words, repeat the value of a given autonumber in a separate paragraph style and suffix that instance with your dash.
Otherwise, I personally know of no other way to inform FrameMaker that a given autonumber requires repeating AND should have a dash suffixed to that repeated number...(?)
Cheers & hope this helps,

  • RoboHELP to PDF Page numbering issue

    HI,
I am experiencing a problem related to page numbers in the pdf generated through the RoboHELP source files. Hereby I am giving some images of the initial pages of the PDF, in which I have clearly explained the issue. I have removed the content and images related to our project. Please let me know, how I can overcome this issue.
NOTE: The page numbering issue was not there earlier.  I have imported two frame maker files. Then I was not able to generate a PDF. That particular FM file had a table. Read in the Adobe forum that some type of tables may affect the generation of PDF. Hence, I have deleted the FM files. Since then I am facing the page numbering issue.
Here are the images with my explanation of the issue:
The following is an image of the pdf. This is actually the fourth page of the pdf, but it is numbered as xiv.
The next pae is numbered as xv. Again the numbering reverted back to xiv as shown in the following iamge.
Immeditely after the TOC, the 1st page is numbered as 115.
Again every 1st page of a chapter is starting as page number 115
The 2nd page of every chapter is numbered as 126.
The 3rd page of every chapter is numbered as 125.
The fourth page again numbered as 126 followed by 125, which is continuing till end of the chapter.
Please let me know how this issue can be solved.

I am not sure what is causing this but can suggest a workaround. Instead of publishing direct to PDF, create a Word document only. That may have page numbering issues but there you should be able to correct them. Then publish your PDF from Word.

  • Missing Purchase Order - Numbering Issue

    Hello,
We have entered a PO which has been printed. However if the PO number is viewed it reflects a different PO. Does SAP then reuse the number should another PO be created before. Surely it would keep the allocated number available unless the PO was discarded?
I have tried to run a restore numbering file but this does not resolve the issue, the PO sent to the supplier does not seem to exist. As we now have a virtual PO in that the same number has now been allocated to a different PO, we're not sure how to deal with this as the print copy has been given to the supplier. Surely this should not occur in SAP?
If one user had captured the PO where the number 879 had been allocated and had the form open although not added, and another user raised a PO, SAP should not have assigned the 879 number to another user as data had been captured by the first user against that number?
    Regards,
    Juan

    Hi Juan,
The document number is not assigned to a transaction/document until it is posted (added). You can print off the document after the PO is added, then you will have the correct PO number on the document.
If the user needs to make changes after the PO is added, they may still do so as long as it has an Open status and hasn't been partially copied to a GRPO or invoice.

  • Acrobat Standard Markup numbering issue

    Hi,
I am using Adobe Acrobat Standard 9.4.5 and am having issues with the markup function.
Whenever I add a comment or mark-up, I get a small sequential number next to it (and sometimes obscuring the text as well).
It is also in the printout.
Any way I can turn the display off?

    Thanks for the reply.
I tried your suggestion but no luck.
I am uploading a screen print for your information.
You can see the small numbers to the top left of each mark-up.
Anything you can do to help is much appreciated.

  • Page numbering issue on export to PDF

I am using the Crystal Reports for Eclipse to export a report as a PDF. The report contains a grouping which has "reset page number after" set to true. The group name field is not displayed on the report. The problem that I am encountering is that the page number is not being reset. If I export the same report using Crystal Reports 2008, the page numbers are reset correctly. Also, if I display the group name field on the report, the page number also resets correctly when exported through CR for Eclipse. This issue did not occur when using the .jar files from Business Objects 11, it only started when we replaced the .jar files with CR for Eclipse. Is this an issue with CR for Eclipse or is there something I need to change in the report for this new version?

Thank you. We have been able to work around the problem by displaying the group fileld on the report, but setting the font color to white so it cannot be seen by the end user.

  • How to get the serial Numbers issued for an STO

    Hi,
I created my own STO and mapped a serialised material for the same using transaction. I increased the stock by issuing serial numbers. The /SYCLO/MM_DOPURCHASEORDER_GET BAPI returns the PO header, item and longtext details. I want the serial numbers which are issued to the STO and the list of serial numbers for which the receipts has been done.
I want to know how to get the serial numbers which are issued to the STO throught the standard function module. I want only the issued serial numbers not the one for which the receipts has been done.
I tried using the standard BAPI, "BAPI_PO_GETDETAIL1" to get the serial number collection. But the FM is not returning the issued serial number as well as the list of serial numbers for which the receipts has been done. It is returning only the PO history in which the list of document number are present.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Mohan.

    Hi,
Using the transaction "MB1C" and movement type "561", I filled the required details such as Material Number, Quantity, Storage Location and Batch. After filling all these details, when I press enter, it will ask for me to enter the serial numbers equal to the quantity specified. I entered the serial numbers by selecting the available serial numbers for that particular material by pressing F4 help.
Please let me know if you need any more inputs in this regards.
    Thanks,
    Mohan.

  • UDO Numbering issue

    Good day,
I have an add-on that uses a UDO. When I click OK I don't set any code on the numbering of the UDO as it increases itself. Now I get an error saying "To Generate this document first define numbering in the administration module". It worked and stopped working after months. Then we upgraded to a newer version and it worked for a while and then stopped working by itself again.
Please explain to me step by step how to fix this. We have logged a query with SAP, but they say:
Unfortunately, as this is a 3rd party add-on, we are unfamiliar of how
the program or code works with the standard SAP Business One. This is
currently beyond the scope of support we provide. We suggest that you
contact the 3rd party reseller for assistance in this issue.
    Where/How does one fix this?
    Thanks,
    Adele

    Adele,
The Document Numbering Setup window is under
Administration >> System Initialization >> Document Numbering
Please check to see if the Document Numbering for this UDO object is set correctly here. Also is this an Add On you  created or someone else?

  • 2 NUMBERS issues i need help with

    1. is there a way to "lock" certain colums in a spreadsheet? for example, i have a spreadsheet where column A is the product name, columns B thru M are wholesale prices that have to be input and Columns N thru Y the numbers are calculated and populated into the cells, but if i accidentally happen to click on a cell in that area, it can pop up the formula and then if you accidentally click on another cell, it adds that cell name to the formula.. or if you click it you can "pick up" the cell and move it to another location.. just wondering if there is a way to lock that section where the formula can't be changed or cells accidentally moved...
    2. on this same spreadsheet... i'm wondering if there is a way to set like a "master" formula or formulas... and have the formula in the cells be kind of like clones of the master formula... i have the formula set to add a percent to the wholesale price, to get the retail price, but if want to change that percentage, right now i would have to go into every cell for every product and every size and change the percentage... and there are 12 price variations for each product.. times over 3,500 products.. you see where i'm going here.. it would be almost impossible to change all those percentages in each cell every time i needed to change the markup percentage... surely there is a way to make this happen, i just haven't been able to figure it out.. i'm thinking i may need to have a few master formulas for different brands or maybe i could just separate each brand of product into their own sheet and just have 1 master formula per sheet..
    hopefully that all makes sense..
thanks for any help you provide..
    gary

thanks t quinn for your help.. i was able to get the percentage thing fixed...
i do have two more questions if you don't mind....
1.when i am typing in the formula, why does the formula take on the column name and product name (row) fields instead of just keeping the column letter and row number i typed in.. for example, i typed in B3 x $B$1 + B3 and when i hit the check mark to save it, it changes the formula to
wholesalecostblueshoes x $B$1 + wholesalecostblueshoes (where wholesale cost is the Column and blue shoes is the product name in that row.. i mean the formula still works, but it's kind of an annoying housekeeping issue... not all the boxes with the formula in them change to this, some retain the Column letter and row number.. but some switch to what the name of the column and row are...
    2. i added a check mark column so that when i am working on updating the prices, i can click the check box to remember that that row has been updated... now, the next time i need to update the prices, all the checks are checked.. what i want to know is, is there a way to have a separate checkbox like up by the MARKUP PERCENT box that i can click to UNCHECK all the boxes... you know so i don't have to manually click on every checkbox to uncheck them... kind of like a "check all" "uncheck all" kind of thing...
    thanks,
    gary

  • FM 9 TOC numbering issue

The numbers in my TOC are off ("behind") by 1, relative to the actual document. Example: The TOC link says an item is on page 10, but it is actually on page 11 in the actual document.
I have tried updating the book, even generating a new TOC and still have this issue.
Any ideas how to fix this? Thanks.

    asking,
Each paragraph should be associated with a paragraph style, also called a paragraph tag. For example, the title of each module might be tagged with a paragraph style named Module Title. When you create a standard TOC, you specify which paragraphs you want listed in the TOC. You do this by selecting the appropriate paragraph tags from a list. See the FrameMaker User Manual for the details.
When you create the TOC the first time, FrameMaker creates a paragraph on the TOC reference page for each paragraph style (tag) you specify for the TOC. FrameMaker also creates another paragraph tag with the same name as the paragraph style but with TOC appended to the end of the name. If you want, you can then edit each line on the TOC reference page to get the format you want for the corresponding entries on the TOC. Again, see the user manual for details.
The above is the way I and probably most other writers create TOCs.
I have heard there is another way, which might be the way the original writer used in your case. I have never used this method, so I may be guessing a little on how it is done. But it might be a clue to your problem.
FrameMaker also allows you to create a list of markers, and you can choose which markers to list, even your custom markers. Like an index marker, a custom marker has text in it, but the text is visible only in the marker dialog/pod, again like an index marker. So, when you create a list of markers (and you can chose which markers to list), the list gets its entries NOT from the content in a paragraph but from the content in the markers.
So, I am guessing the original writer created a custom marker, say called toc. The writer then placed a toc marker either at the beginning of the paragraph with the module title or possibly in a blank paragraph just before the title paragraph. The writer then copied the title and placed it in the marker text. (Aside, instead one can set the marker text to the building block <$paratext>, and the list will display the text of the paragraph containing the marker; BUT the marker has to be in the paragraph with the module title.) Then when the list of toc markers is generated, the list displays the content that is stored in the toc markers, not the content in the module title paragraphs.
So, if the original writer used this method, the toc marker for the module might be on the previous page and not with the module title itself.
To check this, turn on text symbols (select View > Text Symbols). Put your cursor at the beginning of the document. Open the Marker dialog/pod (select Special > Marker). In the find dialog, select Find > Any Marker. Then click Find. At each marker found, view the contents of the marker text in the Marker dialog/pod. You may find the situation I laid out above.
I hope this information helps to find your problem,
    Van

  • Numbering issue

I am having an issue with numbers restarting in the middle of
a list of numbered steps when I have a paragraph or figure in the
middle of steps. Here's an example of what's happening.
    1. My first step numbers correctly.
    2. My second step numbers correctly.
A paragraph or figure and caption is added to step two to
    provide additional information.
    1. My third step restarts numbering at one.
My initial reaction was to go to the Bullets and Numbering
window and clear the Restart Numbering check box. But, this does
not work. The number stays at 1 and when I go back into the Bullets
and Numbering window, the Restart Numbering check box is selected.
I've found that I can force it to restart numbering with 3,
but that is not an acceptable workaround considering the number of
instructions we have where there are figures and captions for each
    step.
Has anyone else had this issue? Is there a workaround that is
automated and doesn't require me to manually force steps to number
    correctly.
Any wisdom would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi all
If you know beforehand that you will want perhaps a bulleted
list nested inside an ordered list, you can accomplish it easily
    using the following process.
Create your initial list, but don't number it quite yet.
Press Enter after the step where you want the bulleted text
to begin, then add the lines that will be bulleted.
Select part of the beginning line and part of the last, then
apply numbering. At this point, everything is numbered, but don't
    sweat that.
Now select the section that should be bulleted and click Edit
    > Move > Right. (Or click the Increase Indent icon on the
toolbar) The numbering should reset and you should have a numbered
    list inside a numbered list.
Now change the inner list to a bulleted list.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Footnote numbering issue

    Hi All,
Having an issue I can't seem to figure out. I am trying to lay up a document and when I insert the first footnote, all works well and good, as long as I am referencing things on the same page. As soon as I move on to a second page with footnotes, the numbers restart themselves.
So on page one, I have footnotes 1,2,. In the footnotes textbox, they are properly referenced as 1, 2. On page two, I have footnotes 3 and 4. When I "insert footnote", the textbox at the bottom restarts at 1, giving me footnotes 1 and 2 instead of 3 and 4.
In the footnote options, "Restart Numbers Every" is NOT selected. I tried everything, but to no avail.
I am pretty new with inDesign, so any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

Assuming this is the same problem as in

  • Need help with an unusual keyboard issue

Weird issue. On my 13 in. MacBook (not Pro), sometimes my L, O, and 9 keys will stop working, until I press one of them in hard enough to register; that fixes the problem. But it intermittently returns.
Anyone have any experience with this? Advice?
