Unusual Wirelss behaviours...

Hi,
I recently traded a mate my Powerbook G4 for his Mac Pro G4, and as it had no wireless capabilities, I bought a PCI wireless card.
Sumvision Network card SVW322P 300Mbps

I was able to obtain OSX 10.5 compatible drivers, and the included utility allows me to connect to my wireless router (BT Home Hub), however; when I go to configure it using Network, it automatically assigns an IP which is outside the range of my router, and hence I cannot connect to the net.
I know the wireless card is working as I have a local BT hotspot, which it can connect and using the DHCP, obtain an address to allow me to surf, however; for whatever reason, it will not obtain a suitable IP from my router.
My old Powerbook G4 used to exhibit similar behaviours and I found I had to trash the InternetConfig.Pref and System.Pref before it would re-connect.
Could it be a case of the Wireless card and my router not being compatible?
Is there anything else I should do after trashing the prefs? I am relatively au fait with my Mac, but can never remember the key combination to do the 'three bong reset'...
I am able to log on to the router using the included software, and then when I go into Network is appears as a 'Wireless' Connection.
Any thoughts or comments would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Grant,
It was tricky to find, but I did find a set of Mac OSX drivers, some were included on the CD, but I was able to find a later release for OS X 10.5.
The utility seems to manage the connection, however; when I connected to the local hot spot, I noticed an IP assigned in Network and I was able to surf.
So it's just odd that I cannot connect to my router in the same way.
I will check for MAC filtering on the router, but I am pretty sure this is not set up.
I will also try removing the encryption just to see what happens.
It's a weird one, eh?
I have another issue with a USB 2.0 PCI card I bought, but I suspect that's down to drivers. I downloaded some from the manufacturer's site, but I am not convinced they will work.
On that front, that card was only £4 so it's not a massive loss.

Unusual sequence behaviour

Hi,
I am having a hard time trying to figure out why I am unable to retrieve the size of a sequence but can still loop through that sequence and print out its contents.
My code is as follows. I have 2 separate class files not included here; the MathQuestion and MathDrill classes. When i call numbers.size() in the for loop, it always comes back as zero, but when i hard code the upper range, i am able to print the numbers onto my panel. Can someone please tell me what I am doing wrong?

Thanks for the reply. I have changed my code a bit after following the advice but my "for" loop is still coming up with no numbers even though my println statement has a size greater than 1. HP Officejet Pro 8500 A909a won't let computer boot up

I have an Officejet Pro 8500 A909a series connected to my HP computer running Windows XP Home. It was
working perfectly. Now it won't let the computer boot while it's connected to the computer. I can unplug the
USB cable from the computer and it boots fine. I can then plug the USB back in and the printer prints fine. I
ruled out bad USB ports as everything else USB works fine in the same ports. I put a brand new cable on and
had same results. I rebooted the printer and computer, with same results. I uninstalled the printer and drivers and
reintsalled with same results. Computer freezes at the screen where it askes you to use the up and down arrows
to select OS or wait for it to count down to 0. With printer unplugged it boots perfectly. This just started about
4 days ago. New printer. HP Support was at a loss when I did the live chat. Can anyone help?

The problem seems to lie in the installer, which has an unusual bad behaviour. The installer puts the 8500 a909a in the list of USB bootable devices. (Not good!!!)
When the printer is disconnected it isn't a problem. When the printer is connected the computer tries to boot from the printer and the computer hangs.
When I found the printer in the BIOS list of USB bootable devices I DISABLED that item in that list. Then it booted normally.
But now the BIOS takes an extra 30 seconds or so but boot up seems to be preceeding normally.
The guys on the CHAT and PHONE lines didn't even imagine the installer might be a problem so their advice was useless. They were blaming the computer. More importanly, they didn't have a way to escalate the problem. They had no capacity to respond in a flexible manner. It was like dealing with unhelpful staff in the county clerk's office.

When I use Firefox the default size is 100%. When I use Pages, also runs good (100%). Only in Safari, and Mail too, appears 150% as the default size.
How can I change it to 100% in both?

How do I invert the horizontal trackpad scrolling in Dreamweaver CC code window (Mac)?

Having recently installed CC I'm enjoying all the apps so far...although Dreamweaver (which I use quite a lot) is showing unusual scrolling behaviour.
In my previous version of Creative Suite, for all apps I have a two-handed approach where I use the trackpad to navigate around the document with two fingers, while using a mouse to select the code/element etc.
I have already turned off the default 'natural' vertical scroll because it feels more intuitive to me (i.e. if I want to scroll down the page, I pull down with two fingers).
However, with this new version of Dreamweaver, it breaks convention by having reversed the left-right scroll direction, which has thrown me because it is the only app so far that goes against the norm. Previously if I wanted to see code off the right hand side of the window, I would swipe right, but now I have to swipe left. I had a look at the settings and couldn't see a way of changing this.
Can anyone help?

[iPhone] Targetting iPod Touch

Is there any obvious reason why a simple iPhone app that doesn't use any of the iPhone-specific features doesn't work on the iPod Touch?
My app was built using the iPhone SDK (v 9m2199a) for iPhone OS 2.0, utilizing standard UIKit with CFSockStream for making TCP connections. It saves some data using NSKeyedUnarchiver. Other than that, there is no camera, gps, accelerometer or any device-specific feature access.
I tested it against my iPhone and it works fine, then submitted to the app store as being both iPhone and iPod Touch compatible. Since I don't actually own an iPod Touch, that was just a guess and a mistake on my part. A reviewer said that it doesn't work on the iPod Touch, so I'm investigating to see if there is anything that anyone might know. Googling didn't yield any conclusive results.
Any pointers or suggestions would be appreciated.

I see no obvious reason why this should be the case. Also, I previously owned an iPod only an also assumed that it will work on the iPhone as well and so it did.
My guess would be that there is some sort of trouble with the device itself. I had several users complain about the app crashing. I adviced them to
a) try to restart there iPod/iPhone. This helped in most cases!
b) delete the app and redownload it with the same account as used to buy the app. this will reinstall the app without extra costs to the user. this has helped in all other cases with unusual app-behaviour so far.
May be this will help in your case as well.

How do I stop automatically switching to calendar when a new invitation arrives?

In Mac OS Mountain Lion, whenever I receive an invitation via email, the OS automatically switches to Calendar once Mail has passed it over. This means that when I'm typing a note, my Mac suddenly switches to Calendar without any warning. This is incredibly annoying.
I have already gone into each of my calendars and ticked the "Ignore Alerts" option - but the problem still remains. I am reluctant to deselect the option in Mail to pass invitations to Calendar automatically, because then I'd miss lots of appointments.
Is there anything else I can do to stop this behaviour?

Hmm. OK. You have to appreciate I'm hypothesizing here. I don't use iCal and I'm not entirely sure what that switch does, but if you're game for a bit of (safe) experimenting, read on.
What I'd like to know is whether reversing that switch gets you the desired behaviour. If it doesn't, we'll just switch it straight back.
1. The switch is only a preference setting and can't cause any harm to your data or machine. Even so, it's always a good idea to backup your system before you mess with anything in case of unpredictable results, so please do that before trying any of the following.
2. Once you've backed up, copy and paste the following into Terminal:
defaults write com.apple.iCal NSDontMakeMainWindowKey YES
Press 'return' on your keyboard.
3. Restart the mac (you MUST do this).
4. Arrange (or wait) for someone to send you an iCal invitation or event and see what happens. If the same behaviour occurs OR you notice any unusual/undesirable behaviour of iCal in the meantime, put the preference back to the default by using the same command as above, but replacing the 'YES' with 'NO' and then restart the mac again.
Obviously, on the other hand, if it solves the problem, leave the preference as it is and let us all know so we can pass it on to others.

That sounds to me like you might have some malware that is hijacking your browser. What virus scanner are you using? Please run a full scan.
I would also recommend running a full scan with:
* Malwarebytes Anti Malware
* Spybot S&D
Let me know if that comes up with anything. Have you noticed any other unusual browser behaviour? e.g. change of homepage, unfamiliar toolbar, change of default search engine etc

OIM 11g unusual behaviour

i am using oracle identity manager 11g (11.1.1.3) + weblogic 10.3.3 + soa suite 11.1.1.3 + sun jdk 160_18.
I have installed the DBAT connector, and i would like to know if the following is a normal behaviour.
1) search wizards in popups close themselves on search, especially the "manage connectors", "add provisioned resource" in user tab and the "manage resources" ones, with a pack of exceptions in the logs. I have to open them again and repeat the search in order to get the results.
2) having created a gtc connector, i am unable to modifiy mappings, field properties (say making a field required) and stuff like that in the graphical provisioning flow screen. Most of the time i get "system error" in the popups and i have to open them again to successfully modify the options i want.

Manual bank statement processing unusual behaviour

Dear All,
I was trying to do Manual bank statement processing using FF67. It was working fine.
Then I again tried, but this time, the status is in green. The document is not posted, it dosent appear in FBL3N bank account and document number is not generated. Document number field has " * " instead of new document number.
Also the account balance is updated with some arbitrary number. This happened thrice.
Today morning, it worked fine, creating a posted doment and updating the balance correctly.
I am wondering what has happened three times in between, that the system behaved in an unusual manner, displaying status in green.
It would be appreciable if anybody can through some light.

Pl.s refer to question 3 of note 549277.
'the bank statements show up as "posted",but never hits the ledger account'. The logic is that the system assumes that the postings in batch input session will eventually be made successfully, it then indicates that the line items of the account statement are posted. For the actual posting to be done you'll need to process the batch input session which is currently showing 'New'.

Unusual behaviours since daisy chaining a new external hd

my mac has worked flawlessly since i got it over 3 & 1/2 years ago.
I added a new external hd by daisy chain fire wire last week & suddenly
odd behaviours are occuring for the first time ever all in the space of a week.
1. Frozen mouse - unable to use the pointer - fixed by un/re pluging mouse.
2. corrupted finder icons one or two - fixed by re-starting.
3. external hd icon unmounting when i do an action in a running app,
eg: turned a page in acrobat reader - fixed by restarting external hd.
4. put to sleep manually - black screen but computor & external hds still
'not asleep' - couldnt get the desk top screen to appear - fixed by re
booting with external side button.
A sense of things coming abit undone !
I want to trouble shoot this before it gets out of hand & i want to avoid causing any damage to my internal hardware.
Could anyone provide me with some kind of diagnosis & insight ?

okay - in response to posts so far......
1. i havent used it yet with fcp
2. it is running off its own power supply, not off the fire wire cable.
3. i am not using any hub - its daisyed into the first external hd which is then
linked to the emac by fire wire. The chain is firewire 400 cable in all
instances.
Both external hds have their own seperate power supply .
JMVP WROTE:

So what you're suggesting is daisychaining par-se is a no no.
Both in the case of the device powered via the firewire
cable AND if it's independantly powered.
Does this mean DAISY = DANGER ?
The verdict so far is that i should abandon daisy chains and switch to fire wire hubs....or direct seperate inputs into the emac.........
Aside from a debate about the pros & cons of the Daisy.........
i'm open to other trouble shooting lines of thought to my situation.

Strange/unusual behaviour of New-ish(Old white style) Macbook

I got my Macbook the same week the new ones came out, so its not very old.
Since day 1, sometimes when i turn it on the green light from the built in camera comes on, and wont go off until shut down. This then makes photobooth and any application that needs the camera unusable, until i restart.
Also recently, its started taking ages to start up. I only have the factor 1GB installed, but before it was nippy.
Then, one day it wouldn't start at all. It just stayed on the blue screen and that was it. So i booted from disc and archived and installed leopard, and it starts up but its still very slow.
I've got Leopard Onyx so i delete caches and unused files regurlarly and i even ran an anti virus to see if anything was going on, but nothing.
Its 4 months old, and just frustrating to wait 3-4mins for it to start up properly. It used to be on 30 seconds or so, so any advice is great.
Its the 2.1Ghz, intel core 2 duo, 1GB RAM, 120G HDD.

How much of that hard drive is free? OS X needs at least 10% of the hard drive open at all times in order to function at its best. Have you used Disk Utility to repair permissions? If you open up Activity Monitor (Applications>Utilities) and look at All Processes, is any one program using a lot of CPU/RAM?
Also you don't need to shutdown your MacBook unless you've installed an update requiring it--or if it's being unusually difficult. Sleep mode consumes very little power and you won't have to wait for the machine to boot!

5800 unusual behaviour when switching off

Recently I have noticed my 5800 appearing to cycle through different apps when I switch it off. For example, when I press the power button and select switch off it goes to the Vodafone welcome screen as normal but then it jumps back to the main home screen followed by a rapid cycle through contacts, messaging, calendar and even the alarm screen where it will stay for about 5 seconds and then switch itself off as normal.
More recently, and more of a concern was the phone attempting to connect to the internet without me wanting it to. I followed instructions on here about setting the packet data connection to "when needed" but this made no difference. So then I decided to reformat the software as suggested on here also. So I did the *#7370# trick and reformatted the software. This seems to have cured the connecting to the internet problem but the switch off problem still persists.
I should add that my Firmware version was up-to-date at version 21.0.025 according to PC Suite.
Any ideas what's up?

i dont know if it is unusual, but my n97 actually does the same thing. itsjust shutting down the apps as it is shutting down the phone. i would not be too alarmed with this issue if i were you.

Is this expected behaviour, or a bug in self-referential integrity checks, or in
all foreign keys? The reason this came about in our application is because FORMS attempts to update every column on a block regardless of whether all values in the block have changed. This includes the primary key columns.
We have worked around this issue for now by setting the 'update changed columns only' property on blocks in the forms.

No. All you are doing there is stating your intention of later updating the selected locked rows.
You may not even update any rows, if the program logic decides that way. Your actual update is the only case where the validation of foreign key will be applied. It cannot be done at the time of doing FOR UPDATE select, since the database does not know what new value is going to be when you do update so it is not possible to check.
Also, note that yoru statement did NOT fail. It was just rying to validate your foreign key, and in that process wants to make sure no one else makes the changes. The statement was waiting for resource to be free, it DID NOT FAIL (no error was raised).

My drive is screwed up...very unusual behaviour.

So I had a superdrive die in my powerbook before, where it was unable to burn, etc.
I'm having the same happen in my macbook pro now, but I'm getting more odd behaviour. When I put a blank cd in the drive (straight out of the package) it goes to iTunes and tells me it's the album "In Silico" by Pendulum which I had burned a while ago. When you click a song to play it, it just skips through them all rapidly. The cd shows audio files in finder as well, even though the cd is blank. What's going on?

first, i would uncheck the ¨automatically retrieve CD track names from internet¨ in iTunes.
(iTunes/Preferences/Advanced/Importing/).
the purpose is to avoid iTunes give a name to your blank cd.
Create a Playlist, then use right button or press control+click on that playlist and select "burn playlist to Cd" , THEN insert the CD when asked...
