Update: Mr. Tortoise gets a truck

I know I can tell long stories. I'll try to keep this short.  Q: What resources would you use to find out the trade in value of a 2015 car?  Car is too new to show on kbb. Only the base model is shown, but no detail on various models. I even emailed them and they said not enough data (or something like that). Someone posted a link somewhere here about black-something. I got a value there.  DH is frustrated with his several month old car for a couple reasons so we started to see how difficult it would be to get out of it into something new. He's looked at a couple places and the offer for his car has swung $4k. The first one was lower than what we thought (partially due to an error on my part reading the aforementioned site), but the next one was $4k lower than that. Really ridiculously low. I've suggested going to Car Max a couple times. We had good luck getting a price from them once before and then using that price as a bargaining chip and the dealer matched it. DH said it was a horrible experience. I don't remember it being bad, but it was his car, so that could change the perspective on the situation I suppose. I think it's Starting Over that said it's what he (or she) has used in the past or another place like it.  I'd love to take DH's car there just to see what they'd offer, but if it's near the lower value, it'd be quite the blow and I'd rather not endure that (I'd rather he not endure that). If it's near the other value we were offered, we might even pay to get out of it (assuming that's possible). We can't go back to the dealer where we were offered that as he's moved on to a totally different make for a new car.

Lots of 'stuff' in the last 24 hours.  We both couldn't relax until we got this vehicle situation straightened out. With a $4k swing in value between two dealers, I finally convinced him to go to Car Max and see what they say. It was VERY interesting.  They offered exactly half way between the low and the high offer. But with their excellent, transparent process of showing you how they rated the car, we noticed that it was coming up as a Golf SE not a Golf SEL. We questioned the guy at the desk and he got his supervisor (not sure of her title, but the one who could explain more). We said that that was our problem online too. For us it was hard to check a value because it was so new that KBB only listed S. But when we put it into blackbook we got right around what the highest dealer offered us. She said that our VIN was for an SE, not an SEL. She said she'd had a similar issue with a Ram where it was sold as one particular thing but it was really the lower model with the extras added so it was equivalent. DH was about to go 2 blocks down to VW and give them an earful (easy since he's already not happy with them). I suggested we go home and check paperwork first (only about 4 miles away). The sticker is definitely an SEL. There was another piece of paperwork that listed SEL. The contract just says Golf.   On the other side of the equation, we looked all over Southern California to see if we could find what he wanted. We had zero affinity for either of the dealers we'd visited on Friday, so we didn't feel bad not asking them to locate one. We found one down by the beach that was exactly what he wanted (The only question was whether we should get long or short bed and we could make arguments both ways...this one is short bed so it'll just be more manueverable. There's only a foot difference.) I think we got a decent deal on the truck, given that we know it's the only one in existence within 150 mile radius.  We went down there figuring we wouldn't trade the Golf. We'd either pursue it with VW or just take Carmax up on their offer. We were just ready to be done. We talked to the manager at the dealer and explained the SE/SEL thing. Initially he said he'd match Carmax, but then said if we brought in the sticker etc. showing SEL (we didn't drive the car there) that he'd bump it up nearly to the Audi dealer's offer. Sold.  They were only able to get us 2.99 with GM financing. We've applied to DCU and are pending. We did it just under him and I'm thinking DTI could be an issue with just him. I also sent a message through the app system that wife could be added if necessary to get best rate. Dealer was using EX Auto V2 (pretty sure that's what it said). It was probably what the local CU used too, it was a couple points lower but that could be due to the previous inquiry. It would make more sense than Mortgage score.  Cap One was listed on their application. I asked if she'd gotten a rate from them. She said we got the same rate from them but they weren't willing to extend us enough credit, but she said it looked like she could 'recon' the amount and rate with them Monday if I want (my word, not hers). I said I will be checking with another CU and I'll let her know Monday. We're taking the Golf in and finishing the deal on Tuesday. Fingers crossed that we get best rate from DCU. If not, we'll survive.  The last spur of the moment car purchase was an expensive quick decision. Financially, definitely a mistake. But if he hadn't have gotten that car, I wouldn't have gotten my car (which I love) and he wouldn't have gotten the truck. Overall, I think it positions us well for years to come, so it was nice to get it all taken care of (nearly) all at once.  Since we'll be upside down from the start, I think we should get GAP (never have on a loan in the past). That's another plus for DCU. Theirs is $295, GM is $995. I know this is a topic with strong feelings on both sides, so I hesitate to put it here, but in case anyone has knowledge re: GM and this...We'll also probably look into getting the GM extended warranty, but not now. I'm a little uncomfortable getting a car in it's first model year (and an American car with lots of electronics). I've confirmed we can get it later and shop different dealers for it. It's my understanding that if we get it within the by 12k or 15k miles, it's still the cheapest it can be. You can get it up through the time the factory warranty ends, but it gets more expensive as you near the end of that. You can do 0% financing for up to two years through Ally. I hope we wouldn't need to, but that sounds preferable to financing it in now for the life of the loan. And the finance mgr of course quoted us a ridiculous figure on it.

iTunes will not update.  I get an error message saying that it cannot verify signature and it will be unable to install.

Yeah me too try going through the apple website in (firefox) and download iTunes there. Currently that's what I'm doing.

  • When I try to update itunes, I get the following:  The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.  Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package iTunes64.msi in the box..

When I try to update itunes, I get the following:  The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.  Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package iTunes64.msi in the box below.
This leads me to another dialog box that says:  The file .......is not a valid installation package for the product iTunes.  Try to find the installation package iTunes64.msi in a folder from which you can install iTunes.
That doesn't work either.  What to do?

Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • Creative Cloud Desktop update error A12E1 - getting really tired of this...

So I've bought CS6 a while ago and up until there was the Application Manager used for updates everything was fine.
Since you decided to force me to use Creative Cloud for updates it's became really annoying.
Every time  there is an update for one of my Adobe Products there is also an update for Creative Cloud Desktop. And it seems to be impossible to install it.
It doesn't matter if I try to update the existing Installation or Download fresh Setup-Files. It doesn't work.
If I try to update, it's initialised, downloaded and then it throws Error-Code A12E1.
If I try to install a freshly downloaded Setup-File of CC Desktop it's the same, just with Error-Code 50.
So here is what I've tried already:
    Updating with disabled Security Suite
    Try again in SafeBoot
Uninstall CC Desktop an reinstall a fresh Download
Installing freshly downloaded files with disabled Security Suite
    Try this again in SafeBoot
Download the CC Cleaner tools to get rid of the old Installation before I can install it again, which then does the trick.
    As I said EVERY TIME.
What is supposed to be a 5 Minute update in background gets to be an hour of rebooting, uninstalling, cleaning an reinstalling.
    I'm running a 64Bit Windows 8.1 Pro.
If anyone knows how to fix this, please give me a hint. I'm all out of Ideas.
    *EDIT*
I've postet this after I got the initial Error-Message, thinking that using the Cleaner Tool would help this time again. But there I was wrong! Very Wrong!
I'm seriously disappointed when I think about how much money I've spend on this Software...
After Using the Cleaner Tool (which completed without errors) I couldn't install CC Desktop again, because it was just throwing Error-Code 50 again and again.
All attempts to fix this were unsuccessful. Errorlogs were NOT created. The last Error-Log I could find was from the last update back in march.
After a while of google search I found an old post from November from someone with similar problems.
    Solution:
    Uninstalling CC Desktop
    running the cleaner tool
    reboot
    download CC Desktop setup files
set the compatibility to Windows XP Service Pack 3
try to install with administrative rights, wait for Error-Message that something is missing and you have to redownload the setup-files
undo the compatibility-settings and run the Setup with administrative rights again
    Now it worked.
I'm seriously interested in what kind of update this is, that it is resolved by setting the compatibility to Windows XP SP3...
Especialliy, since Creative Cloud was promised to make my whole workflow "joined" and therefore easier.

have reformatted my Imac using original discs (installed leopard (10.5)) tried to do the software update but it cant download the itunes update and when it gets to the configure update screen after restart for main update, it just gets stuck. HELP!
The configure bar gets about an 1/8 full and then just does nothing. I think its lists the update as combo update? cant remember with out checking.
I have tried to do the disk verify and repair but this has made no difference.
Please let me know what i need to do, I have reformatted the mac just to start over as was clogged with a lot of useless data, I had installed lion (10.7) from the app store previously and now cant seem to find a way to re install lion. I hope I dont need to pay for it again?

If you erased your hard drive, you'll need to reinstll OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard to access the App store. You won't have to pay for OS X 10.7 Lion again. Did you try booting to the recovery partition by holding the command and r keys down? If that's still there, you can reinstall OS X 10.7 from there.
If you're looking to install the current iTunes, you need OS X 10.6.8 at a minimum.
If you're still trying to update OS X 10.5 Leopard, you can download the combo update from here.  Download, use Disk Utility to repair permissions, apply the update, then repair permissions again. That will take you to OS X 10.5.8.

  • My iPad 2 will not allow me to update my apps. When I hit the update button I get a spinning circle but then it times out and doesn't update. Please help.

My iPad 2 will not allow me to update my apps. When I hit the update button I get a spinning circle but then it times out and doesn't update. In the past when I have updated successfully, the spinning circle would show me an indicator of time left on the update. I no longer have this Indicator. The circle just spins and times out and nothing happens. I've reset the iPad in the settings menu, reset the router, logged in and out of Apple id, powered ithe iPad off and on, and tried a couple other "fixes" that I've read online. So far no luck. AAny help would be greatly appreciated. Much thanks!

How much free space do you have? If it is low, installers may not be able to run properly.

Now everytime I try to finish the update process I get a message " Apple ID couldn't be created because of a server error. I already have an apple ID I am just trying to finish the update so I can use my ipod touch and can not figure out why I keep getting held back at this message

So I found out with alittle research that instead of entering all that info on my ipod, security questions, birthday, ect that it was much easier to just go to http://appleid.apple.com and place all that info there and save it than try the process on my ipod and it finished the update.

since last update (today) I get invalid Apple ID password when trying to use back to my MAC in Icloud app on my MAC, password works on all my other devices. GLITCH ?

Try going to the Apple ID page on your web browser
    http://www.apple.com/support/appleid/
and try to either retrieve or reset your password
(obviously you had to be able to successfully log in to be able to post here)
I was finally able to log in through my system preferences after about three or four hours. I ran a disk utility to repair permissions and restarted and it seemed to work ok.

    any advice?

3GB for a movie? That's almost equivalent to an original DVD.
Have you checked in the Recently Added playlist?
I think this is possibly linear.  Select 'normal' in HB, iTunes accepts it; select 'high quality' in HB iTunes doesn't.  I can't say why; I don't have any video that anywhere approaches 3GB in size.  If that's how iTunes behaves I don't see you have too many options.  You either select normal and it works, or you select HQ and live with playing the movie outside of iTunes.
I won't ask what movie because any help with illegally ripped copy protected DVDs is strictly prohibited by the Terms of Use so I'm assuming this is a 6 hour video of your puppy playing on the floor.

I researched the advice on the link provided by b noir as well as very similar advice from apple support: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5376. It worked for me (for now).
    Some things of note:
I did all of the things requested by the link I provided
My computer WOULD NOT uninstall Apple Mobile Device Support. I had to manually remove the folder (also as instructed by the url)
I also uninstalled MobileMe. Was a little different than removing the other apps. Follow instructs provided here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2992
    I did not uninstall iCloud
I have to admit it was a bit scary removing all those things. Is important to note that when re-installing Apple, follow steps to do so as Administrator (the right-click thingy and whatnot).
    Hope this helps!
