Hi,
We have oracle 10.1 ,10.2 in some systems and we need to update oracle patch set
could anyone help me whether if I want to change oracle 10.1 to 10.2 will come under upgrade or updating patch set?
if yes what is the procedure about how to update patch in Oracle?Hi,
to go from 10.1 to 10.2 you need to upgrade your database, a patch set will not do it.
Please check the upgrade documentation in the SAP Marketplace:
http://service.sap.com/instguides.
Other thing would be that you want to go from 10.2.0.1 to 10.2.0.2
In this case, you only need to apply the patch set relevant for your Operating system. In this case, follow the note mentioned by Kaushal -
i need to set the following url in my em for database 10.2.0.3.0 and Oracle Enterprise Manager Database Control 10.2.0.3

Oracle field length error after Oracle patch update
Dear All,
We have an ABAP program wherein we are inserting records in an external (non-SAP) Oracle DB
by means of native SQL. On 22/08/2010, we had updated an Oracle patch in the production server.
After the patch was updated, the program has started throwing error:
An SQL error has occurred: ORA-12899: value too
large for column
"CELLAPPS"."AWLTBLMESSAGES"."MESSAGETEXT" (actual:
438, maximum: 350)#ORA-06512: at line 1
The message text variable has only 219 characters. After some observations, i found that all the data is
converted into exactly double the length after this oracle patch update.
Please help.
Thanks.Hello,
Which is your NLS for your SAP and the external databases?
SELECT VALUE FROM V$NLS_PARAMETERS WHERE PARAMETER = 'NLS_CHARACTERSET';
What is your DBCO Conn. Info field?
What is the result if you set the remote connection in DBCO as per SAP note [808505|http://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/808505]?

After applying oracle patch 10.2.0.4 on SUN 10 platform, startsap gives a error code 12. I am able to start the database but the startsap does not work. This is happening for all our systems for which we upgraded the oracle patch. R3trans -d also gives the same error. Trans.log says invalid user/password but we have not changed any password of any oracle user. In fact we are able to login to sqlplus using system and our old password. Any pointers would be higly appreciated.
Regards
GokulSAPUSER table was missing and OPS$SIDADM user was also missing. Now I am able to do sqlplus /@QGR but the problem persists . R3trans -d out is

How to download oracle patch set 10.2.0.5 for Windows server 2008 R2
I need download and install oracle patch set 10.2.0.5 and install for Windows server 2008 R2 (notes 1486772).
But I get message "Download basket request for update has been processed. Unable to add 1 new object(s). The objects are already part of Export and to be processed."
Help me, please!Hi,
Have you looked at this location https://service.sap.com/oracle-download ?
Refer SAP Note 871735 - Current patch set for Oracle 10.2.0 -> Oracle patch set 10.2.0.5
Once you add the Patchset 10.2.0.5 in download basket, you will find the same in Export tab of Download Basket. You will have to get the approval from SAP Export department by raising OSS message with XX-SER-SWFL-EXPORT component. After getting approval for the same from SAP Export dept., then & then only you will able to download it.

How to update oracle jdbc driver to 11.1.0.7.0 JDBC Drivers
HI,
I got a jdbc exception *" java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException "*.
I have known that it is a Oracle JDBC bug and Oracle BUG number is BUG-6396242.
The problem is too many rows per database transaction and it is fixed at version 11.1.0.7 Oracle JDBC Drivers.
Here is the 11.1.0.7 Oracle JDBC Driver Readme.
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/enterprise-edition/111070-readme-083278.html
and the download
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/enterprise-edition/jdbc-111060-084321.html
My question is :
*1.How to update oracle jdbc drivers with those downloads ?*
(ps. I have replaced ojdbc5_g.jar, ojdbc5.jar, ojdbc6_g.jar, ojdbc6_g.jar in $ORACLE/jdbc, but it did'nt work. )
*2.My Oracle version is 11.1.0.6.0, will it be OK if only update the JDBC driver?*
*3.Do I need to update the jdbc driver where my program runs on the client side ?*
Thanks for answers~ :)Upgrade your database version to 11.1.0.7.
Installation docs are included with all patches and upgrades. -

Bhanu ChanderHi Bhanu Chandar,
Unfortunately, direct FTP of Oracle patches ended when Metalink was replaced with My Oracle Support last autumn. The only available options for getting patches are:
1) Via My Oracle Support, with your web browser
2) Using a command-line utility such as wget, as described in the link Srini provided
Srini, thanks for posting the link! :-)

How to determine how long an Oracle patch will take to complete?
Hello,
Does anybody know of a way as to how to determine how long a certain Oracle patch will take when it is applied?
Regards.Another thing to consider is if the patch does any data conversion/inserts/updates/validation/etc. Running a patch against a small test instance with 100 users and 10,000 invoices may take considerably less time than it does against a production size instance with 22,000+ users and millions of invoices.
We try to test every patch against a production size test instance prior to implementing it into production. -
Oracle patching on Dataguard Environment
Hi,
I have to do oracle patching on my customer system having Dataguard environment.
Can someone please guide me, if i have to run installer on both primary and standby server or not ?
Is someone has done it in past, please share your experience.
Thanks,
KanchanIn Readme they have just mentioned to refer oracle note 278641.1. When i checked that note, it says
1. In the primary disable log shipping to the standby site.
2. Shutdown the standby site and apply interim patchsets to the RDBMS binaries as per the README. This includes Patchset/Patchset Update (PSU)/Critical Patch Update (CPU). You will not be able to and do not need to run the scripts (catpatch.sql etc) against the standby rdbms itself.
3. Shutdown the primary site, apply the Patchset/PSU/CPU patch to the RDBMS binaries and patch the RDBMS itself using the instructions in the README (run catpatch/catbundle/catcpu etc).
4. Start the primary site, re-enable log shipping to the standby.
5. At the standby site restart redo apply/managed recovery and the RDBMS changes implemented in the Primary Site through catpatch/catbundle/catcpu will also be applied to the standby.
Information about Bundle patch is clear. But Applying patchset is not clear.
Do we need to run catupgrd.sql script on standby after patchset installtion ? or that will also be shipped through logs ?
and if below command is right for disabling the Log shipping from primary ?
SQL> alter system set log_archive_dest_state_2=defer scope=both sid='*' -

Distinction among terms: Oracle Patch Set, Oracle Patch Bundle, ecc
Hi to all,
a customer asked me to update an Oracle database 10.1.3.0 on Windows 32 platform. THe only patches installed are **5556081** and *5557962*..
I looked for new updated patches and I founded some Oracle Recommended Patches ID 756671.1 and Oracle Patch Bundles ID 1207176.1 for 10.2.3.0.
Honestly I don't know how to proceed in the sense that i don't know if it is better to apply these bundle patches or to go directly to Oracle Patch Set 10.2.4.0 or 10.2.5.0 for a better update.
What is the difference between Oracle Patch Bundle and Oracle Patch Set?? and the difference between Oracle patch Set and Oracle Patch Set Update???
Any help will be well appreciated..I need to do this update asap
Thanks in advance

Pl clarify what you mean by "10.1.3.0", "10.2.3.0", "10.2.4.0" and "10.2.5.0" - there a no such Oracle versions
I believe you mean 10.1.0.3, 10.2.0.3, 10.2.0.4 and 10.2.0.5
If so, all of the above are patch sets on top of the base release (10.1 or 10.2). It is always recommended to update to the latest patch set release.
Pl note that both 10.1 and 10.2 are de-supported - you should be using the latest 11gR2 version.
Patch set updates (PSU) are additional bundled fixes on top of patch sets - see this MOS Doc
