Update rules need to populate a characterisitc

Is there any way to populate Controlling area when i flat file load a cube which has Costcenter in it but not controlling area.It is a compounding characteristic to Costcenter.

controlling area should come for source. if youpractising in Bw, you can assign constant value(assume 1000) in UR.
otherwise, it should come from source i.e. Flat File in your case.

Hello. I am trying to write a routine on an key figure in an update rule. Basically, I am trying to load a custom key figure with either a 1 or a 0.
Here is the pseudocode:

I think you can not put "-" in if command, so code should be like this:

Result = 1.

Attribute or routine first in update rule

Hi
In my update rules if i populate a characteristics from master data (Ex: 0MATL_GRP from 0MATERIAL) and write a routine to populate other keyfigure based on the attribute. Will it work when i execute the infopackage.
My requirement is after populating the 0MATL_GRP only, the key figure should be calculated based on the 0MATL_GRP.

Now if i add 0MAT_GRP in ods and in the update rules; select the update method as "Master Data Attr. of" - 0MATERIAL (0MAT_GRP is an attribute of 0MATERIAL)
And in INCENTIVE keyfigure if i write a routine based on 0MAT_GRP and execute the infopackage, will my requirement be met.
Condition is: After populating the 0MAT_GRP only my kf routine should run.
So will execute infopackage will 0MAT_GRP is an attribute of 0MATERIAL) run <b>first?</b> or routine in kf

Update rule activation......

Hi,
I have added one of the fileds in ODS. This ODS gets data from 6 ODS.
All the update rules got deactivated.
Any reason why?
what we have to do ?
Will all the activation of all the update rules need to get transported again?

Hi,
BW don't know if/how this field should be updated from 1 or several of the 6 ODS'es. Therefore the update rules are inactive and you have to activate them AND updatethe new field if you want or set it to initial if you don't want to update it.
And yes, you should then transport this.

Need to create a transformation based on Update Rules Logic

Hi,
I have an existing complex Update Rule. I need to manually create a Transformation based on this Update Rule logic. The Start Routine of the Update Rule comprises of:
1) All data declarations in the Global Area
2) The local coding area consists of various select statements from various r/3 tables used later for mapping. It also calculates and stores values in the Data Package final internal table for few infoobjects that are not present in the Source object but and are used to populated data in the target.
3) then we have the various one to one individual Infoobject mappings/constants and many individual infoobject routines that pick result from the comm_structure
I am not very clear as to where each of the above coding logic should be put in the transformation coding area...... I can see four main coding areas in the transformation....global area, 2nd Global Area, Method Start_Routine and Method Inverse_Start_Routine........... I think the global data declarations(point 1 above) should be put in the Global declaration area of the start routine. The local area of the update rule logic (point 2 above) that contains select statements should be put in 2nd Global part or should it be put in Method Start_routine????? Point 3 above for individual filed mappings will be done through Rule groups. Also can anyone let me know what is the methos inverse_start_routine used for?????

Point 1 you mentioned should be put under2nd Global declaration part of start routine.
Point 2 should be put under Method Start_routine.
Point 3 as you only mentioned can be done by individual field rule mappings.
Method inverse_start_routine
      This subroutine needs to be implemented only for direct access
      (for better performance) and for the Report/Report Interface
      (drill through)
Not very clear though about Inverse routine. But definetly not being used for the case you mentioned.

This is my scenario.I need to take a project cost report.
There are some projects in cProjects and some projects in R/3 (Project System).
Each project in cProjects is linked with one or more projects in R/3.
They are linked by means of GUID.Now I need to pull out a report from a infocube(Z infocube) which has information both from R/3 and cProjects.I built a Z infocube.
Here comes my problem.
I need to write update rule for the requirement explained below.
For all the projects(in cProjects) I need to find its GUID from the table-DPR_PROJECT . These GUIDs are contained in this table under the field name GUID.
The same GUID numbers I can find it in another table-DPR_OBJLINK under the field PROJECT_GUID. For this PROJECT_GUID numbers, I need to identify the corresponding EXTERNAL_ID(this field is in the table-DPR_OBJLINK) of the projects(These projects are R/3 projects). These EXTERNAL_ID values has to be pulled out in the report.
I am using the extractor 0CO_OM_WBS_1.
Please help me out with the update rule code.
Please help me out as soon as possible.

Need hints to bring BC400(ABAP) knowledge to BW update rules/routines.

I have just completed the BC400 (ABAP) course at SAP but the instructor had no clue about BW.
From se80, he thought how to create packages, programs, functions modules, classes/Interfaces, etc. but whenever, I asked how these fit into the BW update rules and transfer rules, he said he knew nothing about BW.
For example, how do I bring in a program written in se80 into my update rule or transfer routine which updates and ODS or cube?
i.e. The main reasoning for learning this BC400(ABAP) is to be comfortable in writing update rule or transfer routine to update ODS/Cubes in BW but the instructor failed me in making the link between the ABAP class and BW.
Can you give me some guide on this?
Can I work in se80 as I was taught and bring codes from there to update a cube?
i.e. if I need to write an update routine to update a cube from an ODS, can this be done in se80 (on BW)
I will appreciate any guidelines to bring in my new found knowledge to the BW environment.

Most Bw transformations are already includes inside programs or cmods or BTEs
By double cliking on start routines and end routines it already takes you into the ABAP enviroment
Have a look at the sappress book - user exits and BADIs in BW (it's not a brillaitn book by any means - it's just about passable and is short on detail - but it will get you a head start)

Need help in assigning date to a field in Update Rule.

Dear all,
I am stuck with a small problem but could´t find a solution. I need to fill a date field (Last Movement date) in the update rules. Currently it is being filled correctly. I need to just enhance the code in ELSE part, that is if i don´t find a relevant date in a look up ODS, i need to assign a future date i.e 99991231.(31.12.9999). When i write the same thing in the ELSE, RESULT = 99991231, the date is not filled. it is showing blank.
Any help would be appreciated.

If you are assigning the value directly, mark it in single quotes.
For example: Result = '99991231'.

ABAP needed: New Value/Old Value in Update Rules

Hi all
I'm updating some attributes in IObj by ABAP routine. Is it possible to get not only new value of attribute but the old one to compare them?
Is it possible to get others attribute old and new values?
I'll illustrate it with example.
Say, IObj has 3 attributes:
0ACC_GRP
0DT_FROM
0DT_TO
if NEW value of 0ACC_GRP <> OLD value of 0ACC_GRP then
new 0DT_FROM = SYSDAT
new 0DT_TO = old 0DT_FROM
else
new 0DT_FROM = old 0DT_FROM
new 0DT_TO = old 0DT_TO

My case quite simple I guess.
I got 0CUSTOMER infoobject and appended it with several time-dep attributes. After it my Update rules were deactvated. I got error message with prompt to fill out FROM_DATE, TO_DATE as key fields in every attribute (time-dependable and none time-dependable) while was trying re-activate Update Rules.
So, what's wrong with that? What I supposed to do with all those to/from date key fields in my Update Rules??

ABAP Help needed with update rule

I have created a new keyfigure A and a new keyfigure B in 1 update rule, derived from basic keyfigures. Keyfigure C is calculated by adding A and B together...in the same updaterule.
keyfigure A and B are filled (recalculated ) as expected but keyfigure C remains empty. Can anybody tell me why?

Hi Tom
I think you have written a update rule for all the three keyfigures A, B and C.
When you write an update routine it is local and the value returned by any routine or calculation can not be accesed by other keyfigure. The Key Figure C will be calculated with values of A and B from the datapacket which are both SPACE(not from the values returned by update routines of A and B). so value of C will always be SPACE or Empty.
To solve the problem write Start Routine for calculating A B and C
Please assign points if helpful.

I want to extract data from two data sources(For ex 2LIS_02_HDR, 2LIS_02_ITM).
I am using 2 first layer ODS' and one second layer ODS for consolidation.I want to write a start routine in the update rules so that the data of the MATNR(Material Number) field from 2LIS_02_ITM will be populated in the second layer ODS when the keys (EBELN) of the datasources are equal in the first layer ODS'.

Update rule on master data attribute

Hi
In my cube, I have a master data object 0COMP_CODE, which has attribute 0COMPANY.
Additionally, in the same cube, there's:
Master data object 0CUST_GROUP, which has attribute ZBUSPART
Master data object 0CO_AREA, which also has attribute ZBUSPART
I need to fill a characteristic ZTAXCODE (not a master data object) in the cube, with the following logic:
If 0COMPANY is between 1 and 30, populate ZTAXCODE with value of ZBUSPART from 0CUST_GROUP
If 0COMPANY is between 31-9999999, populate ZTAXCODE with value of ZBUS_PART from 0CO_AREA
I guess this will have to be done in the update rule. Right now I have 0COMP_CODE in the communication structure. How should the code be written to populate ZTAXCODE, with value of ZBUSPART, based on the value of the attribute of 0COMP_CODE - 0COMPANY?
Any help with getting me started here would be appreciated...

In the start routine.
First, for all data package select company code, cust_group and zbuspart from cust_group and store it in the internal table.
Second for all data package select company code, co_area and zbuspart from co_area and store it in the second internal table.
Third for all data package select company and company code from comp_code and store it in the third internal table.
Now in the update rule routine.
read the third table and get the company for the company code and if the value which comes from this company is between 31 and 9999999 then read from second internal table otherwise read from the first internal table and update the result.
